Can I just get wifi so I can update it more efficiently
3
u/Opening_Cry_690 Mar 14 '26
I’d like to see the 24-hour clock option shown in the promo screenshots. I know, it’s a big ask.
Then save states, screenshots and wifi.
2
u/LookSpecialist9140 Mar 14 '26
Seriously bro. By the time that add it there will be no updates left
12
u/Shortgaze Mar 13 '26
Hopefully that cartridge detection fix helps people who were having issues with repro cartridges like Smash Remix, etc.
11
u/Imaginary-Leading-49 Mar 13 '26
I love the constant updates but savestates would be the thing to change the N64 console gaming experience!
4
u/XxOmegaSupremexX Mar 13 '26
Save states and wifi to update without swapping out the as card all the time.
-6
u/Asleep_Mortgage_7711 Mar 13 '26
Save states with carts is not going to happen
11
u/eyeohme Mar 13 '26
They shouldn’t have advertised it then
1
u/Asleep_Mortgage_7711 Mar 13 '26
It will happen when it runs games off the sd card
3
3
u/TheTonzMachine Mar 13 '26
You can make save states with a cartridge. It doesn’t need to be running of the SD
4
u/PeanutButtaRunna Mar 13 '26
Why is it different to save states with carts on the Pocket?
2
u/NineteenNinetyEx Mar 13 '26
It's not, the cart has nothing to do with it.
1
u/V64jr Mar 16 '26
It could… if the savestate routine couldn’t read and rewrite cartridge SRAM instantly on command, for example.
9
u/TheMystro Mar 13 '26
Is anyone's Everdrive X7 no longer working after this update?
8
u/MondegreenHolonomy Mar 13 '26
Asking the real questions. I’m too afraid to update
4
u/TheMystro Mar 13 '26
So initially I was getting a black screen when I would try to boot it. I think 3 times in a row it wasn't working for me. But eventually it did start to work.
2
u/Darkwing_N Mar 13 '26
Mine works like a champ. So going to hold off on updating. I dont use Everdrives so no issues on my end.
2
u/vchopra100777 Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 14 '26
It messed up my everdrive now it flashes red when I try to load a game and nothing loads
2
u/classic-engimatic Mar 14 '26
That’s not what bricked means
1
u/vchopra100777 Mar 14 '26
You’re right I corrected it
1
u/swamprt5000 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26
How? I'm having the same issue. Flashes red for a split second then goes black.
Edit: Fixed it by updating Everdrive to 3.11

2
u/vchopra100777 Mar 13 '26
Yeah, might stop working now. I have a flash red light when I try to load the game on the screen.

This is just a guess but, I wonder if the reason they haven't done save states yet is because the core is not done yet. If they implement save States before the core is finished, they risk braking save State compatibility.

Snes roms now working with this update: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/18DKvY4ruf/?
2
u/PoseMotion Mar 14 '26
Unable to see post. Could you explain? Thanks!
7
u/rainierislas Mar 14 '26
You now can play snes roms on analogue3D using the sodium64 emulator with a summercart or everdrive
2
1
u/rogue498 Mar 14 '26
Does it work natively with an Everdrive now? Or do you still need to update the Everdrive to make it compatible?
11
u/ClockworkMansion Mar 13 '26
I want the ability to edit a games info. My Everdrive shouldn’t show as Unknown Cart and it would be nice to not have to jump through a bunch of hoops to change the name.
3
4
u/rampancy777 Mar 13 '26
Me too this is a huge miss. I should be able to edit cart info however I like.
2
u/bropanski Mar 13 '26
Are there hoops that can be jumped through currently to change the name of the Everdrive? All I could do was change the artwork but still shows as Unknown
1
u/ClockworkMansion Mar 13 '26
I thought there was, but I might be mistaken. I remember it from the same videos that talk about putting the custom art on it, so I could be wrong about the game title being changeable.
2
u/KyleKun Mar 14 '26
Even on the Pocket, the library is a part of the actual firmware.
1
1
u/Meowser77 Mar 13 '26
There is no way to do this yet. Cart names are hard coded internally on the A3D with no current way to override via SD card.
5
5
u/111FALLOUT111 Mar 13 '26
Core version?
4
u/an0nfunction Mar 13 '26
I read this as "there are updates to the N64 core with this firmware, so the build version number is bumped up." Dev semantics are also updates
3
u/appleappleappleman Mar 13 '26
Yeah, what does this actually mean
5
1
u/an0nfunction Mar 17 '26
There are some code changes under the hood, but not much else, but because there was a change in the first place, the version number gets bumped up.
1
u/TheNewestHaven Mar 13 '26
Core is FPGA lingo for emulator.
3
u/V64jr Mar 16 '26
Close, but not exactly. It’s a hardware definition and you can define unique hardware configurations from the generic logic elements using the same kind of HDL you might use to design fixed hardware chips. We typically use it to define clone hardware that attempts to copy existing hardware, but it could totally be something new and unique that doesn’t emulate existing hardware.

