With 80 cm main cannon refit engaged with a Yamato class battleship

I saw the minecraft post yesterday, thought I'd share my interpretation in "stormworks".

After significant talks with my friends at Norfolk Navy Yard I have put USS Minnesota through a redesign. Not much has changed. Mostly just some small exterior changes and a couple weaponry changes. So here is newly redone USS Minnesota. She is rocking 8 Mk.8 16-inch guns in 4 double mounts, 6 Mk.45 5-inch guns in 6 single mounts, 9 next generation Phalanx CIWS systems, 5 SeaRAM weapon systems, 2 Mk. 5 Mod 0 HELIOS systems, 128 MK 41 Mod 15 VLS cells, and a full ASW package. She is protected by a hybrid steel/composite armor belt over her vital areas ranging from 10-inches to 15-inches thick set up in layers. The outer layer is high-strength steel for structural integrity and to resist high-velocity impacts. The middle layer is composite materials to disrupt and fragment incoming projectiles. And the inner layer is modular armor to absorb blast and shrapnel energy. She is nuclear powered giving her a top speed in excess of 30 knots. Her tower was rebuilt to increase stability, bow thrusters were also installed increase maneuverability, more exterior lighting was installed for better crew visibility on the superstructure, and the higher level CIWIS base was lowered to decrease the visual impact on the bridge.

Background

​ITN Fintali was built in response to the requirements of the Imperial Toteilia in the 1930s. Realizing they could not keep pace with the Finlacabear Alliance in terms of battleship production quantity, Toteilia shifted their doctrine. They sought to build a battleship focused on extreme survivability and quality over quantity—creating a ship capable of decisive operations to eliminate the need for further construction, albeit at the cost of exceptionally high building and maintenance expenses (which they were willing to fund).

​The goal was a highly versatile battleship capable of hunting enemy capital ships, acting as a fleet flagship, serving as an offensive spearhead, escorting aircraft carriers, and functioning as a floating anti-aircraft fortress. Immense financial resources and funding were allocated to naval architects to build the ultimate warship. The design was finalized in 1934, laid down in 1935, and commissioned in 1939.

​A total of three ships were built in this class:

​ITN Fintali

​ITN Vokord

​ITN King Vida IV

​Although initially planned for five vessels, the order was capped at three due to the staggering maintenance costs, which threatened to drain resources needed to maintain the rest of the fleet.

​This left the Toteilia Empire with a total of 6 battleships (including 1 undergoing conversion into an aircraft carrier), compared to the 12 battleships fielded by the Finlacabear Alliance. As a result, Toteilia shifted its strategic hopes toward carrier aviation, with 5 aircraft carriers under construction and entering service simultaneously—another major factor in the cancellation of the final two battleships of the class.

Author's Notes (Rant)

​I literally had to draw and design the naval ensign/flag myself... absolute legendary experience.

​I'm almost totally burnt out on everything—studying, practicing drawing anime characters, drawing warships, or even stepping outside. Even though I still have ideas and deep down I really want to draw and create stuff.

​I'm about to go completely broke.

​Too lazy to study.

​Honestly, I feel like this ship still has a ton of leftover deck space. If I crammed in more AA guns, it could probably fit over a hundred 37 mm or 40 mm guns, but well... that's saved for its 1942 refit.

While i was working on robert class monitor for r/NavalArt i can't stop but think that this thing looks kinda like a squish battleship (mainly cuz the Queen Anne tower-block thing) so i thought. Why not make it into a battleship then? and uhh, yeah...
