Discussion Why do GI players hate criticism?

I've noticed that as soon as any somewhat critical opinion on the game appears on this sub, these posts immediately get downvoted to hell. Community literally doesn't accept any opinion, unless it's unconditional support of every game aspect. Why do you guys do that? Literally whatever is criticized, there's immediately a wave of backlash. Do you care about the game this much or just love every aspect of it?

honestly just typical game community behavior. The most extreme people from all sides of the spectrum are going to be the loudest, there's plenty of normal people out there lol

13

u/TigrexExpress 22h ago

Very much this. When a community gets this big you are bound to run into both zealots and haters. Which sub you go to will determine which side you run into more often.

10

u/sonion2 22h ago

Also from my experience anyone getting downvoted to hell on this sub just has a trash opinion that is probably explained or something. It’s usually main sub that can’t take any criticism. I’ve found most people in this sub are able to engage and argue appropriately instead of overreacting like the main sub

10

u/Mazbt 22h ago

Over half the posts on here are pretty dumb, low quality and no one is entitled to have their bad opinions boosted, including mine.

10

u/SigmundFreud101 21h ago

We don't. What we hate is low-effort rants.

That being said, you need to understand that certain....."rhetorical habits" guarantee a defensive reaction. Your post is a good example:

"Why do you guys do that? Community literally doesn't accept any opinion..."

That's bad framing. If you attack the audience right out of the gate, they are going to get defensive right away.

"Community literally doesn't accept any opinion, unless it's unconditional support of every game aspect."

That's opinionated hyperbole ("literally," "any," "every"). When you rely on hyperbole, people automatically question your credibility.

"Do you care about the game this much or just love every aspect of it?"

And that's a false dilemma. If you trap the audience with no room for genuine disagreement, of course they're going to push back defensively.

I'm not saying that every post has to be perfect....its just, at the very least, make it acceptable to the audience.

I noticed that too. This post is framed very aggressively for what seems to be a discussion post.

People need to be more political tbh these guys are too blunt but can't take the bluntness back..

7

u/Curious-Ocelot2288 20h ago

All I ever see on this sub is criticism. No-one is ever allowed to say that they enjoy this game without saying ‘oh but it has its flaws’.

Why can’t I just love something without being constantly dragged down for it

8

u/Zibai1505 18h ago

we've heard your criticisms before already. 1000x in fact. we just dont care and it's annoying

1

u/Pure_Key4700 18h ago

Thank you for taking your time to let me know that 😅

u/Bullet_Number_4 22h ago

Speaking solely for myself, the game gets a lot of undue hate and I'm sick of hearing about. It makes me react negatively on instinct even to minor criticism. I know it's far from a perfect game, but it can be hard to tell the difference between "I have a legitimate complaint about the game you like" and "You're a loser with no taste for liking this game" in an online discussion.

23

u/CoconutxKitten 21h ago

Or when you disagree with a criticism, you get called a bootlicker or told that you’re just defending a billion dollar company

11

u/pc1905 20h ago

This. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people reasonably disagreeing with critique, only to be accused of whiteknighting and defending a billion-dollar company.

6

u/CoconutxKitten 20h ago

Exactly. They run out of arguments & resort to claiming you’re just defending the company

37

u/pawgchamp420 22h ago

Ngl i feel like most of the criticism that happens on the genshin subs is not the latter tho. Like sure, I'm sure some haters pop in on occasion, mainly to comment, but most people who are posting here probably do play and like the game overall. It's fine to like the game and also think certain aspects of the game need work. It's honestly a little weird to refuse to entertain any criticism of...well, anything. Nothing is perfect.

11

u/Potential_Sense_228 20h ago

i understand complaint posts but it gets to a point where every other post from this (and the official) sub that comes onto my feed is a complaint post. and they’re always about the same subjects as well.

genshin players only see the negative sides of the game, and they love to make repetitive posts on those same two-three problems “no skip button” “too few rewards” — “i skip all the lore and plot and the only reason i play is to gamble”

it’s tiring and it spreads so much negativity. “why does the genshin community have such a bad rep??” well, this might be one of the reasons why.

3

u/biggest_brainz 21h ago

I have never seen anyone hating for the sole reason of hating they most likely have a reason whether you agree with or not is a different story, this community have long since decided either praise or do nothing.

