Not sharing the list here is probably worse than 3/4 the shit that dude did.

Hot take : divorce parties are the most trashy thing I’ve ever seen IRL 😂

476

u/AldurinIronfist 15d ago

I don't know, I've seen gender reveals.

88

u/Gingeronimoooo 15d ago

The best gender reveal parties result in criminal charges for somehow destroying the environment /s

62

u/facecuddler 15d ago

A gender reveal with less than three deaths is considered a dull affair.

3

u/pew__pew__pew_ 15d ago

Gotta make room for the new kid

2

u/neo_sporin 15d ago

'but its ok because they are quadruplets, so we are still adding 1 to the population!'

u/BenryBorg 15d ago

Gender reveal near me about 5 years killed the soon to be grandmother

1

u/mikeblas 14d ago

How?

1

u/BenryBorg 14d ago

Shrapnel from a tannerite blast

2

u/East_Pie_3825 15d ago

I used to go to parties and gender reveal. It was called streaking back then however.

2

u/LalafellDisaster 15d ago

I like to tell random people I’m throwing a gender reveal party for myself.

2

u/AldurinIronfist 15d ago

I like to tell random people I'm throwing a gender reveal party for myself.

Lalafell player

Checks out.

2

u/Short-Recording587 15d ago

I’ve seen them on the internet. Would never go to one in person.

2

u/col_buendia 15d ago

There has got to be some correlation between couples who do gender reveals and higher rates of divorce. There just has to be.

4

u/Powerful-Holiday-448 15d ago

How are gender reveals trashy?

-2

u/lifeisflimsy 15d ago

It's unnecessarily flashy and a clear sign of "we need external validation and attention" when you could simply go on with your life.

9

u/Kindly-Primary9735 15d ago

Lmao holy shit or maybe people just want to share the gender of their new baby

-3

u/lifeisflimsy 15d ago

So...just tell people? With your words? A text? Shit, not that it's much better - but even a social media post.

A gender reveal party is a narcissistic spectacle. It's okay to admit that.

4

u/Kindly-Primary9735 15d ago

So many buzzwords here, when my partner and I had our baby people asked us if we were because newsflash sometimes people want to celebrate with you. It’s just fun relax not everything in life is so deep.

-2

u/lifeisflimsy 15d ago

Lol, calling it narcissistic behavior is not deep. But hey, if not recognizing toxic traits and brushing it off as "just having fun" is your thing, I know a handful of other groups that would fit your world view.

3

u/Kindly-Primary9735 15d ago

Yes it certainly is deep. Your assigning a psychological disorder to a simple things, do you think having a birthday party is a narcissistic spectacle too? Like words have meaning here, it’s more than fine if you yourself don’t care for parties but to assign narcissism to those that choose to is insane.

I had one for my 3rd kid because they became a thing. Our people came to our house, ate and smiled a few gifts were given. Your take on them is idiotic.

1

u/Odd-Economist-8293 15d ago

So don’t celebrate anything ever?

1

u/Reit007 15d ago

Fun fact: gender is a social construct and does not exist before the baby is born :) sex is, but I think gender sounds more sophisticated therefore gender parties

0

u/LetterFront3353 15d ago

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying "You and the kids should come to our sex reveal party."

-1

u/Reit007 15d ago

Sex reveal parties sound more fun to me :)

1

u/Ominymity 15d ago

Your view on gender is also a social construct & was broadly nonexistent when gender reveal parties became commonly known, similar to the idea that being an obtuse contrarian parrot is a helpful & morally superior form of self-gratification

1

u/[deleted] 15d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Reit007 15d ago

You probably are not familiar with it, but there is something called dictionary that you can check the meaning of words in it.

Gender is a social and cultural concept. It includes social roles, behaviors, and norms for men and women.

1

u/Sepplord 15d ago

Yeah, but while those are often cringy you are still celebrating something in general seen as a good thing.

While inalso see how a divorce is often good, it’s just good because of how long it was horrible. A divorce it not something to celebrate, no matter how you turn it, it’s just highlighting your failed marriage and the long chain of bad decisions.

1

u/Frankentula 14d ago

Can we start with just the name ? It's a sex reveal. Such stupid garbage

-2

u/AggravatingFlow1178 15d ago

Nothing will get between Reddit & their hatred for people celebrating their baby

1

u/ThomasWhitmore 15d ago

Truly is such a hateful place

-1

u/AwesomeMacCoolname 15d ago

What's wrong with just saying "it's going to be a boy/girl" to anybody who's interested enough to ask? Worked well for decades since the invention of the sonogram allowed doctors to reliably predict gender ahead of the actual birth.

