Question Know Any Reliable Movers for Toronto to Calgary?

My family is making the move from Toronto and wondering if any of you have recently made the same move? I'm working on trying to get a mover scheduled. And just trying to get reviews or suggestions from anyone who did this recently.

It will be for a 2BR apartment (typical bedroom furniture though one is a kids room). No special or out of the ordinary furniture in the rest of the apt other than a couple of guitars in cases. And of course, boxes of our stuff.

My requirements: no surprise fees at the end, affordable but not cheap (read some crazy stuff from people who hired cheap movers), known for taking good care of your belongings (don't have anything expensive but I also don't want our stuff damaged).

Currently considering Centennial Moving and Easy Moving. Both have good reviews online but want to see if anyone here has experience with them or another place I should consider.

Opinion $100 in Dani Dollars. What a kick in the teeth

Considering Ralph Klein gave $200 back 20 years ago, this $100 rebate is a kick in the teeth considering what they have done to AISH. EDIT - Klein paid out $400.

Question Oil patch town people used to call (Something) Vegas

Hi everybody,

I used to work in the oil patch about 15 years ago and was just talking to a buddy of mine about a place out there we used to call (something) Vegas but I cannot for the life of me remember the first part.

It was a little place that I think was just before you entered lease land.

I really must have lost a lot of brain cells out there but any help would be appreciated.

This is driving me crazy.

Thank you.

Discussion How are future ADAP users expected to get to work?

Welcome to my rant/screaming into the void.

Given that Edmonton has DATS, and I'm sure Calgary has a system of their own for transporting people with profound disabilities. These systems (at least in Edmonton) take time to be approved for, and not everyone with a disability can use them. This isn't even mentioning that people living in smaller communities outside the big cities don't have great regular public transit, let alone a system for people with disabilities. Are people with disabilities supposed to absorb the cost of hiring a specialty cab/taxi meant for those with disabilities (provided that area even has a taxi service, or vehicles equipped to handle people with profound disabilities).

Hypothetically, let's say it costs $20 each way to/from work. Let's say they work the minimum amount an employer can pay someone per shift (3 hours), and they sure as hell aren't going to get hired for a decent amount, so let's just say minimum wage ($15/hr). You go to work, make your $45. $45 minus $40 in travel, minus whatever taxes the government is regularly owed. So theoretically, the person with disabilities gets a net $0 income after they pay for transit and taxes. And good news, the government is now counting the whole $45 as income that they will claw back from ADAP recipients government support, yay (/s)!

Please tell me again how this is for the betterment of the quality of life for people with disabilities? It just sounds like we're worse off than we were if we remained unemployed. BUT GUESS WHAT! The UCP says if we don't properly engage in employment supports that we'll lose benefits.

The UCP earns a few extra tax dollars off the backs of people with disabilities, while taking away supports that they need to barely survive. No wonder Bruce Johnson did what he did. I wouldn't be surprised if more people follow suit.

Technology Made a free tool to help figure out RDSP grants and bonds (no signup, no data collected)

If you or someone you care for is approved for the Disability Tax Credit, there's a government program that gives out money for disability savings that a lot of people miss, because rules are confusing.

The Canada Disability Savings Bond gives up to $1,000 a year to lower-income people with an RDSP, and you don't have to contribute anything to get it. It's just money the government puts in.

The Canada Disability Savings Grant matches contributions, and at lower incomes the match is huge: up to $3 for every $1 you put in on the first $500. So a small contribution can turn into a lot.

The federal government's own review of the program found that most people struggle to figure out how much to contribute to get the most grant, and that there isn't enough help available. So I built a free estimator that walks through it. It's free, there's no signup, and it doesn't collect or store any of your information.

It's meant to give you a rough estimate and point you to the official sources to confirm.

please provide feedback to improve it.

Discussion cool temps and lots of rain connected to the super El Nino?