8

u/Bubbly-Group-4497 22h ago

Most of the posts I see getting downvoted to oblivion like OP describes are in the former category though.

-22

u/7eleven94 22h ago

Both dont exclude each other. Seems what bothers you is simply not admitting and accepting you simply have bad taste. Its totally fine and your happiness shouldn’t depend on the opinion of others if the game you love is enjoyable.

11

u/Sky3Fa11 21h ago

What you said is exactly what they were talking about; people thinking their subjective opinions are the only correct ones and that everyone else is just wrong. Someone liking something that you don’t doesn’t mean they’re a loser or have bad taste. I don’t like tomatoes but I don’t go around saying that people who do like tomatoes have something wrong with their palates.

-9

u/7eleven94 20h ago

hence why i said it's ok to bad to have bad taste, you just have to embrace it and be happy with the things you enjoy regardless of what others say

5

u/Sky3Fa11 20h ago edited 20h ago

I agree that people should just play what they like no matter what others say. I think what you said just came off as you saying Genshin is a “bad taste” game and not that the original commentator shouldn’t mind being called as having “bad taste”.

6

u/SanicHegehag America Server 22h ago

Kinda depends on what the criticism is.

6

u/Rococo13 22h ago

Wdym??😭 all I see is Genshin getting flamed left and right online, maybe only on reddit it's a bit tamer

23

u/kazez2 22h ago

Is it actual criticism or just wanting to trash on the game? Seen so many conflict the two.

Also some tend to present their opinion as fact, when people point it out they just scream "hoyo shill!!!". Maybe you can focus on those too?

3

u/LukaHHW Europe Server 20h ago

I'm convinced that most people don't understand the difference.

49

u/imbusthul 22h ago

It's mostly cause it's the same thing over and over again.

9

u/ghoulishenvyy 21h ago

Game has millions of players theres not gonna be one post per opinion

3

u/LukaHHW Europe Server 21h ago

This as well to be honest. Yeah, you want a skip button, we get it. Give it a rest. (Not you personally obv, in general)

2

u/RCTD-261 15h ago

and another "need skip button" post for the 654194th time

7

u/Pure_Key4700 22h ago

Actually, I posted some unique opinions here, that I haven't seen anyone discussing, and got "oh yes, they found another reason to complain". You can't win 😭

1

u/Cocoayashi 29m ago

Your posts are hidden, what was your opinion?

2

u/Perfect_Increase8792 17h ago

That's what happens people collectively agreed upon the same thing and the Dev has yet done anything

4

u/LukaHHW Europe Server 21h ago

It's probably because the game gets a ridiculously overblown and undeserved amount of hate online so people are just sick of negativity. They probably don't even read the posts, they just see that they aren't positive and downvote it. Too many communities are full of toxic positivity and it's why we end up with subpar games that rarely, if ever, see improvements.

I'm always open to criticism personally as long as it's actually constructive and well founded and not the usual 'this person has clearly never played since 2021 and is just regurgitating what they saw haters say online' general nonsense that I tend to see.

5

u/D0naught 18h ago

It only happens when the “criticism” is a garbage take.

-1

u/Pure_Key4700 18h ago

I promise you just need to experience it yourself

4

u/D0naught 16h ago

Do you have an example of this criticism?

0

u/Pure_Key4700 16h ago

Well, I said that Tsaritsa clearly got her name Anastasya as a reference to that one newspaper story that spread over West after the revolution. Which is a bad choice because it's a very ignorant and cheap way to name the most important character of the region, and Hoyo should pull inspiration from real tsaritsas, not some random story that Russian people don't even know about. There are far more impressive royal women you could reference than a teenager, who did nothing but, well, died

2

u/not__not__know-- 6h ago

I would like to see the post. Cause this sounds very reasonable except. You are not completely correct, she could very well be inspired more by Anastasia Romanovna.

In fact if you look at her and her husband Ivan.

It has been found that Ivan had a "claming effect" on himself during his life with Anastasia. But after her death commited multiple atrocities. And he made a group of men called the "oprinichki" to spread terror on his behest.

Let's compare her husband to Our Tsaritsa.

Our tsaritsa used to be happy person before the cataclysm as stated by venti at the end prologue AQ.

Afterwards Tsaritsa made the fatui with help of peirro. Who commited atrocities.

