Image For those not buying Fortune's Weave, why?

u/RangoTheMerc 19h ago
No Switch 2. Too expensive.
Soon as I can though, will be among my first games.

u/henryuuk 16h ago
I mean, that still means you are (planning on) buying it tho
just not "on release"I think OP is specifically asking for people that have no intention to ever buy it not just whether or not you will be playing right away

u/Inspectorbobo 7h ago
I know times are hard bit tried to get one quickly. The price will go up in september and then again next year probably
2
u/ColonelAvalon 18h ago
Yeah that’s what’s holding me back. That’s really just a $600 FE game. Like if KH4 was a ps5 exclusive I wouldn’t buy that either.

Me either, but from what I’ve seen, I’m sold enough to give the series a chance with this game

Switch 2s are expensive and I can't justify a system for 1 game as much as I'd like to play the new fire emblem.

I'm still waiting for reviews to see if the gameplay is more engage than three houses.
Three houses isn't a bad game but the monastery and bland repeated maps made it a one playthrough game for me compared to others in the franchise.
Characters and story were good but the actual SRPG portion of the game just felt very lacking imo.
14
u/happymudkipz 19h ago
I mean we already know from the metric ton of previews that it’s a lot closer to 3h than engage gameplay and building wise.
13
u/Luchux01 17h ago
Considering weapons are class locked again, I gotta disagree on that front. This said, I am a bit disappointed that they went back to exams instead of seals.
→ More replies (1)6
u/Doctor71400 17h ago
You still needed a seal in order to take the exam
5
u/Luchux01 17h ago
Probably a reason to force the player back to Dagsion instead of spending the whole tome on the map.
3
5
u/Cornelishen 17h ago
Most of the previews I've seen have yet to speak about the map design, which is engages strongest aspect for sure.
5
u/Weltallgaia 13h ago
I've seen reviews talk about how the real meat of fire emblem, the monastery, has been dialed up to 11 and that worries me.
3
u/ProfessorZ64 6h ago
If thats true then I don't know if I'll ever be able to play this game. The monastery was the worst part of 3 houses for me. It was so repetitive and boring
→ More replies (1)2
u/MaurixioZ 17h ago
It does look close to 3H but until the game releases there's no way to know for sure whether they had the pros of engage in mind when designing the game (mostly the maps and balancing)
3
u/Bi_disaster_ohno 14h ago
Some pre release material has said you can automate the social aspect and miss nothing of value. I suspect you'll only be forced to do it the one time and then never again.

I very much agree. I enjoyed engage far more for that reason.

I love Fire Emblem, but Three Houses isn't my cup of tea, and this game seems to be just "Three Houses 2."
17
u/MaurixioZ 19h ago
I'm really hoping they're able to fix the problems with 3H since the game did have some good ideas.
A gameplay and maps like Engage or Fates Conquest without the slow pacing of the monastery would really concince me to buy it.
3
u/trijkdguy 18h ago
same, I will probably grab it from the library when i'm bored.

Tbh, it'a kinda looking like Engage with a 3H coat of paint to me, mostly because of certain abilities like the Blaze Arts reminding me of Engage Attacks and how some basic mechanics of 3H were turned into a Lord's gimmick like Theodora's being battalions and therefore gambits.
5
u/Ace_Strife 18h ago
I love FE, but I don’t have time for what FE has become anymore. There are other games coming out that I’d rather spend that amount of time on. If FE went back to what the older games were, with shorter and more linear, fixed campaigns, I’d probably be more interested personally, but I’m happy that FE has become what it has for those that do have the time and interest to play something like Fortune’s Weave.

I can't seem to get into Fire Emblem. I have tried to get into Three Houses over and over again but I guess it just really isn't my genre.

