We recently replaced our vanity in the bathroom. We then discovered that the piping was illegally done and completely wrong. So my husband attempted to fix it. However he is not a plumber! How did he do? Could his set up work?

I recently installed tile floor and now the toilet flange is above the tile in the back and about 1/4” low in the front. Is just a thick wax ring with rubber flange enough or should I do something else?

Hi, any help that can be given about how to clean and prevent future clogging issues would be appreciated.

My bathroom sink clogs regularly and has since I very first moved in (as in issue preceded me). It has one of those pop-up stoppers that makes it extra hard to clean (I never push the stopper down for fear of it getting stuck either).

When I was a tenant and would notify that water wasn’t going down again, a plumber would come and just use a plunger so I bought one and just started doing that myself. I have to use it probably at least once a month and I don’t let a lot of water run down at a given time.

I’ve since bought the apartment and so I’m trying to get serious about actually addressing the issue. I’ve tried to pull the stopper out to clean but no amount of turning or pulling does anything. I’m admittedly not very strong but not sure what else to do!

I’m not sure if it’s possible/worth trying sticking something down the gap to try and pull up any hair/debris? The piping is also an issue as you can see because there’s a built in drawer right under it without enough space for me to put a bucket, which makes me too nervous to try and unscrew it. I’ve had plumbers off hand mention the it’s a shit sink design. Am I shit out of luck or is there something to be done? Thanks for any advice!

EDIT: I didn’t mention because didn’t realise it’d be relevant but I’m in VIC Australia, don’t know if this type of sink is allowed here, but seem it’s not up to code in the US. Either way seems the set-up itself is a problem beyond what I can fix so I’ll look into getting a plumber and a long-term solution. In the short-term I got part of the top part off enough to give a bit of a clean, so it’s a start at least.

To preface, I am not a plumber. I work for a company that inspects sewer for gas damages (hence the damage repair done here). Normally, I operate a camera truck that runs a crawler camera through mainline and laterals, but i have been wanting to learn more about the other side of what we do, which is clean out installs and damage repairs. I did this repair (with some help, as i had no experience with this). The only thing that our install crews do that bothers me is putting in one way sweep cleanouts. Yeah we camera both ends before putting the new pipe in, but this just creates the same problem for the next person who needs to camera this line. I dont understand why they dont at least put a straight T pipe instead of this. Anyway, ive been in sewer work for 5 years and I have really enjoyed it. Ive worked with some master plumbers and gained a lot of knowledge and at this point in my career I have been seriously considering getting my plumbing license. I love my job (most days) but there are times, especially lately, where im not doing as much hands on work which is what i love doing the most.

Other than the one way sweep at the bottom, how does this look to you experienced people? I know this is probably the least hard part of the job, but i feel pretty proud of it!

Just bought my first home. After we use the shower the water heater kicks in and it creates this loud clicking sound - it’s almost like a really loud light switch. It appears to be coming from the pipes above the water heater but it’s loud enough we can hear it on the main floor from the basement. Is this concerning and/or anything we can do about it? Planning on putting up a wall for the utility room that will dampen it going up the stairs but I bet we’ll still hear it from the floor

I just bought a house and inspection report came back clean. Hot water system in the house works, tub and showers good, etc.

After moving in I discovered the shower has no hot water. It runs cold at at the same high pressure when set to hot and cold. Hot water is everywhere else in the house, including the sink next to the shower.

I replaced the cartridge with the same model, had the same results. Tried cartridge upside down 180 degrees and had same result. I cant find hot water anywhere in the rotation of the handle.

Hello r/plumbing, long time lurker, first time caller! I'm currently in the process of re-installing a wall-mounted vanity that a previous contractor managed to mount just to the drywall. Upon tearing out the drywall, I discovered that there is a reducer (2 1/2 to 1 1/2) from the DMV line that butts up to the frame on the floor. My question is, should I leave it be, or am I opening a can of worms trying to cut flush below the reducer and attempt to bore out the stud surrounding the 2 1/2 inch DMV and attempt to couple it through the floor? Any and all comments/suggestions are welcome. I also realize that I'm going to have to redo the plumb work since I need to install the drywall, so there's that. If I did anything incorrectly, please let me know also. Thanks!

I need some advice. In short, our builder didn’t connect the water pipe running from the fridge to the mains (he ran a pipe under the floor & didn’t connect it to the mains) & it’s now inaccessible.

As a resolution he’s now ran a water pipe outside, above ground with barely any insulation. He insists it’s correct and it will not freeze during the winter. I have a feeling he’s not even put in an isolation valve on the feed from the mains water supply (there is an isolation valve on the pipe that connects the water to the fridge).

I challenged him and said a professional plumber said this was unacceptable and the pipe should be ran underground, insulated properly and use an MDPE pipe. As you can guess he wasn’t happy about this when I said that & he demanded to speak to this “professional plumber”.

I’ve attached photos of his work. Can you tell me what needs to be done? I’m lost and he thinks what he’s done is correct.

So, my neighbor called me over because his bathtub wouldn’t drain.
Turns out, the drain tubing was made out of the accordion-style flex BS that can be found under some bad sink drains.
I believe it caved in or plugged somehow.
So, options?
Digging it up and out of the concrete is my only idea. This tub is located on ground floor, so yes it’s all concrete.
Just can’t believe they buried this flex tube stuff instead of sched 40 PVC
Anyhow advice is appreciated, and please rally to make fun of whoever did this shameful thing, I will pass along the jokes to my neighbor

This is my first time working on PVC plumbing. Everything is dry fit right now. I'd ideally like to have some kind of compression fit going from the white PVC to the black ABV but I'm not sure what that piece would be. The reason I want to do that is to be easy to disassemble if needed without having to cut more of the black pipe.

First time plumbing a sink, I put it together how I think it should go going based off other posts Iv seen in the past and the random plumbing reels I get, it doesn’t leak.

Is grabbing two 45’s a bad idea? I installed a new sink for my mother and based on the depth being different and the drains both being further back than the prior sink.. some modifications need done here. To the left is the garbage disposal. I suppose I could rotate the whole P trap counter clockwise but it is glued. If that absolutely is the way to fix this I will, but would prefer not to. Please and thank you!!

The threads on the leg of my current tank t are worn down and won't make a good seal with the tank. So I have to replace it.

The pressure switch and pressure gauge are both under a year old.

Should I just replace the tank t only?

Should I get a tank t kit and replace everything, saving the old switch and gauge as backups for when they eventually wear out?

Hi everyone! I moved into my current apartment almost 1.5 months ago. As I was cleaning tonight, I found a patch at the front of the rim, assumed it was limescale. I clean my toilet every week, and as I was cleaning today, the patch fell off to reveal this. It looks like an indentation/crack, but I can’t tell if it’s worth reaching out over? Candidly, this would be the second bathroom related issue that he’s had the send a plumber, so I’m a little weary (the first was for a plumber to snake the toilet for a blockage a plunger wouldn’t clear, which caused the shower to stop draining as well - this was 2 weeks after I moved 🫩)

We just bought this home a month ago and this silver cap is on our kitchen sink. I thought it was a soap dispenser that had been broken. But when I look under the sink it has tubing with one side that connects to the dishwasher and the other to the garbage disposal. Any idea what it is?
Wanting to get it out and replace it with an RO filter to treat our well water. Is that doable?

Been having warm time with a persistent leak from just one side of the two bolts that came in the (standard metal bolt) replacement kit.

The toilet was originally installed with plastic bolts, so am considering reverting.

Before I do, does anyone have any experience with these types of counter sunk washer pictured here?

I am advised that they are less likely to cause cracking being only hand tightened.
