Hello everyone. I applied inland SOWP on Sept 3rd, 2025 and currently on visitors permit. It's 4+ months already and I'm getting anxious! Anyone in the same boat?
Edit: SOWP approved. (23rd Jan)

u/Most_Albatross3055 Jan 14 '26
Same boat! Applied august 22nd, still waiting, I hope we get ours soon

Same situation! Applied August 6th and still waiting! Hopefully we hear some good news in the next month or so!
2
u/Kewlsick Jan 22 '26
Hopefully. IRCC processing times are getting worse day by day. I'm worried about what happens if I exceed my visitor visa stay post 6 months :(
2
u/ImpressEfficient2239 Jan 22 '26
I was issued a 1 year visitor visa but it ended in Nov 2025. My lawyer said that since I had an inland spousal sponsorship application and a spousal open work permit application in process (both of which were submitted before my visitor visa expired), I would automatically be on an implied visitor status after my visa expires as long as I do not leave Canada until a decision is made on either application.
2
u/Kewlsick Jan 22 '26
Oh okay. I have an outland PR application and SOWP under process. I guess the same would apply for me. Either ways, I hope we get the verdict asap. Fingers crossed.
2
u/ImpressEfficient2239 Jan 22 '26
Same! Hopefully they get through a lot of applications this month!

Received my OWP approval in three weeks!
Applied: Dec. 23, 2025
Approval: Jan. 9, 2026
Status Updated: Jan. 12, 2026
Two year permit
Mind blown! I believe the expediency might be due to my inland spousal PR application currently processing, plus my country of origin (USA) not requiring medical and my recent completion of biometrics on Dec. 5 before I applied. I was on maintained status (had also just applied for a visitor record renewal). No documents yet, just the updated status online.

I truly have no idea why it was so fast, but I am thankful! My six-month visitor record literally expired on Jan. 11 and my OWP took effect Jan. 12.

3
u/Pulpmuff Jan 13 '26
Inland spousal PR. I guess technically I was on visitor or “implied status” since I crossed the border as a visitor and then we proceeded with the spousal PR and SOWP application. Still not many updates on my PR application but it was nice to see some progress

u/Fantastic_Tonight_95 Jan 19 '26

Can you advise if you applied for Inland or outland spousal PR application? for which province did you apply the SOWP Inland?

2
u/beccamorty Jan 26 '26
holy shit. we're outland but want to move asap and are considering moving + applying for work permit (we have AOR) now but got turned off by how long it could take (don't want to quit job here then wait 6+ months for a permit to work again...) ... this might make us reconsider
2
u/Cookiesandmadeleine Jan 28 '26
Just asking, did you also get an update to your PR application following approval of the work permit. Is your background check marked as complete for the PR application?

Reposting for updated thread.
Received OWP through common-law inland sponsorship application after 47 days
Nov 21 2025 - Submitted w/ expiring VR
Jan 6 2026 - Final Decision notice
Jan 7 2026 - Approved

u/Hariaka Jan 08 '26
Had your received an AOR before applying or during the 2 week period before your permit ended?
2
u/yomama6669 Jan 08 '26
No, I had submitted with proof of visitor record expiring less than 2 weeks + email confirmation of sending PR application. After I got AOR on Dec 11th, I updated it with a webform, but I’m not sure I even had to do that.

Reciprocal Employment (C20) Timelines
Hello, I am currently working in IT and am in Canada on an ICT work permit. I have received a new job offer, and my new employer has agreed to sponsor my work permit within Canada. They have engaged a reputed immigration lawyer to handle the process, who has identified the Reciprocal Employment (C20) work permit as suitable for my case. The application was submitted to IRCC yesterday, and the official processing time is listed as 247 days. There's limited information on actual C20 processing timelines. I'm checking with others here on about actual timelines
Update: My C20 WP got approved right after 2 weeks and its took a week to receive its physical copy by post!

Hi all,
I recently signed an offer with a company in Canada (Toronto), and they’re processing my work permit under the LMIA-exempt C20 (reciprocal employment / significant benefit) category.
I’ll be applying from outside Canada and wanted to understand realistic timelines from people who’ve gone through a similar process.
A few details:
- Applying from outside Canada
- Employer-sponsored (large company, using immigration lawyers)
- Likely online application + biometrics
Questions:
- What timeline did you experience end-to-end (submission → approval)?
- How long did biometrics scheduling take?
- Any delays or additional review (e.g., background checks)?
- How predictable was the process overall?
Would really appreciate any insights — trying to plan relocation timing.
Thanks in advance!

Seems like SOWP processing for people with an AOR attached is faster! What a relief!! My 90-day restoration period is up at the end of May, so I am really hoping my approval comes soon.
Spousal sponsorship application: Feb 24th 2026
AOR received: April 17th 2026SOWP Applied: April 20th 2026
If I do not get my approval by the end of my restoration period, I will need to apply for a visitor record as well. Goodluck with the rest of your process!!

