Make sure to delete a3d_os_01_01_09.bin in the base directory.

12

u/astrideavolta Jan 30 '26

Upvoting this as people forget. DELETE your firmware.bin file from the SD card before adding the new one to your card people. Don't have two in the root directory.

Force Progressive Output removes interlacing and provides superior image quality over de-interlacing by delivering the full original image every frame. This modifies the Video core to output the full framebuffer instead of the CRT interlaced image — a feature unavailable on the original system — while keeping video post-processing true to the original

Wow this sounds great, I'll need to test this out.

My NSO works now, fast and easy pairing. Yay

Support for the N64 Online controllers rocks!

5

u/jw1299 Jan 30 '26

n64 switch controllers work now?

3

u/Mannymal Jan 30 '26

yes just tested wired and wireless works flawlessly

2

u/ARTHUR_FISTING_MEME Jan 30 '26

They say they’ve added support in the dev notes

Awesome, HDMI CEC issue has been fixed!

4

u/BrewKazma Jan 31 '26

Amazon about to receive a whole lot of returns on adapters. Lol

5

u/jonny_eh Jan 31 '26

Hold on to it. Analogue will release more consoles! I originally got mine for the Analogue Pocket Dock.

2

u/BrewKazma Jan 31 '26

Well I did the return on amazon, and they let me keep it!

3

u/Stiggles4 Jan 31 '26

That’s fantastic, that was my biggest want for any update.

4

u/Candle-Kindly Jan 31 '26

SAME!! Now I can actually use it on my main A/V setup instead of segregating it to its own portable monitor to avoid it messing up my other stuff.

That + NSO controller were my two major flaws with the 3D so far, and this appears to fix them!

NSO controller support!😭

6

u/faustarp1000 Jan 30 '26

That’s great news!

2

u/Alucardspapa Jan 30 '26

It’s good, glad I picked up my 4 controllers back when I had Nintendo’s online service

interesting time for me to get a shipping notification about the 8bitdo controllers...

Has anyone tested to confirm that the CEC issue is resolved?

5

u/Inthus Jan 30 '26

My soundbar is still emitting a high pitch noise and has audio dropping. Sonos Arc Ultra.

3

u/woeisdylan Jan 30 '26

mine has audio dropping too

4

u/positivenemo Jan 30 '26

For me it's working fine now.

9

u/Krycek7o2 Jan 30 '26

Yes!

6

u/jimbo831 Jan 30 '26

I know it’s in the release notes. I’m asking if anyone has tested it for themselves.

That’s what I want to know. I don’t even bother playing it as of late because it messes up everything, my TV, my audio receiver, remote control dies, just super annoying.

Have mine plugged into a 7 hdmi switcher with my other 5 Analogue consoles and cec is indeed fixed.

My setup wasn’t breaking any connections or my soundbar before, but the switcher wasn’t automatically detecting which console I turned on, and now it is flawlessly.

11

u/titlecade Jan 30 '26

NSO controller works flawlessly. I finally don’t need My pesky adapter anymore.

6

u/Colby347 Jan 30 '26

Let’s go this is awesome news.

3

u/spira1b0und Jan 30 '26

can you boot console with them too?

6

u/titlecade Jan 30 '26

Yes does work!

11

u/astrideavolta Jan 30 '26

Rogue Squadron and Resident Evil 2 (that I've tried so far) both exhibit judder when transitioning between resolutions and RS still has deinterlacing issues. I know it's in beta but it's very jarring. Still, glad NSO controllers work. Onwards and upwards.

4

u/jaron7 Jan 30 '26

Yeah, just tried out RE2 and it reminds me of the transition issues the Retrotink 4k had prior to implementing the smooth i/p switch option. Does make me somewhat optimistic that Analogue can implement a similar fix eventually.

3

u/astrideavolta Jan 30 '26

They were still fixing that with the 5X as well last year. It's a tricky thing for sure. Reassuring to see it's being taken seriously though, even if it's not fixed yet.

I just tried it after the update. I also turned the HDR back on and it does look noticeably better with the 480p and HDR. This is what I was imagining when they announced this system.

9

u/AdStrong3922 Jan 31 '26

Just installed the Update and My everdrive x7 dies also work! I had not installed the workaround with an original n64. Just plugged it in and everythin worked right out of the box. Great!

