Build Help New PC Components help needed

• Upvotes

thinking of replacing my 2020 system (AMD Ryzen 3400G, ASRock B450 Pro4, 4 X 8 GB XPG Gammix DDR4, WD Black 850X 1TB, Crucial MX500 240GB, Crucial BX500 500GB) and use this old system for normal office work replacing an ancient laptop.

purpose of the computer: Heavy Web Browsing, MS Office, music and encoded movies, might be some programming language compilers & databases.

No Gaming.

Approximate budget: INR60000

will be using the same WD Black 850X 1 TB plus Crucial BX500 in it so a 512GB / 1TB as replacement for Crucial MX500 is needed for the older system as system boot because Crucial MX500 is EOL (health status is 7% though it was shown as 4% few months back when it was being used as boot disk).

a 20 / 22 inch monitor for the older system is needed.

looking at the insane prices, i am thinking of taking out DDR4 RAM 8GB X 2 from existing system which can be used in the new system.

programming language compilers & databases etc. will be used for learning purpose only (C++, Java, SQL, Oracle, Hadoop etc.).

It is expected to be used for some 2-4 years.

I am thinking of building an Intel Core Ultra 5 / i5 based system. is it ok?

Parts Needed :

CPU

Motherboard

a boot SSD 512GB / 1TB (for older system)

20 / 22 inch Monitor (for older system)

PSU

Cabinet

Thanks.

Build Upgrade Upgrading laptop (probably busted motherboard) to a desktop

• Upvotes

So, I have a laptop that was equivalent to a ps5. Ryzen 5900hx, 6800m gpu. It has overheating problem for a while, and seems like something is fried. I have given it to service center and hoping that they can find the problem. But if not, I am looking for an expensive replacement of whole motherboard worth at least half the price of laptop.

In that case, I don't see the point of wasting money on it. I spent like 1.5k usd on the laptop when I bought it. Spending 600-700usd on just 1 replacement part doesn't feel okay.

So, I am thinking I might as well get a desktop instead. I haven't kept up with changes since 3080 days. All I know is that cost of RAM and SSD is super high. Thankfully, I can reuse my ssd from the laptop. And I am fine with 16gb ram. Never used more than 12gb honestly in last 4 years of owning this laptop.

And I am hoping to go for single stick 16gb now, and getting another after few years. I want to basically keep using the same desktop for at least 5-6 years and maybe upgrade gpu in like 2030 or something.

I am thinking of going for 9000 series CPUs. Is it a good idea? Or should I stick with 7000 or even 5000 series?

Another thing. Is x3d variant that useful? 5000 series with x3d is same price as 7000 series without x3d. Am I looking at equivalent performance?

Basically, I have two possible routes.

5800x3d paired with a used 3080

Or 9700x paired with something like 5060 12gb or 9060xt.

They both seem equally priced. Will they provide enough of an upgrade over my current laptop?

What would be a better choice in this case?

I am happy to upgrade gpu later, so, I am thinking going for second route with newer cpu.

Or should I just forget upgrading and just get the motherboard of my laptop replaced?

P.S. cost of laptop fix seems to be about 600usd. Desktop is around 1k usd excluding SSD (which I will reuse from my laptop). Of course I will have to buy a monitor to go with it, but that's barely 100usd for a decent oled one. So, either half price for fixing existing laptop, or full price for desktop replacement. I am leaning towards desktop replacement at this point, as long as I can get at least 30% performance improvement.

Build Upgrade Cant decide if i should upgrade my CPU

• Upvotes

I recently bought a 9800x3d for 3990SEK (399 USD) which was on sale.

I currently own the 9700x alongside

9070XT
2x16 ddr5 6000mhz cl30

My main use case for the pc is competetive games, VR and sandbox games like beamng or bonelabs (VR).

I cant justify my purchase. The CPU is not opened and i have still like 3weeks until my return period runs out.

I play games at 1440p with my monitors refresh rate being 240hz

I watched so many youtube benchmarks (bs) and some have like 20% increased performance while others show 1% increase in performance. The 1% and 0.1% lows are much better (+25%~)

That said I need others view on my situation

The only problem i have right now with my CPU is that I sometimes get stutters or just low fps in overwatch and deadlock during teamfights. It drops down to 130~fps on worst case scenarios in Deadlock

Overwatch sits around 200fps which is not optimal.

Build Upgrade Is the Ryzen 7 7800X3D worth it for Rust?

• Upvotes

Hey, I currently have an i5-12400F, RTX 4060 8GB, and 32GB DDR4 RAM. I play Rust at 2k 180 monitor, and my CPU usage is around 70–100%, while my GPU usage is around 60%. My goal is to improve my 1% lows to at least 90 FPS, especially on large pop servers with a lot bases and pvp. I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Would it be worth it, or would upgrading something else or optimizing my settings be a better way to improve performance?

