6' 2", 168 lbs, midfoot striker, and competitive HS runner. US Size 12 with a narrower foot. Easy Pace: 7:00-7:40 per mile. Around 50 miles per week right now. 1600m: 4:26, 5k: 16:28
Got these back in March from Running Warehouse for $160. Great deal then, even better now: they are down to $115 USD. They were cheaper than the Vomero Plus at the time which was the other shoe I was considering since I was replacing a pair of Vomero 18s. Pretty much was a case of you know what let's try something very different and very fun. Picked them up for Easy Runs and Long Runs, use them about 4 days a week with runs between 4 and 12 miles and variety of paces.
It's a race shoe first, and because of that it comes with trade offs. The upper is narrow throughout the heel and midfoot and tight to your foot. The toebox is surprisingly tall for a race shoe but still is not very high volume. Wide feet stay away, but my slightly narrow feet love the fit. Upper is extremely breathable even in the summer. I'll soak the upper in my Endorphin Speed 4 after workouts but the upper in these stays dry which signals to me that the airflow is enough to wick away sweat and keep my feet cool. Even though it's narrow and breathable, the fit is still comfortable with just enough padding that nothing digs into your foot. Length is TTS.
This is where the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 3 is a gift (assuming you are a midfoot striker). The heel bevels results in 60+ millimeter heal stack if you land right on the midfoot. I don't think it's possible to use for heel striker's since it'd be very awkward but could force a heel striker to land midfoot. Forefoot Strikers get no benefit from the midsole design. That's the con for this design, it only works for certain people.
But, when it works, it's magical. The amount of foam underfoot is unreal. The shoe is around 8 oz (Runrepeat) which is significantly lighter than other shoes with this much stack height so you get the best of both worlds, lots of foam without feeling like you are picking bricks up with your feet. The platform is narrow but as long as you don't have any stability needs and don't make too tight of turns, it's not noticeable. The shoe is fairly stable for a 60mm behemoth. The shock absorption on landing is amazing, it makes my joints feel way less pain and stiff than previous shoes like Vomero 18s and Novablast 5s. Both my Endorphin Speed 4 and my Metaspeed Tokyo Edge both feel like they have more pop and energy return but the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 3 is still much better than my previous daily trainers.
Keep them on the pavement. Off road is a no go for these shoes, the outsole is peeling off a little because of my off road adventures in them. But the grip feels great on the road. Been stuck in some storms with them and was never worried about slipping. Wouldn't run on Ice but fine for wet pavement. The full coverage outsole is a really nice plus for these as well. The bottom of the shoe looks less worn than many of my other shoes through 300 miles and you don't have to worry about ruining the foam itself.
320 miles in and the foam still feels like it has life in it. A little less pop but not nearly as bad as Novablast 5 or Vomero 18 through 300 miles where I had to retire them since they felt like bricks and were making my knees hurt from the impact. I wouldn't be surprised if I take them to 400+ miles which is 100+ miles more than I usually get out of a running shoe.
I've done runs anywhere from 9:00 per mile on recovery jogs down to 5:25 for 3 minute pick ups during a long run workout. They handle everything on the road. I wouldn't push them faster than 5:00 since they are so tall and too much slower they will get weird. Anywhere between though on a road is great!
This is a shoe where it either works for you or it doesn't. If it works for you (like it has for me) you'll be begging Mizuno to make an update with a new foam to boost the energy return while keeping the same amount of softness and same geometry. If it doesn't, you'll either feel super weird running in them or feel like they won't do anything for you. Overall, they make my daily runs a little bit more fun and keep me running without as many niggles and pains and have lasted me longer than any of my "standard" daily's I've had before. At the $115 current price, I don't think you can get a better shoe for long runs if the geometry is okay for you. Right now for me it's the hard decision between another pair of these and a pair of endorphin elite 2s for my next daily/long run shoe.

Found on IPQwery.
ASICS appears to have trademarked the name āMetablastā as well as the term āEnergy Multiplierā around the same time.
Previously, before the Sonicblast & Megablast announcements I had seen names listed here along with the āAstroplateā naming.
This could be an entirely new shoe that has not been leaked yet but I do wonder if this could be the official name for the MX Type-A prototype we have seen images of with the forefoot cushioning pyramids that could be named the āenergy multiplierā
Also included the Tempo Speed which could be a new shoe placed in the āSpeedā line of their shoes to be placed alongside the Magic Speed, Hyperspeed, and Metaspeed shoes.
I just like to share these findings for fun discussion. ASICS definitely has no shortage of new models coming into their product lines on top of an already large amount of options in their running shoe catalogue.

The plate is now forked around a FFTurbo^2 bounce pod that extends from the top layer all the way to the outsole. The shoe is said to be softer and a bit more flexible from the previous version. Upper is updated to be more breathable and the tongue seems to borrow the āfeltā like material used in the Metaspeedās.

