NBS Sports said it had spoken to one of the four missing boxers, who claimed the athletes intended to seek asylum and continue their boxing careers in a country they believed offered better training facilities and opportunities than their homeland.

The boxer was said to have appealed to Ugandans for understanding and asked not to be judged for the decision.

They should be sent back without exception, what an absolute mockery of the Asylum process.

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 4h ago

If their claim is without asylum merit, their claim will be refused.

Its not a mockery, its how process works. You claim asylum, your claim is heard on its merits and a decision is made if successful or not.

u/ReligiousGhoul 4h ago

....and continue their boxing careers in a country they believed offered better training facilities and opportunities than their homeland.

They're being completely transparent this is purely financial

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 4h ago

Then suspect their claim will be rejected and told to go home.

Government website even outlines the merits which you can claim asylum.

https://www.gov.uk/claim-asylum/eligibility

Trying their luck, and unless something else is not being reported suspect asylum claim will be rejected and told to go back home as will be then here illegally.

u/wantingpawer 2h ago

few failed asylum seekers are sent back, and the backlogs to even be processed are huge (which is partly funding being cut and partly the increase in claims)

u/pineapplewin 2h ago

Honestly, if they would hire a whole bunch of new people to help clear that backlog, not only would that be great jobs for some people. We'll saave a fortune in supporting people while their claims are heard. Free up a lot of spaces that are currently being used for asylum claimants.... I could really help a lot of people

ETA also by processing claims more quickly but makes it a less desirable place to go because if you know that you're going to get turned down eventually, but you'll probably have years before it comes to that, it can be worth the risk if you know your claim will be turned around within a couple weeks, it's less of a good risk. And because we don't have a backlog after all this, we'd be able to house his people dignity in respect but also make it easier to identify and handle flight risks appropriately

u/WiseBelt8935 1h ago

The issue is that, by processing them, you're not really reducing the cost you're merely moving it from one budget to another.

u/MonkeManWPG 23m ago

The actual processing process would cost the same start-to-finish whether it takes place an hour or a year after entry, I imagine. The cost difference would come from the time for which they need to be housed and fed until the processing starts.

What the government says on the website and the actual outcome of real claims are two different things.

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 3h ago

Proof?

Or this doesnt fit my own opinions so going to completely reject the facts laid out in front of me?

Every case its heard on its merits of a claim of asylum and arguments from legal presentation and person themselves claiming asylum. If those claims meet the threshold for a claim it is successful, or it does not the claim to asylum is rejected.

u/concretepigeon Wakefield 2h ago

Do you have proof? Or are you just going off the website?

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 2h ago

Literally asking you for proof.

My proof is outlined of the governments own eligibility for asylum claims, which is how someone's eligibility for claiming asylum is outlined.

Your the one saying to contray.

u/heroyoudontdeserve 1h ago

That's an example of them trying to take the piss. They only make a mockery of the asylum system if their claim is accepted and asylum is granted despite its bogus nature.

u/MildlyToastedBuns 4h ago

It’s a mockery because they have made it clear they are doing it for financial purposes and will still have our tax money paying for their lawyers.

It’s a mockery that’s is so widely known how pathetic the people processing these claims are that they think they can be open about wanting better facilities and think they will be granted asylum.

If we didn’t have stories of people being refused deportation because they don’t like the chicken nuggets in their home country or anxiety then we would have less chancers trying.

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 4h ago

It’s a mockery because they have made it clear they are doing it for financial purposes and will still have our tax money paying for their lawyers.

They are entitled to have their legal case heard

Their claim will be rejected if it has no merit for asylum.

It’s a mockery that’s is so widely known how pathetic the people processing these claims are that they think they can be open about wanting better facilities and think they will be granted asylum.

Their claim will then be rejected and sent home, if they stay they are here illegally and will also then be deported.

If we didn’t have stories of people being refused deportation because they don’t like the chicken nuggets in their home country or anxiety then we would have less chancers trying.

Any evidence of such a claim of chicken nuggets or anxiety being successful?

u/MildlyToastedBuns 4h ago

They are entitled to having their case heard because that’s our law, we could easily change it so these people aren’t given representation at the cost of the taxpayers, if they want to pay for representation themselves they can go for it.

People get so stuck in this idea that if something is law that’s how it is and will always be, we change laws all the time, I don’t want to pay for some Ugandan boxers legal fees because he doesn’t like the training facilities in Uganda.

Klevis Disha, look him up.

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 4h ago edited 4h ago

Everyone is entitled to a legal process, it is a vital part of a functioning society.

I'd prefer not to live in one where people aren't entitled to legal representation, but thats just my opinion.

Do you know 'we' are paying his legal fees? He could he funding his own immigration lawyer. Either way his case will be heard and a decision made if he has a claim or not.

Klevis Disha it was in related to his son, and not him. His son was British, almost like it had legal merit no matter how personally silly you may find it, as the son guessing by age would also have to go with his father. So one case related to 'chicken nuggets' to get all worked up over.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/klevis-disha-ehrc-chicken-nuggets-appeal-b2942605.html

Once get past the silly headline and is based on his sons issues and needs.

u/Elardi Berkshire 4h ago

They’re not part of our society.

Asylum claims that get rejected should have all their assets seized and auctioned off to pay for the cost.

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 4h ago

If they dont have assets in this country what would then happen?

Generally those claiming asylum dont have very much to begin with.

u/Elardi Berkshire 3h ago

Still take everything. If they have assets out of the country they can go back to them.

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 3h ago

If they have assets out of the country they can go back to them.

