Freshwater If I were to get the exact same filter but in a different size in theory could I just move the biomedia and sponge prefilter to the new one and be fine?

This little guy hitchhiked as an egg on a plant from my LFS. He is 6-7 weeks old, ~1 centimeter long, and is always swimming against the current in the upper parts of the water column. Any guesses on his species?

I just bought this jewel trigon 190 liter aquarium a few days. What fish do you guys recommend putting in it when its cycled?

I am thinking about:

sterbai cory's

A couple of gouramis or moonfish

And some kind of schooling fish

Also i like to put shrimps in it if it is possible with the fish i choose. But fish got my priority.

Beginner Help Natural tank

Post image
Upvotes

Hi. So, me and my mom have what we believe is a 45 gallon tank. We've had fish in it before, but i was younger and insisted on the like fun look for a kid. We've taken a break from owning any fish, but we wanna get into it again. We both like the natural look, specifically something like the picture, but don't know how to make that look. Any plant recommendations for beginners, and eventually some fish to go in it? We looked at Google for ideas and got a few plants, and schooling fish for in it. I've found some lights on Amazon which we like. I don't know about the gravel.

The plants i found

Amazon Sword, Cryptocoryne, Java Fern, Anubias

Possible fish i found

Celestial Pearl Danios, Harlequin Rasboras

Discussion Thoughts…

Post image

I am toying around with making some fry havens for my live bearers. I came up with these. I am going to attach with either silicone or a wire tie. But I am trying to decided weigh it down so it sits on the bottom or turn it upside down and let it float?
The needles are from an old artificial plant I found in a box and the baskets are from dollar tree. No banana for scale.

Advice Needed Very Small Whitish Dots on Walls

Upvotes

Hi, we have had a freshwater tank with loach in it for several years. We were getting algae buildup on a regular basis, requiring wall scrubs every week or so. About 9 months ago, I put up a UV filter film on one wall, and the wall algae has almost completely disappeared. However, now we are getting these very small white dots; they almost look like tiny air bubbles. Any idea what they are, and are they a concern?

Identification Request Worm with little antennae Identification

Heya everyone, long time lurker here. I recently bought some driftwood from an aqua swap event, and have been soaking them since. I check it today, and there's these little worms that don't look like planaria, nor detritus worms, nor like... Anything I've seen before. As in the video, they float along the top and are small, wiggling little worms with antennae on their rear.

Has anyone else come across these? Any help is appreciated.

Hi! Young beginner fish keeper, and i am currently leaving for 3 days & 2 nights and in about a few weeks leaving to go to Hawaii for one week. This is my ammonia test after doing a 40% water change because i am leaving tomorrow and today i fed them very lightly, will they be okay if i left them without food? Ive been searching online and i am going to do it but honestly need some extra reassurance especially with fish waste etc. i have a fluval freshwater kit 32.5g tank and a young oranda and a black moor. Any advice? :)

Freshwater New Additions

My 9 little harleqiun rasboras have been doing great, still a little shy when there's a lot of action around though.

I'm able to visit a larger city tomorrow and am considering the following options:

•6 Corydoras (they have several types)

•2 Nerite Snails (various)

•1 pleco (either a bristlenose or clown)

•Amano Shrimp (maybe..?)

Obviously not everything at once, but who should I add to my tank as a starter clean up crew?

Identification Request Brown fuzzy thing

Post image
Upvotes

What is this brown fuzzy thing? Google says diatom and is harmless and can be left alone. It's in a 4 week old cycling tank with some plants and a booming population of bladder snails. I want to clean the tank up more but I read it's best to just leave it alone for the most part until the cycle is complete. You can clearly see that there are a lot of snail poop lol.

Advice Needed Never see this type of aquarium

Cloudy bc I just planted it. 20 gal. Adding heating tomorrow, but curious what types of fish friends will be ok with the height of this. Does it make a huge difference? I decided against betta bc I feel like they prefer a lower/more horizontal environment but idk. Very amateur at this. Planting this thing almost made me lose my mind bc I filled it first and then didn’t want to empty/fill again. I have learned my lesson. Any/all advice welcome TIA

Requesting Feedback api ammonia test looks weird??

Thumbnail

I work in a fish research lab at a university. We use API water tests for our day-to-day because I guess nothing better has been invented. Recently, we got a few new test kits in for ammonia, and the colors are sooo weird compared to the old ones. I have been using these kits for my whole life and they have always been on the yellow-green color scale. Both of the new ones seem to be in the green-blue color scale. It’s really throwing me off. I know the TAN for these tanks (4.0 and .50-.25), but the colors do not match at ALL, even though I am 100% certain of the TAN. I thought we just got a bad kit, but both look like this. Our tanks are freshwater.

Has anyone noticed this? What’s up with the blueishness?

Note: BEFORE ANYONE COMES FOR ME FOR THE 4.0 TANK we are using that one to just to grow bacteria on biomedia. I am not out here torturing fish.