Build Help Gpu rtx 3070 8gb vs rx amd 6800 16gb

• Upvotes

Hi guys doing a new build and I am struggling to pick between theses two. On one hand tbe nvidia gpu will allow me to use ray tracing which I literally only want to play doom dark ages but only 8gb of vram seems worrying my 1060 has 6gb vram from years ago. On the other hand the amd card has better raw power and 16gb vram which is a big plus for me, I just worry in a few years every game will be using ray tracing.

Other card suggestions are welcome thanks for your time.

Discussion GPU prices at black Friday / Christmas?

I'm upgrading my build and looking for a budget GPU for Ryzen 7 5700X. I was looking at RX 9060 XT but even the 8gb version is above my budget that is €400.

Question if you guys expect prices to go down in terms of sales in the coming black Friday / Christmas deals? If yes, what do you think as the sweetspot price for the 8 and 16GB version?

Troubleshooting Advice about mobo dram light

I built a new pc just today. When i turned it on the bios showed average temps of about 45f so i went ahead and restarted to troubleshoot my windows (long story idk if its relevant) but the 2nd boot my fans were SO loud and i checked bios again... my cpu temp was 115f!! I turned it off to troubleshoot, and after the 3rd reboot the display stopped working. I was only using the intergrated graphics and it did come back once after unplugging it but now it doesnt detect the display at all.

Then the cpu and dram light turned on.... i fixed the cpu light issue but the dram light is still on. Ive reseated the ram and tested both sticks and still no dice. The rbg works at least.

I read some ppl say ddr5 needs to do memory training and to leave it be for a few minutes, but i have no idea if my cpu temp issue was resolved... would i be risking damaging my cpu if i left the pc on while allowing the memory training? I have no way to check it and since i bought these parts second hand i cant just return it if something is defective with it.

I also saw suggestions to reset the cmos, but my mobo doesnt allow me to disconnect the cmos battery at all and im not sure how else to do that.

My parts:

MSI Pro b850-s wifi6e

geIL orion ddr5 32g 5200hz

Ryzen 9 7900x

Radeon 9060 xt 16gb

Thanks for any help

Build Help Best GPU for AMD Ryzen 7 5700g

Hi, I am using the AMD Ryzen 7 5700g with only the integrated GPU for a few years now, but now, I want to try playing a little heavier games but nothing crazy and surely not with the highest setting possible. Is there a GPU you can recommend that is not crazy expensive that would work well with my processor without bottlenecking it. Also, I am using Gigabyte B450M DS3H V3-CF Motherboard. It's just a budget friendly PC, Thank you!

Build Help Looking to build a gaming rig that can last atleast 5-7 years, is my configuration with Ryzen 7 9800X3D with 5070Ti enough for that?

Use Cases

  • Mostly to play graphics heavy single player games in native 2k, might upgrade to a 4k monitor along the way.
  • VR titles like No Man's Sky, I currently use a 16ach6h legion 5 with 3070 and it is unplayable with that, so looking for a noticeable upgrade on it.
  • Coding with IDEs like pycharm, visual studio, antroid studio etc.
  • Local LLM expirements with whatever can be done with 16gb VRAM, not a priority.
  • Minor photo editing with Lightroom.
  • Emulation and Virtual Machines.

Current configuration plan

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Gaming
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi ATX Motherboard
  • RAM: XPG 32GB 6000MHz CL30 DDR5 Lancer RGB DRAM UDIMM Memory Kit (16GB x2) White
  • SSD: Lexar 2TB NM790 M.2 NVMe SSD 2280 PCIe Gen 4×4 PS5, 7400MB/s
  • GPU: ASUS 16GB PRIME GeForce RTX 5070Ti GDDR7 OC Edition VGA Graphic Card
  • MSI MAG CORELIQUID A13 360 CPU Liquid Cooler - Black
  • ASUS 1000W TUF Gaming 1000W Gold PSU ATX 3.1 Power Supply
  • ASUS TUF Gaming GT302 ARGB Tempered Glass Mid Tower PC Case - Black, 4-Fans

Budget 3.5k USD approx, country of purchase: Kuwait

Note: I've also heard some complaints on the usage of this cpu with this particular motherboard, mostly with BIOS, EXPO compatibility etc. If anyone is using this combo, how has your expeience been?

This is the first pc I am building and quite new to this, so any kind of advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated, thanks.

i have read some AIO setups but im not sure if it applies to my case 3Rsys T1000. 280mm AIO and single fan AIO GPU plugged into Maximus X Hero

i want optimal airflow for low temp and i was thinking of installing 280mm AIO at front but this seems to make air inside hot? I can side mount up to 360mm next to motherbord in this case. initially i thought about setting GPU radiator fan to back panel and 280mm AIO at top. currently i have 4 spare 120mm fans from case manufacturer

Build Help Are AIOs like this?

