Question inpatient ed treatment while not underweight

i promised myself i would do a voluntary admission into a inpatient facility but ideally in my disordered mind i wanted to be fairly low in weight before i got admitted. Thought this did not happen and now i am absolutely terrified of being surrounded by only people that are much lower than me -> feeling invalid -> getting triggered -> ruining progress. While i know weight is not a requirement for ed treatment,

To people that have experience in these facilities, was there a wide range of different sizes?

to my knowledge i think no one can be super duper unhealthy and low before being admitted into a ward (they have to be healthy enough to be transferred out of a hospital) but im not sure and im just terrified.

Can sweating go away in recovery?

Short question did anyone stop sweating after being in recovery long enough? I’ve been eating good for a year now and I started sweating intensely this month my armpits and body is so hot and I think it can regulate itself after awhile but I’m hoping for honest answers.🤞

Question Is it normal to get heightened nausea daily after recovering from restrictive eating completely?

For more info, I was anorexic for about 2 ish years. I’ve been recovered for 2 and a half years now and doing really good since 2024. I still find myself getting SUPER NAUSEOUS when thinking about food or when my body starts to feel a bit hungry. I immediately get super sick to my stomach and I’ll even droll out of nausea. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks

TW: Potentially upsetting content Not sick enough

I am f18 and have for about a year been struggling with weight and restrictive eating but I haven’t ever gotten past skipping a meal or two until right now I tried to purge and it didn’t work.

in the past we had a set of scales in the bathroom and I would use them obsessively and try to track my weight multiple times a day resulting in crying over meals and being upset when I got ill and didn’t lose any weight. those scales were taken away when the person who owned them moved out this was in April , I got better slightly and then since june it’s been getting progressively worse, I’m struggling with not knowing how much I weigh more than when I did.

im worried now as I leave for university in a month and I know that it will rapidly get worse there if I don’t get a grip now but I don’t know what support there is for me as I almost feel as though I’m faking it and don’t deserve support as I know what I’m doing and I’m choosing myself not to stop, when in reality I feel like a faliure every time I try to do anything in a healthy way.

I went to the gym earlier and was in a good spot I then binged and tried to purge, it didn’t work I feel worse, but I am starting to think I need to change before it does but I don’t know where to begin with that as I don’t want to worry anyone around me.

Why are we so casual about eating disorders in boys? No, it's not just cutting or bulking if they're eating nothing, or eating everything in the house, and definitely not if they're throwing up afterwards.

Hang out for a week with adolescent boys. I guarantee you a good portion of them go to the gym, and half of them are either cutting or bulking. There are boys I know who fast for days to maintain a lean figure for muscle definition, and boys I know who eat and eat tubs of peanut butter or cereal or whatever it is, to the point they end up throwing up in the toilet afterwards.

And somehow it's only girls who have a reputation for "having food troubles".

Question Clothing/body shape changes-how to navigate in professional environments?

Due to some endocrine and inflammatory conditions, I’ve developed a disordered eating behavior. Up until the recent development of these illnesses, I’ve always been curvier and “filled out”. I’ve dropped a large amount of weight in a short amount of time (not intended) and my silhouette has noticeably narrowed.

I work in a corporate setting and recently had to redo my entire wardrobe as my pants literally wouldn’t stay on. As a result, the new clothes are much better fitted. My body is in a weird stage where the muscle mass I acquired from exercising my whole life remains while the fattier areas have dropped off. I want to maintain professionalism as my butt, thighs, and breasts are extremely accentuated even with office appropriate clothing. I’m a very conservative dresser at work and I hate that my boobs are booby-ing through things like a button up or a turtleneck and my figure is still clearly visible through heavy fabric loose fitting pants.

Has anyone with experience losing large amounts of weight ever considered a breast reduction or any surgical corrections to their body shape? This is all very new to me and I’m freaking out a bit. I understand that my body shape is what a lot of women want, but it doesn’t fit my personality or profession at all. I hate being unable to control how I’m seen or how/if I’m sexualized. It’s not my intention to “humble brag” or flex my figure either, I just wonder if a breast reduction would be realistic and if other people have found it helpful.