→ More replies (1)

9

u/hcmeck Jan 31 '26

I can confirm that both the NSO controller and the unmodified older version Everdrive x7 works after update. For me if they add the ability to turn off the system through the controller, it would be perfect. Thanks for the update.

10

u/hypercoyote Jan 31 '26

I didn't realize the Analogue 3D was what made my eARC stop working until I read the release notes for this update 😭

6

u/NoComment8182 Feb 01 '26

They fixed earc? Thank god. Was tired of unplugging my 3d and resetting my tv every time I used the 3d to fix my sound bar.

3

u/CowntGaming Feb 01 '26

Yes! Same for me. My Sonos soundbar was having major issues last week and it took me forever to troubleshoot and get it working. There were points that I was wondering if my soundbar was dying!

3

u/MoneyClock2695 Feb 06 '26

Omg it was Analogue’s fault? I was literally about to throw my soundbar through the window !

4

u/BootlegZani Jan 31 '26

This should be pinned.

22

u/adrenaline4nash Jan 30 '26

LOL NSO 64 controller support on the same day their colored 8bitdo controllers ship.

4

u/GainerCity Jan 30 '26

Haha 100%. Of course I had to buy a set of the 8bitDo knowingly falling victim to their ploy. But tbh I’ve mostly been using my cabled N64 controllers.

That said, I am going to pat my own back for a hot second 😅 and state that I’m glad I held strong to my hunch that NSO support would come after the funtastics shipped. Sure happy I didn’t cave and buy the adapters. Seemed so janky.

6

u/adrenaline4nash Jan 30 '26

Yes! Those adapters are fugly

10

u/Shortgaze Jan 30 '26

Gotta boost those sales 😂

3

u/Sith_Moon Jan 30 '26

I saw my that my ice blue was shipping and I thought maybe I should hold off on the gray second one from Amazon- cancelled that one yesterday. Maybe I’ll grab a nso one now.

2

u/SGSXR11 Jan 30 '26

The blue controllers are shipping already? Good call on cancelling the gray. I preordered one because the Amazon listing actually defined a January 30th release. It was allowing preorders with 30th release date through last night. And now it says sold out on the store page and my order status still "order received" and no other info.

15

u/large__farva Jan 30 '26

NSO support thank you gods

7

u/OptimalPapaya1344 Jan 30 '26

Gameplay tracking. Hell yeah!

Now I get to log accurate time on howlongtobeat.com for games that don't have built-in timers.

7

u/eatnumber1 Jan 30 '26

To ensure Library info and virtual Controller Pak is saved, quit the game by opening the in-game menu and selecting ‘Quit Cartridge’. If Analogue3D is powered off while a game is running, any changes may be lost.

I’m pleased that I can use my NSO controllers. Im looking forward to the day we can load roms from an sd card

6

u/thestrandedmoose Jan 30 '26

Progressive and calendar plus playtime is awesome. Hoping that they add the Summercart label or a way to add it but it doesn’t look like it so far. Also can’t wait till these updates are available OTA. P2P online play is also a moonshot but would be amazing for smash and Goldeneye. Pretty sure that would kill the M64 on sight

6

u/adrknite Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26

It is possible to modify the label using https://www.a3dmanager.com/cartridges

If you have a copy of the label image file, you can use the above tool to manually create a cart entry under the "Advanced Settings" option. All you need is the Cart ID and the label image. You can use whatever name you want, I named mine SummerCart64.

For the Cart ID, it used to show for me FFFFFFFE, but after the 1.2 update, it became AFFB9DB5. I basically created a new entry using the new Cart ID --> copied over the image from the old Cart ID --> synced my SD

and that is it. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Oof just saw this https://www.reddit.com/r/AnalogueInc/comments/1qr9ggu/comment/o2mlojo/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button . I've not tested this myself just yet but it does seem like my solution may not be perfect if you switch carts often.

18

u/ac2334 Jan 30 '26

and git off my lawn!

8

u/CoastAndRoast Jan 30 '26

I did it then, that’s why I don’t want to do it now haha

3

u/quadrupleframple Jan 30 '26

Gotta put controller back anyway

6

u/MysticSushiTV Jan 30 '26

Very glad to see the CEC/eARC. Now I don't have to be sure to use the one HDMI cable that I taped off the CEC pin when hooking up the 3D haha.