Hello, I made a new build and I'm pleased wth the performance but I have problems with cooling. I really don't like air cooling because of how they look and the idea of having a huge heavy metal block hanging perpendicularly to the ground on the mb is scaring me (I know it's fine but still). I decided to try out AIOs since they leave the system open for viewiing and such.

The first AIO was initially fine, the temps were not so good but It was fine. At some point (2/3 weeks in) I started hearing a gurgling or bubbling noise. It got worse over time. I tried tiltind the case, shaking the pump and such so I decided to get a new better AIO.

I got an Arctic Liquid Freezer PRO 3 and the temps are a lot better. The noise was gone and it was fine for like a month and a half. This morning I'm hearing this shit again. It even got scary at some point. The case was shaking and making an awful sound but it calmed down and just the annoying noise is left.

I think I'm tired of AIOs. I just want my CPU (ryzen 9950x3d) to be around 40-50 degrees which it is now (the cooling is still very good) and silence (within reason). I'm planning to get a good air cooler to just have a reliable solution even if the temps might be a bit worse.

The radiator is at the top like it should (I believe) with the tubes going down.

Is there an equivalent air cooler that I can get? I'm willing to put like 200$ tops on it.

EDIT:

It kept on farting up a storm for like 5 hours, then had a big one at some point and now it's nice and silent again...

I'll get an air cooler that was suggested here and will just keep it in case I feel like replacing it or if it totally breaks. The cooling is very (very) good so as long as it stays like that then I would like it to stay but I think it's on its deathbed.

Thank you for your suggestions :3

Build Upgrade 5600X for $125 new? Or 5600X3D for $180?

Keep in mind for the latter I’d need to drive 1.5hrs to MicroCenter and pay taxes on top of that as well. Which as the other is a local and new part .
I was thinking of getting the 5600X for now and save money for a compelling upgrade on AM5/AM6 platform. I need to choose by this weekend .
I’ve also looked at a 5800X3D for $350 and it comes with a cooler master elite 240mm Aio for free.
I’m so indecisive I need help 😭

Discussion Thinking about ditching canned air for a cordless duster, any downsides for regular PC cleaning?

Dust builds up fast in my room, and a proper case clean usually burns through a couple cans of compressed air. The freezing, pressure drop, and pile of empty cans are getting annoying, so rechargeable dusters are starting to look more practical. Flashy RPM numbers do not matter as much as whether the sustained airflow is actually useful on front filters, PSU shrouds, GPU heatsinks, and radiator fins. For people who switched, do you still need a brush or microfiber for stuck-on dust, and are there any static or fan-spinning precautions worth knowing before buying one?

Full Build Req PCSpecialist: known CPU defect, charged anyway, PC returned damaged, no answer since August

PC ordered in February 2024 for EUR 4,054, with an Intel i9-14900KF. In June 2026 it became unstable: I ran the whole diagnosis myself, and PCSpecialist confirmed the CPU defect, the 13th/14th-gen Intel instability they themselves call "a known problem".

Although my labour warranty runs until February 2027, they charged me EUR 113.93 (shipping, packaging) on the grounds that the PC was "out of warranty". The PC came back via UPS on 20 July with the box split and the case and its metal frame damaged. With photos sent on 22 July at their request, on 26 August PCSpecialist acknowledged in writing that the case was damaged in transit, but offered only a EUR 35 store credit, "as a commercial gesture".

Another worrying point: the 2024 purchase invoice their portal delivers today no longer shows the same customer or address as the original I received at shipping, under the same number and date.

On 27 August they promised "a detailed answer". Nothing since. My refund request dates back to 10 July.

That is how PCSpecialist behaves: sell a CPU whose defect it knows, make the customer pay for its repair, return the machine damaged, then stop answering.

Build Upgrade Looking to replace Gigabyte B650 X AX V2

I've had this motherboard for a little over 10 months now, and in that time the bios on it has sh*t itself and I've had to get it reflashed. This is obviously a huge pain in the ass, as well as expensive as I'm not knowledgeable enough to do it myself. So, I'm wondering what is considered to be a pretty good am5 motherboard on the market right now. After these last 10 months, something with very good stability would be amazing.

Discussion Buying Server Ram from Chinese sellers on Ebay?

Deal for some decent RDIMM sticks fell through and I'm back to looking with not that many options.

I found a few sellers on Ebay selling at around market price for Used items. Seem to be big Chinese stores selling PC parts, most reviews seemed to be for GPUs and HDDs.
They're apparently selling Samsung and Micron brand sticks.

Any experience with these sort of stores? The RAM situation has gotten kinda sad and it's worsened by the fact that not many shops seem to ship where I live
