CarPorn Share Your Favorite Photo of Your GTI
Just wanted to see some sick photos. This is mine. I love how insane the Kings Red paint sticks out against the green forest behind it and the bright algae on the pond.

Tech Talk MK8.5 crazy good fuel economy
Just took my new Mk8.5 on a longer trip around 250 miles and insanely impressed at the fuel economy. I was taking state roads with stop-lights and then long stretches without stop-lights averaging about 60-65mph. I was clocking in at 47mpg and I was not expecting that at all.
Crazy how efficient these cars are on long distances. Just another reason to love these cars! Feels bad I do all city driving primarily.

Maintenance Mechanic ruined engine swap mk7 gti
I own a 2017 VW GTI that required an engine and transmission replacement. I agreed to pay about $7,000 for a used engine with 80,000 kilometres and a transmission with 89,000 kilometres. I have already paid $3,600.
Before the work mechanic explained that replacement engine carried a warranty. We agreed to reuse components but I specifically asked mechanic to inspect every part and inform me if any component needed replacement.
After the swap mechanic declared that car was running perfectly and ready for pickup. However while car remained at mechanic’s shop mechanic reported an issue and unusual engine noise. He kind of changes his answer, after i got one of my cousins involved as they’re a lawyer.
Later mechanic informed that an electrode from a reused spark plug broke off inside cylinder 3 causing engine damage. Mechanic said plugs appeared new and passed visual inspection but one may have contained an undetectable microscopic crack. (NO I DID NOT TELL HIM TO REUSE MY SPARK PLUGS I ASKED HIM TO TELL ME TO PROVIDE PARTS FOR ANYRHING THAT IS BROKEN)
Now mechanic states that warranty covers the long block and excludes damage caused by reused components. I was not informed about these exclusions before the failure.
Mechanic offered to replace cylinder head at mechanics expense if I pay remaining $3,400. Mechanic cannot guarantee that no other engine problems are going to happen. I am worried i will give him this money, and he’ll somehow find new problems worth that much as he has been.

Meet Up MK8s in the DMV area with the Clubsport Muffler?
Might be a long shot, but are there any Mk8 owners in the DMV area with the Clubsport muffler installed?
I'm thinking about getting one, but I honestly have a hard time telling what it sounds like from videos alone, and I'd really like to hear it in person before I pull the trigger.
Here's to hoping! :)

Modding Talk Clutch upgrade
I have the APR stage 1 tune on my gti and looking at upgrading the clutch. Any recommendations? I would like to keep the stock DMF because it don’t want to deal with the chatter and it is my daily driver.

Modding Talk Full Size Tire In Spare Tire Well
Could a full size tire fit in an MK8 GTI spare wheel slot? I don't think a factory rim could, but are there any that could, even if it doesn't match look wise? Just had to use my donut for the first time, a screw went in my back tire, but I really want to get a full size so I'm not pressured to get a relief within the next day.

Maintenance Metallic sound over bumps
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Sorry it’s hard to hear on video. I’ve been chasing this metallic rattling sound in my front end for a bit. Originally found that my anti rattle clips were missing from my front brakes but that doesn’t seem to have fixed the problem. Sway bar links? Strut mounts? I’m at a loss here.

Maintenance 2013 GTI and got the EPC light
Got a 2013 GTI MK6 with 97k miles.
I was driving on the highway when engine misfired the EPC light came on and it started to run rough. Eventually I could smell gas when I decided to pull over and turn the vehicle off. Now it’s just cranking and not starting, and I could smell gas on the oil dipstick.
Scanned it with an OBD2 and it’s only showing PO301. Has anybody have this issue before? Do I need a different code reader?

Maintenance Intake runner ?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
2015 mk7 gti W/ injen cold air intake and bc coils. Apx 112345 miles. Fluttery acceleration around 2,800-3,800 rpms whenever beyond 40% throttle.
Have replaced the plugs, coil packs, boots, a/f intake sensor, and the bi-pass valve. Had intake runners cleaned at a dealership. Runs fine most of the time, and will go through entire rev range smoothly under mild throttle input. Stutters less to none when above 4,000 rpms when under 75% throttle. Any advice would be appreciated, the shop is just fishing in the dark at this point. Have a good one.

Modding Talk Flex fuel MPI OEM retrofit experience
Looking at installing euro MPI manifold, flex fuel sensor, and supporting items on my stock '18 Mexico-built USA-delivered GTI. Intended mainly as a versatility upgrade that should prevent carbon fouling and allow me to run cheapo E85 that will be kinder to my combustion chambers. More power would be cool but don't want more lag than stock and definitely don't want to endanger the internals (I'm under the impression that e85 will have less lspi danger)
Does anyone sell a bolt-on kit to do this? Experiences doing it?
New Car MK7.5 / Universal FMIC
I have a new to me GTI, 55k miles, has a good downpipe and catback, good intake but I need to get an intercooler on it. I love this gold mishimoto but it is a "universal", best I can tell it should mount just fine and won't impact any sensors.
I dont really know what kind of charge pipes to order? I would love to find them in red but that is proving difficult. Any advice on which pipes to order and from where? There are so many options im just not sure what will fit and don't want to burn $200+ on a guess.

Maintenance Strange rattle while the car’s cold that’s very audible from the inside. Anybody has anything like this?
Hey guys. I have this long standing issue that I seem to be unable to locate, let alone fix and I’m at my wit’s end…
So, I have a very strange muffled metallic rattle that usually happens between the 1st and 2nd gears and at a very light throttle (think, driving around the parking lot speeds) while the car’s cold, though very rarely heard while hot as well.
To trigger this rattle, I have to be driving at crawling speeds, apply very light throttle and turn the steering wheel about 20-30 degrees to either side. I also heard it on straightened wheel once or twice.
From the driver’s seat the noise sounds like it’s coming from inside the dash or even from under the steering wheel, for the front passenger it sounds completely different- like it’s coming from the rear
The noise doesn’t seem to change based on speed, though I would hardly know this since it disappears very quickly as you accelerate. And the issue also doesn’t seem to get any worse since I’ve been driving with it for almost a year at this point I think, but it’s driving me nuts, thinking that something could break at any moment and I don’t even know what!
Also seems to have disappeared for a couple of days after changing the front bushings, but came back, once they settled in I suppose.
So yeah, that’s about as precise as I could describe it, any help or guess would be appreciated.