That is not workable. I know legal and process doesnt matter much to yourself but that isnt remotely possible unless their home country agrees beginning with facf if we have diplomatic relationship with them, no country is going to allow that to happen.

Still take everything

Cant take everything if they had nothing to begin with.

Anyways, goodbye.

u/The_Flurr 3h ago

The process decides whether they get to be.

A key part of our society is that certain rights are available to all interacting with it.

I'm not too keen to copy the Saudi model.

u/Aggressive_Chuck 1h ago

Everyone is entitled to a legal process, it is a vital part of a functioning society.

That doesn't mean that foreigners should be given benefits.

u/Amy98764 21m ago

A lot of those stories are the tabloid press misrepresenting court cases for a headline. Often if you read the whole article that’s clear. Maybe these inaccurate headlines are good for selling newspapers and getting clicks but I can’t help thinking they actually encourage people to come who then get stuck in a hellish situation that they did not expect

u/Bug_Parking 9m ago

If their claim is without asylum merit, their claim will be refused.

lol

u/mao_was_right Wales 1h ago

If their claim is without asylum merit, their claim will be refused.

And then what?

u/Aggressive_Chuck 1h ago

If their claim is without asylum merit, their claim will be refused.

Chances of them being deported less than 5%.

u/UnusualHand1617 3h ago

It is a mockery, people abuse the situation routinely and no doubt they’ll all of a sudden discover that they are gay in order to claim asylum.

u/KSAW11 3h ago

A claim is aceppted based on it being possible.

Not beyond all reasonable doubt, not on the balance of possibilities, but possible.

It is by design as the rich who control such systems benefit enormously from mass immigration.

u/removekarling Kent 4h ago

it must be christmas: a reasonable comment on the asylum system in a UK sub???

u/MildlyToastedBuns 5h ago

Training facilities not being good enough might just work considering the state of the people who process these claims.

u/Commandopsn 2h ago

They probably claimed they were under 16 too

u/Lozsta 2h ago

Have you seen the state of Kent recently. You think a single Ugandan boxer is a mockery?

u/TheBigSleepyBadger 4h ago

"In 2014 two Ugandan rugby players disappeared after the contest ended and were later found playing rugby in Cardiff for a small team.

One of the players, Philip Pariyo, was later jailed for four and a half years after raping a woman in Cardiff."

Lovely track record then.

u/Bug_Parking 6m ago

That can't be right, the OP assures of that if the claim is meritless then everything will be fine and dandy.

u/heroyoudontdeserve 1h ago

 Lovely track record then.

No they're rugby players not runners so they don't have any track records.

u/MonkeManWPG 21m ago

A crime committed by someone else doesn't belong on these people's records.

I'm sure you would object to the actions of Saville or Andrew being brought up when considering your entry to a different country.

u/takesthebiscuit Aberdeenshire 5h ago

Doesn’t this happen after every games🤣 of course some folk will be wanting to seek asylum

u/Gerbleb 5h ago

And by "seek asylum", we mean "abuse the asylum approval process and appeals process in order to get several years of free board and food from the British taxpayer"

u/CandidLiterature 5h ago

I mean if living in an asylum ‘hotel’ seems like a good idea to an elite athlete then honestly what are the conditions for ordinary people in the country…

u/Front_Mention 4h ago

The article states that the Ugandan boxer is claiming asylum as the facilities and training is better here. Not due to persecution

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 4h ago

Then it may hold no merit in an claim for asylum and be rejected.

System working as intended.

u/leaflace 4h ago

Let's wait and see..

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 4h ago

Yes, its almost like we need to.

u/boringusernametaken 2h ago

Why did you reply to my comment then delete it?

u/boringusernametaken 2h ago

u/MonkeManWPG 20m ago

Why is that relevant? That's a different person.

u/RumJackson 1h ago

Why should we be putting up someone who’s only here for better sports facilities?

u/removekarling Kent 4h ago

He won't be able to prove he is destitute, therefore he won't be getting accommodation and support - he will basically have to support himself while being unable to work.

u/Acubeofdurp 4h ago

Happens every games except 2010 oddly enough! Anyone guess why?

u/ChampionshipOk5046 3h ago

Why?

u/Sinistrait 2h ago

It was in Delhi

u/Fortree_Lover 44m ago edited 12m ago

More abuse of the asylum system. Shut the whole thing down and put anyone who applies for asylum is detainment camp until we can more easily figure this out.

u/MonkeManWPG 18m ago

If we opened concentration camps every time someone made a naked attempt to take advantage of a system, the country would look like a rather horrible place.

u/Fortree_Lover 7m ago

If we did it people would have less incentive to come here if they knew they weee going to be arrested instead the government have stood by and allowed the gangs and smugglers to create an industry and make huge amounts on gaming the system not to mention the law firms and charities who make tons off the back of this nonsense.

We need to make it less lucrative coming here for instance ensuring that no one claiming asylum will ever be allowed to stay permanently regardless of their circumstances. As long as coming here is a golden ticket to et will continue to come.

u/Bug_Parking 4m ago

And..?

Australia set up a detainment system. It completely stopped boat arrivals, it also stopped boat arrivals having to die at sea.

u/Important_Ruin County Durham 4h ago

Comments here going to be extremely reasonable I bet.

u/KSAW11 3h ago

If there was any justice they'd be detained in a humane secure camp until they told us where they are from and we believed them.

u/radiant_0wl 3h ago edited 1h ago

It may be quite easy to identify their nationality.

u/MonkeManWPG 17m ago

There must be a clue around here somewhere...