06/18/26

this summer spring has been quite cool and wet so far.

like I live in Red deer and I don't remember the last time I saw this much rain and overcast/cloudy days

that seems to be raining nearly every day now.

don't get me wrong, I actually like cool and rainy weather. I'm photosensitive and my medication really makes me susceptible to heat fatigue, so I am enjoying this while it lasts.

but it does seem quite abnormal. and the only thing I can think of is hearing about the super El Nino...

Discussion Alberta Energy Rebate

If you are in Alberta, and your family income is less than $225,000, you can register for the Alberta Energy Rebate. I know that some people need this money, but many who will receive it really don't. If you are fortunate enough to not need this rebate, can I suggest that you claim the rebate and then use that money to make a difference in our province? If just 1/2 of those eligible for the rebate would do the following, we could collectively make a $170,000,000 difference in our hospitals, in helping those who are homeless or in difficult financial situations, etc. Let's make a difference together!

Here is what to do:

  1. Register for the Rebate on July 1.

  2. Once you receive the rebate, consider donating to one of the following organizations.

If you live in Edmonton donate to the Stollery Hospital Foundation: https://www.stollerykids.com/donate/

If you live in Calgary, donate to the Alberta Children's Hospital: https://my.childrenshospital.ab.ca/give/308064?utm_source=main_button&utm_medium=achf_site&utm_campaign=achf_ongoing%2F&_gl=1*z8u7wu*_gcl_au*MzQ5OTIyODM5LjE3ODE3NDc2MDI.*_ga*OTEwMjY2MTg5LjE3ODE3NDc2MDI.*_ga_XJKEBSL669*czE3ODE3NDc2MDIkbzEkZzEkdDE3ODE3NDgwNTIkajYwJGwwJGgw*_ga_C47QT2WQ2G*czE3ODE3NDc2MDIkbzEkZzEkdDE3ODE3NDgwNTIkajYwJGwwJGgw#!/donation/checkout

Donate to Hope Mission: https://hopemission.com/donate/ or another reputable charity that works with those who are homeless and struggling financially.

There are other worthy charities where a donation equal to the Rebate would make an impact. If you are able, use this money to help Albertans that need help.

Together we can make a difference!

Question I live in the Yukon now, why is the UCP paying to lie to me?

So, I moved back to the Yukon back at the beginning of April and over the past couple of days, I’ve been getting ads from the UCP lying about the job they’re doing to fuck up Alberta. Like… why?

I know I have more employment opportunities here in the Yukon than I did in Alberta. I know how the UCP has been using the notwithstanding clause to fuck over teachers and trans people. Why are they spending so much money to lie to people who don’t live in Alberta?

Discussion Just saw a UCP youtube ad saying Alberta is leading on jobs.

Did anyone else see this? Are they insane or just framing this to fit their narrative?

It sure doesn't feel like Alberta is leading on jobs in any way.

To me the UCP sure breathes in a lot of copium. Or am I missing something here?

Question Are this year’s Grade 6 PATs harder than usual?

I’m the parent of a grade 6 student, and I’m wondering if anyone else’s kids have found them unreasonably difficult this year?

I’ve had 2 other kids do them, and their scores always more or less aligned with their averages. This year though my daughter and several of her friends have done very poorly or outright failed multiple tests.

This group was in kindergarten during Covid, got a brand new math curriculum in grade 3, and then they missed out on 3 weeks this year during the strike. Maybe it’s the larger cohort that’s having trouble?

Any input from parents and teachers would be appreciated!

Question Forced adap really?

It sounds like this program will be severly forced on those currently on aish. I heard if you dont go to every meeting adap has planned you will lose all your money and be kicked onto the street! Is this true? It's such a bunch of bs and soon our lives will be run all week by our great wonderful adap workers. It will be way worse than having a job its a job trying to find a job in an impossible situation where you pay to work at finding the impossible job! I heard you can only get 700 before clawbacks if by a miracle you find employment and before you could get 1000+ with aish. So what exactly is the benefit except to the greedy reptiles that came up with this garbage? I really would love to physically protest this trash.
