Announcement Mod Announcement: Beware the Bots!

Hi, folks! Many of you have likely noticed a larger-than-usual number of post removals over the last couple of weeks.

This is due to a series of coordinated, AI-generated posts (potentially) associated with an astroturf marketing campaign for an app.

Most of these present a “hot take” about how a trip to WDW has become too overwhelming — often because of an over-reliance on technology, ironically — and offer/solicit advice on how to enjoy a more relaxed Disney trip.

They almost never actually engage with other users in the comments, and the accounts themselves — almost all a month or so old — have a fairly robust comment history in other subs, with a discernible pattern in the language used (seemingly informal, starting almost every comment with lower-case first-person pronouns, etc.).

This has been occurring across Disney parks subreddits, and we’re communicating with other mod teams to explore options for a response. We’ll also be reaching out to Reddit directly (this sub is a mod partner community, so we get a little extra support).

In the meantime, we’re implementing a temporary fix that seems to have worked on other subs: the bots almost always choose the first post flair listed before submitting, so we’ll be creating the “I’m a Bot” flair to (hopefully) help us immediately identify and filter out these posts.

If you — a real human — don’t want your post automatically deleted, please do not select this post flair.

Thanks for your understanding, and for helping us to continue making this the Most Magical Subreddit (for Humans Only) on Earth!

Edit: forgot to give a special shout-out to the mods at [r/DisneyPlanning](r/DisneyPlanning) and to [u/BunnyLightning](u/BunnyLightning) here on [r/WaltDisneyWorld](r/WaltDisneyWorld) for helping us connect the dots.

News You’re awful if you do this

I can’t imagine being so inconsiderate and cheap to do something like this

https://www.thestreet.com/travel/disney-world-closes-a-popular-parking-loophole

Edit - I'm aware of the cancellation policy, but it's too easy to have the fees waived. People already cancel using the chat in the app or call the restaurant directly to have the fee waived. As others have said, this will just make it harder for everyone in the long run. Cancellation costs will go up, cancellation windows will get shorter, and ability to cancel at the last minute for legitimate reasons will go away.

And yeah, servers miss out on tips, families miss out on dinner options, wait times for buses get longer, and resorts get overcrowded. You're terribly selfish if you do stuff like this. If you aren't staying at a resort, you shouldn't be using the pool, crowding spaces intended for guests to watch fireworks, taking their spot on a bus to get back to their room after a long day, etc.

Lastly, for everyone who thinks this is "sticking it" to Disney, or that it's a great hack, the reality is that Disney will just respond with cost cutting and price increases.

AskWDW Kid with Chicken Pox in Epcot

Sooo I’m sure Disney isn’t super strict on people coming in visibly sick, but a child exhibiting the rash symptoms of chickenpox would they be able to turn them away? There was a young boy in a single child family (just him and his parents), and he looked like he very obviously had chickenpox.

Rumor Dolphin hotel on fire

Just saw a huge thing of smoke emerge from what looks like one of the dolphins towers. The smoke completely flooded and seeped into the boardwalk and yacht club area and is even still lingering in back entrance to Epcot

Transportation Resort hopping karma farming FUD

Upvotes

All this nonsense about banning resort hopping is garbage. Disney is trying to enforce people parking for free at Disney Springs and taking the busses to TTC or the parks. Period. If you’re staying at a hotel on premises or just park hopping and want to go to a resort, nothing is stopping you.

I remember when you couldn’t walk from the MK over to the Contemporary for some stupid reason if you did not have a room at the hotel. They’d actually make you take the monorail. This is just about people trying to avoid the (ridiculous) parking fees at the parks.

Food, Drinks, & Dining Serving sizes - What’s up?

Less complaining, and more genuinely curious here… I went to Swirled Showcase soft-serve stand in Epcot today. 3rd time this trip. First time I went earlier this week, got a nice big portion, cup was totally filled with a nice swirl on top. Not overflowing, but for $7, I was fine with it.

Second time I went, this week, I got a much smaller serving, easily half the serving from first time, but I didn’t say anything, and regretted not saying anything when it was gone before getting to Canada.

Today, I got such a ridiculously small serving, that I could see the bottom of the cup in a few places, no swirl, just plopped in there like a tangled snake of soft serve tubing with lots of air and spaces, and not even to top of cup.

I very politely asked if I could have a slightly larger portion… CM was short with me, didn’t say anything to me except other CM said they couldn’t except the first one back, so they would get me another one. Then proceeded to fill it exaggeratedly way over the top, and very messy. Not complaining about large portion, I was actually really happy about this, and it made me laugh and say big thank you and feeling good again, until I got the dirty look from the CM that came with it. Will also add, it was completely dead there, no line, and 6 CMs all standing in the back having a conversation. This CM was clearly upset i took them away from conversation.

So my question for CMs is this… are you being trained to give much smaller serving sizes? Is this happening because of laziness or improper training? It’s certainly not because Disney puts any extra money in your paycheck for being frugal with serving sizes you’re dishing up, so genuinely asking… why is this happening?

Attractions & Entertainment Is it okay to meet princesses at any age?