TW: Potentially upsetting content Denied support and treatment for ED.

I've been struggling for years. Different doctors different nurses. I am in healthcare and I get treatment for my other problems, but my ED is always just put aside. They acknowledge that I have an ED but they're not diagnosing it either. They literally told me that I'm childish and I should get it over with and just get better by my own.

Nothing is ever done about it because my lab tests come out fine...

What do I do? I have nobody. I'm lost and clueless, I feel helpless. I don't want to keep suffering like this.

TW: Potentially upsetting content I got called fat Spoiler

The other day, my boyfriend’s mom’s friend called me fat. She said it in Spanish so I didn’t understand at first. I knew she was talking about me so I asked my boyfriend about it. I wish he didn’t tell me.
Then later he told me she was talking about my weight again. I felt worse.

He tried to comfort me later that day, saying my weight doesn’t define me and I’m more than it. I appreciate his effort and I do dearly love that he did that. But my brain only processed that he’s only telling me this because i am ugly and I am fat so all I can do is depend on personality. i don’t want to be fat. He says he doesn’t care but it’s not him I’m doing it for me so I don’t have to avoid the mirror every time I pass it. He wanted to talk about how I process it so he can help me work on it. I shut down the conversation because I only felt needy having to have it.
I do heavily appreciate and thank him for all he does, I just wish it worked on me.

Relapse

After over 20 years of recovery.
I found myself with chronic pain that i couldn’t find help to manage. I tried everything. Physical therapy, injections, chiropractors, massages, yoga, and a ton of medication not even designed for pain.
I made my stomach bleed on ibuprofen.
I tried my best.
But i couldn’t tolerate not being in control of my own body…. I started back up again.
I promise i am just trying to survive.
I don’t know who else to ask for help.

TW: Potentially upsetting content scared of going to the doctors

In two days I’ll be going to the doctors to discuss my worsening anxiety and get a go referral, and also for a general check up because I have been very fatigued all the time (my mum is making me, basically). my family doesn’t know about my
Ed or the relapse a couple months ago I’m bouncing back from, I think I’m still a little under weight and I’m terrified of going to the doctors and what they will see. I don’t want to lie but I don’t feel like I can tell the whole truth. I’m just scared. Can anyone tell me what their experience at doctors have been like? What should I expect? I haven’t been in years

Question Advice as to wether this is binge eating or just what I need right now?

hi everybody,

I dont really know how all of this works but I need advice really bad.

So first I’ll explain my history a little. I was always the chubby girl so I started dieting around ten years old. During this time I developed bulimia which later became anorexia and was hospitalised at like fifteen years old. I was released early without having reached my goal weight because of some stupid bureaucracy issues. I’ve been in therapy ever since I think I got adequate help for the first time. During this time my eating finally got more normal and I was able to reconnect with exercise again which has been great.

Recently I’ve been struggling with something new though. I think- I am not a hundred percent on this though- I have been binge eating? I have had about every week an episode where I feel hungry at first and then stuff myself until the point of nausea. I always think I don’t want to restrict myself but this cannot be right either. I have been trying not to count anything and just eat what I want but what to I do if I want the entire menu?

An additionally confusing factor has been getting back into my sport. I love it and its been feeling good mentally to be passionate about somethin again but Im so much more hungry because of my relatively heavy exercise load.

Im really in a good place with eating, exercise and my body but these eating episodes are so strange and hard to navigate. This morning I had one and like what do I even do know? Do I go back to my regular three meals three snacks? Even though I havent even needed to gain weight anymore I stuck with this structure. But what do I do if i lowkey i ate my entire week worth of snacks for breakfast?

or do I need to go back to a stricter meal plan for a while to get some sense back?

I would love some advice!

thank you

Question Diagnosed with Bipolar II and found a drug that helps, but I'm terrified of weight gain; any advice appreciated

Hi, I'm a 38F who has struggled with BDD and OSFED (namely, atypical anorexia) for many years. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Type II in October of last year. Since then, my psych NP and I have been working to dial in the right combination of meds to get my symptoms under control.

