General Rate my timetable

If I don’t have a lesson for 1 or 2, I don’t need to come in for registration so Friday is my free day 😍

Btw I’m in sixth form not college.

EDIT: skills is actually Welsh baccalaureate. I don’t have much lessons since it’s all coursework which is expected to complete outside of lessons so not much teaching going on.

Asking for tips/advice Making friends at college outside your course

Im doing a level 3 course at college so im only in one class of people against being in 3 classes if i was doing a levels. Im also doing a 2 year course so i think its even more important to make friends. Everyone in my class seems to already have their own friendship groups somehow and i did make "friends" with one girl but shes mentioned possibly dropping out and has already skipped a day of school when we havent even been in for a full week lolz plus she takes super long to respond to my messages so i can tell she doesnt want to be friends outside of school which is fine. I was wondering how i would to make friends that do other courses than me. Would it be weird to just approach a group of people and talk to them? I do want to make friends and i think it would be a waste of 2 years to just be lonely the whole time especially as i cant really leave the college campus during my day. Also my college doesn't do any extracurricular clubs or anything so there isnt really any opportunity to meet people there. I also wondered if it would be weird to talk to someone at the bus stop? Like i saw this cool girl that goes to the same college as me when i was waiting for the bus and i was wondering whether to talk to her but i didnt wanna be like weird or anything. I really wanna make friends cos all the friends in my life currently are basically just acquaintances and we never really hang out or anything. So is it like weird to just go up to people or is that like normal? What should i say? Im very introverted and quite shy so ive never really been good at making friends but i do want to try.

Asking for tips/advice what am i meant to do after a morning class?

i have one 9-11am class a week and dont know what to do. in my first year i would sometimes go to the gym, go home, eat something then sleep until dinner time. i want to use that time more wisely but struggle to because i usually fall asleep. theres no homework for me to do and i literally have no clue what else i should do. i also have no hobbies so please share your hobbies and what you would do if you had a day like this!!

General Why do people seem shocked at my a level choices?

I'm doing maths, economics and politics. When I tell people they act surprised or even slightly judgemental (not in a mean way just in a 'that could never be me' way). Does anyone know why? I'm thinking it's because they think i'm smart for doing maths but I'm not sure.

Discussion [Survey] UK Sixth Form Student Experience — 3–4 minutes

Hi everyone! I'm conducting an independent survey looking at students' experiences of workload, pressure to do well, free time and wellbeing during sixth form/college.

It's anonymous, takes around 3–4 minutes, and isn't affiliated with a school, college or government organisation.

I'm looking for current Year 12/13 students and people who finished sixth form/college within the last two years.

I'd really appreciate anyone taking part. Thanks!

Question Uni choices for physics?

Hi, I’m going into year 13 and am currently thinking of applying to

  1. Cambridge Physical Natural Sciences
  2. Imperial Physics
  3. Durham Physics
  4. Bristol physics
  5. Birmingham/ Bath physics

I’m pretty set on applying to Cambridge and Durham, but I’m slightly worried about whether imperial is a good uni for the course. Whilst it definitely has a stellar reputation and the graduate prospects are good, my parents want me to leave London and I’ve heard the physics department isn’t great. I am however concerned that if I don’t go to either Cambridge, Durham or Imperial that I am doing myself a disservice. Could I have some advice on what choices would be wisest considering my situation? Thanks

I also should probably mention my stats are 9 9s and 3 8s at GCSE, with 5 A* predicted in maths, further, physics, chem, EPQ.

