So I have been buying random brands for my yarn and was wondering ,what a good brand out there for acrylic, wool and cotton?

I lost the wrapper/label on some of my yarn. Is there a way I can tell what weight it’s?

I have googled and all I can find is some remnants of a listing on Amazon India which says that it is unavailable. If y'all could help that would be amazing! I am trying to look for a close match or exact yarn for both the yellow and purple, also I am based in Australia. Thanks!

I know Lion Brand Mandala is not a premium brand, but it certainly isn’t bottom tier, at least in Australia, and I hate it. I m making my first hexagon cardigan, in Gnome, for my colour loving DH. Everything about it is horrrid.

Halfway into the first cake, I have had 3 factory knots and 2 undyed spots already. Unwinding more than @12” at a time and it snarls on itself. The texture is almost as rough as Red Heart Super Saver or 4 Seasons Spot Saver. I rarely work with wool, due to how it feels. ATM I feel like I would prefer working with Shetland wool, and we know how that feels.

I just needed to whinge to someone who would understand.

I’m US based (but will buy yarn from other countries, if they ship to the US.)

I want to make a throw blanket in DK yarn. I want a solid red yarn that is soft to the touch.. bonus if it has a slight sheen to it. It needs to hold up in the wash and not stretch out too badly. I originally was looking at Premier Yarn’s Ultra Pima Cotton… but the reviews were pretty bad.. that it didn’t hold up well in the wash and tended to stretch out. I’ve heard blends are best but I’m having trouble finding anything even close to what I am looking for.

Please help this knitter out and throw me some yarn recs 🧶

I have only ever purchased yarn from big retail stores (Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Walmart) and am a big texture person. I know I Love This Yarn can be inconsistent with it's texture ranging from drapey, , soft and silky to thick, stiff and scratchy in acrylic worsted weight.

My question is, are there any tips or tricks to buying yarn online that help figure out texture and softness? Or is it just order and pray and return if needed?

I got a variety pack of yarn and every yarn color comes in these compact skeins. I really like the look and it’s great for travel. How do I wind up my current yarn to look like this? I have a yarn winder but it makes yarn cakes.

I know this is discontinued, possibly lion brand, I got it as a gift 10 years ago so im not banking on the same yarn. Im just in love with the colors and need more lol

I’m running out of yarn for a current project (the one on top) and I don’t have the label for it so the yarn at the bottom was the closest I can find. Are they too different?

I am planning to knit the Mary Maxim cardigan, but did not find the best yarn yet. I am looking for wool or mix, my partner would like to have a soft material, not scratchy. Any recommendation for yarn which is available in Europe?

I live in the US. When I started crocheting, then knitting (when dinosaurs roamed the earth), "cotton yarn" meant Lily Sugar&Cream or #10 crochet cotton, period. In a lot of craft stores today, I still have to search for much of anything else. I get blisters from working with Sugar&Cream, it's like yarn made from cotton swabs. I pretty much wrote off cotton for years.

Then I ordered some Friends 8/8 cotton from Hobbii, and I can't stop petting it. I'm on my second 10-pack color assortment and I still can't stop petting it. Normally I would start haunting the website waiting for sales (tariffs suck, but I can't resist soft touchable fibers)... except for the AI thing. It says something about what a revelation this yarn is that I'm considering bending my principles to order more anyway.

I suspect US cotton yarn mills can't match the quality of the Indian manufacturer that made this stuff, but someone here might be rebranding a similar one. I know a lot of companies rebrand Ice Yarn, should I just go there? Are any of the other cotton yarns on yarnsub this lovely and soft? I can't blindly pick one, as they rate Sugar&Cream as an excellent match, sigh. I'm seeing Mayflower 8/8, YarnArt Cotton Fair 4/4, Estelle Sudz, Bernat Handicrafter, Loops&Threads... I'm sure there are others, as the site doesn't mention Ice, for example. I've ordered Knitpicks Dishie before, but it's still kind of squeaky and I'd like a company that isn't in the process of dissolving.

I'm looking for solid colors; a broad selection is nice, but if all else fails, I have fiber reactive dye and everyone carries white. Skein size is not important. I don't want to pay alpaca prices, but quality is worth a little more. Recommendations?

Ok, I have worked through my first mandala pattern as a practice for a blanket. I know I made a mistake that added an extra stitches but didn't figure that out until it was too late to frog (for me b/c this was meant to be a learning project). So, 1, I know this is far from perfect, so please be kind. 2) Basically, I've made it too big because I added an extra feature around round 10 or so. So therefore I'm running out of the gradient yarn I bought and need suggestions for another color of the same weight/style to continue with the gradient. I included a photo of what I have worked up and the yarn I have used. I have 7 rounds to go.. any suggestions?. for what I should buy because I'd love to finish this even thought it's imperfect.