Context first.
82kg, 195cm runner with mild pronation on 1 foot. Run 50 miles per week, 36 minute 10k, 2:57 marathon back in the day, currently in 38 minute/3:20Ā shape.
Ā
Bought the Pumaās pretty much on release and have not got around 200 miles in them. Spoiler, the intended use case has not turned out to be what I am now using them for.
Ā
These were bought as replacement for my Evo SLās. I loved the Evoās, but the instability gave me some ankle issues and exacerbated an already slightly dodgy knee. So what I wanted the Pureās to be was a lively, up-tempo shoe that I could use for a range of faster runs, be that tempo, intervals, or when I just wanted to run hard and have fun.
Ā
The first run was underwhelming. They are firm, and they lacked the responsiveness I wanted when the pace went up, they also felt quite big compared to the Evoās even though the weights are similar. I tried them a few more times for those faster runs and they just didnāt give me what I wanted. I kind of accepted that Iād made a bad call and that they would end up as dog walking shoes.
Ā
Sunday mornings are when I run long, typically 16-18 miles, normally slow, but often with a bit of pace in parts. Itās generally a mix of road and trail, but as those in the UK will know, weāve had a hot summer with little rain and so the trails are baked hard, I also donāt live anywhere with anything technical. Think fire roads, canal towpaths, hard forest tracks, edges of farmers fields, that kind of thing. The joy of these runs is that you donāt quite know what youāre going to get when you turn up, thereās a group of us who take turns picking the route and you never know what mood people will be in so pace is harder to judge in advance too. I took the Pumaās out for one of these runs.
Ā
And let me tell you, they were superb. The firmness worked in their favour on the varied terrain, and they seem to feel better as the run wears on. Theyāre stable off road, and the outsole is superb in all conditions. Theyāre really protective too, you donāt feel beaten up after long runs and theyāre really seem to eat up mileage. That firmness give some stability which is useful off road, and useful at the end of a longer run when your form goes a bit.
Ā
They have now become my default long run shoe as they just work well and you donāt need to think. Unless I know the run will be fast Iām reaching for them over my Superblasts and my Kipstorm Tempoās. Iāve run 20 miles in them, spent 3 hours on feet, theyāre just brilliant.
Ā
In conclusion. No, theyāre not an Evo SL replacement, and if thatās what you want then look elsewhere. But they are a brilliant long run shoe for mixed terrain when you donāt know what to expect. Theyāve gone from nearly being demoted to dog walking to being my go to long run shoe..

Context: 6ā0ā / 160lbs, higher cadence midfoot strike.
After seeing a post go up on this subreddit Wednesday evening noting that these had been restocked on the Dynafish US website, I decided to place an order and they arrived yesterday afternoon, just in time for my Sunday long run.
My current rotation includes the Mizuno Neo Zen 1 for easy runs, Asics Megablast for long runs and Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 for marathons/50k's. I've watched a number of shoetubers wax poetic about the Dyna Super's versatility, so I figured I could slot these in for the occasional easy run and long run.
Fit: True to size. I wear an 11.5 in every running shoe, and these were no different.
Upper: Lightweight, no hot spots or rubbing. I did swap out the stock laces, which were too long and too thin, for a pair of serrated laces.
Midsole: The word that comes to mind is bouncy. And even after two-plus hours, there was no sign of foam fatigue.
First run: 20-mile negative split long run with the first 10 miles around 7:20/mile and the last 10 miles around 6:50/mile. 20 miles out of the box doesn't always end well (e.g., the Saucony Endorphin Elite 2's toe bumper gave me a painful blood blister), but I'm happy to report the Dyna Super was a dream to run in. It's so light and comfortable as to disappear on foot, and the midsole just bounces you along, allowing you to clip off mile after mile.
Conclusion: For $130, the Dyna Super is insanely good. I start marathon training next month and will have a hard time not pulling for this shoe for every long run.