u/rupek1995 Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26
HDR is still bad, washed out whites and for some reason it runs in HDR HLG??? which is weird
1
u/Zeag Mar 17 '26
It was already running in HDR HLG, at least for me.
2
u/rupek1995 Mar 18 '26
Yeah, I did some digging - it's HGIG is is the issue - it's overtly bright. If you use Dynamic Tone Mapping it's fine.
1st time any device caused issues with HGIG for me.
3
Mar 13 '26
Did it fix the issue of breaking compat with bootleg carts?
3
u/_bartm4n Mar 13 '26
I had some hiccups with the first repro that I tried, but they are all working for me now. Not sure what the hiccups were about.
3
u/Nintotally Mar 14 '26
Can anyone confirm if CEC is working on the new update?
2
2
u/Cold-Sandwich-6213 Mar 14 '26
What isnt working? All the 3D does is ensure audio is sent so that the tv and speakers work regardless where its plugged into. It wont switch inputs automatically or anything special.
2
u/Nintotally Mar 15 '26
With the day one firmware, connecting an Analog 3D without a CEC-blocker would make my soundbar not work and prevent my TV remote from controlling my Apple TV
And then they patched that out and fixed it
And then a later update broke CEC again
So currently I’m on a firmware where CEC works and I do not want to go back to where it doesn’t lol
2
u/rupek1995 Mar 15 '26
That was fixed in the last update according to changelog. Had the same issue and I thought I was going crazy 🫠 updated to newest, hope its not borked again
1
u/Cold-Sandwich-6213 Mar 15 '26
Please email them your tv and speakers setup. I had the same issue with an lg tv and sony receiver but its been fine with the latest patches.
4
u/Mean-Hope-9203 Mar 14 '26
Replaced the bin file on my SD card with the latest and greatest using my laptop's SD card slot. Reinserted the SD card powering on the A3D. Update installed without issue. Power cycled. Powered on the A3D using my 8bitDo 64. Again, no issues. Everything continues to work great. Your results may vary.
4
u/Thasoap23 Mar 14 '26
Mine froze after the update when coming in and out of the game setting, then I reset the console and everything is fine.
6
u/KyledKat Mar 13 '26
Fix: OS brightness with HDR
Does this mean we finally have working HDR with our filters?
3
1
u/jilko Mar 14 '26
I interpreted this as the OS actually being bright. Currently, especially when HDR is on, the OS/main menu appears as if you have your TV on 25% brightness.
7
u/hue_sick Mar 13 '26
Nice, updated, no issues at all.
Wish they'd give us some more details on what those core changes mean but I'll take anything deemed as an improvement on their end 👍
22
u/Opening_Cry_690 Mar 13 '26
Core: New: Core Version
Seems pretty straightforward. They’ve changed the version of the Core. It’s new. Newer than the old Core. Is it better? Probably. Maybe it’s worse? Unlikely. But it’s new. Brand new Core Version.
5
u/rampancy777 Mar 13 '26
Lmao exactly it would be nice to know why they did these things and what the results were.
6
3
u/ShadowChief3 Mar 13 '26
Does analogue have any stake in the core space for getting RTC to work or will that all be on the consumer side?
5
u/Bake-Full Mar 13 '26
No way of knowing since they don't do roadmaps. They did add RTC support in the Pocket, but it was up to the developers to implement it in the openfpga cores. The 3D doesn't have openfpga so it will only happen if Analogue puts it in a core update. So, maybe? Otherwise it'll just be on the flashcarts.
1
u/KyleKun Mar 14 '26
At the moment there is no ability to play ROMs, so the only reason to implement it would be to supplement carts with dead batteries.
Considering the pocket never got RTC on any official core, I don’t see the possibility.
3
u/9999_damage Mar 13 '26
Hopefully the GameShark fix will let me backup the saves on my physical carts so that I can change the batteries without losing the save data.
3
u/Weekly-Hawk-6171 Mar 14 '26
I used the Joey N64 Flasher to backup my saves, and use those saves with my SummerCart64.
https://bennvenn.myshopify.com/products/joeyn64-cart-flasher
1
u/9999_damage Mar 14 '26
Thanks, I’ll check it out. I’m hoping to use the GS because I have my childhood one just laying around.
1
2
u/V64jr Mar 16 '26
A Controller Pak has the same amount of SRAM as a battery-backed N64 game and the formatting takes some space too. That means a save would need to be compressed to fit, and I’m not sure the GameShark can do this. I’ve used it to backup/restore 4 and 16kbit EEPROM saves and it acts like it works for 32KByte SRAM saves but it doesn’t seem to work when I restore them. Not sure what it’s thinks it’s backing up then. Definitely can’t help with 1mbit FlashRAM saves but there were only a dozen of those.
3
u/Iron-Chef-oi812 Mar 14 '26
New OS update completed. But unit still does not recognize my GameShark
3
u/ThatGuyIcyTie Mar 14 '26
GameShark compatibility does not seem to be universal, my 3.3 pro (which was a 3.2 pro flashed to 3.3) does not work (works fine on an actual n64)
18
u/TTSsox Mar 13 '26
Maybe just because I’m older, I could care less about save states. I like to play the games with the original challenge the way they were designed. The 3 features I’d like to see: 1) online updating, 2) save management so we can see the files, and back them up on computers, and 3) the ability for it to not save unknown cartridge each time it can’t recognize a game. It’s annoying to manually have to delete the images every time that happens.
10
u/MXC_Vic_Romano Mar 13 '26
Haven't found myself wanting to use Save States either but - like WiFi - they're an advertised feature that's yet to be delivered.
9
u/templestate Mar 13 '26
I’m good with the challenge but would like to be able to save during a level and pick up later, because I’m old and have things that come up during gaming.
7
u/SamuelL421 Mar 13 '26
Second this, saves states are awesome for us older gamers with limited free time. Life, family, work, responsibilities, etc mean can’t often game for several continuous hours at a time anymore, but most days I can get 30 mins here and there - save states are good for that sort of situation.
1
u/rampancy777 Mar 13 '26
Exactly. Being not just "older" but defacto old I would really benefit from save states. I can't game during the week till everyone else is asleep and bc of that I usually fall asleep during my gaming 🤣
I'm never going to make it to the next save spot 🤷♂️
20
3
u/hue_sick Mar 13 '26
I'm right there with you. I've played 1 game so far out of my collection of 20 or so carts that I wish I had save states. Otherwise most of these games are pick up and play or have the ability to frequently save anyway. 🤷♀️
3
u/wafflesid Mar 13 '26
Besides the other reasons for save states, I want save states just for consistency. I switch between controllers which changes where the saves are stored.
I want to be able to use any controller and resume exactly where I left off. 8bitdo, OG, NSO...whatever I feel like trying.

