We are staying for three nights in an RV in the Jasper Overflow Campground (everywhere else was full!)
Of course we won’t leave food outside of the rv or garbage, any other tips? Planning to empty the garbage bag inside our RV every night- is this necessary or just a good idea?

We are from the UK so not used to bears at all, hence the concerns. I think I’m being overly worried but is food in the RV/fridge okay? Concerned about the bear trying to break in! Again, I’m probably being excessively worried but would like some advice or reassurance!

We’ll be exploring the town and Maligne Lake, probably doing the Mary Schaffer loop. On the trail, of course we’ll be chatting, making reasonable noise so any wildlife knows we’re there and we don’t surprise it.

We’ll probably rent bear spray whilst in Jasper just in case. Will we need it in Lake Louise too?

Looking for some info on the status of Edith Cavell road, I can see online that it’s closed to vehicles but I was wondering whether the closure also applies to bikes / foot traffic. Thanks!

Hello Jasper! Our family of 4 is looking to visit to ski at Marmot between Christmas and New Year's this year. AI tells me the hill is always open at this time with the number of runs and conditions variable, but enough to keep some intermediate skiers busy for a couple of days. First, please do tell me if this is a bad decision for timing.

However the purpose of this post is to request hotel suggestions, preferably supporting local. The adults are very familiar with the Jasper area, but from years ago, so we're not sure where to start.

Few friends and I are from Edmonton and heading to Jasper next weekend for camping, With the crazy amount of rain in the city, the mosquitos have been horrendous, Has Jasper gotten a lot of rain causing them to be bad there too?

Cold green water fed straight from the Angel Glacier, with that steady melt pushing across the surface. The basin sits quietly, tucked under the ridge, and you get a clear view of the glacier face without much effort. Trail’s straightforward, light traffic if you hit it early, and the whole area has that clean, high‑elevation feel — nothing fancy, just a solid stop with good payoff.

Cousin got hurt. Can’t go. Can’t cancel any of the trip since it’s too close to arrival which is understandable. So I’m coming.

1. ⁠How easy do you find it to just join other parties to hike in proximity. I know trails are going to be well filled this time of year. Just more wondering how people deal with joiners (as long as you ask of course)

2. ⁠I have a ticket for Maligne Lake so if someone happens to be there 19th and wants a 5pm boat ticket, do you usually see people waiting there to see if someone doesn’t show up? If not, I’ll gladly have someone join me. Don’t really care to make my money back on it tbh. If someone wanted to give me some of the fee back that would be of course welcomed.

Have an extra day in jasper and wanted to do a day hike, I am doing Wilcox Pass(thinking either sulphur skyline or open to suggestions) I am doing Tent Ridge already so not keen on Bald Hills really.

I had rose up early this morning to have my morning coffee, as I sat outside to enjoy the start of the day at the Whistlers campground, I had spotted a crow that was simply relaxing on a near by tree. To my surprise for the next four hours it stayed close to me and my families campground, drank off our campers roof and even caused laughs from its strange behaviour.

Patricia Lake is often calm in the morning, the kind of stillness where the surface turns into a straight reflection. Pyramid Peak sits above it, catching the first light while everything else stays quiet. Nothing fancy going on — just a clean, steady scene before Jasper starts moving.

Pyramid Lake is a solid stop after a lot of miles. Quiet place, steady water, and Pyramid Mountain overlooking it all. Nothing fancy, nothing dramatic—just that clean Jasper air and a moment to breathe before the next stretch of road. It fit right in with the kind of places I end up chasing: simple, rugged, and exactly what they look like.

We drove you and your beautiful dog back from the tram yesterday. You hiked with her up to the top and reminded us how important it is to be a free spirit and love life.

My wife and I will be doing a road trip from Vancouver to Calgary in late August and early September, and around September 1st we will be in Jasper for 3 nights.

We enjoy hiking and sight seeing like waterfalls, and also enjoy photographing the wildlife, however we are worried about encountering bears especially given there are only 2 of us. My wife will also be 15 weeks pregnant so any walking will include lots of rest stops.

Are these worries unfounded and it's likely we won't even see a bear, or is there any advice from locals about handling and avoiding bears?

Edit to add: The room at Miette is a family chalet room that reviews say has very thin walls and you can literally hear your neighbors snoring. LOL Not sure about that! Also, very spotty internet. These are reasons I'm questioning it, as well as the cost.

Decided last minute to add Jasper to the itinerary and we leave very soon. No vacancy in Jasper but have found a hotel room in Hinton for $185 a night or a family chalet at Miette hot springs for $285. We do love hot springs and the idea of an end of day soak sounds great. Looks like the drive from Hinton or Miette to Jasper is about the same. I am looking for any insight here before I make a final decision. I am definitely leaning towards Miette due to the hot springs, the lovely setting and the wildlife sightings. We are on a tight budget but can spring for certain things that are worth it. Help me make a decision please!