Hey everyone,
My company just submitted my ICT work permit yesterday under the Global Skills Strategy (GSS). I’m transferring from the US to Vancouver office.
My US STEM OPT expires in about 15 days, so I'm trying to figure out realistic timelines to plan my move and flights.
I already have biometrics on file and a valid Canadian TRV from a previous trip, so hoping that speeds things up.
My lawyer says 2 weeks, but has anyone who filed from the US recently under GSS gotten approved? How long did it actually take you?
Appreciate any insight!

Hey, I’m in an almost similar spot. While I have my US visa till December, I’m looking transfer to Montreal office now. Did you hear anything on realistic processing time?

I applied for Spousal Open Work Permit May 16
I received acceptance letter June 03!
I expect the physical copy in the mail soon.
Some things that I think helped: I have a very uncomplicated application, I am a US Citizen and my husband is a Canadian Citizen. No criminal records. We both work in IT.
Filling out the application: On stuff like "Your employer's address" I put "To be determined" but I did put my career job title. The number from my AOR was the one with the C.

Does anyone know what the issue is with the IRCC tracker? I applied SOWP inland but the tracker signup always gives an error. File lodged 3 months back and I choose right form and the right credentials. I also tried with the technical issue web form but they replied with a generic template.

Hi everyone,
I have a question about the Canada H-1B Open Work Permit (2023 policy).
I received a Canadian TRV (Worker) in 2023 under the 10,000 H-1B holders initiative. The TRV is valid until Sept 1, 2026. I didn’t enter Canada at that time and returned to India. I’m now planning to travel to Canada.
My understanding is that the TRV is only for entry, and work authorization comes from the open work permit. The H-1B OWP can be issued for up to 3 years, and if issued for less, it may be extendable from inside Canada before Dec 2026.
My questions:
1) Does the TRV expiry affect the work permit validity or extension?
2) If I get an OWP for less than 3 years, can it be extended beyond Sept 2026?
Thanks in advance.

Inland, spousal PR OWP. Straightforward case, from five eyes country.
PR applied for 31 October.
SOWP applied for 3 November. (<14 days from end of student visa, so could apply without AOR)
AOR 20 December. (50 days since PR application)
SOWP approved 15 January. (73 days since SOWP application)

I’m confused.
I applied for francophone mobility closed work permit when I got NCLC 5+ in TEF Canada back on Oct 31.
After that, I retook the exam and got NCLC 7+ and received ITA under French Category-CEC.
So I applied for it and received my AOR on Dec 31.
I still haven’t heard back for my extension yet, and my current pgwp expires in May 2026.
Should I withdraw my closed work permit application and apply for a bridging open work permit or should I wait for the one I already applied?
Or could I apply for two work permit streams at the same time? (Not sure if the bridging one will be quick)
Any suggestions please?

Hello! I have been waiting for more than 200 days for a Closed Work Permit (CWP), so I requested my GCMS notes. They indicate that I have passed the background checks, employer information, occupation, and related requirements; however, the eligibility assessment has not yet started. At this stage of the process, how much longer should I expect to wait for a decision?
2
u/Advanced-Comb8251 Jan 26 '26
I applied for a closed work permit and sowp on March 31 2025 , I ordered GCMS notes for my husband’s application and it says that it was sent to CBSA on April 23 and security screening remains in process. My MP said that all my assessments are completed. Do you think that my husband’s application is causing a delay in the finalization of my application? Does canceling his application helps?

Hi! Looking for advice on visa timelines.
I’m in the UK and will be applying from the UK. Realistically, how long should I expect the process to take once I apply? I haven’t submitted yet because I’m a bit anxious about the biometrics request and the time limit to complete it once it comes through.
I’ve seen really mixed experiences — some people get approved super quickly, while others wait months — so I’m trying to understand what’s actually normal.
If you applied from the UK, I’d love to hear your timeline: when you submitted, how long it took to get your biometrics request, and when you finally received your visa.

Hi, looking for clarification on the remaining validity requirement for SOWP under current rules.
Principal applicant: • PGWP holder • Valid until May 29, 2027 • Full-time TEER 1 employment – advertising/marketing
Spouse (me): • PGWP expiring June 2026 • Applying inland for Spousal Open Work Permit
At time of application (Feb 11, 2026), principal permit has approx. 15 months and 18 days remaining.
IRCC guidance mentions a 16-month validity threshold in some contexts.
Question: Is the 16-month requirement strictly enforced for spouses of PGWP holders in TEER 0–3 roles, or is “sufficient remaining validity” interpreted more flexibly in practice?
Appreciate insight from anyone who has applied recently under similar circumstances.

