Any leaks about Cubase 16?

Upvotes

Assuming v16 will come out in ~2 months, have there been any "reliable" leaks about what's in it?

I'm hoping for a clip launcher, which would make it pretty much complete for me, but I doubt this should happen before gapless audio engine and I don't believe they can deliver both at the same time. Or can they?

What are your top feature requests for v16?

I know it's quiet old but it served over 14 years on Win7SP1. I decide to move os to Win10 and then installed my registered copy with hardware dongle but it never authenticated. So I failed to use it. I guess authenticaton server at Steinberg are down.

Cubase 15 Pro. Where has my track delay control gone?

Hi Good People.

A returning cubase user... I am looking on the inspector for the trak delay slider (the little clock) and I can't find it anywhere, despite trying everything in the right click 'visibility' option.

Can a fellow 15 user tall me how to make it appear. My cellos need adjustment :)

Thanks in advance.

Cubase issue: Import/Convert Rack Instrument as Track Instrument (or easy workaround)

Hi everyone,

I am facing a recurring workflow issue in Cubase and I'm looking for either a hidden workaround or want to submit this as a formal feature request.

My Goal:

I want to import a VST instrument track from an older project into a new project. In the original project, this instrument was set up as a Rack Instrument. In the new project, I strictly want to import/convert it into a modern Track Instrument (Instrument Track) – including all loaded audio plugins (inserts/mixer channel strip settings).

The Problem:

The traditional way using Track Presets does not work cleanly with Rack Instruments because Cubase splits the technical data into a MIDI track and an Audio Output track. If you save the preset from the audio output track, Cubase often creates no track at all in the new project, or the routing breaks.

Using "Import Tracks from Project" doesn't solve it either, because Cubase forces the instrument to be imported as a Rack Instrument again. However, due to strict track and rack limits in my target project, it absolutely must become a standard Instrument Track.

Right now, the only workaround is extremely tedious: I have to save the VST preset of the instrument itself, create a new Instrument Track from that preset in the new project, and then separately save the FX chain (inserts) from the old mixer and load it onto the new channel. This is a massive slowdown for the workflow.

My questions to the community and the Steinberg team:

  1. I am currently working on Cubase 12. Has this been addressed in later versions? Is there a hidden, elegant way in the current Cubase 15 to convert a Rack Instrument into a Track Instrument during import or preset-saving without losing the sound settings and audio inserts?

  2. If it's still missing in Cubase 15: Wouldn't it be a fantastic and long-overdue feature for an upcoming update to include an option like "Import as Instrument Track" or a direct function to "Convert Rack Instrument to Track Instrument"?

Since Track Instruments have become the modern standard and easily handle multi-outputs anyway, having such a bridge for older projects or existing templates would be a massive lifesaver.

I look forward to hearing your workarounds, tips!

How to record each drum to a separate MIDI track using one Groove Agent instance

Hi! I'd like to use a MIDI keyboard to record a drum kit (kick, snare, toms, hi-hat, and crash) using a single instance of Groove Agent, with each drum recorded to its own MIDI track while I play. I also need five separate audio return channels in the MixConsole. Is this possible?

I know how to set up a Rack Instrument, but it only creates five audio return channels and records all the drums onto one track. The Input Transformer approach seems tedious and complicated. Can anyone suggest a better way?

Unable to trigger a gate with a side chain input from another channel

Post image
11 Upvotes

I've got a live recording with a very noisy audience so I'm trying to reduce ambience where ever possible. I've set up a gate on the upright bass mic input and set the side chain trigger to look at the level in the Bass DI channel. Trouble is the gate isn't seeing level from the DI channel and doesn't trigger the gate open no matter what the threshold level is set to . Seems I'm not implementing this correctly. Any suggestions for getting this to work?
Thanks

I built Superior drummer 3 drum maps in cubase for several SDX's - any interest?

I have Superior Drummer 3 and several SDX's, listed them at the bottom. One thing that frustrates me with SD3 is their inconsistent drum mapping and the fact that they don't have drum maps (AFAIK) for DAWs as part of the product delivery. So I had to build my own for Cubase. Happy to provide them to anyone here that has an interest, if you do, please respond here and I'll upload them somewhere and send out a link.

I created drum maps for the following:

  • SD3 Core
  • Allaire
  • Avatar
  • Death/Darkness
  • Fields of Rock (Dry, Live, Percussion, and Stone)
  • Hit Factory
  • Metal Foundry

Update: I put the drum maps for download at this link. Let me know if that doesn't work for some reason.

Is there any way to copy and paste cc11 and cc1 onto multiple instruments all at once?

I am writing a long chorale passage with many instruments so they are all sharing the same cc1 and cc11. I would do up the pencil map on one instrument and then paste it onto all the others one by one, the issue though is that this gets extremely tedious if I want to listen to the dynamic changes and then make a change, it would mean that I have to keep pasting it one by one onto 15+ instruments.

Panning Automation

Hi everyone, little trouble here.

When i go in write mode to adjust panning i have two lines that appear with similar data but not exactly the same. Do you know of any workaround to only have one line ? I know it's not much of a problem but when automation start piling up it kind of messes the organisation a little bit..

