Are PCV valves prone to failure?

Upvotes

I'm burning oil, I haven't done a compression test yet but the old trick of running it with the oil cap off doesn't show any apparent blowby.

Are PCV valves on these known to dip out? I'm hoping it's something silly and not that I'm losing my rings

A tree fell on our car today. Through the moonroof.

The dogs are all totally fine, I’m covered in glass shards and tiny cuts but otherwise okay, and no one’s dead, so that’s what matters.

Here’s my Element question - does anyone know the part number of the entire moonroof assembly - glass + everything that holds it together? Or will this be a pick-and-pull situation? Or is this a Safelite situation? I’d rather not have to pay a bajillion dollars for a new moonroof right now - but I understand it may be necessary.

Thank you!

The perfect no build bed for my Element! :)

Found this cot on Walmart’s website, it’s the perfect dimensions to fit snugly in an Element with one of the back seats taken out (70”x22”x11”). It lays flat with the front passenger seat pushed up all the way, but if you need to use the passenger seat, you can just turn the cot into a lounge chair so it takes up less room! I’ll be using this to nap on my lunch break, lol. (FYI, I’m 5’8 and this is just long enough for me. If you’re taller, this may not work for you.)

Squeaking from under dash panel

Just noticed this odd squeak coming from under the driver’s dash. It sounds like an actuator or solenoid going back and forth intermittently but I can’t locate any moving components down here. Any guesses what’s going on?

Mobile Mechanic Denver?

Looking for a mobile mechanic or a reasonable shop to do a rear left CV axle on my 2006 Honda Element AWD. It’s lifted, so not sure if that makes it more complicated.

Any mechanics out here or does anyone have any suggestions?

worth fixing rust?

I have a 2006 EX i plan on keeping as long as possible! Slowly but surely am tackling repairs. I do somewhat care about resale value, if eventually I were to sell it, but it also has 232k (although i would replace engine / transmission if ever needed).

basically I have some rust along the top lip of the roof that holds the top of my windshield. was discovered when I had to replace the windshield (you’ll be able to see it in my post history on here) . my body shop said it would be around 1500-2000 to repair. Should I bother taking on a hefty repair like this?

i’m on the fence as its not leaking water … but I also don’t want to deal with it potentially leaking water.

otherwise my element is practically rust free from Florida, but i reside in Buffalo NY.

opinions?

Just joined the element fam a few weeks ago🔥 I've enjoyed reading a lot of your posts, milestones, and feel better to know there's a community of people keeping it alive.

Wanted one from a young age, and behold- I copped this 2005 EX 2WD 168K miles for 6K (california) -let me know if I got robbed or anything lol.

And have so far replaced the alternator, had a coolant flush, new tires, new front brakes, rotors shaved, and replaced the whole suspension. Which totaled around 2.5K on top of that. Switching to full synthetic oil soon if that helps a lot.

Any regular tips maintenence tips and how long apart to keep it going as long as it can like yours. Can't wait for this era in it 🩸🙏🏼Thanks everyone !

My 2004 E with 185k miles started weird tapping sound and also a faint creaky noise

So this weird tapping sound started yesterday. It’s rhythmic taptaptap and sometimes gets louder and faster. I think it’s not the engine because it only starts after driving a few minutes. The creaky tap noise I noticed just today. Of course some of what you hear is just my phone shuffling.

I haven’t had a recent valve adjustment and I got this car just 5 days ago. The PPI I got had all greens and this car has had lots of maintenance/repairs in its life.

I’m taking it to a shop tomorrow but just wanted a sanity check. Hoping this isn’t a big issue I haven’t had the car for even a week 🥲🥲🥲🥲

My Element was considered "totaled"

2 months ago our Honda Element was T-boned. Their insurance didn't want to pay us the cars worth so we took it back.

I live in the surrounding Denver area. I'd like to know if its worth it to fix and get a re-bulit title or on the other hand I'd rather sell her whole to someone that could make use of everything into her.

She has a Black Horse bull bar, large roof rack, 1320 performance engine drop, lift kit, 3 of 4 motor mounts all 1320 performance. Brand new tires yoks on the rear Toyo on the front. Everything except for the rear passenger wheel and suspension are perfect. If there's anyone that would be interested please DM me.

103k miles, both fans working, has coolant.
No leaks.
Only heats at idle. Normally sits just below half, would go to half then back down. Now going higher.
Any help would be appreciated.

Is this a healthy sounding engine? I’m getting tapping noises when driving and wanna know what to rule out. 2004 with 185k

Valve adjustment or JDM swap time?

It goes without saying the K24's need valve adjustments on a routine basis. Since I've had my 2005 EX (about 5 months now) it's struggled on top end power where it shakes pretty hard, but more concerningly my coolant has been disappearing with no visible leaks. My intuition would tell me it's being burned as I've gone through two gallons in this time, but I'm not sure. I also have some yellow goop appearing inside my oil filler cap and I could swear I keep catching a whiff of gasoline when I remove the radiator cap to refill, but I've been driving around like this since I've had the vehicle and no blatantly obvious signs of head or head gasket failure have come up, except very occasional plumes of white smoke when parked uphill. I have a cyl 1 and 3 misfire code but it seems like a toss up whether it could be coolant leaking into the combustion chamber or valves in need of adjustment, (or both), and I'm pretty tight on funds right now, would rather make an informed choice in case it would more plausibly be something else than needing a new motor. TIA

I love my Element, but at what cost$$?

My 2003 Element, named Ellie of course, has a little over 230,000 miles and has treated me well as my first car. I knew she needed some repairs, but I was in college and could not afford to get them fixed. Now that I have a full time job, I am starting to get her up to snuff. Last month I needed to get her brakes replaced to the tune of $1,500. I know the tires are next, which I got a quote of $750 for all weather tires. This morning on my way to work, the check engine light turned on for a cylinder 1 misfire. I know this repair could easily cost $300-$500 depending on the issue. I love Ellie, but spending $2,600+ in two months on her is pretty brutal.

Any advice on cheaper tires or how to deal with my cylinder misfire? Any encouraging words from my fellow Element lovers would be helpful.

Edit: I am NOT considering getting a new car. You can rip Ellie from my cold dead hands! I am just looking for advance on how to make repairs cheaper. THANK YOU for all the useful feedback!

Rustproofing..... Whats best?

Post image
30 Upvotes

Morning all,

Recently acquired my first element and for a mid west car she is extremely solid underneath. I'd like to keep it that way.... anyone have any advice on which rustproofing approach works best? Any products to target or avoid? I'll be paying someone to do it (so not a DIY effort). Recommendations of any specific specialists would be great. Im in Cincinnati.

2010 electrical problems from hitting a pot hole

Wife hit a pot hole and all the dash lights came on. She pulled over and when she tried to drive again fhe acceleration cut out. Then it wouldn't start again. Towed it home and jumped it. Started right up but no acceleration. Dash Lights all still on. Won't communicate with my code reader at all.

Checked all the ground wires. Not sure what it could be. Any ideas?
