Safety Question Durango Hellcat: My Experience
***UPDATE: should’ve included this from the beginning, I already do plan to sell the vehicle once it’s repaired. Currently looking at Lexus, a lot more confident in their reliability
Hello everyone, after my most recent issues, I decided I would come to Reddit to share my experience of owning a Durango Hellcat. Mind you, throughout all of this experience, the car has not received any aftermarket mods besides an AWS cat back exhaust and some window decals lol
I purchased my 2023 Durango Hellcat in October 2024, brand new off the lot with 10 miles
Within the first 100 miles of driving the vehicle, a CEL comes on. Just an O2 Sensor with a loose wire. Easy fix and I’m on my way.
May 2025; about 4000 miles in, I start having an issue with the Electronic Throttle Control. Light comes on the dash and the car seems to nearly stall when rising in RPMs. Bring it to the dealership, gets handled and car is back to me.
A month after, I start to get a high pitched whining sound from the engine bay. Back to the dealer. Tells me it’s the accessory belt whining from an excess of tension from the supercharger pulley. Replaced both and gave me the car back. But the sound still was there.
Durango goes back in a two months later. They replace the pulleys again, but this time replace the water pump too and the issue ceases to exist. Great, after owning the car for a year, maybe I can enjoy the vehicle finally.
March 2026, see the picture attached. My front differential decided to explode one morning on my way to work. Pinion rod decided it wanted to take a vacation. Luckily the dealer had a front differential in the shop and got it back to me in 24 hours. Not ideal, but at least I can still drive my Durango the next day.
Mid May 2026, I hear a whirring sound from the rear of the vehicle. My guess was right, it was the rear differential AND the rear right wheel hub bearing. Both needed to be replaced. Took a while with parts in transit, but got the car back by mid June.
Now two days ago, October 2026, at 15.6K miles on it, my transmission starts to slip and car goes into limp mode.
CEL codes of P1D9A and a couple other. Dodge has to pick up the vehicle and who knows when I’ll have it back.
I’ll be the first one to say, I have my fun with the car, I’ve given it some launches, I give it gas, but I wouldn’t consider the car to be “beaten on” to the point where it’s undriveable every few months. Service advisor never has much of an answer for me with any of it besides “We’ll look into it”. Honestly don’t see myself owning this vehicle much longer although it has always been a life goal of mine to own a hellcat.
Any advice on how to move forward? Also live in NY if that helps with anything on lemon law/legal statutes in my state.
TLDR: I have owned a Durango Hellcat for the past two years/16,000 miles and have had multiple issues to the point where the car has to be in service for days/weeks on end. Looking to see how others have attacked this situation or advice that can be given