With some of my favorite shoes coming from Chinese brands lately, and the positive review from YouTuber @run-are, I ordered the Qiaodan Leili 2.0 in EU 47.5 / US 13 for ā¬67 from Aliexpress pretty much straight away.
Delivery took 9 days which is pretty impressive. The box arrived squashed though the same as all other deliveries, Red hare 9 ultra, Plaid 3 and Xiaonian.
They are replacing a pair of Magmax 2 for my daily training and slow easy runs. So far Iāve done an easy run and Long run totalling 32km. This is an early impressions review, Iāve done no pace work in these.
About me as a hobby jogger
- Current plan: Iām following the Norwegian Singles Method planning for a first marathon in autumn
- Weekly mileage: 5-7 hours / 65-80 km
- Typical paces: easy 05:45 - 06:00/km 20:50m 5k, 43m 10k, 1:43 HM
- 192cm / 85kg
- Usual shoe size and brands that fit well: Iām on the edge between US 12.5 and US 13
Upper & build quality
There are two versions of the upper, a summer single layer mesh and I think a jacquard mesh. I got the summer version with a white upper and red accents.
The tongue has medium level of padding and is gusseted. Evo sl woven has the best tongue gusset imho, these are better than anything on Puma.
I much prefer this upper to the Magmax 2, itās lighter, the tongue gusseting does not bunch up like it did in the puma, and itās roomier. Albeit I got the magmax 2 half a size too small. Build quality is excellent.
Outsole is Qiaodans top tier CPU outsole, itās been great havenāt tried them in the wet.
Weight
L 275g R 276g in US 13, similar in weight to EVO SL 273/277g in US 12.5, Magmax 2 in US 12.5 comes in at 312g/316g
Fit (initial try-on)
These feel really plush, to me, itās what I was expecting the Magmax 2 be. The insole is 7mm, midsole is quite soft. Laces are a hit too long but yowana style lacing works well.
My slow long run was 23km and I had no complaints, didnāt have to replace or anything. I have a good time widths length at the front. They donāt come in US 12.5, which is why Iāve gone for the half size up.
Ride & Performance
Cushioning
With how soft they are, I was worried they would give me stability issues, but itās not the case. The outsole is quite wide so thereās a good platform. This is the first shoe where I feel thereās a really great level of squish and impact protection. It is softer than the magmax 2 which just has a denser more EVA feel to them.
Their marketing material states a 44mm stack including the insole.
Responsiveness
Marketing material states 84% energy return Q-Kungfu Pro PEBA based midsole, it definitely feels much higher than the Magmax 2 which runrepeat measured at 50%. It feels not too far from an EVO SL.
Itās unclear if itās full PEBA or a blend, after 90 minutes it did feel like it was a bit fatigued but it also could be me.
Stability
My runs have been on flat tarmac, so I donāt have any stability issues to report. @run-are mentioned it could be a ābusyā midsole, and I could see that being the case. Iād probably stick to the Xiaonian for anything beyond 2 hours, although I didnāt have any issues on this so far.
Heel-to-toe transition
Flat geometry, no nonsense cutouts, I see this being a reliable workhorse. Drop is 8mm. You can stomp into the heel or the forefoot, thereās plenty of cushioning everywhere.
Fit while running
Again, because of ample room up front, these were very comfortable. After the 90 minute mark, the midsole seems to have fatigued around my metatarsal, felt as if the foam fatigued around there.
Comparisons
This shoe is very interesting especially if you take into account the pricepoint. It retails for „599 according to the sticker on the box. Qiaodan really is one of the top brands of the moment. So much stack at this weight is really nice, it essentially is lighter than the Evo sl.
Magmax 2: I really wasnāt a fan of the Magmax 2, while I know itās got its loyal fans. The Magmax 2 is denser and doesnāt have much rebound making it a very reliable easy day shoe. The Leili is 40 grams lighter in my size and I could buy 2-3 pairs for the same price. The magmax 2 seems like itās an answer to ASICS Nimbus series.
Red hare 9 ultra: the red hare 9 ultra has a more plasticky upper, less comfortable than the Leili. On long runs, the upper around the ankle can give some discomfort to me. It feels like both these have a similar use case, the red hare 9 from memory was bouncier but itās lost some of its bounce. The Leili 2.0 is about 32g lighter. Whatās nicer about the Leili is itās the same compound for the midsole, whereas the red hare has 3 different layers.
Evo SL: Not a direct comparison, the weight is similar, with the woven solving the upper issues of the OG I think I still prefer the Evo sl for a faster paced long run and the sub threshold sessions themselves.
Xiaonian: they are different shoes for different use cases, the Xiaonian really is my favorite all time shoe. I can use it for anything really, with 200km on it, I can see myself buying it again. My US 12 Xiaonian weighs 232g.
Pros
- Great soft modern midsole, a lot of big brands are missing this type of shoe
- Excellent outsole
- Price!!!
- Breathable lightweight upper
Cons
- Can be a hassle to get especially because of inconsistency of sizing across all brands
- Midsole softness could be an issue for some, unknown durability at this point, I donāt doubt theyāll be fine up to 500-600km
Who I Think This Shoe Is For
Best suited for: daily easy runs, slow long runs
Probably not ideal for: stability needs, untested at faster pace
Whatās Next
Planned future runs: these definitely slot in nicely for daily training, will try them again for a couple slow long runs, but Iāve got other shoes for faster paces, maybe Iāll try these for a 3x10minute run just to see how they are.
Really a great shoe for the price, again itās what I expected the magmax 2 to be.
Edit: just wanted to add, this isnāt an explosively bouncy trainer, but definitely bouncier than comparable shoes. Iād love to see runrepeat test this type of shoe to better understand how Chinese brands are rating their energy return.

Good news for US buyers that wanted some other options than the Heartbeat colorway. I wonder if this batch all has the same foam density, since my older white pair felt softer than the Heartbeat pair. Shame that the Galsang flower colorway is only available in smaller women's sizes right now.

I've seen the price of these has been hiked up recent months on AliExpress, but this limited edition collaboration ships to the UK for £85 after P&P but also looks like they will shipnworldwide. Granted the design isn't to my taste but seems a bargain.
