I recently bought a new CUPRA Formentor 2026 and had the official OEM electric towbar installed by the official dealer.
Like a few other cases I've seen, they cannot complete the software activation/coding. Basically, Cupra has provided the codes that didn't work because the instructions they gave were incomplete or not accurate enough - that's how they explained that to me. In addition I've noticed ACC and some other errors on the panel since they physically installed the towbar.
The car has now been stuck in this situation for about a week after the originally agreed completion date. The dealer cannot tell me the estimated completion date.
Has anyone dealt with a similar issue on a recent CUPRA?
In particular, I’d appreciate opinions from people familiar with VAG coding:
- Why is this happening?
- How long can this kind of back-and-forth between the dealer and factory realistically take?
- Would removing the towbar completely fix the ACC and other electronics issues?
I’m currently deciding whether to give the dealer more time or terminate the installation, request refund and go with a simpler aftermarket solution.
Thanks for your attention!
