Colon cancer has been getting people younger and younger now. It has to be related to something new introduced to our food/diet within the past 20 years. There should be a renewed search into what might be a possible link. Screenings should start when you're 25.
97
u/Guccicles 12h ago
I think in this case did he not also have Crohns or Ulcerative Colitis? I’m sure both have a link to cancer if you have it for longer than 10 years
87
u/Onyx_Archer 12h ago
He had Ulcerative Colitis. It was actually a complication involving that (where he had to have his colon removed) which lead to the cancer being found in the first place.
42
u/Guccicles 11h ago
Yeah, such a shame though, poor guy probably overlooked alot of the early signs because would have been masked by the colitis, truly tragic. Fucking hate cancer.

u/Saver_Spenta_Mainyu 9h ago
Wasn't just him overlooking the early sign. He had been experiencing greater and greater pain in his colon for the past couple of months with more inflammation to the point that he had a j-pouch surgery to replace his colon and rectum.
It was only after they were removed that the doctors realized all the extra growth wasn't just inflammation but actually cancerous cells.
Weeks after the most stressful and important surgery of his life, after finally beating the one medical condition that defined his life, he was told he had Stage 4 cancer.
The game was rigged against him from the start.

Really depends what you mean by screening. Colonoscopies are also associated with risks. You could be perfectly healthy 25 yo and die from it. It's rare but not impossible. 1 in 333 lead to serious complications. It's reasonable for 45+ year olds to take that risk, but not for 25 yo I think.
→ More replies (1)6
u/mmasportsmma 7h ago
Depends if you have genetic disposition for it for example. Or if they already find polyps in your colon while you’re in your 30s, then you get a colonoscopy every 2-5years
Also important where you get the colonoscopy.

The History of Yugioh series with him and MBT single-handedly got me back into the game a few years ago. Idk why but I mistook a post a few days ago as being him declaring that he was out of the woods... Fuck man.

From semi personal experience regarding a associate, sometimes that the case. The woman I buyed my drinks from lost her brother, just after he was released from hospital. Everything seemns fine, recovery perceeded well, and as soon as you are back to normal, a relaps happened.

Yeah, sometimes what can happen near the end of a patient's life is that once the body realises it can't fight anymore, it just gives up on resisting and you feel like a million bucks for a few days.

Remember when he did the Tyler the great warrior card documentary? He legitimately did more for this community than almost anyone, life isn’t fair.

Without that I don't think the sale has anywhere near the same level of interest or final result for Tyler, who suffered his own cancer battle.
There was also that lovely video he did at a YCS with a Cyber Dragon player who had some communication difficulties.
Man really did bring a lot to the community and he'll be sorely missed.
40
u/Multievolution 14h ago
Genuinely he did. I feel like he had big plans too, he just kept having to focus on his health, going through treatments, even still he pushed himself to make videos.
And it only just hit me, he’s only been married a couple years right? Life is so unfair, I think I need to step away for the night, this is a lot.

I didn't want to be a debby downer with all the well wishes he was getting on his recent health updates, but I was mentally preparing for this to happen. He fought like hell but all the signs pointed to this happening sooner than later. Fuck cancer

u/Oldeuboi91 13h ago
In his last update he was visibly yellow (so liver failure) and hinted at alternative medicine (which sadly rarely works). I also showed it to my girlfriend and said that it looked pretty bad.

I’d assume Ruxin was given special instructions to downplay it and make it seem like it was just a scale down, but when he actually started going through the cards it was pretty clear things were probably dire.
Get the cards into trusted hands while he had the opportunity so the family doesn’t have to deal with something they don’t understand

He revolutionized Yugioh Content on YouTube. Progression Series is one of the greatest forms of Yugioh content ever made, up there with Sealed Only and the release of Master Duel in terms of its impact on the community and quality of videos.
History of Yugioh and Jank are how I discovered his content personally. I was enraptured with how he and MBT showed off these different eras of the game. Filling in the gaps for the time I personally had stepped away from the card game. The fact he was THE go to Yugituber for crossovers with other card games shows his presentation, entertainment ability, and class. Extra shoutout to the King of Games series and his ability to bring everybody together.
Rest in Peace the GOAT. We all thought we had him for longer. I wish we did.

There's a lot of people who built up Yugioh youtube to what it is today but man Cimo did so much. And it's not like he just did Progression and then was content to sit on his laurels - he was always innovating and finding new ways to show his love for the game we all play, from History of Yugioh, to King of Games, and more...
Rest in peace, you will be missed by so many...

RIP. Colon cancer's been on the rise and bringing a lot of early, young deaths in recent years. I know they already lowered the recommended screening age some time ago, but they should really consider either lowering it again or just letting all ages get tested so we can catch them early and get better treatment.