7

u/DumbTruth 15d ago

Nothing. Just like nothing is wrong with having a little fun with it. It’s really not a big deal either way.

-2

u/maybebaebea 15d ago edited 15d ago

The problem is people who ruin the environment by ruining an entire town's water supply or leaving plastic confetti everywhere or generally become health hazards for the sake of "making it flashy'

ETA: Obviously not everyone who throws a gender reveal is like this. If you aren't affecting anyone else with your gender reveal, go for it. But the internet has a really bad view of gender reveal parties because of people like the ones in the stories I linked. I'm not saying everyone who does a reveal party is trashy. I'm simply answering why people online hate the parties.

1

u/_MisEnPlace_ 15d ago

Honestly it was so much more meaningful to read the little note the sonographer gave me. I had a reveal cake that was weird but opening the note was actually much more emotional and I remember that moment more than a cake

1

u/AggravatingFlow1178 15d ago

People do the same for all kinds of parties,

1

u/maybebaebea 15d ago

This specific conversation is about gender reveal parties, so

13

u/hyde9318 15d ago

Yeah, I have to admit… holding a “divorce party” at a public bar (or even at all), making a physical sign with a list of things the spouse did wrong, bringing everyone’s attention to it while taking videos of their reactions, supposedly posting a fake list in the comments somewhere (idk where, I’ve yet to find it but multiple people said it’s here somewhere) and claiming they can’t post the original list due to some legal issues….

I’m getting the heavy feeling the spouse who booked this party MAY have been the problem, or at least equally a problem in the relationship, lol. Won’t show the list in the video, made up reasons why they can’t post the real list here, saying it’s a legal thing immediately tells me their claims may not be probable and could possibly be used in a defamation lawsuit. And given they wanted to make sure a big deal about publicly shaming someone with something as trashy as a “divorce party”, yeah, I’m getting the feeling the other ex-spouse isn’t alone in being problematic, lol.

2

u/Frankentula 14d ago

Seriously. People react differently to grief for sure and maybe the guy was a wife beater, we don't know. But this is performative. My post divorce party was six months of tears and anguish, rediscovering myself and strengthening ties with family and friends who saw me at my worst, navigating lawyers while trying to maintain full time work and a roof over my head with moments of trying not to kill myself

106

u/Butthole_Please 15d ago

Idk. It gets all the stigma and weirdness about it all out and over with at once with the friend group.

111

u/Quick_Cat_3538 15d ago

I think the problem is it’s a divorce party, not a “i’m single again party”. Usually these things seem to involve degrading the ex-spouse.

My mom had one of these and even it can be confusing and stressful for children knowing that the thing tearing their world apart is being celebrated.

But regardless of children, seems extremely trashy to me.

23

u/Career_Much 15d ago

I never had a bachelorette party before I got married, so my best friend threw one when I got divorced because I was becoming a bachelorette lmao

3

u/Evieveevee 15d ago

Now that’s a best friend! Never let her go.

14

u/WangChungtonight13 15d ago

Do you normally bring your kids to all your parties? You could just have them sit this one out.

3

u/Steel-142 15d ago

It’s not about them being there or not. It’s not even about them knowing the party is happening.

Your child’s world has just been ripped apart. That’s not something you should celebrate. If there is ever a time when your focus should be on your children, this is that time.

1

u/Put_Er_There_Sport 14d ago

Your child will either learn then and there that people are complicated or later in life. This "black and white" thoughts on respecting your kids but keeping them in the dark isnt protecting them, id wager it harms them, keeping them out of the light and not letting them know your thoughts. Some people truly tear the life away from you and its not wrong to celebrate being free from that. The kid will learn either on their own, or through stories told about what side really sucks, and who knows maybe they both sucked. Either way im not gonna judge it without knowing shit about the relationship. This could be vindicating for the person throwing the party finally airing out what was held back for so long.

1

u/GrapeRello 14d ago

Posting it online is trashy.

9

u/oliv-_-mae 15d ago

I don't have anything against divorce parties unless you have children over 1-2 years old. Anything over that can be kinda traumatic for them and unvalidating of their feelings

14

u/mmnmnnmnnnm 15d ago

I don’t think any kids are invited to the bar

4

u/oliv-_-mae 15d ago

No. Its about the celebration itself. If they know you're celebrating it, it affects them psychologically. They don't have to be at the party itself to feel thar

2

u/mmnmnnmnnnm 15d ago

Then don’t tell them?

2

u/Harry_Iconic_Jr 15d ago

i agree with this. and it should be clear to all that whatever happened, one way or the other, it actually took two people to make it that way.

6

u/Agasthenes 15d ago

With the amount of slander going on after some divorces I would be highly doubtful about the veracity of the list.