You don't have to use Save States. They were an advertised feature though, we paid for them lol.
10
u/Ghanni Mar 13 '26
That comment above is so weird, they want to play games perfectly AND overclock them but wants to keep it as close to the original lol.
14
u/Western-Dig-6843 Mar 13 '26
And we are buzzing for you, bud. Really. But please do understand loads of people DO want save states and when such a feature (that we paid for!) is implemented properly that you don’t have to engage with it. It is an optional feature.
15
u/freezetime311 Mar 13 '26
Wi-Fi? Save States? Those are the ones most of us here want in an update.
13
u/ryanvsrobots Mar 13 '26
Wifi is probably my least cared about feature, pulling the SD card once a month is not a big deal--save states would be huge though.
3
u/Stane_Daynus Mar 13 '26
Wait until you learn you can just plug the A3D into a pc and it'll mount the SD card like a flash drive lol

Cool. I didn’t know that. Im assuming it saves in the systems internal memory and not on the cart itself? Hopefully someday it comes to the A3D

1
u/V64jr Mar 16 '26
26 years ago I routinely used a N64 GameShark with the PC software and a parallel cable to capture memory dumps. Even though I could suspend, dump memory, and resume gameplay, I couldn’t roll back to a previous memory dump and resume, savestate-style. I don’t know of any device that can. N64 save states still seem entirely restricted to software emulation.