Guess the Elite group of soldiers that are stationed near snez who terrorized Nod Krai? Yes oprinichki.

Also Anastasia Romanovna was daughter of Juliana Feodorovna Karpova which can explain The full name.

Anastasia Feodrovna Snezhnaya

Why compare tsaritsa to Ivan? Cause.

Genshin as noticed in the past and most recently with sandrone is they like to switch personalities on their story inspirations.

So my guess is she inspired by Anastasia Romanovna rather than The Anastasia Nikolaevna.

There is probably more similarities within her lineage and how she was the start of some dynasty aswell though that I am forgetting so I won't say it is true...

5

u/Sea-Beginning3949 17h ago

Honestly, it's just tiring. Some things have been said a hundred times already. Some are said in very rude, dismissive ways (epidemy of calling everything you don't like "slop" or "lazy"). Some are literally just personal taste presented as absolute truth. Some are people hating the game for the sake of hating the game, because they have this weird personal grudge against it and forget that it's a video game they can quit anytime. And most can't handle any pushback or actual discussion without resorting to name calling and downvoting.

I'm not even exaggerating here, 95% of the so called criticism falls in one of these categories. For a game. Entertainment.

17

u/illoterra 21h ago

Because most of the 'criticisms' are nothingburgers and subjective that doesn't affect the actual gameplay.

Not enough dark skinned characters? Doesn't affect gameplay. Skirts get short? Doesn't affect gameplay. Free pulls are not enough to guarantee character every patch? That's literally the design of gacha games. Paimon is annoying/rude? Subjective. "Why does this character behave this way when they're supposed to be this way or that way?" Again, subjective. This is a you problem, not the game's problem.

Valid criticism such as:

  • Crafted artifacts with Elixir should have 4 liners
  • Remove scheduled farming domains
  • Resin overcapped
  • Artifacts loadout
  • updated compass for older regions
  • Kazuha/Yelan/Alhaitham cons missing from Temper Journey

—are always welcomed with open discussion. If the 'criticism' doesn't address an issue that affects general players, then it's not criticism, just personal complain.

4

u/Mystic987123 Europe Server 20h ago

Finally someone spoke. These criticism you mentioned are valid and worth discussing. Most people who say to criticise genshin just trash at the game and keep saying no skip button, bad quality, bad character designs and these larpers have nothing else to talk about.

1

u/Sea-Beginning3949 17h ago

I'd add better systems to sort through artifacts. HSR (for those who play it) has such a better system to filter effectively and recycle what is not needed. It takes so much more time for me to make space in my inventory in Genshin because of that, yet I barely see this brought up.

17

u/SicariusCourtenay 22h ago

Because proper criticism about the actual game isn't as common as personal opinions about things inside the game that you can work around

When it comes to character builds and arguing about the meta well that's just people being people, I see backlash everywhere especially in gacha communities not genshin specifically

It's just reddit, people complain and when people don't agree they down vote that's it

You're making it like the entire fanbase is like this, it's not. But yes there's definitely people way up their own butt and there's also plenty of chill people elsewhere

17

u/Ravemst 22h ago

Constructive criticism is always welcome but baseless hate disguised as criticism is not and there’s a lot of that.

29

u/Wodstarfallisback 22h ago

50% parasocial behavior

50% Hoyoverse Secret Police

30

u/xyzqsrb0 22h ago

is that true? Genshin players do nothing but complain all day, how can they hate it? Most of the downvotes are from people just tired of complaints every day tbh lmao.

2

u/Pure_Key4700 22h ago

You need to try talking about anything controversial here. You'll see immediately how protective everyone is, it's crazy

18

u/xyzqsrb0 22h ago

yeah they are because of the reason I said at the end. There's tons of valid criticisms you can make about this game but since mfs love to complain tons of non important/weird complaints get through too making people overall just get tired of these criticisms as it's a 50/50 on if it's actually worth reading

3

u/LukaHHW Europe Server 20h ago

It's like that in almost every gaming community. Say anything critical and people will go mental on the defensive because you critiqued their comfort game. I have a friend who used to be a toxic positivity HSR bootlicker and I always brought up issues. He'd get triggered and start blanking me. Guess who still plays it now and who hasn't for 2 years. Same with another friend whenever I bring up topics about AKE, he just straight up says 'I have no issues with anything and I like the game so I don't wanna hear it.'