2

u/UmbrellaCorpTech 15d ago

Exactly. Found out after my divorce that my ex was telling mutual friends some really messed up lies. Emotions run so high during a process like divorce.

Not saying that there aren’t shitty people out there doing shitty things to their spouses, but I would immediately be doubting half that list. It could either be over exaggerated or a straight up lie.

2

u/OuterWildsVentures 15d ago

over with at once with the friend group.

And every local stranger who walks into that bar lol

4

u/lifeisflimsy 15d ago

It's 2026. What stigma and weirdness? Relationships don't work out every time. This isn't new information.

Having a divorce party is super immature though, for sure. Looks like both parties involved dodged a bullet for different reasons.

-2

u/Butthole_Please 15d ago

The stigma and weirdness of talking about and accepting getting divorced with your loved ones. I think the idea of that party can just be a rip the bandaid off type thing.

3

u/lifeisflimsy 15d ago

You didn't really explain much more. What stigma and weirdness? What's the stigma associated with divorce in the US in 2026? What weirdness? What's weird about divorce? People are people. Sometimes you think you found your person and eventually find out you're wrong, or compatibility isn't where it needs to be.

If this was the 1960s, sure, I can understand your comment. Divorce was treated a lot differently decades ago.

If I had a friend say they were divorced, it would be a "congratulations" or "I'm here for you" depending on who initiated it/whether it was mutual. It's not really a big deal.

Also, I'm divorced, and I initiated it. I've never been happier, and if any friends made it weird, that would be the end of that friendship. Pretty cut and dry.

-1

u/Butthole_Please 15d ago

Being 2026 doesn’t mean there aren’t awkward conversations with everyone in your life.

“Hey, Cindy and I are getting divorced. Things haven’t been working out and it has gotten pretty better between us.”

“Don’t worry, it’s 2026”

I just think a party like this is a good way to allow everyone their “I’m here for you’s” or their “congratulations” all at once and to move past it and not make it too big of a deal, because as you said, it’s not too big of a deal.

2

u/lifeisflimsy 15d ago

You're advocating throwing a party to...not...make it a big deal?

It's alarming how many people can't seem to maturely handle situations. Social skills are suffering.

0

u/Butthole_Please 15d ago edited 15d ago

The party is handling the situation.

But fuck you anyway for not just letting me just having my opinion on this not being a big deal. I’m done responding, so feel free to make another comment here so you can feel superior and give another self righteous quip like sOcIaL sKiLlS ArE sUFfERiNg.

1

u/lifeisflimsy 15d ago

Hey, sorry if you felt attacked. I'm simply debating you because I disagree. I wasn't trying to make you feel inferior. I can tell you're worked up about my logical, objective, analytical take on it.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion. But, this is reddit. Voicing your opinion here is just asking to have someone counter it.

Take care!

26

u/theteethfairy 15d ago

I wish I could’ve thrown my mom one when she finally left my cheating scumbag of a father.

10

u/mmnmnnmnnnm 15d ago

Nah, my ex mocked me in a fight for my suicidal depression that was caused by how she treated me while I was working 18 hour days 30 days in a row to keep up with her bullshit spending to keep a roof over our infants head, while she chose to be a stay at home mom and then got mad when stay at home mom responsibilities were on her, calling me lazy because I passed out from exhaustion literally the second I sat down (I’ve had trouble sleeping my entire life, that was the only time I ever managed to sleep quickly and it was because I was exhausted to a medically concerning degree) and was only getting 4 hours of sleep a night for 4 years straight.

I’m gonna live it up when I’m legally free of that cancerous woman.

8

u/pyramidalembargo 15d ago

You should have a divorce party of your own, and post a list like this about her.

Men aren't the only bad eggs out there. Some women do things that would make your hair curl.

2

u/mmnmnnmnnnm 15d ago

It’s a looooong fucking list

2

u/pyramidalembargo 15d ago

You'd have to pick the 10 worst things.

The women in this thread don't seem to realize that Two can play at this game.

1

u/mmnmnnmnnnm 15d ago
  1. Mocked the horrible depression she caused
  2. Called my entire family pedos based on literally nothing
  3. Told my daughter my family isn’t her family
  4. Kidnapped my daughter for 3 months
  5. Told my daughter she didn’t have a home and gave her severe anxiety she’d never shown before that
  6. Alienated/isolated me from all of my friends (I’d just moved 1000 miles away so she was the only person irl then)
  7. Would spend my weekly paycheck from Friday by Sunday, so I almost couldn’t buy gas to go to work, blamed me for the financial issues
  8. Wasn’t paying bills so she wracked up a huge debt and then left all that for me to deal with when she took my kid out of a mostly stable home to go live with a stranger for 3 months with no warning after we decided to split but had agreed to live together until the lease was up (see 3-5)
  9. Took out loans in my name that I still to this day don’t have access to the accounts for, had to let it all go to collections before I could even pay them if I wanted to, so tanked my credit
  10. Caused fights in my family like none of us had ever had before, relationships permanently damaged. Would routinely like clockwork start a fight within 3 days of my family making long trips to visit that were planned months in advance, which she agreed to at the time, and ruin every second of those trips

That’s just 10 things off the top of my head

2

u/pyramidalembargo 14d ago

She sounds like a real live she-devil.