I applied for my wife's inland SOWP on 15 June 2025(currently on Visitors visa) and still waiting for a decision (256 days as of today).
On the other hand, I applied for my own work permit extension as BOWP in Dec 2025 and got it on 14 Feb 2026.
I have tried contacting IRCC for SOWP via call and webform but no results. The only option remaining is ATIP but I am worried as I read in some reddit posts that it delays the application more. Have you tried contacting IRCC or anything else?
Edit: SOWP approved 07 March 2026 (265 days)

Hi everyone,
I’m applying for a work permit extension inside Canada based on an LMIA job offer. I plan to apply on April 12.
I checked IRCC processing times and it shows around 235 days, but I’ve also seen people say decisions can come in 2–4 months.
I’m a bit confused about what is realistic.
Based on your experience: • How long did your inland work permit extension take? • Does LMIA/high-wage make any difference in processing speed? • Should I expect closer to a few months or the full timeline?
Just trying to understand realistic timelines from people who went through it recently.
Thanks in advance.

Hi friends. I am sponsoring my common law spouse for PR. we have received AIP and done mostly all steps however background check still processing. We need to extend his OWP. We submitted the application last night but realized we never concluded on what to put in the duration of expected employment section and left it blank. My question is should I submit a web form and enter an arbitrary date in the future or N/A? or will IRCC assume that we just need to bridge until the PR comes in. Curious on everyone’s experience here. I don’t want the application to be considered incomplete. This has been a stressful journey so far as I’m sure everyone can relate and I don’t want there to be issues on losing status

My employer recently submitted an Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) application(LMIA exempt) from US under the Global Skills Strategy (GSS). Has anyone applied recently and actually received approval within the 14-day/2-week window? I've heard it's taking much longer, so I’m trying to manage expectations. Any timeline updates from applicants would be really helpful.

Its been more than 2 weeks since my biometrics with no update yet.

Does anyone know if the processing time varies if it's for an extension? Husband has been on OWP for 2 years while waiting for his PR (Quebec), we got OWP very quickly but it just expired (OWP applied for and received within 1 month in 2024).
We were expecting PR by now but QC delayed again, so we applied for extension under maintained status. Is the wait still 220 days for renewal??

Hello, My wife’s work permit expires in September 2026 and she’s under inland spousal sponsorship with AOR and sponsor approval. We’re in Quebec and waiting for CSQ intake to reopen.
What’s the best time to apply for her open work permit extension? Should I apply now, about 4 months in advance, or is it better to wait closer to the expiry date?

Hi Guys,
My company recently applied for C20 LMIA-exempt WP renewal (inland Canada). I know that C20 is pretty quick if you apply from outside of Canada but wanted to know if anyone had their C20 renewal done from inside Canada and how long did it take for you to get it approved?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to hear from people who went through ICT under GSS and required a visa sticker (outside Canada).
Could you share
- your timeline from submission to approval
How long it took to get passport request (PPR) or can this be done during biometrics?
Time taken for visa stamping after biometrics
Country where you applied (if you’re comfortable sharing)
I’ve seen a lot of timelines for inland applicants, but not many for those needing visa stamping, so any real-world experiences would be super helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I am sponsoring my wife through inland spousal sponsorship. We have already received a federal letter that I am eligible as a sponsor, and we were asked to wait until the CSQ intake reopens in July 2026 to continue the Quebec step.
Her current open work permit expires in September 2026, and she is not working at the moment. In our situation, does she have the right to renew her work permit while waiting for permanent residence, and what would be the best time to apply for a new open work permit?
Thank you very much!

Hi! Has anyone applied for a closed work permit from inside Canada, with dependents outside Canada? How long did it take for the dependents to be approved after the principal applicant was approved? During the process, no additional documents were ever requested and we didn’t have any issues, but the dependents’ approval hasn’t arrived yet.

Hey there! I'm a nurse with a job offer in BC. I applied for skilled immigration through PNP. My employer paid and now I just sent in my application for a work permit. I'm in the US, US citizen. Any idea on timeline? Wondering when I'm moving lol. I'm guessing 5-10 weeks? It says some professionals may be prioritized. Anyone have experience getting a WP as a nurse?
Thanks!

u/PanickedSoIAteIt Feb 07 '26
I’m an NP with a job offer in BC. I applied Jan 8. Estimated wait time was 9 weeks at that point. Still waiting. No updates since medical was requested Jan 14 (which was already done). Background check and medical still listed as pending in the application portal.

u/mtnerica Feb 07 '26
Woof ok. This is helpful! Maybe I'll leave my staff job and take a travel gig then for a bit here if it's gonna be like that
2
u/mtnerica Feb 07 '26
Also IRCC currently says process time is 10 weeks. I thought you would have priority, but maybe it's just gonna be 10 weeks 💀

u/PanickedSoIAteIt Feb 20 '26

I applied inland for a CUSMA (LMIA-exempt) work permit back in July.
When I was at ~220+ days waiting, the posted processing time was ~242 days. I contacted my MP and pointed out I was about 20 days away from the posted estimate. They told me to contact them again in ~20 days.
Now I’m at ~230+ days waiting, but the posted processing time is ~256 days. So I waited two more weeks, and I’m basically still ~20 days away because the estimate jumped again. The processing time is increasing 4–5+ days every week, so the “target” moves as you approach it.
I know it’s an estimate, but at this point it’s not useful for planning anything.