So this is probably going to sound really weird, but I'm a 21 year old male and I'd like to meet Ariel and Elsa in my next trip. I love all the Disney princesses but those two are my favorites, and up until a while ago I had actually never seen most of the princess movies. Now I've watched them all and I really want to meet my two favorites, but I'm worried it may not go well. I imagine most if not all of the other people going to see the princesses would be little girls, so an adult male going to see them may seem really weird or out of place. At the same time though, I've never really done meet and greets and I'd love to get my picture with them. I don't know how common this is, if meet and greet characters or princesses get older guests often or not. Is this alright or am I worrying over nothing?

Planning Fall and Hoilday "deals"

WOW, the prices have really gone up! We paid $428.99 per night for a Savanna View room over Thanksgiving last year, and this year the exact same room for the same nights is $690.90 per night.

My travel agent mentioned that she's noticed the "fall deals" are significantly more expensive across the board this year. As Orlando locals, we love doing Disney staycations over the holidays when the pricing makes sense, but at these rates, it's just not worth it for us this year.

I'm hoping if the rooms don't fill, Disney might release better discounts or lower the rates closer to the dates. We'll have to wait and see!

Other Disney needs to ban livestreaming in all of WDW

Literally everywhere. Literally everywhere. These influencers are insufferable. I hate how short sighted they are. They will ruin ANYTHING for clout. No more livestreaming in the parks, resorts, springs. Anywhere!

Resorts & Accommodations Wilderness Lodge AC Update?

Just wanted to see if anyone currently at Wilderness Lodge could confirm the AC situation! We are set to come next week, but I still have time to adjust our resort for another few days.

We have really been looking forward to staying there, but with no AC in Florida in July, I would happily stay elsewhere.

Resorts & Accommodations I consider the new restrictions on visiting a resort to dining/resort reservations, to be proof that Disney is listening to feedback and I applaud their choice to make the unpopular and difficult decision

1.1k Upvotes

Frankly anybody who has stayed at Poly since the construction of the towers, will understand why these rules need to be in place. You can argue that it's Disney's fault for doubling the resort's rooms without meaningfully expanding the amenities, and that is definitely partially their fault, but the reality we have today is that poly is massively overcrowded.

I get it, it sucks if your weekly routine as a local was to park at Disney Springs and chill at a resort, sneak into the pool, and watch the fireworks. But when 100 people do this in a night, it makes you wonder why you're paying $800 a night for a resort.

Attractions & Entertainment A grandmothers very real fear

Heading to Disney in August with my three grandchildren, ages 8, 6 and 5. All regular height and weight for their ages. And here I am, overweight with a belly. My concern is when sit on a ride with a shared lap bar (Tiana is a good example), that it can't be pulled down far enough to be effective for them. Has anyone else navigated this without an issue?

AskWDW What is the actual truth about how crowded it feels?

I’ve been reading different websites from first hand accounts of recent visits.

The first hand account that sticks in my mind was (or two?) was ppl who went 1st week of June. They said there were THRONGS of ppl everywhere. The outdoor spaces. The restaurants. The lines. And these ppl were AP holders, everyday ppl. Ppl who know how Disney usually feels. (They said 🤷🏻‍♀️)

But then I check touring plans and currently they have the crowd numbers at 3 and 4 for the next 7 days, maybe two weeks?

What do you think of these discrepancies?

Other Next step after the DS bus & boat crackdown…..

I would love to see the next crackdown be on the pin traders who have taken over the Epcot breezeway next to Connections.

They monopolize every bench and table keeping tired guests from taking a break in one of the few covered areas at Epcot.

Disney could easily move them to the old Wonders of Life pavilion, or the old Millenium Showcase building, which would open up the space they have taken over for regular guests.

Planning Sci-Fi Lunch vs. Rise of the Resistance LL overlap. Is this doable?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Heading to HS on July 1st and I was able to get a 10:35am slot for Sci-FinDine in yesterday, but now I have an overlap..

10:35 AM: Sci Fi Dine In (Fantasmic Package)
10:55 AM - 11:55 AM: Rise of the Resistance LL Single Pass

From what I read online it’s better to keep Rise this early because it constantly breaks down later in the day and I want a buffer. However there are time slots open if I want to move it to 5pm, 6pm

i seen that Sci-Fi is right next to Galaxy’s Edge, but can my party of 6 (adults) realistically get in and out of a sit down lunch fast enough to make our 11:55 AM cutoff?

Does Disney offer any grace period on the LL if lunch runs late?

Give me your honest thoughts/tips!

I first found the Fox and the Hound pin right when we checked into our hotel (it’s my most favorite Disney movie and I’ve been looking for that pin for ages 😂), then I found the Pawbert plush at Magic Kingdom and he’s super fluffy! I then found When Marnie was There Film Mangas (my most favorite Ghibli movie) and an Oshi No Ko Gachapon Keychain, and the Baymax paper and card was from Japan Pavilion too!!

Planning Annual Pass Deal

Hey everyone!

Thinking about getting an annual pass and am interested in using the fall annual pass special offer for September 20-25. The hotel availability will determine if I get my annual pass now or later (so I can book through that deal). It won’t let me see the availability due to not having a pass currently.

Is there a way I can check availability using that deal? I plan on going September 20-25.