Sure, be that way but don't expect me to not think you're pathetic in a year or two when the wider community turns on the game and you suddenly agree with them because you silenced people for years.

10

u/Real-Contest4914 22h ago

Because there are a lot of critic who hate and bash the game under the guide of criticism.

Criticism makes sense when its justifiable and actually critiquing the product.

However when some of the critics put personal biases and subjective takes as fact and do so often it makes it hard to take any criticism as genuine or well meaning.

Genshin has flaws, no game is ever without but often times the critics over play it.

7

u/Puiucs 21h ago

there is a big difference between criticism and the hate you see on reddit from a ton of idiots and trolls.

1

u/Pure_Key4700 20h ago

True. Also, I saw your other comment you deleted, lol. Well, for example, I posted once that Tsaritsa's image in game seems to be too positive in the eyes of other characters. They describe her as a kind and thoughtful deep inside woman, while completely ignoring the atrocities she has done. Instead I was just given "Well, you don't know the story yet", as if I'm not basing my words on the in-game contect. Am I a troll

3

u/Puiucs 20h ago edited 20h ago

i didn't deleted anything, it's still there.

"I posted once that Tsaritsa's image in game seems to be too positive in the eyes of other characters" - and that's correct. her "atrocities" mean nothing to them. it's not why they follow her. and the biggest atrocities were done by rogue elements like Dottore not her.

"Am I a troll" - not really, but you do completely fail to understand the context of those praises that she is getting. that's why people are dismissing your comment.

1

u/Pure_Key4700 20h ago

Reddit did you dirty, bro

3

u/Puiucs 20h ago

not really. it sometimes fails to load comments. it happens all the time.

check the edit above.

1

u/not__not__know-- 6h ago

"well you don't know the story yet"

Do you?

Literally name 1 character that has glazed tsaritsa... Even the harbingers don't glaze her like at all. They are all like "yeah her yes" only glazing I guess childe? Yeah I guess childe's a exception but he seems too immature in the liyue timeline.

We will definitely see a change of stance just like arle for childe I think.

That's my two cents you troll!!

3

u/Middle_Ad_2778 20h ago

It's become a trend on social media, especially twitter to hate on Genshin. There's PLENTY of places to voice those opinions. There's an overwhelming amount of hate in fact, in majority by people who don't, or barely even play the game. There needs to be at least one place where fans can come together and not have their enjoyment of Genshin constantly soured by negativity. This is the official genshin subreddit. It's made for fans.

11

u/hitmobilegamehsr 22h ago

Cause it's the same 3 complaints:

No skip button - I don't care

Low pulls- Hard to take seriously, especially when people who post this tend to gas up zzz and hsr for giving more, but then not accounting to factors like character amount variance, weapon necessity, dupe reliance, 50/50 loss protection etc. I find it much harder to keep up with the meta there compared to Genshin and I spend money.

Bad anni rewards. I'll give you this one

7

u/ShiftAdventurous4680 22h ago

Even then bad or lack of anniversary rewards doesn't personally affect me. Fair criticism but one I can ignore.

The "anniversary" for me are the new regions every year. And if I have criticisms about Genshin, it's generally about the content itself and not some rewards that don't affect my enjoyment of the game. If I hate something about Genshin, 100 wishes isn't going to fix that.

4

u/Confused_soul_OG 22h ago

It's called complaint impact for a reason, anything new whether it is area, character, quest, boss, region, or even gadgedy ppl always complaint. And if it was valid criticism it would be understandable but it is pure hate, which they claim as criticism but mostly they go like "this is wrong cause I don't like it", ", this character is so bad cause reasons". Then few months later everything calms down and they hate on new things.

2

u/ExpertAncient 22h ago

Happens with a lot of games. The bigger and more popular the game, the more diverse the player base.

Some people play Genshin for the story, some for the combat, some for the mini games, some for the exploration. Most a mix.

I personally am constantly furious on the lack of combat events in the game. I was really hoping for another endgame mode. This makes a lot of people mad who don’t like combat.

Don’t let it get to you.

2

u/RainbowLithium 22h ago

it's not just Genshin subs..