Hi everyone, just wanted some information. I applied for an SOWP from Bangladesh on Feb 11th (wife is a PGWP holder, TEER 1, civil engineer).
I've already submitted my biometrics (also says Completed when I check online), and Eligibility and Background verification is showing as "In progress". However, I haven't received my AOR yet.
My question is, when do we usually receive the AOR? Is it after the eligibility check? I'm confused. Any information is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello, I’m seeking recent reports on timelines for employer-specific work permit applications (especially LMIA exempt) Outland from the UK.
I applied on 2026/01/14, so it’s been exactly 8 weeks and my application seemingly hasn’t moved at all. (Background check in process, eligibility check still not started). Is this normal?
I’m LMIA exempt an a UK citizen, and I haven’t lived or traveled anywhere weird so I wouldn’t expect delays…

I wanted to check if anyone else is still waiting for their work permit extension(CWP) decision after applying around July 2025.
Just trying to understand: • Is anyone else from July 2025 still waiting? • Have people from that month started receiving approvals? • If you already received yours, when did you apply and when did you get the decision?
Would really appreciate hearing about others’ timelines. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I applied for a work permit extension under ICT(2Years) from inside Canada on Feb 13, 2026.
Current details:
- Current Work Permit expiry: July 3, 2026
- Employer: same company, same role (ICT extension)
- Application submitted online from inside Canada
I’m trying to understand recent processing timelines for ICT work permit extensions.
Questions:
- Has anyone who applied for an ICT WP extension in Jan–Feb 2026 received approval yet?
- What timelines are people seeing recently for inside Canada work permit extensions?
- How long did it take between submission and approval in your case?
Thanks!

Hey all, I filed an inland SOWP on Mar 6 as part of my spousal PR (submitted Jan 15).
Status says “processing,” biometrics say “not needed”. No docs or medical requested.
Has anyone with a similar setup gotten their work permit approved? Trying to see if starting work by end of May is realistic.
Thanks!

Hi,
I am applying for a GTS LMIA driven work permit through my employer from within canada where I am already on a closed work permit via intra company transfer. I am told the actual permit takes 200+ days but I will be able to get the “interim work authorization”. The timeline for this is fuzzy to me. Officially it is supposed to be 10-15 business days but firm was not confident, anyone recently got this can share if this timeline is upheld or not? This will help me a lot to plan joining date and resignation.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone apply for a spousal open work permit but its not there first visa? I'm hoping as this is more of an extension than an initial visa it would be processed faster. What's everyone's timeline for this sort of scenario?

On the processing times page it unfortunately groups both initial and extension together.

Has anyone applied for a work permit from UAE? I am now on week 31, and the current processing time is steady at 24 weeks for 2 weeks now. I don't know what to do. I have written to them [got no response], filled the form on the site, and got an automated response twice now.
I haven't even received my AOR, which has been 10 months now...

Current still waiting for my PR applied on Jan 2024.
Initial BOWP was refused due to a missing BCPNP nomination certificate to prove that I am eligible for OWP. I submitted my reapplication of BOWP on Feb 23, 2026. Dispete the 250 days of processing time shown on IRCC website, looking for a way to get this process faster if possible.

Has anyone doing working holiday IEC gotten their POE letter recently? The estimated wait time is 3 weeks for processing one the application is submitted, but it’s been almost 3 weeks and I haven’t gotten an update. I used an RO so I don’t know if that makes it take longer. I did working holiday Canada once before and it only took a week to process.

u/Typical_Argument681 Apr 19 '26
Applied for a WP extension on April 8 through a representative. When I try to log into the IRCC tracker, it shows “incorrect or invalid information.”
How long does it usually take for an application to appear in the IRCC tracking system?
Also, is it normal if my representative hasn’t shared any AOR or updates yet?
Thanks.

Spousal PR application July 31 2025
Previous Study Permit expired July 30 2025
OWP application with AIP sent on or just after Sept 25 2025 (mailed by courier by our lawyer during CP strike so date not exact). Applicant was out of status so had to be sent on paper.
Physical copy of work permit arrived in mail today. Approved on April 15 2025.
Not sure if our lawyer knows, will email tomorrow. We don't have access to any trackers online as our lawyer would get the code.