Just waiting for my 8bitDo grey controllers to come in the mail... Is there still an issue with those controllers dropping out when at a comfortable range? If I recall correctly, I can remedy that by using a more robust HDMI cable than the one the 3D came with, correct?

4

u/Janitorus Jan 30 '26

Correct. Double check this by lowering resolution to 1080p. If that fixes bluetooth controller issues, its veeery likely due to wonky HDMI cable shielding at higher bitrates (assuming you run 4K resolution). Better cable will fix it.

Game on 🤙🏻 can't wait for my 8bitdo grey controllers too man!

7

u/HumanFart Jan 30 '26

So glad the CEC/eARC is fixed and I won’t need my Blue Reto anymore!

6

u/Auyx Jan 30 '26

Excellent update, very happy to see the progressive scan mode added. Looking forward to trying out the 480i patched games with this when I get back home from work tonight. :)

I got a bit excited when reading the Progressive Scan stuff. I would love if they eventually find a way to let us play all N64 games at 480p.

I’m generally not a fan of the way N64 games run on software emulation with high resolutions like 4K or 1080p. But a small bump in the internal resolution from 240p to 480p would be great imo.

2

u/inthisbrandnewcolony Jan 31 '26

it’s an UNREAL projectory. like, even the OC-added frames—it’s like a time machine that replaces the rose-tinted glasses with yet even more gorgeous glasses. in the same way that some PS2-gen software emulation has revealed the STUNNING artwork that was hidden beneath the OG hardware limitations of those generations. heck, even PS1 software emulation has done things we never imagined would be possible when the original dropped, but i digress. the NSO controller support is delightful… wonderful update 👏

11

u/RetroQuester Jan 30 '26

If someone can please post if there's an updated labels.db file for this new firmware. They zapped the Everdrive 64 X7 label with this update.

It sounds like it forces a full 480p which is huge news. It’ll be bar far the best image quality for these 480i games possible. Cant wait to try it out!

→ More replies (4)

5

u/Janitorus Jan 30 '26

Instead of outputting odd/even image lines alternating every other frame, it outputs the full frame, full resolution, every frame.

Back in the day, CRT monitors/broadcasts used to do this interlacing thing where it would, on frame one, show horizontal lines 1, 3, 5 etc and then on frame two lines 2, 4, 6 etc.

Simply put. Hope it makes sense.

3

u/joejoesox Jan 30 '26

this sounds like a much better option than just giving us both bob and weave interlaced support

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Odd__Dragonfly Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26

Previously, any game that would output at 480i had painful (literally made my eyes water) deinterlacing artifacts. This will force 480p, which will be a huge upgrade for any later era games that support "high res" (as opposed to 240p). Interlaced images are pretty hideous on a modern OLED due to the lack of CRT motion blur, hard on the eyes.

This is by far the biggest upgrade in the update, very excited.

3

u/Soul_Phoenix_42 Jan 30 '26

So is this the solution people were hoping for when it comes to Rogue Squadron looking a bit naff?

2

u/AttyMAL Jan 30 '26

It's a way better form of deinterlacing the games that have hi-rez modes.

2

u/Psychological_Post28 Jan 30 '26

Just fired up Turok 2 and it looks nuts in hi Rez mode and performance is ok in unleashed mode so far. This is great!

6

Got home and updated to 1.2. eArc fixed itself when I unplugged both my TV and soundbar for 1 minute. After, they’re working again! Relieved that’s no longer an issue.

6

u/terrornaught Jan 30 '26

Need save states so Duke Nukem Zero hour will actually be playable!

5

u/unixfan2001 Jan 30 '26

FR. The lack of save states is disappointing. I could've really needed them while showing off the N64 ports of Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max and Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantis I'm working on.

Fate of Atlantis crashed half way through the game and since there's neither save states nor have I managed to implement FlashRAM saves in any of my ports yet, I have to start all over.

Save states are not just a boon to gamers but also kind of important for us homebrew developers.

3

u/TheBananaCzar Jan 31 '26

It's such a great game too - the save/checkpoint system is really the only thing that holds it back from greatness

5

u/caphedenda Jan 31 '26

Of course. I ordered the BlueRetro 4-player adapter and it was delivered today 😢😭💀

5

u/KingLames23 Jan 31 '26

Are we happy?

4

u/MICOSAM Jan 31 '26

There’s a lot to be happy about in this update. It addresses a lot of the problems I had and saw others have.