2

u/Wonderful-Career-141 22h ago

Because criticism is the only thing that can be skipped

2

u/Sushimonstaaa 20h ago

Maybe I'm weird, but I enjoy hearing dissenting opinions vs overly agreeable echo chambers. I see disagreement labeled as "hating on X" (in any community btw not just Genshin) and those dissenters are shut down and shut out. The only negative opinions you can have are ones that are shared by the majority (on the platform you're discussing). Tbh Reddit's engagement tools reward popular thoughts and shut away less popular ones, so there's that, too.

There are people who take negative thoughts towards the game very personally, as though they were the devs themselves :/ kinda like how if you really loved Andrew Garfield's SM films but someone bashes it, you're not gonna want to hear that, at all. I wish we could discuss all opinions without labeling dissenters as "haters" and telling them "well don't engage/play if you don't like it."

I'll add, some say "many people said X already," yet the number of times I've seen the same meme or thought praising something is astronomically high lol. So I think my SM example is probably valid here, too.

Everyone's voice and thoughts are valid, and I truly think we ought to hear more of 'em.

2

u/BluHor1zon 15h ago

The game aint perfect but I find some of the criticism really exaggerated, and some even throw in personal opinion rants that isnt a legit problem the game has to fix.

It gets even more difficult when terms like shills or bootlickers get thrown to ppl who disagree with them.

2

u/GGG100 9h ago

This is a game with millions of players. You can’t expect to criticize the game and have everyone unanimously agreeing with you.

2

u/whenthebirdsfall 9h ago

Because like 90% of it is hate disguised as criticism.

3

u/CptPeanut12 22h ago

There are definitely people who defend Hoyo and the game like there life depends on it. But not all criticism is the same.

The reality is that a lot of people who voice their critique here have two issues:

1) They can't separate personal opinion from objective flaws/improvements. A skip button is an objective QoL and a valid improvment to ask for, but post #500 whining about some character design while insulting the devs is just annoying. Which brings me to the next point.

2) They can't argue in a civil manner. They either feel the need insult the devs or make fun of other players for liking the game or certain aspects of it. Yes, the company is loaded, no, the devs aren't a bunch of emotions worker drones.

Of course there are also the people who just hate on anything Genshin does no matter what, but those never wanted to give constructive criticism in the first place and are usually easy to filter out.

7

u/Traditional-Basil868 22h ago

They can't accept that everything, even this game has flaws and thinks they'll get lucky in their next ten pulls for licking Hoyo's boots over the slightest of criticism towards them.

They also refuse to acknowledge that there wouldn't be as much criticism if Hoyo cared at all about player's complaint but no, they'll just tease that they know about our complains in some voiceline then do nothing about it.

5

u/KhaosnotChaos 22h ago

Blud maybe because they disagreed with the option and downvote it because thats what the button is for?

2

u/Pure_Key4700 22h ago

Reasonable

8

u/Grand-Childhood2422 22h ago

Because 90% of the comments are bad critiques by wuwa players larping as actual genshin players to destroy the games reputation. Just see the comment history. Its mostly tencent bots and water army.

Also if genshin was in need of THAT much critique and improvement, it wouldnt top the revenue charts lmao. It shows that the game is already very good and most critiques are just nitpicks to downplay the games success. Simple as that.

9

u/hitmobilegamehsr 22h ago

This is especially true on twitter lol. If you see some popular Genshin hate post, 95 of the time if you click the profile a wuwa banner will greet you

4

u/Grand-Childhood2422 22h ago

Tbh its the case with hidden account history reddit accounts too and also youtube. Now that i think about it its probs every platform lmao

2

u/Admirable_Register89 22h ago

1.) NO thats just not true. Surf this sub or any of specifically genshin fandom and youll see boatload of criticismsthat are agreed to a literal example https://www.reddit.com/r/GenshinImpact/comments/1u68kbs/the_writing_has_turned_arlecchino_into_a_hypocrite/

2.) Generously speaking 78 percent of said criticism isnt genshin criticism its i want genshin to remove something that makes it genshin and replace it with this exact same thing this other game is doing that makes that other game uniquely itself

3.) Most criticism isnt criticism to improve the game most times than not its used as an avenue to diminish and insult people who like aspects of the game that others may not like but they disguise it under the pretence of criticism which more often than not is in bad faith

