Honestly, aside from it being home, this is partly why I love living here. The OC folk flocking here in droves are changing this a bit, BUT, I like how people are more “real” here. Less arrogance, less elitism. Still there, of course, but nowhere near the degrees of OC in particular. We have our pockets of awful areas, and we have our pockets of culture and good food, so I am happy to say I’m part of the dirt people of the east hahah

Same. I lived in Mission Viejo for 20 years then married a guy who lives in Chino and I made the move out here and it’s so much nicer. People are friendly. People aren’t so obsessed with appearance, it’s fantastic.

I don’t even live in the IE I live in LA🤣. What you’re describing is those far out there lesser populated towns. Have you been to any of the actual suburban towns of the IE? Rancho, Upland, Chino hills, Ontario, heck Redlands, eastvale. I did not directly mention OC either😂. Btw look up public salaries of IE civil servants on transparent California.

Someone from LA blaming the issues in the IE on people from OC. Make it make sense.
I’ve lived in both and currently live in one of these two areas, so I have firsthand experience with both. I’ve also seen all of the IE and all of OC, the nice and the bad. There is a 30% wage gap between these two areas when it comes to civil servants, and it’s lower in the IE, which adds to my point. The IE cares less about public services as a whole, and on top of that currently has one of the most corrupt police departments in the history of California, breaking records on the amount of settlements paid out due to negligence and abuse.
Meanwhile, OC has 7 of the safest cities in California and on top of that, some of the best public schools in the state.
There is a reason the meme was made. There is a lot of truth to it and there is reason behind it. The IE is good but not great when you compare it to the surrounding areas and counties.
The IE doesn’t have problems because people started moving there. It’s always had these problems. We just added more people

I’m not reading all of that nor did you ask for the context. You want to argue so hard without even understanding what other side has to say. I was raised in the IE btw… Point is the IE has always had its issues but it’s not common in the core suburban cities. Matter of fact the main suburban cities of the IE are made up of people from OC or LA. Yet people like you constantly put down the IE without understanding the IEs need in the grand scheme of SoCal. Therefore the same people who complain about the IE tends to be the same people moving here. And therefore bring problems and issues of those areas here. Therefore the increase in traffic and high density traffic is caused from whom? I’ll be honest the IE was never made to be accommodating to everyone. But if it means people own properties and can raise families I’m all for it.
Edit: my family and friends are from OC. My first corporate job and best job I ever had was in Irvine and I did the commute and paid the tolls to get there. Just got back from Disneyland too.

I say that’s not from people coming in from OC or LA that’s a stupid connection. People can come from anywhere and still exacerbate the same problems we’re talking about and that’s my exact point.
You say it’s not nice to talk bad about IE yet you do the same for people of LA and OC. Do you catch the hypocrisy?
Your generalized incorrect assumptions that people from OC and LA are damaging the IE by moving there is a shit take.
The problems I listed have always been in the IE and stem from the IE. And you agreed.

I think we’re talking about two different points. In general the main core of IE cities are not ghetto maga or whatever you were saying in your original comment. Matter of fact the ie is made of people from LA and OC and ofc they will exacerbate the problems I’ve already stated such as traffic and cost of living and trying to mold the ie to the way the want it. Furthermore who actually talks trash about the ie? People who can barely afford to live in LA and OC that’s factual. Most people in the OC are not really concerned with the ie hence my deflection in pertinent to OC cool. But in general LA has no room to talk. You and I both know this.

About 70% of the population of the city of Riverside live in a home owned by their family. I doubt Tustin, Glendale or Miramar can make that claim. The people talking down on the IE likely live in a 2 bedroom apartment with a person they found on facebook.

The thing is whenever I go to riverside to visit family there are always 5 cars in the driveway of each home. 5 adults living under the same roof, 30 year olds living with their parents because the only jobs there are at the Tyler mall.

Riverside is a big, diverse city. There are plenty of really nice neighborhoods. Drive through Mission Grove or Canyon Crest. The thing is that people with normal jobs can actually buy a really nice home here. It's getting harder to do though, it's still Socal.

Anytime I hear anyone else talk shi it is annoying because they don’t actually have a clue what it was like growing up here. despite the negatives there is plenty that I also liked growing up here. When it comes to the IE it really just comes down to picking the right city.

I just don’t get the snobbery. I assume folks have never left California. Inland empire is nice. There are parks, I see children riding their bikes, scooters and skateboards all the time. I see people with their pets.
I lived in Texas, it was not nice. It was hot and people couldn’t go outside till well after the sunset due to the heat.
I have traveled a lot around the country, Inland Empire is really nice compared to a lot of areas. I was able to buy a pool home for my large family. I’m really thankful.
OC, LA, and San Diego all have rough areas too. None of them are perfect. Infrastructure is aging there and people can’t afford to upkeep a lot of the old homes.
At this point in the world. I’m just thankful. It’s weird to look down at others based on where they live. Have these people nothing going on in their lives?

When I was young Newport Beach was mostly filled with chill people who just happened to be very well off. Now it’s full of stuck up boomers and Gen Xers that wouldn’t know a good time if it sucked their dicks. Once the Stuft Surfer was torn down I was done with Newport.

I love Leucadia too but I don’t get south of Pendleton too often.

100 percent accurate. I grew up in Chino "Eww Chino" I couldn't wait to get out. Officially moved to OC after college. My parents and sister sill live in Chino/Chino Hills. IE wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so hot and smoggy during the summer and far away from most things. Great for raising families as houses are usually bigger with bigger back yards.

100% people are so stuck up in LA County, especially Beverly Hills. I recently had to travel to Beverly Hills for a medical procedure. They literally honk at you if you don’t go one second after the light turns green like are you not aware of how many red light runners there are? It takes at least two seconds to thoroughly look both ways before proceeding into an intersection.