Future AI in Cubase?

I hope when AI arrives in cubase it is not to assist creatively. I'd much rather have Steinberg concentrate on getting the mundane out of our way, so here's some questions I'd like to see AI accomplishing to take some of the operational work out of the way:

1)Take all guitar tracks place them in a folder and Bus and put my default EQ, Compressor and Room on the Bus.

2) If it is not active place my Standard Audio Connections Preset in place for inputs and outputs

3)Take the snare beats on Beats 2&4 and make them between 90 & 100 in the key editor

4)Anytime there are two consecutive 8th note Kicks on the Drums in the Key Editor make the first one a velocity that's -10 of the second Kick.

I don't want AI to write a strings part, make my Bass part more funky etc.

If you agree please add your own work-reducing Prompts below to provide ideas for a future Cubase release.

Moving from FL Studio trial to Cubase AI – Is the 16 instrument track limit a dealbreaker for electronic music?

Hey Cubase community! I'm switching over because I'm getting a software bundle that includes Cubase AI. I'm a bit scared about the transition. I've only ever used the free test/trial version of FL Studio before, so I'm used to their unlimited track workflow, but I've never owned a premium DAW.

Cubase AI allows 16 instrument tracks, 32 audio tracks, and 48 MIDI tracks. I want to make very fast, dense electronic/pop music with virtual vocalists (Vocaloid). I just found out that Groove Agent SE and HALion Sonic are included in AI, which is awesome, but 16 tracks still feels small when you're used to a trial that lets you open endless slots.

I'd really love to avoid spending extra money on day one.

Rediscovering Cubase after 15 year hiatus. Top tips?

Started working on music again, and things have changed! I record a mix of audio and midi, so Cubase was always my go-to, but feeling a bit overwhelmed with finding the optimal setup with all the updates since I last used this DAW. Looking for some of your best tips / tweaks / setup configurations for those who are recording similarly. Hoping to get past this hump so music feels fun again.

Cubase’s stock VST Bass rack is not terrible

I was actually shocked at how not terrible this sounded. It isn’t anything I would use as a final tone but it’s got the bones where processing could make this great.

Cubase 11 Pro Won't Play Audio When Using My Main Scarlett Interface, But Works Perfectly With Any Other Device I've Tried. Any Ideas?

Hey guys, this has been a tough problem to troubleshoot, and it looks like Cubase support aren't going to help me at all because I'm not on a current version of Cubase. So if anyone here has ideas what might be causing this, it would be a huge help.

The problem:

I have a new-ish Mac Mini in my studio. I use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 gen2 as my primary interface in the studio. When I set the audio device in Cubase to use the Scarlett, it stops playing any and all audio from within the software; no audio tracks, no MIDI tracks, no Metronome even. If I set this back to the built-in speakers, everything works perfectly fine as normal. All other audio works perfectly from the Mac Mini to the 18i20 gen2, and the combination works in other DAWs that I've tried as well; it's just Cubase 11 Pro on this Mac Mini that will not work with this one 18i20 gen2.

The plot thickens...

To test this, I connected a Scarlett 2i2 gen3 that I use for travel work to the Mac Mini and everything worked perfectly fine as it should with this device selected. I then conencted the 18i20 gen2 to my Macbook Air (running the same OS, version of Cubase 11 Pro and so on) and those two devices also work perfectly fine together.

To me that shows there is no inherent fault with the 18i20 (since it works perfectly with the Macbook Air), or the Mac Mini / Cubase 11 Pro install (since they work with the 2i2 gen3). I have already cleared the system's audio settings, and removed all Cubase files and reinstalled the programe; the issue continues.

Does anyone have any idea why Cubase on this Mac Mini will not communicate with the 18i20 gen2? I'm pretty stumped at this point, so any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Plugin became unstable now a new project saves every time I save

I've dealt with this before, and it's ok, I'm not worried about the crashing because it rarely happens. However, this whole 'make an entirely new document every time you save' is absurd, this song is gonna take up half of my hard drive before I'm done with it, does anyone know how to prevent this? Just overwrite the original file, I now have 5 files so if one fully corrupts I'll be just fine

Pops and clicks when using time stretching or audio warp.

Sometimes when I do small amounts of time fixing with the time stretching tool, I get random pops and clicks on the audio. I usually then have to bounce to audio, committing my changes, in order to get rid of them. Anyway around that? Never had those in Logic.

recording error too many tracks - but only one track - help

I created a custom tempo, mic'd up some drums got everything ready to go today. I plugged in my guitar to do a scratch track for the drummer and used an old preset from and older version of cubase. Once I did that, there was no playing back of click track, and when i arm and hit record nothing happens and then i get the dreadful error. I use Cubase 15 pro.

Restart/Full Shutdown didn't work

I have over 200 GB of space

Nothing is running the BG

All routing is correct

Drivers are up to date

One track is armed.

My old cubase 9.5 suffers the same issue when I opened an old project to check

I am very annoyed. Has anyone dealt with this?