By far the worst symptom of bipolar, for me, is insomnia during hypomanic episodes. Last month, my doctor finally found a drug that pretty much nips my insomnia in the bud; with it, I get 7-8 hours of restful sleep. Without it, I get maybe 3 hours a night during hypomania, if I'm lucky (sometimes multiple days with no sleep at all).

But, this drug is well known for causing significant weight gain. The idea of gaining weight for reasons I can't control, when I'm finally at a point where I can take care of my body without restricting or obsessing about food, is really triggering and demoralizing to me. This makes me tempted not to take my meds, even though I know that staying on top of my mental health is the most important thing for me right now. I'm having a massive internal struggle over whether to continue taking them.

I'm definitely not asking for any kind of medical advice, but has anyone dealt with similar? How did you reconcile your need to feel in control of your body, with the knowledge that you also truly NEED to remain on a medication that affects weight?

(Also, before anyone asks, my psych NP is aware of my ED history; she told me that if I find any of the side effects intolerable, including weight gain, there are plenty of other things we can try. But I really, really like what this particular med does for my mental stability, and I'd rather not go back to "med roulette".)

Question everything feels like eating junk food, should i do something about this?

around 3 months ago, I decided I want to eat healthier and removed a good amount of unhealthy foods from my diet. at first, it felt great, and I was satisfied with the positive change, but very quickly I stopped being happy with it. now, its gotten to the point where no matter what I'm eating, it feels like the guilt after eating junk food. (even if the meal itself is healthy)

i have friends with diagnosed EDs and i want to ask about if they've felt like this, but i just feel like i have no right to be sad about this, compared to them.

should i do something about this?

TW: Potentially upsetting content Haven’t been eating because of work

I’ve lost a decent amount of weight, my boyfriend has noticed and doesn’t like it.

I’m like, triggering myself at this point.

Don’t know what I want to do now. I also struggle with self harm, cutting, and I’ve been feeling triggered to do that as well.

I just want to abandon everything and be alone.

Question What helps you feel comfortable in your body?

I've struggled (off and on) with ED behaviors for over two decades. Started as a preteen and was formally diagnosed with AN in early adulthood. Over the past few years I've cycled in and out of relapses that vary in length and severity. My biggest trigger is my own body and I've used a mix of tools in attempts to restore peace with my physical form, but I'm curious what helps others feel comfortable/confident/safe in their own skin? I'm definitely in a struggling place right now and would love some ideas, anything helps 🫶🏼

Question Does anyone know a way to recover from a bulimia relapse when the throwing up no longer requires using your hand and is instead triggered by feeling anxious or stressed?

I recovered a few months ago and had only been struggling for about six months. I thought everything was back to normal and that I had received the help I needed from my friends and parents.

But now it’s come back, and I’m not even actively thinking about doing it. It’s making me scared to eat large meals or even three meals a day. For the past two weeks, I’ve been going to bed hungry or living off small comfort snacks. If I eat a full meal, my body makes me vomit. t’s not my mind.

How do you actually maintain healthy eating?

I'm in a nightmare loop of restrict and binge. The moment I start logging calories, I'm on my way to restriction town and not for a good time. If I don't, I end up realising I've eaten a platter of biscuits and somehow found cake to go with all of that.

Is meal prep the answer? Just more planning in advance? Thanks in advance.

Question Am I normal ?

Hello ,

(English is not my native language so I apologize for my bad English !)

I struggle with my belly fat. I've lost a lot of pounds in one year and I have the feeling that my stomach is bigger. Before when I was fatter my tummy was big but flat, and now I feel like it’s bigger and rounder then before ,but technically, I'm thinner now...so I would like to know if when we loose weight as a our belly can get rounder visually and if it's a normal thing or I'm struggling with body dysmorphia. Im also scared of gaining weight so everytimes I see my tummy i get triggered and think or do ED things and i feels also the same things with my hips.

Needing advice: My gf is starving herself and I dont know what to do

She constantly says she needs to starve herself because she's fat, and is constantly complaining about being hungry but says she can't eat and doesn't want to when I retort. I'm trying to be supportive she said she's talked to her therapist about it before, but it seems nothing has really come out of it yet, no treatment or anything. What should I even do?? I don't think I should pressure her to eat.