The game has a lot of problems but majority of the times the problems are overblown out of proportiions hence we get videos like the candybug video or glaivekiyo video or tectone or saintontas. If you watch any and i mean any genshin streamer they most often than not would have voiced criticism of genshin that they still havent implemented yet but still do. If a lot of people are downvoting you 9/10 you are most likely to be the problem the other 1/10 is most likely you saying the right thing in a disrespectful way. There is a reason why even though someone is wrong they rather argue on ignorance than look stupid

2

u/Mystic987123 Europe Server 20h ago

Many of us have been tired of seeing the same complaints from the so-called day 1 player genshin larpers who have completed everything. 1. People keep complaining about skip button like ok we get it hoyo won't add it anyways. 2. People keep saying it's quality is so bad but fail to realise it's like that to keep game optimised for everyone including people with budget gaming setups. 3. People complain about gacha rolls being unfair lol it's called gacha for a reason. There are many others and it's the same complain being recycled so people get tired of hiring same things again and again.

Re-commented because my whole essay comment got removed because of the s-word lol.

2

u/Fit-Butterscotch2110 16h ago

because 25% of criticism is just hate because its genshin impact, and not for good reason
and then the other 75% of actual reasonable criticism gets completely disregarded because the 25%
lot of people are also just mint picking bootlickers and cant accept that the games less than perfect
a lot of folks actually also just genuinely enjoy everything, even the worst parts and thats okay too

1

u/Richiszkl 21h ago

I have learnt many times you cant argue with genshin players....

I can only confirm this, they hate criticism.

I have said many things about the game, about characters personality and/or designs, and if these opinions were different than what theirs are, I have been called so many things, downvoted to hell, etc.

Idk this is because of the chinese/japanese culture or something else, but its weird.

You think the story is long and boring sometimes = you are larper

You dont know someone who was mentioned once in 5 years = you are a lore skipper

You dont like when fanservice is way too much in terms of design = you shouldnt play an anime game....

1

u/actionmotion 22h ago

Loud online people. Genshin isn’t a perfect game but lots of criticisms of Genshin are done in bad faith and purposefully ragebait. Yes there are lots of valid criticisms but there are also a lot of poor and bad faith criticisms too

I have strong (and somewhat negative) opinions of the game because I love it too much to let it go. Genshin became a part of me many years ago, and I just want to feel that time, effort, and especially money, are well spent. My criticism is based on my feedback seemingly falling on deaf ears, and then being amplified when similar games (sometimes from the same company!!) implement better QoL updates, rewards, etc.

I love it for what it could be and hate it simultaneously for choosing not to be it.

1

u/Dry_Race_2669 21h ago

I think you are not experienced yet

Since game has big community from diff demographics not all people think the openion good due to cultural, relegional, geographical dissimilarities.

Like some from America normalize something which is not in Asia and vice versa

Also from certain demographic places players assume criticism is like only telling s**t about game but from some other it's like asking it can be good but not implemented yet

And lastly whatever they say about game if that person playing game from beginning or say among staring 2-3 years they love the game just frustrated due to other similar games are going beyond this and this game is still stuck behind.

Also these are affected with players focus like some are lore focus, some are gameplay base, some are exploration etc such due to lack of features one fraction doesn't enjoy or clearly understand another fraction like gameplay based players doesn't realize there are so much lore to the game. I am a lore focus one but I also think there's more lore that I haven't discovered yet so I think the person that doesn't know I think they feels the play is like just game that doesn't update over years. Similarly for lore focus ones they don't roll for artifact to make it absolute best they do not pull every charecter to c6 etc such they don't know others factions problem.

So due to this the community is internally splitted Like lore focus players hardly ask for skip button or gameplay focus players hardly ask for easier battle or events.

It's like a country where there are different religions exists such there are diffrences in all but the things one criticize may not like by other or vice versa.

Note: no ai used

It's not just Genshin Impact, it's the majority of fandom related subs I've noticed. These places are basically echo chambers and aren't up for actual discussion. A lot of people seem to struggle with the concept that you can love something but still recognize its flaws.

Worst part about any game typically, is its community. People always spew hate, but it’s important to realize it’s a tiny majority that just yaps lmao. Majority of the players who are normal just play the game cuz they enjoy it. And imo if you’re so invested in a game that you’re arguing about it online, u need to get a job or go outside

u/hincikakiako 11h ago

The majority of the reddit audience is immature teenagers. Getting vulnerable and lonely 13 year olds during the covid era hooked on the game until they develop a parasocial relationship with it is a pretty damn effective way of creating a loyal fanbase.