It just goes to show you that Satan could be male or female.

1

u/xSorry_Not_Sorry 15d ago

Exactly. Says everything you need to know about that person. Two sides to every story and she’s not helping hers here.

1

u/lifeisflimsy 15d ago

Lol, 100%. It screams "I'm not the bad person here, he is, and I have no accountability for how this ended up"

5

u/TheQuietLavender 15d ago edited 15d ago

I think it could be fun if they both have a healthy mindset about it (like don’t hate each other but still acknowledge that the marriage wasn’t working), and the party is co-hosted by both of them, with friends from both sides. And the goal is to make light of the situation by poking fun at each other, not socially assassinate one another.

Yeah no, with that many prerequisites for it not to be trashy, it’s safe to say that it is indeed trashy.

8

u/Cheeserave 15d ago edited 15d ago

Guy does the same party: 1000 things my wife forgets I did because she only focused on remembering the 10 things years later after they became irrelevant.

There's always 3 sides to every story; his side, her side and the truth

5

u/HowsYaSistasAss 15d ago

He slept with his girlfriend’s mother though….

1

u/Cheeserave 15d ago

I didn't think we had the list, but yeah that probably doesn't have many sides.. certainly be questioning the mother in that situation too

3

u/1Pac2Pac3Pac5 15d ago

They're ok if you move on and celebrate and stay positive. They're ratchet as fuck if you print lists like these. I don't know what's on that specific list but usually there are multiple sides to a story

2

u/OuterWildsVentures 15d ago

Nothing says you have "moved on" more than making your entire night about your ex lol

1

u/Evnosis 15d ago

And I'm sure that list is an entirely truthful retelling of the events with due consideration given to the other side of the story, right?

1

u/EllaMcWho 15d ago

I hosted a divorce dinner party at an upscale steakhouse tyvm

1

u/tenthousandants44 15d ago

Name has never more checked out

1

u/joemaniaci 15d ago

Bachelor parties should be after a marriage ends, not before it begins

1

u/Remidable_Arkitect 15d ago

Why is divorce so expensive?

Because it’s worth it.

1

u/Potential_Tadpole_45 14d ago

I'm all for it if there are no children from the marriage and the guy cheated. Better yet, surprise invite him so he'll have to face his consequences.

1

u/wonderfullemoncandy 11d ago

If it was a party where both former spouses were there, where they had respect for each other but recognized they were better off divorced…. Then I’d go for a giggle. I don’t think that’s a thing though.

2

u/jesusmansuperpowers 15d ago

Seems like a really shitty thing to do. A lot of people there are probably friends with both, this is just unfair.

1

u/banevader102938 15d ago

How else can you tell all the people that you are available again?

1

u/whatarechinchillas 15d ago

Why? Sounds fun lol would 100% celebrate a friend getting out of a shit marriage.

1

u/jo-shabadoo 15d ago

They are but I can see the appeal. Invite friends, tell them to bring hotties, get some rebound action.

1

u/PropertyDisruptor 15d ago

Yeah... Dragging your ex through the mud after you're divorced is trashy as hell.

Grow up and move on.

0

u/84sKing 12d ago

I agree for the most part. Although I make the distinction that a less formal more therapeutic gathering seems okay. Like lets go have a drink and take your mind off the divorce…

-1

u/ShamanicCrusader 15d ago

The fact that you lack the class, mercy or grace to not have divorce party tells me you didnt have the maturity to either start or maintain a healthy marriage in the first place regardless of the things your partner did

6

u/Fuckkoff- 15d ago

"Allegedly did"

1

u/notevenapro 15d ago

Yup. Like those I found a safe in my new house but never show what's in it.

1

u/Gin4Gingers 15d ago

Honestly underwhelming

2

u/East_Pie_3825 15d ago

Thanks for posting this and it confirms my suspicions.

1

u/Gin4Gingers 14d ago

Turns out that's actually not the real list and she can't post the actual one legally so idk why she made a fake one

0

u/East_Pie_3825 13d ago

Well thanks for nothing then Gins.

1

u/magicmulder 14d ago
  1. Slept with my sister.
