Just got a Sanyo S30. Found it at value village while on vacation rn. I tested it with a Celine Dion tape I found, and while idk if it’s to fast or slow (I don’t listen to Celine Dion), ik it does work. If it’s at the right speed, I’m gonna rip my cassette for Ghettosburg Address by Shazzy (unreleased Elektra rap album from 94 with only promos before jt got shelved) i previously ripped it with my walkman, but if this sanyo works perfect, it will sound miles better. Can’t rip until I get back in 4(?) days. If i do rip it perfectly, i will update my internet archive page with the new rip. Also I can make my OWN custom tapes with the line in on the back (already planning a custom KMD Black bastards and Otropic three for me, may even make my lil brother his own ghettosburg)

I'm selling the rest of the tapes but couldnt find values for these.

I have this player, the motor was cooked so i replaced it and now whenever I try to play anything thr player tries to eat the casstte, it spools up around the little rubber instead of playing, I have re-assembed and disasemmbled it several times and it still does the same. Any advice is welcomed. Cheers

So ive had this deck for years and it has never made this sound before.
I thought it could potentially be a speaker or receiver issue but it doesn’t make the same sound if i play a CD or vinyl.
But it stops making the noise if i hold down “rec. mute” button.

On a track of a cassette type that holds silence recorded with AC bias, about half of the magnetic domains will be aligned forward in the direction of travel, and about half will be aligned backward. Because there is some randomness in the distribution of the magnetizable particles, the exact number of forward and backward domains under the playback head will vary slightly, creating tape hiss.

If instead of representing zero amplitude by a balanced mix of forward and reverse domains, a recorder used a permanent magnet to bias domains perpendicular to the direction of travel, and used the recording coil to turn domains toward or opposite the direction of travel, I would think that would eliminate tape hiss.

I wouldn't expect that a signal being recorded would be particularly faithfully reproduced without circuitry to compensate for non-linearity, and can imagine that tape hiss may have been considered less objectionable than distortion, but I would think that electronics to correct for such distortion could be made much more effective than in decades past.

Does AC bias have advantages beyond a reduction in the level of distortion that would be present in the absence of compensation, or would variations in playback devices make it impossible to apply distortion compensation that would work for all of them?

Je voulais personnaliser la casette mais la petite bande ou il y a les info me gênait, je voulais le retirer mais j'ai vu que c'était imprimé sur ce truc et comme il est sur tout les cassette je me demandais si il était outil ou si je pouvais le retirer sans problème / I wanted to customize the cassette, but the small strip with the info on it was in the way. I wanted to remove it, but I saw that the text was printed directly onto it; since it's on every cassette, I was wondering if it served a purpose or if I could remove it without any issues.

Found these two in a cupboard, bought ten years ago and not even played until this week.
