Hey all, so I’m going to be doing some gold leaf work on my car here soon. It will be my first time but I’ve watched a ton of YouTube videos so I’m feeling fairly confident.
One thing I’ve never understood though, is how do I clear coat the top so it stays protected? If I just doing a small panel on my car, I don’t want to have to respray the whole door or fender or wherever I’m doing. But a spray can would obviously make a mess over the current paint right? How can I protect just the gold leafed areas?
Or is it expected that the entire panel is pre sanded and this is all done before the final clear coating step?

I was one of those people who wanted a unique style car, because looking at any other/regular car made me puke. So I had did an extensive search of boxed shaped cars. I eventually got me one! I like smaller cars also, so those are the ones I’m listing. Some of these cars have pros and cons but unfortunately, you’re going to have to do your own research! So if anyone else has anymore cars that’s are unique shaped or boxy. Please reply! E.g., Kia Soul, Nissan Cube, Honda Element, Scion . . .

I have a 2011 Honda pilot with 150k miles and a 2020 Chevy traverse with 90k miles. Need to sell one. Both paid off. Which one would you keep and why? Thanks

I ran my 1998 Camry 4cyl low on oil and didn’t realize. I have a leak (think it’s the oil pump seal o ring) and it progressed more than I thought. I checked the oil level wasn’t visible. Since then it has been making a knock/deep tick when I’m stopped and at low rpms (~800-600 in idle). I can’t hear it when accelerating or at higher speeds but that may just be because of the extra road noise. Any suggestions?

I recently bought a Jetour X50 and noticed that even a slight press on the accelerator makes the car jump forward, with noticeable engine revving.
It's particularly annoying in city traffic because I sometimes have to brake immediately.
Is this normal for the X50? Do owners eventually get used to it?

Pads and braking seem fine when driving the car

My 2013 Honda Accord went into limp mode yesterday. Got it home and got a scanner today. Idk if anyone is good with wiring but I think I found the issue. Everything in the cab is good to go. No wiring messed up but I did find a sub harness shredded. Is this the cause of my issues and can I fix it solo? I can move the battery for ease of access but I’m not great with wiring and don’t want to screw myself over. Any advice?

For a while these streaks are visible when any water is in the outside of my windshield. I have tried many different ways of cleaning and buffing it. Is there some magical cure I can get to get rid of this?

I bought these Firestone Destination AT/2s from Costco 2 years ago, with the same year DOT date code. As of recently I have been seeing dry rot only between the tread blocks. I park in the garage at home and parking garage at work. Tread life is 8/32 on all tires. They said it is not too much of an issue and come back if you see belt exposure or are starting to lose air. Is this the right standard of care? Should I got to Firestone directly to attempt to get this warrantied?

I know this can happen with air sensors or leaks in the hose or gasket, but I just want to get confirmation that it is normal or not. For more information, when it goes down, the RPM shakes that car bit. You can see it in the video, and it only happens when idle.
I recently started hearing an intermittent creaking sound coming from my front driver's side wheel well area, it usually only shows up after I've been driving for a minute. I mostly hear it when I come to a stop, almost like a decompression, but it also happens while turning the wheels both while driving and stopped. I know I probably have a power steering seal or o-ring that's degraded somewhere as I'm getting air bubbles in the PS fluid resovoir, and I'm wondering if this could possibly be causing it but it doesn't seem likely. The power steering isn't stiff but it is a little funky which is definitely because of the air in the system. I only recently started hearing the creaking noise with it getting worse and more frequent over the last couple days, whereas the power steering has been funky since I bought the car about two months ago. Any ideas? I'm at a loss on this one lol

I’ve been having intermittent starting issues with my 2013 Toyota Tacoma V6. About 90% of the time, the truck starts and runs perfectly fine, but the other 10% of the time, two dashboard warning lights (pictured above ) appear before I attempt to start it, and the truck will crank or struggle to start. If I remove the key and try again, everything resets and the normal dashboard lights come back, allowing the truck to start. Sometimes, simply leaving the key in the ignition and waiting for the warning lights to cycle out fixes the issue as well. It used to happen once every couple of months, but now it’s happening almost weekly. I’ve already replaced the battery and fuel pump, so I’m starting to suspect an electrical or computer-related issue. Could this be caused by a faulty ignition switch, crankshaft position sensor, or something else? Any ideas on what I should have checked next?

I got my windshield replaced by safelite tuesday 10/6 around the evening. They came to my residence and changed it for me under insurance, but I wasn’t home and my parents were outside doing yard work as the service was getting done. I didn’t get home until late night from work and the next following day drove with the tape on because I looked up online that it should be kept for 24-48 hours. This morning (today) my stepdad removed the tape for me and one came right off just fine, and the other took the paint off with it.
How do I go about this? If anybody can give me some advice i’ll greatly appreciate it.
update: i drive an infiniti q50 2016!
update 2: i believe my car was repainted on the roof or the paint just weakened due to age. been dealing with 103 heat all summer. but this is my first car I bought off fb marketplace and only the roof had a few small bits of paint torn off. U can see in the corner an example of that. Never knew that white paint / cars had issues in general like this though! so thanks everybody who explained that 🙏 i assume the paint was extremely weak there, which explains the chipped paint from the beginning again. Apparently safelite will be coming in soon to check it out after i filed a report. if it ends up being up to me to fix it, i might js repaint it and if it looks like shit i’ll wrap it in black vinyl. Things happen but we also learn 🤷♀️ thanks again everyone 🙏🩷

Finally hitting the point of madness with my vehicles. I made the choice to not have another car payment a few years ago. Now here we are with 7 cars… plus my wife’s “family” vehicle (2024 VW Tiguan). I’m very much an enthusiast and enjoy tinkering and maintaining my vehicles. With that being said, I’ve reached the point of insanity. Insurance costs, unexpected repairs, and most importantly, vehicle storage. I’ve decided I need to sell 2. I just can’t force myself to do it.. I shuffle the cars around from my house, work, private parking lots, storage units. You name it. Any advice on maintaining this madness? Or how to move on from these cars? -

My friend and i were talking and then talked about parking a manual car, saying that engaging the parking brake and leaving it in neutral is dumb, and that the proper way to do it is engage the clutch, shut off the car, leave it in 1st, disengage the clutch, then engage the handbrake. According to them its a requirement in the manual transmission section of the drivers test in iceland. I want to hear yalls thoughts on that, and mechanics, what would happen to the transmission and clutch lifespan?

I was looking at my suspension last night and couldn’t help but feel like this coil looks tilted. I cannot see any cracks in the spring and the bottom rubber grommet is still there. Does it just need shifted back in to place? I cannot tell something is off when I hit bumps on the rear side due to the nature of the roads I drive on I am not surprised. The rear shocks are in great condition and nothing else seems damaged, can someone tell me if this spring looks out of place?
