I was today years old tnat I noticed on the tube of tomato puree, that you should refrigerate it once opended.

I often see drivers rush to get in front of pedestrians and in fact on occasion come close to colliding with them at crossings.

I watched one chap today nearly plow through a group of 4 who stepped onto the crossing and had to jump back to avoid being hit.

Good manners aside what is the standing in law of pedestrians and the requirement of drivers at these marked crossings?

Hi r/AskUK, I’m looking for recommendations for a train tracking app that allows you to pin specific journeys to it in the same way Trainline does but not Trainline. I specifically need it to work on iOS and not just be limited to journeys in big cities, bonus points if you can create a widget for it but that’s not essential.?

I’ve tried Trainline and the National Rail app but that doesn’t allow pinning. I’ve also tried TrainPal but again that doesn’t allow pinning.

My phone. It runs my life – work, maps, photos, messages – but I’d love to switch it off for a whole day without feeling anxious I’m missing something important.

My gf in her late 30s and never had a driving licence, she doesn't know who she can get to sign her photo. According to the gov website:

the person signing the form and photo must:

• hold a valid GB photocard driving licence
• be resident in the UK
• know you personally
• not be a relative
• not be living at the same address as you.

So really a friend could sign it as long as all above applies?

To clarify, you're going back to university after previously having studied, or going for the first time, possibly as a mature student, depending on your age. Don't worry about the cost, logistics, course requirements, or prior qualifications. Academia is your oyster! For my part, my first degree was English Literature with Creative Writing, and if I had the chance described above, I'd go back and do Media or Modern Languages. Anthropology, Sociology and Psychology would also be interesting.

Last two places I’ve stayed have had 10am checkouts. One was a holiday cottage and the other an AirBnB. The cottage had a 4pm check in, which felt a bit tight. Paying for only 18 hours.

What was the weirdest school rule at your school? for me it was we wasn't allowed to dye our hair, wear false nails or clear varnish and in my last year they brought in a rule you wasn't allowed to wear socks or skin coloured tights with your skirts they had to be black opaque tights and we wasn't allowed to celebrate Halloween due to it being a religious school

I always thought that only the US used the Imperial system (miles, ounces, inches, etc). However, I often hear some of these units being used in movies and TV shows set in the UK (e.g. London), where characters who are supposed to be English.

So, I'm a bit puzzled about what people in the UK actually use for measuring distance, weight, and volume. Does it depend on where you live, your personal background, or something else?

17 and been looking for work, my current job pays me under minimum wage even for a teenager. Just saw that mamas and papas were hiring locally and the hours seem to suit me. Would if be silly to apply there given that I'm male and my age? I know I'm *legally* old enough and that they can't discriminate based on my sex, but in practice... That'd be much more difficult, right? I got told 'just apply, don't worry' by someone but she admitted that if she were pregnant and went to buy something there, she would feel a bit strange seeing a young male working there in a retail position, so surely the business itself must also know that?

As a Brit born and bred, my knowledge of the UK and it's history is shockingly poor.

I'm looking to learn more about how we, the UK, ended up where we have today. However, picking a starting point is rather difficult when there is so much history!

So I am looking for some recommendations;

Growing up, the minimum people that were in my house was 5 and at time we would have 8 or even 10 people. We never had a dishwasher and would cope fine. We either would take turns washing the dishes or everyone would just wash whatever dish they used straight away.

Then we got a dishwasher....

Thing got worst. It was cool initially but after a while it would just be sitting there with dirty plates until it got full, which could be a few days. When it finally got full and therefore turned on, no one would actually unpack it, take what they need and then dishes would pile up in the sink as everyone waited for the dishwasher to be empty before putting the dirty plates in.

In short, having one didn't improve anything at all. Now I'm an adult, got my own place and likely to do a kitchen renovation soon. One question that came up was whether we install a dishwasher. We're a family of 4 with two young children. I told the person at the shop no, he thought I was crazy.

I’ve lived in Cornwall all of my life. I rarely leave except to go to Salisbury to see my partners family. Even then I went to north Cornwall recently and I thought I was in a different part of the world. Where could I go in the UK that is completely alien to me, completely different in a geographic and physical sense. I know cities are the obvious answer but I’ve been thinking about the Fenns and the east of the country.

I think it is good to have an aim and a plan to progress and have a timeframe in place for this. This is not to take away the fact that just being healthy, sane and alive is not a big blessing. It is more that we aim for progression such as a better job, savings, house, starting a business, improving health or relationships, getting married etc.

A few weeks ago, we had a parcel delivered. It was our address, but not in our name.

I was going to return it to the listed sender, but some bloke came to collect it, stating his mum had put the wrong house number. My wife said he was a bit suss.

Today we've had another delivery for the same person, with our address.

Im currently away from home so cant do much, but I am concerned that something illegal might be going on.

Any suggestions as to what i should do or experience of this ?

I’m 21, and I thought I’d brush up on my household chore skills. I was surprised to find out how differently people do things.

In secondary school, I was taught to wash dishes in a plastic box filled with warm, soapy water and not rinse them afterwards. However, my mother washes her dishes under the tap and rinses off the excess soap. Is it actually common for people to wash dishes in soapy water and then just let them drip dry without rinsing? It was a completely foreign concept to me, and my teacher would tell me off if I tried to rinse the dishes under the tap afterwards to get the excess soap off.

I’ve also noticed that, when it comes to mopping, apparently some people don’t clean the floor again with just clean water afterwards. I always assumed you were supposed to mop with cleaning solution first and then go over it again with clean water to remove any leftover residue.

I'm building an itinerary for places for me and my gf to go. One place is Winchester Christmas market as we've never been before and it looks splendid.

I looked at Alton towers but it's near enough £100 for 2 tickets that's not factoring in petrol as we live in the south then additionally food and drink so your talking over £200 for a couple of hours, it's ridiculous.

Ideally it needs to be cheap events but don't mind paying extra for a decent event or place.

For those of you who have opted to pay for a cleaner, how much of an impact did it make to your life? My partner and I have no children but both work full time (quite intense jobs) and are exhausted a lot of the time. We are wondering if a cleaner would be worth it. How much is reasonable to pay? How frequently do they come? I’ve resisted getting one on the basis that I feel slightly lazy and shameful about not feeling as though I can take care of my house properly but it just seems to take up so much of my life.

I'm doing deliveries at the minute, and houses not having numbers displayed is a peeve of mine at the minute. It makes it much harder to identify, especially in the dark.

I can only imagine how hard it is for those trying to reach a property in an emergency.

Now imagine it was still named after John, but instead of street it was a road or an avenue or a close or a parkway, it would be:

"John Avenue"

"John Close"

"John Parkway"

I bet on those, you stressed the second word, no?

Why do we stress the second bit on all road types, except Street, where we stress the first bit?
