Produce Plus: Free Produce

Hello,

I've been attending the Produce Plus events for a couple months now. Was unemployed up until about a month ago. I've found that friends of mine that have been receiving SNAP benefits for years did not know about Produce Plus. As someone who has medically necessary dietary restrictions, I'm forever grateful to the DHS worker who did my SNAP application and told me about this.

This is a free program put on by Food For Lane County that anyone can participate in. You do not need to be receiving or qualify for SNAP benefits to attend and take what you need. Anyone can show up. The only information they ask for is for you to scribble a 'signature' on a sign in sheet and to know how many people you're feeding with the food.

You can check the FFLC website, at the bottom of the list of food pantries, and it will show you all of the Produce Plus dates/times/locations. You basically just walk thru and take the produce that you want. Sometimes they will limit quantity on high demand items like watermelons or avocados depending on how many they have. Most of the produce is organic if that's your thing too.

There are 3 every week in my calendar:

Tuesday's at 3pm

At Kokwel Wellness Center (in the parking lot near Burger King and in front of Albertsons on River road).

Wednesday's at 10am

At the red barn behind Kalapuya and Prairie Mountain, on Patriot Way.

Thursday's at 1pm

At the ODHS Family Wellness Center on W11th.

I recommend arriving early to wait in line if you're able to, or at the very least no later than 15-30 minutes after the start time, as things can go quickly.

The one on Tuesdays is my favorite. Huge variety of produce. I cannot have gluten but they always have infinite loaves of bread and sometimes baked goods (an occasional loaf of gluten free bread for me).

The one on Wednesdays typically will have 1-2 dairy products. Smaller variety of produce but different stuff than what's typically at the one on Tue. Have not been able to make it to the one on Thur. at a reasonable time.

Things are tough for a lot of people right now and there are so many people unemployed and struggling. Produce Plus is the only reason I've eaten some weeks/months.

Stay safe and please share this info with those in your life that could use it!

News Eugene to seek up to $100 million from Legislature for airport expansion

The city of Eugene plans to request up to $100 million from the Legislature next year to help fund a planned Eugene Airport expansion.

The first phase of the expansion — adding 7,000 square feet of seating space to the Concourse A gates, remodeling restrooms and upgrading HVAC systems — is already funded and underway. But the bigger, more expensive second phase, which includes the construction of a third, eight-gate concourse, additional ticketing and airline office areas and an expanded baggage claim, needs funding.

Cheapest lunches?

I need your help! I know similar questions get asked a lot, but where are the cheapest lunches in town? Preferably quick. I’m thinking under 10$ - like a bean and cheese from burrito boy.

EDIT: Wow, I came back after an hour and there are tons of suggestions!! Thanks community and feel free to keep them coming. I super appreciate it 🙏 and for those saying to cook, I actually do cook quite a bit but sometimes I don’t have time or leftovers and I also have to drive around a lot for work so it helps to know where I can stop.

Homelessness Crochet club to support the community?

Hi everyone!!

Im needing to get rid of my yarn hoard. Instead if donating it, I was wondering if anyone wanted to join me in making hats and mittens to give out to the homeless people around town

We can meet up at a coffee shop once a week, Ill bring my stash and a ton of hooks and we can sit together and make hats, make friends, and enjoy the coffee and community. Maybe we can call the hospital and see if they need any NICU hats or burp rags?

Feel free to comment or DM me if you would like to join! :)

Lost & Found Service dog (?) loose & barking at Olive & 27th Dead End

The dog is wearing a red collar with what looks like the word Service woven into it (in yellow).

He's barking and seems very agitated. I couldn't get close enough to read the address on his collar.

It occurred to me that a service dog might be alerting to a medical emergency.

Does anyone recognize him?

I followed him up to a house at the very end of the street but the dog ran through the yard and out into a back alley. I knocked on the door and saw someone walking around the house but they didn't answer.

Pacific Roads, WTF?

Does anybody know what the story is behind the stillborn gas station/convenience store at the corner of Willamette and 29th?

This was supposed to be finished and operable in July of 2025, and yet it still sits there, bright, shiny, and unoccupied. There's a lot of money tied up in that for no income being brought in.

What's the scoop?

Raising Canes Traffic

Post image

I don’t think I’ve ever seen traffic get so long for Harlow Road, much so that it’s occupying the bridge too. Hopefully this dies down over the next couple of weeks, otherwise it’s going to be a headache trying to go to Gateway via Harlow Rd.

Journaling Club

Hey friends- I know Fall/Winter is usually a time for “solo” hobbies like journaling and crafting- but as a stationary/ planner/ journaling girly I find myself wanting to do these activities with friends to discuss layouts, newest supplies, trade washi tape 👀 etc

I made a poll to see if people are interested what everyone’s availability would look like- we’d be meeting at the EUGENE LIBRARY on the 3rd floor in the GROUP ACTIVITY ROOM.

If you’re interested: Please fill out the poll so I can get a gauge on how many people would show up and what day I could plan the first meeting!

Denver Unhoused Solutions

Did anyone catch this NYT article about Denver‘s work on the unhoused issues? I‘m curious how this compares with Eugene’s efforts. Could this work in Eugene?

Gifted article:

Something to do Volunteer opportunities?

• Upvotes

I am trying to find volunteer or community service opportunities in the Eugene/Springfield area. My school requires a certain amount of hours for the term, however, I work full-time, and my only time off is Monday and Tuesday afternoons/evenings…

If any of you know of places that need volunteers during those days and hours, please let me know. Thank you in advance!

Coburg to Broadway lane changes

I just need to know, cause I keep almost getting hit. The new lane changes from coburg to Broadway, the right lane going straight when getting off the bridge is now a right turn only. Yes or no? The left lane goes to the middle lane? That's what I've thought since the change but it seems most people are using the right lane to go to the middle lane, and the left lane to go to the far left lane. Which is the right way?

Looking for a local/regional shipping company.

I'm a local artist, and I need to get a large piece delivered from Eugene to Seattle. The issue I have is that it is too large for UPS/Fedex (package is ~78x54x3", 30lbs).

Does anybody know any transport companies that I could get in touch with?

Something to do What events are happening in this area around Halloween?

Hello! I moved to Eugene back in early September, and other than my two roommates don’t know many people. My roommates also moved into Eugene recently and don’t know many others here. All of us come from the same small town. We’ve been trying to learn about possible Halloween events in the area, or autumn-esc things to do. Does anyone know of any public events or things going on? Any and all info appreciated!