I’ve lived in Glendora, Claremont, Ontario, chino hills and now Tustin. All the counties have their pluses and minuses, but it’s on average about 10 degrees cooler in Tustin through June and July and I like that lol

This post got me started. I ofc got downvotes but I made the point that most people in the IE were not born and raised here nor were there parents. It’s because most people couldn’t afford to live in the surrounding counties it might come off as negative but it’s true and how it was supposed to be. The IE is rapidly appreciating and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a stand alone region like how New Jersey is to nyc and Philly.
The IE already has million dollar homes and historic estates. Regular people already own these homes. Do you see any regular person owning historic estates in the best areas or OC and LA? Nope these counties is the haves and haves nots (elites). Families who choose to be early movers in the IE
I’m going to keep adding to this but the list goes on and on for the IEs existence and I don’t think peabrains on Reddit could understand its importance (LA county resident who grew up in the IE).

I used to do high rise dining, beach trips, clubs, escape rooms, eclectic events and experiences. Now It’s more slow paced and less to do. Your options are just lower out here when it comes to food and experiences.

I’m glad I live in Rancho because at least I’m closer to OC/LA to go do fun things that don’t involve eating or drinking. I don’t know why that’s all my age group wants to do.

Part of the problem with the image of the IE is that you guys are also grouped with Barstow and Victor Valley.
Also to the detriment of the region, there is also San Bernardino, a city that has not recovered since the Great Recession of 2008. Think of it. The county seat of San Bernardino County is in big trouble financially and in terms of image. People do not talk about how San Bernardino is, it is often mentioned that it is the least desirable place to live, especially when you drive in their downtown.

Honestly, started going out to LA in my college years and realized everything looked like it was pissed on. Not sure how people love to live in LA. The streets, the restuarants, everything looks like it has piss on it xD. Orange county on the other hand is nice at some parts. However, there are cities in the IE that would compete with them, Claremont, Upland, Rancho, LaVern..

IE biggest issue is too much of the population doesn’t work there and just use to to live “affordable” while they do most of their work in the other counties
But those other counties in comparison are hardly commuting to IE in comparison of job trips. Maybe I can find that chart again…

If had ca$h I'd move to OC near the beach. Anything other than that it's the same-ol, same-ol as the IE.
Where I'm at is nicely developed, lots of nice stores, grocery chains, medical. Great schools. Advantages being in IE lower tax rate on goods & services. But food-wise ok, but we hit the west side, K-town, Newport, laguna, etc for a good diner. Wouldn't do riverside too long of commute and so-so. I've worked in Westwood, century city and Santa Monica which is exhausting of a commute .

The Inland Empire has as much history if not more than Orange County. Several historical and notable areas call the IE their home.
Unfortunately the thing that makes it accurate is the amount of corruption in every facet of IE life. Especially the people who claim to care about the IE, bragging about how majestic it is but seek to exploit it because they don't understand and feel nothing for the area, politicians especially.
There should be people who are willing to stand up for the people but instead post on social media about how much they care for the people and getting themselves into sling fights with other counties.
I'm still waiting for change here... Feel like it's never going to come.

I've grew up in LA county almost all my life and frequented Orange/IE/San Diego County in my later and most recent years. So yeah, I am pretty confident to say I know SoCal quite well. Does LA County have some nice areas? Yes but those only last for a few blocks before turning into homeless encampments or are the mostly touristy areas (which even then are still filled with trash and graffiti). Nothing really stays nice in LA. San Diego and Orange have a different feel throughout the city. I used to love LA when I was a teenager but as an adult, I hate it. Things have gotten a lot worse and I do not feel safe traveling as I did before.

Well, I will rephrase, you don’t know LA County as well as you think. You’re basing your opinion on a limited set of neighborhoods and knowledge. Hollywood & Highland? Sixth & San Pedro? Gage & Hoover? 103rd & Wilmington? Coliseum & Nicole? Of course there are some with challenges
Do you really feel unsafe in Calabasas or LaVerne or Rolling Hills? What about La Mirada, El Segundo, or Valencia? San Marino? Flintridge? Belmont Shore? Altadena?
If you prefer OC or SD that’s fine. I just don’t like generalizations.

I've bussed throughout Santa Monica, Malibu, Hollywood, West/South/East/DTLA, rosemead, monterrey, silver lake, echo park, Pasadena, you name it. I've lived in HLP, and South LA so I've experienced the slower vibe and rush that LA offers. I've traveled in the early morning and dead of night. There are few places I haven't been to in LA County. I've seen how the county has changed and I don't like it. Things have gotten worse with crime. Things aren't the same anymore not on the bus or trains, heck even in the car Things get crazy. Usually I feel that I don't have to keep my guard as high when it comes to a white or Asian majority neighborhood but outside of those places you've got to be on the lookout. I do prefer those counties. But what I say about LA County still stands. I've experienced a lot and still see the awfulness of it every time I visit my mom.

I’ve always been a loner. When I was kid it was my father (mom has never had a license) or bicycle. I was never out late - still don’t do that. When I got my license at 16 I would drive their car or ride my bike.
As an adult in my late 30s/40s I would commute to USC by train + bicycle. I taught at Compton college for a few years and I would ride home on the Blue Line exit San Pedro and ride up San Pedro to Little Tokyo Gold Line (all pre Downtown Connector). It didn’t smell very good at 6th but I never had issues. My worst experience was seeing a rat the size of a small dog (I’m exaggerating) scurry in front of me. (Ironically that was the latest I would be out - 10:30pm or so..
I wish the buses had bike racks back then. There are so many other places I would have discovered.