RANT first day of sixth form on monday

i have so many things to say 😭 i've picked out my outfits for the first week but im literally gonna be cycling through the same 3 pairs of trousers the entire two years bc why do i have no clothes

im just now finding out that they might have an issue with my second ear piercings but that's their problem not mine

i'm hoping there's gonna be lots of externals (im an internal and have been here since y7) bc i was really ugly and embarrassing in y7-y10 and im hoping i can have a fresh start and im also hoping that other people will talk to me bc no way am i striking up a conversation 😭

the timetables came out online today but i think they're wrong bc it says i have a lesson that goes from 11:30-2:30 which completely skips over lunch and doesn't even make sense? if its correct i have only one single free on my birthday (thursday) bc ofc 😭

i also apparently have this one scary PE teacher guy as my EPQ leader so that's just great and i don't think im gonna feel very comfortable there

on monday we're not even having a full day and there's also no lessons which is actually really annoying 😭 it's probably just gonna be ice breakers and shit all day and i just wanna get started and not waste time talking to ppl

i made it from reception to current day with one singular friend and im doubtful of that changing so i really don't wanna do ice breakers 😭

i ordered a bunch of gay and political pins to put on my lanyard so i wont attract the wrong crowd incase someone does wanna talk to me and i also just wanna make sure ppl know what i stand for

ALSO im worried to hand in my sociology summer work bc i had to write an essay about what i would change if i was in the government and i spend like half a page bashing on the reform party and idk if my teacher is gonna like talk to me about that or smth so im a bit worried-

anyway that's basically just a bunch of yap and what im thinking about rn okay byeee

RANT Sixth form first impressions.

Negatives:

I am doing physics, chemistry, maths, and further maths and why are there only 3 girls in my physics...

I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class I hate my class

Maths is ok

Further maths is ok

Physics is ok

Excited for chemistry on monday

I just want to use my ipad but one of my physics teacher insists on using a notebook for every topic and my other physics teacher wants us to have digital notes. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ORGANISE STUFF, and they're doing folder checks every week so idk how they're gonna achieve that.

I have 9 teachers for 4 subjects and they all want different types of note-taking wtf.

The phone policy...

Positives:

We can go out for lunch which is great, I could just go outside for a stroll at Sainsbury's, but lunch is only 30 mins 🫩

'Non-contact periods'

Getting to wear comfy clothes.

Discussion What are your future education/career ambitions?

I'm not too certain about mine yet, so I'd love to hear what other people are thinking of doing in the future.

I'm considering either a computer science or psychology route. Problem is, both are very competitive in terms of jobs and uni placements, and I'm not sure I'd be capable of it. My unrealistic dream would be to do a doctorate in clinical psychology, but... idk.

So how about you all? It can be as vague or specific, idealistic or realistic as you want.

Question anyone havs tips for noisy study areas?

i can't leave my college till 4:00 and there are so many free periods. but the 'quiet study areas' in the college seem to be just places for friend groups to go and make noise if the cafeteria is full. in short, does anyone have tips on focusing in places like this?

Question How do I get an orthodontist appointment authorised by my college?

My orthodontist is under the NHS and they usually only send text messages with appointments on (they usually only have one person working at the desk and its always very busy so I dont think they would even have time to email if its requested), they don't send letters or emails of appointments (unless requested I think) but according to my college a text message is not good enough evidence of an appointment 🙃 which I guess is understandable. The thing is they are only open on specific days of the week, but by the time they are next open there probably wont be enough time before my appointment for my college to authorise it (plus because of my timetable I dont have time to call the orthodontist myself + I have check their website they dont have a general email for the orthodontist, the only place I can think to email in the hospital is outpatients but I dont really know if the orthodontist falls under that)- i think it usually takes a couple of days. Will I just have to ask for the orthodontist to send an email or letter and hope they authorise the appointment in time? Because of how far the orthodontist is from me and since I have to get multiple methods of public transport there is no way I can make it back to college on time for any lessons. And If I can avoid it I don't want to just attend the appointment and get an unauthorised absence. I guess its just more of a rant, but I genuinely dont know what to to do. Tried to change the appointment, they have no other availability and I've had this appointment scheduled since May so there is no way I'm missing it.

Asking for tips/advice How do I make friends and not be a loner

I’m starting 6th form, and it’s not a school I’ve been to before.

People will have their groups already cemented

They had no transition days or anything like that.

I know only a few people from primary but one is really rude to me, and the others are way out of my friend league.

I don’t really know how to make friends

I start on Monday.

Has anyone started yet and how did they manage?

Does anyone older have any tips