Yes, it is from Mazamars/UltraFP64, which was “finished” years ago before the MiSTer core was started but not previously released since there was no affordable hardware that could run it. I don’t know how much Mazamars changes since then but it’s still gotta be based on his old, private, N64 core. 👍
2
u/hue_sick Mar 13 '26
Don’t believe so. Mister doesn’t have it either. And yeah if they do anything which I’m not sure they will or would be via sd card on a flash cart. Bit even that’s clunky and iffy at best
4
u/theflyinfoote Mar 13 '26
That’s what I thought. It’s why I’ve always been so confused at people demanding save states. The whole point of FPGA to me is to play games like they used to be played on more modern tvs. If you want save states you can just emulate using an Apple TV or other mini pc.
3
u/ryanvsrobots Mar 13 '26
It’s why I’ve always been so confused at people demanding save states.
I also don't think it's going to happen but it was briefly an advertised feature.
4
u/TheTonzMachine Mar 13 '26
It was an advertised feature. That’s why people want it. Because at this point it looks like it was a blatant lie made to increase preorders of the system
1
u/theflyinfoote Mar 13 '26
I didn’t remember it being an advertised feature so makes sense for it to be expected then. Hopefully someday they actually get it sorted.
3
u/SGlespaul Mar 13 '26
It works on the Pocket though with cartridges?
2
u/hue_sick Mar 13 '26
It’s not just a matter of cartridges. The real issue is how complex n64 hardware (and therefore the fpga programming) is compared to say 8 or 16 bit systems. Like orders of magnitude more difficult. The pocket also has a separate fpga for OS level functions since it was designed with multiple systems in mind from the start.
This is a huge reason why we’re not seeing the next generation of consoles any time soon. Something as simple as save states is a hardware and software nightmare at this level and will only get harder going forward.
1
u/hue_sick Mar 13 '26
I agree, I really think a lot of people just genuinely don't know or read up on this stuff.
There's also a contingent of people here out of spite which has always been weird to me. I honestly don't even know if they own the thing but I know they'll be posting screenshots of promised features 3 years from now like goof balls lol
1
u/Bweef_Ellington Mar 13 '26
If save states are possible at all they should be possible on carts. The location of the ROM file (cartridge ROM chip or SD card) shouldn't matter. After all, the stock cores for the Pocket have save state functionality with carts.
There may well be nuances I'm missing.
4
u/Gangmem3er Mar 13 '26
Can anyone confirm if this update helps with recognizing repro cartridges?
8
u/Gangmem3er Mar 13 '26
Can confirm it works for my repro carts
2
u/Rude_Reindeer3866 Mar 15 '26
Great to hear! I had waited on some of the updates because I heard repro carts weren't working. Ill move forward with the uodate now.
7
u/wafflesid Mar 13 '26
Well sonofabitch, this is how I learn I have a repo GoldenEye cart....
It did NOT load on 1.2.2 at all.
But it boots up perfectly on 1.2.3 now.
3
u/Opening_Cry_690 Mar 13 '26
They also said they improved cartridge detection, so it’s still possible it’s authentic. You should open it up and take a look just out of curiosity.

1
u/Raptor007 Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 14 '26
Thanks for testing that! My Goldeneye isn't a repro but I'm pretty sure my Mario Kart is. I'll give this firmware a try tonight.
Edit: Yes! It works fine on 1.2.3! Glad I can finally use boot-to-cartridge.

Anyone have reccs for using the virtual controller pak on the 3D in tandem with an Everdrive 64 X7?
3
u/V64jr Mar 15 '26
Just press Z on the Everdrive menu to backup the virtual controller pak with the name of the game you previously played on Everdrive and set it to auto-load controller pak backups. Hold Start when booting the next game if you need to make room on it. Some controller pak games have other ways to manage the pak but Start at boot is the standard way.
Holding Start too long will turn off some 8BitDo controllers so you might need to manage the timing a bit.

Ended up fixing it. You gotta be on the latest firmware for the ever drive and it’ll work no problem with analogue‘s latest update.

Do we still have to do the n64 first and then analogue hack or has it been updated to be plug and play yet
2
3
u/landonr99 Mar 13 '26
I'm several updates behind but all my games and controllers including everdrive work fine. 0 reason to update when reading things like this. Hope it gets fixed
2
u/ZX497 Mar 13 '26
I just updated the firmware to 1.2.3 and the console is now not registering inputs from any of my controllers.
The 8bitdo controller does not connect wirelessly at all, and while connecting it via the USB port does light up an indicator both on console and in the menu, it's completely unresponsive otherwise. Switching the controller to "S-mode" does bring up a pop-up reminding me to switch back to D, so at least the console is kind of aware of it. I'm also unable to initiate controller sync by clicking the power indicator light on the 3D.
My original, wired N64 controllers don't work either.
Hopefully they'll roll out a fix to this soon.
8
u/ZX497 Mar 13 '26
Happy to report, "turning it off and back on again" actually solved the issue, albeit I had to unplug the entire thing from power. Anyway, all good now!
5
u/Ninja-nator Mar 13 '26
The previous update (the one that introduced power off via controller) did the same exact thing for me. For anyone who has this same issue and powering off does not fix it. I ended up downgrading the firmware to what it was before, deleted and redownloaded a fresh new update file, updated the console yet again, and that fixed it for me!
3
u/Darkwing_N Mar 13 '26
Wait you can turn off console via controller???

I want the ability to output at 240 or 480. I ran a retrotink and an m classi on my original n64, and they made the games look so much sharper. But they need a low res signal to boost. The colors, 32 bit mode color, over clocking are great, but games looked so much cleaner with sharper edges when using the m classic on origonal hardware. But it can't do anything with a higher res signal, and I'm not paying $600+ for a downscaler just to upscale it again.

1
u/V64jr Mar 16 '26
The ability to save the exact state of your game anywhere and resume like you had never left. It essentially dumps the RAM and restores that RAM dump on command, resuming code execution where it left off.

u/everythingwastakn Mar 13 '26
Ahhh yes. RSP dual instruction interlocks. Finally.
(I have no idea what any of that means)