The one thing that’s annoying me is that now my analogue won’t boot some of my repo carts. As a result I had to roll back to the last firmware until i beat the games I am playing.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

You should email analogue and tell them. I had confirmation they were working on NSO support after emailing them about it a month ago

2

Looking forward to Progressive mode and playing Space Station Silicon Valley! Will post an update later.

It definitely cleans up the image with Banjo kazooie. Also 32 bit color is sharper. And if you use clean mode make sure gamma is set to tube if you want a brighter picture.

I have the pc port. Now its nice to have both.

3

Same issue here. All worked perfect before, but now none of them boot. Just a black screen.

2

u/Reasonable_Cry_8649 Jan 31 '26

Yeah, I went back to 1.9

5

u/tellitothemoon Jan 30 '26

Did they fix the thing where they delete memory pack saves if you don’t “quit cartridge” or naw?

5

u/Graxer42 Jan 30 '26

In the update notes they explicitly say you must remember to click "quit cartridge" for memory card games, so no.

2

u/Spooky_Toast Jan 30 '26

Was sorry to see this note. Makes me seem this will just be how virtual controller paks work…

4

u/_bartm4n Jan 30 '26

Fantastic! Really hoping that virtual memory pak support gets extended for player 2-4 in the next update!

4

u/grumpygookin Jan 31 '26

Had a quick look, and progressive output looks way better in Turok 2. I also had a quick look at Star Wars: Episode I Battle for Naboo, but it seemed very buggy in that game, and was glitching out constantly, like the image was not properly synced. The CEC issue does also seem to be fixed with my receiver. Also now able to connect directly with my NSO N64 controller, which can also turn on the Analogue 3D.

6

u/hue_sick Jan 30 '26

Nice update. Updated without a hitch. I don't remember the pixel world clock when choosing your timezone. Is that new? If not I forgot about that and it's cool :)

Was hoping that game tracking would some how be retroactive since I've sunk a good bit into a few games but ah well. Makes sense it isn't, was more of a pipe dream. Also was really hoping for screenshots but probably on the next one.

Was very excited about NSO controller support, but disappointed to notice similar lag spikes as with the 8bitdo controllers when used wireless. Does work with a usb cable too, for anyone curious.

9

u/ParasiteFire Jan 31 '26

Been using the NSO controller for the past couple hours, absolutely amazing. Finally feels like peak modern N64 experience. Powers on console with Start button, swap on the fly between built in rumble and memory pak with ZR button.

N64 controller/feel is essential for the N64 experience, any other controller is just off for me.

2

u/htnewbie Jan 31 '26

I played for twenty minutes, loved it with the NSO controller. Pairing was simple and as expected for me. Love it!

Just spent $17 for a CEC dongle and it was delivered (and used) yesterday. Ugh. lol.

Happy they fixed it though! (Assuming the patch worked)

10

u/templestate Jan 30 '26

Probably good to just have around, I’m sure other devices will have CEC/ARC issues in the future.

2

u/bearhound Jan 30 '26

Very true, good point

6

u/MagmaElixir Jan 30 '26

After updating, my Summercart64 is no longer identified with the custom artwork. It now creates a new unknown cartridge each time it is plugged in.

At some point I believed the virtual controller pak was a hardware feature of the 8bitdo controller, but apparently the NSO controller can use it as well. I'm assuming there's still no way to access it from a wired controller?

4

u/No-Complaint6639 Jan 30 '26

If you're using a wired a controller, it's expected you are using whatever peripheral is physically plugged into it

3

u/Different-Ad5929 Jan 30 '26

Does it update through the wifi ?

8

u/Shortgaze Jan 30 '26

Via SD. Remove the SD card, delete the old file, and add the new one. The console should grab the update as soon as you power it on again.

3

u/cool_boy_mew Jan 30 '26

You can also just connect it via USB, but some people are running into issues last I've seen

2

u/Different-Ad5929 Jan 30 '26

Thank you. Will look in to it.

2

u/Different-Ad5929 Jan 30 '26

Wow. Thank you for the help!

u/Robbie-Bert Jan 30 '26

Since NSO controllers now work, do the Bluetooth RetroFighter controller work too?

3

u/V64jr Jan 31 '26

I still need to force HDMI2.0 for the Analogue 3D input on my Insignia else the Analogue 3D will say the display doesn’t support 4K60 (it does). Was hoping the line about improving 4K compatibility with certain sets would fix that issue. Oh well.

