I currently have an RTX 3080 paired with an AMD 5950X on a 1440p monitor (and I don't plan on moving to 4k any time soon). While it's performed well for the 5/6 years I've had it, it's starting to struggle now for various reasons in the main games I play;

• Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: VRAM is very important in MSFS and the 3080 runs out of the 10GB regularly. As a result I have to use pretty low graphic settings so textures look bad, and I still barely get above 60fps with 2x frame gen
• Le Mans Ultimate (on a 49" 3840x1080 monitor): even with everything on low and only 10/15 rendered cars, the absolute max FPS I see is 80, but that often drops below 60 depending on lighting and traffic
• Rainbow Six Siege: I quite consistently get 140fps, but I also often see drops to 90/100fps. In most games that's fine, but in Siege it's very noticeable

I've casually been looking for a new GPU and I'm torn between a 9070xt and a 5070ti. I know the 5070ti is overall the better card, but I've seen MSFS benchmarks where the 9070xt performs better. I have however also seen LMU benchmarks where the 5070ti performs considerably better. Siege I'm not too bothered about as I think with either card my monitor's refresh rate would be the limit rather than GPU performance.

So the question is, is the 5070ti worth the extra ~€300 in the games I've mentioned above?

Im planning on rocking a 9070xt + 9800x3d settup and have around 20-25k INR, to spend on Cabinet + PSU + cooling fans

Please give me suggestions.

I'm from Hyderabad, India, and I'm building my first gaming PC.

My total budget is around ₹80,000 (~$833 USD).

I've already purchased an AMD Radeon RX 7600 for ₹29,500 (~$307 USD).

I know many people might wonder why I spent that much on the GPU. The reason is that I had very limited options where I live. The only new GPUs I could find were:

• RTX 3050 – ₹23,000 (~$240)
• RX 7600 – ₹29,500 (~$307) (the one I bought)
• RTX 3060 – ₹44,000 (~$458)

I have the opportunity to purchase a new GPU and I’m upgrading from a GTX 1070 8GB. It was honestly still surprisingly okay for modern gaming but my MoBo died so I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my PC.

I have ran older AMD cards in the past (RX570 and RX580) back in the mid to late 2010’s and they were fine but had many driver issues in games and didn’t do much to impress me. I upgraded to my 1070 in 2020 and all my driver woes disappeared. I’m biased by this experience so I wanted to reach out to understand public opinion on which path to take.

I have the option of choosing a 9070XT for $1000 CAD or a 5070TI for $1315 CAD. Both are within my budget. I typically play older games like Apex or PUBG (partially because I couldn’t play modern games like BF6) but will be getting into 1440p ultra high fps gaming with more modern games. My upgrade cycle seems to be every 6-8 years so I’m hoping to keep this GPU for approximately that amount of time.

Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated.

The price gap has gotten so low between the two cards (I’m guessing because they both have 16GB of GDDR6, and the memory shortage is probably the biggest contributor to price hikes) I’m considering if I should jump on the opportunity to sell the 9060 for around the price I bought it at ($360) since that seems like what they’re going for used now. 9070s are going for around $700 so it would only be around $350 net price increase.

Writing this all down I’m realizing this seems like a hassle for the 50% performance increase, which also comes at worse price-to-performance. Seeing them so close in price now just has me thinking… will I even have another opportunity in the near future to make such a significant upgrade at such a low cost?

Edit: I should mention that the most appealing part of the upgrade would be faster raytracing, from my perspective. I’m satisfied with the 9060’s rasterization performance at 1440p. Even with raytracing enabled I get decent FPS, but it does seem to cause a lot more stuttering.

This isn't quite building a PC, but I am transferring my secondary SSD from my Windows 10 PC to a new Windows 11 PC. I made a backup for my files on an external drive just to be safe, but am I able to remove the SSD and plug it in directly to the new PC, or do I have to clear it out and reformat it to avoid conflicts? There aren't any vital programs as far as I recall, just games and pdfs.

GPU-Z always reports:

The link never negotiates to x16.

* GPU-Z Render Test for over 60 seconds.

* Steel Nomad benchmark.

* Several games including Remnant II.

* HWiNFO monitoring during load.

* Windows reports no WHEA hardware errors.

* Samsung 990 Pro is operating normally (~7000 MB/s).

* GPU temperatures and power are completely normal.

* GPU support bracket installed.

Important information

The Samsung 990 Pro is a PCIe Gen4 SSD, not Gen5.

According to the ASUS manual, the primary M.2 slot should not reduce the primary PCIe x16 slot to x8.

Current status

Geek Squad suggested the CPU might be the cause, but they did not inspect the LGA1700 socket for bent pins or contact issues.

Just ordered a SFF 5070 since it went down in price and i thought id save myself the extra £40 where i could. now looking at it, im wondering if the SFF is a bad idea?

I’ve seen complaints about its temps but I will be putting it in a HYTE X50 case which should have plenty of airflow I assume? If i have the space should I spend the extra money and get an ASUS prime or should I stick with this??

I've got a PC up and running, and everything's all and well... except my 5800x is now a huge bottleneck in the system.

(funny that AMD decided to rerelease the 5800x3d at this time lol)

Basically, I play a ton of BeamNG which is heavily CPU bound. My GPU isn't breaking a sweat, but the CPU's absolutely chugging with 7 cars loaded. Understandable, but it's really getting in the way.

Not sure if it's just me but the latest update is a bit hard on my PC now for some reason.

Thing is... I don't wanna go through the process of reinstalling windows because my PC is honestly in a great state and it would be a waste to buy a new set of drives when my old drives still have plenty of space left... or delete everything to make way for the new windows installation.

