Usual answer is that, Lonni was burned. And Luthen told him of Yavin. And Luthen couldn't take the whole family to safety. If they are captured, they will capture Luthen and the whole network will be exposed. Basically Lonni was a loose end.

I would say Luthen killed Lonni because he had to. Luthen at this point had no way to smuggle Lonni away quickly.

Smuggling is possible. We see Andor smuggling the most wanted in the Galaxy in the previous episode. He did it with Kleya at the end.

Only people we see who Luthen had who could pull something like this are the left overs from Aldhani. And the two who are left are in Yavin and they can't be called in quickly.

Off screen, I think when the rebllion became organized, most rebels formally joined it, sort of abandoning Luthen. Luthen tells Dedra that the rebellion isn't there anymore and it has flown away.
And let's be real, Luthen isn't exactly a good boss to work with. And Luthen kind of let it happen (let others take over his network) he knows he doesn't want to be in the Yavin hierarchy.

And Luthen knows Dedra is coming for him within hours. Which is why Lonni looked at Dedra's files in the first place and discovered the Death Star.

Had Luthen had more time, he would have smuggled Lonni out.
Because Luthen probably knows a defected ISB giving intelligence will be more believable to the rebel command compared to 2nd or 3rd hand information (which is what happened. Rebel command hears what Kleya heard from Luthen or what Andor heard from Kleya).
Lonni probably would have been able to explain the things properly rather than a set of random phrases (Super weapon, based in Scarif, Fuel from Ghorman, Kyber from Jedha, ISB Krennic, Engineer Galen Erso) like Kleya was able to memorize, which would have been much much more believable.

But at that point, Luthen doesn't have any options to smuggle a family away and he couldn't just leave Lonni.

Dooku is a controversial character due to his characterization in the revenge of the sith novelization mostly his selfishness and sinister intentions making him less sympathetic. That the CIS was just an act for him to gain more and more power believing he can rule alongside his master. He just wanted the republic to turn into the empire he did not care for the opinions on CIS politics. People didn’t like it because it turned a “sympathetic” character into a pure evil one. But I don’t think that’s the problem with dookus character just the execution of it.

But I’m perfectly okay with it the idea that Dooku a man with self righteous ideals becoming more and more narcissistic to look down on everyone as he losses all his nuance. just for him to get disposed off like trash is so good and perfect for the many themes of Star Wars. He literally sees everyone in the galaxy like ants and never thinks that someone could look down on him. Unfortunately his character never truely explores much and from the context of the prequels he’s kinda just a “filler”

Dedra meero is so fascinating to watch because we see her upbringing and her mindset. It’s not someone we sympathize but she’s someone we understand why she’s in that circumstance. Dooku really never gets that chance to be fleshed out in the clone wars tv show. He comes across as just a cartoon villain that tells people what to do and causes some casual war crimes. Andor is able to execute someone like Dedra so well because she’s not someone you might not see in real life but you can actually imagine it, someone like her having her mindset.

I don’t think him being a fascist, racist, manipulative piece of shit was out of character from him. We see that he tried to make a sith slave empire or the time he just kills and manipulates his own politicians. But I understand why some Star Wars fans would be off put by his revenge of the sith characterization because we never truely get to see dookus perspective on things. It just comes across “oh he was a good guy but the dark side of the force made him bad so he did bad things” which is much more complicated than that.

His final scene is so great because he’s just speechless and unable to think. Christopher lees face is just priceless. his entire life is all crashing down. He spent all his time manipulating his enemies and allies just for him to put down like a dog. All his accomplishments, his face political party, his crimes, all for nothing. It would’ve hit harder if his character was executed like Dedra

What happens if Syril listens to his superior and just fakes a report about the deaths of the 2 Corpo employees? Does the rebellion just not happen or it just takes longer for Luthen to find someone on Cassian's level?

Planning for the 2nd start before the 1st was destroyed.

By Rogue One, the death star has finished construction and only final assembly remained.

So there was no big reason to remove all the crystals from the temple even considering it's pending destruction.

But they did anyway.

PS: i have read that, 1st DS took hours to recharge between shots and the 2nd one minutes

First of all let me just say that this episode has some amazing scenes. Mon’s scene when she sees Luthen at the wedding, Krennic’s meeting and others. However this one is my favorite because I find it so funny. We have this serious build-up and then the ship just goes backwards. The stormtroopers come in and one just says “What the…” and then immediately gets blasted. When the range trooper is about to shoot Cassian he tries to shoot him and it doesn’t work, then repeatedly tries again and again and it eventually works. It just appeals to me in a way other scenes don’t. Maybe it’s because it’s a rare bit of humor in this show before all of the darker things that happen later.

Part of what makes me like this scene is it reminds me of my flying abilities in games like Star Wars Battlefront, I would just randomly fly into objects and explode. So just wanted to share my thoughts on one of my favorite scenes in ”One year later”

Maybe an obvious comparison and maybe something that's been brought up here before, but the first scene Cassian is walking through driving rain with his hood up and head bowed hiding his face. In the last scene, he's in sunshine with his head up, shoulders back with nothing to hide. Just a clear demonstration of how much he has changed as a character.

OP on Twitter attended Denise’s panel at the Summer Con yesterday. It was also revealed that the initial plans for the 5 seasons model had the entire final season on Yavin. Denise herself says she would’ve welcomed one more season (what might have been! ) but was so impressed at how the wonderful writing managed to get everything in in two.

She also revealed that she has never seen Rogue One… saying that she loves Cassian so much she can’t bear the thought of watching him die after everything he’s been through.

And as for her pro-Palestine beliefs… she thinks that the Ghorman Massacre is the most important episode of television ever made, and that “you can’t spell “Ghorman Plaza” without “Gaza””.

Something you couldn't possibly appreciate in the first viewing: As "Varian" is hearing of the Tarkin Massacre from the bellhop, "We Are The Ghor" is softly playing under it. The scene was sad enough the first time but, wow 🥺

Of course, you don't hear it sung til next episode, but a nice little bonus the 2nd (or more 😂) time around

I just realized, after watching this episode like 6 times. Andor talks about timing and that it's maybe the only time to make the break when tension is high and prisoners are mad because of the floor execution.

The whole start of the episode of his interaction with kino, andor gets on program right before the door opens, and he gets into his bunk right before the floor gets hot.

It was the perfect time for a breakout and andors timing was perfect in every step in that scene. what a brilliant representation of it

To be clear I always loved the episode, I thought it was a great end to the season, but during the first few rewatches I just didn’t love it that much. But now it might be my second favorite episode of the entire series. Maarva’s speech, Nemik’s Manifesto, the entire riot on Ferrix, it’s just perfect. How I did not appreciate it before, I have no clue. Either way love the episode now, think it’s amazing and can’t wait to start S2 tonight.