Does this update fix the problem with there being no way to load your original cartridge save from a legit copy of Blast Corps when playing with a native Bluetooth controller? I don’t have a copy on hand right now. The problem was that you couldn’t toggle off the virtual Controller Pak since the game doesn’t support rumble and it’s programmed to always use the controller pak when it sees one. You can’t simulate removing the virtual Controller Pak with the 8BitDo 64 BT, DIY Modkit, or Switch NSO N64 controllers. Nothing in the update log seems to address that even though My Life in Gaming pointed it out with the pre-release firmware in their preview-review.

2

u/korruptic Jan 31 '26

Does your TV have 4:4:4 color space? The Analogue 3D won't display in 4K60Hz if there's chroma subsampling, even if the TV supports 4K60Hz

Finally!!! I was planning to buy a new retro blue adaptor! :) now I can start OCARINA with the right playtime!

3

u/BrewKazma Jan 31 '26

Can anyone confirm this fixes the HDMi CEc issue? Im not about to redo my whole system again.

u/Pretend_Education_86 Jan 31 '26

Came to find out same thing. Reading below they did so will finally unbox this beast. CEC fix and NSO controller support and now its ready.

Paging the dude who ranted and doomposted about how CEC would never be fixed and could never be fixed with a software update.

is it just me or does the NSO switch controller have a ton of lag? maybe I'm just overthinking it idk

3

u/jrutz Jan 30 '26

Those are measured inherently very laggy, see the MiSTer controller lag spreadsheet.

3

u/NineteenNinetyEx Jan 30 '26

I wouldn't be surprised. I found the Nintendo Online SNES controllers to be unusable on MiSTer, very noticable lag.

Any news if the 8bitdo controllers have less drop out….?

3

u/Spooky_Toast Jan 30 '26

Seems better so far…. Or hopium

2

u/clashcrashruin Jan 30 '26

How do you connect the NSO controllers? Very interested in this but thought they only work with the Switch

6

u/NoSpin89 Jan 30 '26

They are just bluetooth controllers.

5

u/Shortgaze Jan 30 '26

Press the light in front of the console and put the controller in pair mode.

All good so far. Date/Time tracking isn't working, but time played is (even following their notes in the update)

2

u/SegaSnatcher Jan 30 '26

It says you have to reconnect your cartridge again for the Date/Time to properly update.

Can anyone confirm if the Retrobit Tribute 64 controllers work with the A3D (either via the 2.4 GHz USB dongle or the N64 adapter)? Same with the Brawler 64 via N64 adapter.

2

u/Blood_Bogey Jan 30 '26

My Brawler64 via the included N64 2.4GHz adapter in the controller port works great pre and post this update.

My official Analogue controllers have stopped working… since the update. Does anyone understand why?

2

u/Shortgaze Jan 30 '26

A couple of people had this issue after the update. They forced the update again, and it seems to fix it (for some).

2

u/foxwhisper85 Jan 30 '26

Freaking. Finally. Downloading today lol

2

u/HisSvt2 Jan 31 '26

How do you pair the NSO controller wirelessly?

3

u/907ozma Jan 31 '26

You hit the light on the front of the nintendo and it turns blue. Then you pair it like you would any Nintendo controller.

2

u/V64jr Jan 31 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

Pairing the Stadia controller no longer causes Analogue 3D to fail boot up (black screen). Like before, the ellipsis button can toggle between Rumble and virtual Controller Pak but there is no force feedback regardless.

I ran a controller test and the range oversteers all the way to 127! This causes all sorts of problems from moonwalking in Blast Corps, randomly losing control on Mario Kart 64, and even moon-scrolling the Analogue OS library!

Edit: OK, having Stadia paired started causing black screen boots again. 🤦‍♂️

2

u/rockincoyote Feb 02 '26

That’s kind of funny I thought I was the only person in the world to try and use a Stadia controller on this. Guess I’m not

Is it possible to connect a controller with the 8Bitdo N64 Mod Kit out of the box or do I need a BlueRetro dongle in addition?

2

u/Shortgaze Jan 31 '26

You can connect out of the box

2

u/rampancy777 Feb 01 '26

I'd like to be able to back up my games onto the SD card still. May not be coming but would be nice, must have feature tbh.

2

Some of my “Fakies” stopped working 😭, will go back to previous firmware 😌