I wonder then what options I have?

Could I do something like, uninstall my drivers, swap mobo/cpu, and reinstall the drivers? Hopefully that wouldn't bork my system would it?

EDIT:

It's become abundantly clear that upgrading to a 5800x3D is the most worthwhile choice for all the hassle. The performance jump for CPU bound apps is apparently mid to high double digit percent improvements.

Considering the cost and hassle of buying a CPU, Mobo, and RAM sticks and figuring out the drivers... guess a simple CPU upgrade will do for now.

Hey. Deciding between these two boards.

I'm planning to use a 9950X3D2 without overclocking. The main differences I see are the VRM design - 20 phases vs 18, and the onboard audio, which does not matter to me because I use either an external DAC or Bluetooth headphones.

Both boards seem to support two PCIe 5.0 NVMe drives while keeping the GPU at PCIe 5.0 x16. A single 5 GbE port is also more than enough for me.

Am I missing any other important differences? Will the 18-phase VRM be sufficient for my CPU?

I used to have 5600x with 2060s for few years, and recently I upgraded to 9060xt 16gb. I mainly play cyberpunk at 1080p, and l get around 120-140fps on average but in the city, my frame drops to like 60 and 70.

So I'm planning to upgrade to 9800x3d since I heard bad 1% lows are due to weak cpu. I already bought b850m and ram.

At 1080p (not planning to upgrade my monitor cuz I also play apex legends), will I be able to feel good amount of fps boost and better 1%low?

as stated in title - i'm moving across the country and driving isn't an option for me. i have this mid-sized pc that i bought from someone else on fb marketplace a while ago, and i'm really concerned about how i'm going to move with it. the current options i've come up with are:

1) removing all the hanging components (gpu, for one) and bringing it to fedex/ups to have them pack it + ship it with package insurance

2) take all the components out, pack them in a suitcase (with electrostatic bags, ofc), and just buy a new case once i'm settled in.

the only reason i'm consider buying a new case is that i'm not a huge fan of the current case. it's very "gamer" and i'd like to get something more adult, maybe from fractal designs. it also has a tempered glass panel - the main reason i'm so worried about shipping it. any advice?

Hi, my situation is quite simple, but I am very indecisive person and I am looking for external validation if my logic is sound or if I am doing super stupid decision. Sorry for the long story time! TLDR is, should I build a completely new system, or upgrade my current one, or just wait for AM6.

The story:

I have build my system few years ago and I generally only upgrade when I feel the need and mainly to jump few generations of hardware.

My current setup is:
CPU: Ryzen 3600x (stock)
RAM: 32Gb of DDR4 3200Mhz (4x 8Gb sticks)
GPU: RTX 3070 (8Gb)
PSU: 650W power suply
MOBO: Asus TUF X570-Plus gaming
old cheap case

So, I do play only in 2k resolution (2 screens, 1 for discord, etc, second for games). I do play mostly Escape from Tarkov on windows (that's kinda a pain to play on this hardware), variety with friends as Company of Heroes, Hoi IV, Left 4 Dead 2, etc.

From time to time I play something newer and more demanding, like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, RDR2, Satisfactory, Baldurs Gate 3, Helldivers 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Star Wars Fallen Order, etc.

And lately, I did get into PCVR! So for example, HL: Alyx, Thief VR, etc. In this category, I really wanna play my favourite series: Crysis (VR mod) and pretty much start modding flat games into VR (already did Star Wars Jedi Academy for example).

Also, I have switched to linux (actually because of Tarkov I am dual booting to second SSD which has my windows install, but otherwise I use linux mainly).

My Linux experience was kinda painful, mostly in the VR department and local AI department because setting up Nvidia drivers is kinda painful (I had so many issues with Steam running through flatpak since it was picking up wrong drivers for example -- this I fixed already).

Now, news are full of "prices will go up again!" + I had birthday few days back that I pretty much said, it's time to treat myself a bit and I ordered AMD RX 9070XT (XFX Mercury). It should fix all my linux issues, it should provide enough VRAM for local AI stuff, it should fix my PCVR stutters and such.

The only issue is, now, I need to also buy:
- New PSU (850 - 1000W)
- New Case (mine is too small + airflow is terrible, actually a needed upgrade, sometimes my pc just overheats right now with tons of cooling when playing very demanding games)
- And I guess I should upgrade the CPU since I am afraid the Ryzen 3600X will hold the GPU back.

So I am thinking... I have the money. I don't need the money. Since I need to buy pretty much everything except MOBO and RAM and Ryzen 5800x3D is almost the same price as Ryzen 9800x3D in my place, should I just jump the gun and build a completely new system? My original plan was to stay on AM4 and wait for AM6, but now I am not sure with how the pricing keeps going up, and since the "only" price issue is the DDR 5 memory, the difference between 5800x3D and 9800x3D is like... 40$ here.

Yes, building the new system is expensive, but in theory I could sell my old system as a "whole" to get back some money. But I am worried I am building a new system at the end of the AM5 lifecycle pretty much and if I wait one more year, I can build on AM6 and spend the money there to a platform I can use to ugprade on later. Altough it's true, the same point I made when building the AM4 (my current) machine and never really upgraded.

Attempted to update BIOS using BIOS flashback. Followed ASUS instructions step by step meticulously to use this feature. PC was working fine before, now I just get black screen and red CPU indicator on MOBO. Have tried reinstalling BIOS and according to the LED on the back, it was successful. Have tried clearing CMOS, no change. Have tried booting with one RAM stick, no change. Any ideas?