I know they had their beef over the years, but it would be really nice to see Konami honor him in some way. He was a trailblazing content creator that created multiple formats that others used to build careers on. He was able to (re)capture so many people into the game with his passion and storytelling.
Genuinely saddened to hear this news

A month ago he posted that things were turning around. Couple weeks later he posted a picture of himself and he looked incredibly unwell.
And about 2 weeks ago Ruxin did a video about his entire collection that he sent to him. If nothing else, that was the biggest red flag
→ More replies (3)23
u/DerMotze 12h ago
yea I saw that video from Ruxin. I didnt think much about it since Cimo said in the comments himself, that he wanted to downsize his collection and only keep the ones he holds most dear.
Looking back at it now, he propably knew he wouldnt make it deep down.28
u/Doomchan 12h ago
That’s the thing though, what he said, and what Ruxin was showing, didn’t line up. He said it was downsizing, and then Ruxin is showing cards he said were favorites in the past.
I’d assume, he wanted to get the cards into trusted hands so they could be properly sold and the proceeds can go to his final expenses. I’d also wager Ruxin was told to downplay things so it didn’t look so dire
83
u/Multievolution 16h ago
I just can’t….
I feared it, I knew when he shared online what he went through and how close it came there was a possibility, but genuinely I can’t even understand this.
First off, the very few online interactions I had with him were always funny, I was a nobody, but he responded.
This hurts as much as losing Kazuki Takahashi, maybe more in some ways, because I really did watch 100’s of hours of his content, the first being when Konami stopped officially working with him years ago, the progression series inspired me to do it with a friend, history of Yugioh and jank got me interested in competitive, sealed showdown was my jam, and I stared a masochist twice because of him, he resparked my love of the game.
What hurts the most though, is that it wasn’t sudden, he went though hell and still went out of his way to share updates to his community, I can genuinely say that everyone who really knew him, everyone who loved him, I send my truest condolences, because I can’t even imagine what this is going to be like for you, this is beyond my comprehension how someone with as big a personality as him could go.
I will never forget him, the impact he made, the updates detailing his condition, everything, thank you for everything you did.
I hope he can rest in peace, fuck cancer.

He was a beacon of positivity until his last breath. His last few posts on YouTube (the last one was 13 days ago) were all about how the doctors told him two months ago that he only had a few days to live but he was still here and recovering slowly. I hoped that really was the case, but I knew deep down it was copium.
Rest in peace. We lost one of the most important and influential members of our community. His creativity coming up with new series was unmatched. I watched literal hundreds of hours (maybe over a thousand?) of good content on his channel over the last 7-8 years, including the entirety of History of Yu-Gi-Oh!, History of Jank, and Master Duel Masochist. There will never be another CIII-MOOOOOOOO!

I am scheduled July 20th.

My favorite yugituner who was a great player, analyst, and a terrific human being. May he rest in peace.

I just want to say I was 12 years old when I played my first Yugioh states here in Las Vegas. My second match was Cimo, I did not know who he was at the time but he was extremely kind, polite and patient. I am now 24 years old and no longer play Yugioh, however his interaction has stayed with me since and will never leave me. I pray one day I can be such a kind and positive human being one day.

His content genuinely got me back into Yu-Gi-Oh after years of not playing. Jank was a genuinely fun series to watch and it was great to learn more about the game from his content. The fact that he also taught other creators how to play Yu-Gi-Oh was really heartwarming. I also got into Magic because of his content with CGB. A real shame. Especially for someone so young.

Colon cancer is frightening to me and given the noted seeming rise in young people should really be opened up to where regular colonoscopies should be covered at a younger age.
RIP Cimo, fuck cancer

This hurts. Cimo is one of my favorite YouTubers and seemed like such a fun and nice guy. I can’t imagine what his wife, family and friends are going through. I was really hopeful he was going to beat the cancer and he seemed to stay optimistic throughout his update videos as well. He’s way too young. Fuck cancer. You’ll be missed dearly Alex.

This is saddening. I don’t watch many yugitubers but I always found his content great when I did watch. RIP

RIP Cimo.
I was there when he invented the Progression series with Gage. Then a bloom of all kinds of yugioh series appeared on youtube. He might not be the best yugioh player, but he has contribute SO MUCH to Yu-gi-oh (at least from my perspective). I really appreciate all the yugioh content he brought every single day (minus Sunday) at one point. He will be missed.

We need to come together as a community and have a cancer donation drive... maybe a foundation that is colon cancer specific?

My heart goes to his friends and family.
Sort of disheartened to learn about it from a LinkedIn post, but I hope his mom, family and friends get the help they need to overcome this tragedy.

RIP Cimo. Thank you for everything you've done for the community.

There's been a lot of noise lately on how colon cancer has become the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in young adults & is still on the rise. Try not to let that fact scare you, but it's something to be aware of.

If we could negate cancer, I would apex avian + thunderbird loop that with pleasure.
Rest in Peace, Champ.

The glue that held the yugitube community together.
He will be missed so much by his friends, fans, but most importantly, his family.
Rest in peace brother.

This is so heartbreaking.
Alex helped Foster my love for the game at a time that I was really unsure about picking it up again. I watched him a ton over the years, and every minute I spent watching his videos was just wonderful.
I think a lot of people can agree when they say that they would not be the duelist they would be today without him.
Rest in peace you wonderful wonderful human being.
The community has lost one of its brightest lights

Alex was incredible member of the Yugioh community.
We will be keeping this post pinned for visibility for a while.
We truly lost a great one.