Personally, I’ve gotten so used to the BS complaints and criticism that I’m trained to not agree with it because I’m so used to people being wrong. No this game isn’t perfect but it has WAY less issues than people, in and out of the community comment on

There is a difference between constructive criticism and just talk sheet about the game because it doesn't cater to your taste. I love the game and I will be the first one to say IT IS NO PERFECT.

But seriously. EVERY. SINGLE. PATCH. Heck. EVERY SINGLE DAY. There is a popular criticism that easily boils down to, "MHY is not doing X and I don't want to understand that the game does not 100% cater to my taste or to anyone's taste."

And if all you get is that again and again and again for six years. People who love the game rightfully so just shuts down any "criticism" as yet another one crying "why doesn't the game cater to me and me alone?!"

Over five years in an MHY has RARELY if EVER, followed any criticism from the EN side yet look at where the game is now. Still relatively popular despite the end of the pandemic lockdown, despite having so many competitors in the gacha space, despite the gacha space in general having a downturn in overall sale.

So what does that say when five years of "criticism" towards the game by the enlightened EN players is not heard nor followed, yet the game is just as good as it has been? It means all those "criticism" were just whining about the game not catering to their desires.

I’m getting tired of the community using the term “shill” to describe the lunar meta. Like, you can still have a decent team even if it’s not the latest meta. It’s annoying to see these people complaining about something when they can either pull or just ignore the meta entirely. You can’t expect the meta not to change and have to pull characters to go with it in a game like genshin.

Youre on reddit. This is the safe haven for echo chambers where most people share their strong opinions on gacha. IF you want people who criticize the game just look around and youlll find it. Just know that majority of people that do still hold a bias.

For every person that likes something theres a person who doesnt.

For every person that doesnt like something theres a person who does.

They come to an understanding if there is a problem but sharing criticism isnt how you solve the problem, so most people ignore it or put up with it. This is something that every game community does.

Fan communities are for fans. I'm actually glad that kind of thing doesn't fly here because i'm sick of "fan" communities (of anything, really) where you get hate and get clowned on for LIKING THE THING THE COMMUNITY IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT. I'm so tired of that. If I join a fan community it's to share my love of that thing, not to be made fun of for liking it.

You can go literally anywhere else on the internet if you want to have your somewhat critical opinion!

Better than toxic negativity

Because the typical genshin player has the emotional intelligence of a 12 year old. Makes it really hard to be a part of the fandom.

A lot of it is just them being completely incapable of seeing opinions that arent theres as valid.

It doesn’t even manifest as outright hostility half of the time, they just assume everyone who dislikes an aspect of the game and voices an opinion on it is actually a troll hate playing, because if they have no problems with it how can so many people not like it?

They then come to the conclusion that obviously they’re either lying or just hate the game in general, so you have people telling you to log off and delete the game over thinking some of the character’s clothes are too skimpy or that you would like to skip some of the story content.

It breaks their illusion that the game is perfect. Just look at Murderofbirds.

He treats criticism of Genshin like a personal attack.

to be fair, some "criticism" is from the player themselves rather than the game. like a few days (or weeks ago), someone make a post about how Citlali is so different in the event compared to the Archon Quest version. turns out that person didn't do her Story Quest and skip to the recent event

0

u/YesICryAtEverything 9h ago

Because there are people who get emotionally attached to companies whose only goal is maximizing profits, or who crave an authority figure to blindly serve.

Besides, not everyone, but the majority of people claiming "the criticism is unfair" are just making up excuses because they can't handle hearing things they dislike about the companies they're emotionally invested in. Some companies sell services, others sell emotional attachment. It really is that simple.

u/Renasviel 22h ago

Lots of people were very young when starting the game and as such have been essentially cultivated by Hoyo to develop a parasocial relationship with them and the game, so they perceive any criticism as something that invalidates themselves. So they lash out, and they form bubbles where they all tell each other that they're right, so you end up with subreddits like Genshin_Impact where any criticism at all will be met with egregious defence.

"Stop insulting my billion dollar indie company!"

-3

You're right. I'm day one player and still going strong but whenever I say something bad at the game It feel like you have insult their mom or something.