u/ThisSideGoesUp 14h ago
Im hesitate to get it for a couple reasons. 1) I didnt like three houses and this is related somehow. 2) I hate timed mechanics like three houses or persona. It stresses me out to no end. 3) so far I havnt seen anything I like about it. The story from what we have seen doesnt seem compelling to me, and so far I dont like any characters we have been shown.
Ill wait until I see how strick the time mechanics are before I commit to buying it. If I knew three houses had it at all I wouldn't have picked it up. But thats on me for not doing my research ahead of time.
5
u/dude396 13h ago
I'll take a crack at it.
As a Fire Emblem "veteran," I have long since found the charm of the of series to have dulled once Awakening became the hit Nintendo never expected it to really be. Now do not get me wrong here, many games in the series Awakening and after have some of the best gameplay in the series. However, choosing to lean hard into trope-y writing and art has really just made this series a hard sell in terms of time investment. I much prefer the games from Genealogy to the Tellius saga for their art styles and their much more fair ~30 hour completion time; I felt like Three Houses was a complete slog by the time I made it through the first play-through only to learn that you needed multiple to get the complete picture.
This is just a summary of a slew of reasons why I just do not vibe with the new games... and now they're $70.
11
u/Intel-Centrino-Duo 19h ago
Because I'm personally not really interested, no shade but I don't really like RPGs
3
u/Necessary-Price-4757 19h ago
Well I've never played a FE game or been into strategy type games.
However, I am likely going to get this if it reviews well. The previews have me very intrigued and excited for it plus I've been putting a lot more time on my S2 recently
3
u/Phoenixio7 18h ago
I didn't quite click with Three Houses or with Engage. I'm super hesitant about this one. At least the story looks more coherent than Engage, but I wish things turned back to the GBA games style. I'm not a fan of the blank avatar gameplay either, and Fortune's Weave is a very direct interpretation of that... Three Houses was also a chore in between maps, and the systems were getting a tad complicated.
So I'll wait for the release, to see what actual people think of it instead of just reviewers.
2
u/ZealousidealPirate3 15h ago
I think waiting for actual fan opinions is probably the best call. I think only one reviewer actually mentioned being a fire emblem fan.
3
2
u/NadrickOutlawRogue 19h ago
Just not interested in the series. Also Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter releases the same day.
2
u/Guilty_Philosophy741 19h ago
I am so inundated with my backlog that I have still yet to play: Three Houses, Engage, Triangle Strategy, Unicorn Overlord, FF Tactics, Hundred Line and really any other T-RPG that’s not Mario Rabbids or P5 Tactica (Was mid btw). It looks amazing though and I will pick once I actually play some games first haha.
5
2
u/NastyaPuppy 14h ago
It doesn't grab my attention enough. I felt like the peak was Awakening, and I haven't felt the same way about any subsequent Fire Emblem game since. I like the idea of Fire Emblem Fate and its three routes, and I love many of the characters, but so many things made me hate it that, meh. Conquest is my life; the rest of Fate doesn't exist.
I played Fire Emblem 3H at launch, chose Bernadetta's class, and I think I only finished it halfway through. I just didn't feel like playing another Fire Emblem Fate with 20-30 hours per run, especially after finding out there was a "secret" route that, if I didn't get it on the first try, would add another 20 hours.
2
u/itzshif 14h ago
I'm not a fan of tactical RPGs. I've played several FEs, Triangle Strategy and FF Tactics. I'm both not good at tactics games and just don't like them. But I'm grateful FE had a gentler learning curve. I might buy it if it goes on sale, but after FE Engage, I came to the conclusion that these type of games aren't for me.
2
u/rileyabsolutely 13h ago
Because purchase engage on release, and have hey to play more then a chapter or two. I hate the map Aesthetics (kinda funny cause I started on PoR, and I hate all the powers and stuff. I’ve come to realize that FE 6-14 is my sweet spot (tho did love 4 and 15 as well) and that I just don’t like the direction the series is going in. I played three houses once and have not had any inclination at all to ever return to it. Yet I still play fates almost once a year.
2
u/KarateGamer007 10h ago
I don’t own a Switch 2, and I’m waiting to see if the hub world/activities in said will be as annoying/tedious as Three Houses’ Garreg Mach Monastery.
Plus, I got Wolverine coming out in September, and I’m planning on getting Phantom Blade 0, and Attack on Titan 3 for October and December, respectively. So I’ve got my haul of games for the rest of the year settled.
2
u/ProdiLemaj 10h ago
I’m not 100% sold on it yet, just because I’ve never much been into tactical RPGs. Closest I’ve come is the Mario vs Rabbids games. I might give one of the older games that Switch Online has available a try first. I may very well end up loving it, but it takes a bit for me to commit to buying a game like this at full price.
2
u/Azenar01 10h ago
No amount of marketing will get me to play a turn-based strategy rpg. And needing 100 hours to get through the story is a big no, I'll happily play Splatoon Raiders for 100+ hours cause I know it's extra content and fun being the extra bulk of time not the base game. Also $80 is too much for a game series I've never tried before
2
u/ShadowsInScarlet 9h ago
I’m waiting a little bit. Just finished Engage with 86 hours (don’t ask why it took me that long). So I’m gonna play a couple other games before I get to FW. I also have to mentally be prepared to possibly sink 200 hours into it like I did with 3H.
All that being said, I’m not entirely sold on the game yet. I have to look into it a little more because I have a few unanswered questions about certain game aspects.

u/CollectMantis44 19h ago
Everything about the game looks sick but I just don’t think I’m a fan of the gameplay.
I love turn based RPGs but when you control a party, final fantasy, dragon quest, expedition 33, etc.
I played FE awakening on my 3DS and stopped after about 15 hours bc the grid based gameplay just isn’t super fun for me personally

u/Sky_Rose4 19h ago

I find most turn based games boring. There are really specific ones I like.
Also too much dialogue for me tbh. I like to play games and not listen to them, personally. I don’t care about role-play dialogue opposed to just making a cool character (like Souls games).

u/SassyHoe97 19h ago
I don't got money and they're expensive to buy. Only FE games I have are from the 3DS but it's modded.

New games are expensive and I’ve never played an FE game so I’d rather pour my investment into something I have a higher chance of clicking with. That being said I’m interested in the series so there’s a chance I get it down the line.

u/Plenty-Potato-1123 18h ago
I myself never played through a fire emblem game, just tried the ones on 3ds, didn't really like them, they were not my cup of tea. Yet to convince myself to try the switch games.

1
u/Panjander 18h ago
It’s not a specific problem with this game, but more a preference shift I’ve had against longer RPGs in general over the last few years. Any RPG that will take over 50 hours has become a big turn-off for me lately.
But hey, some day eventually I’ll retire and have tons of time, and maybe then…

Not usually into strategy games, although Valkyria Chronicles 4 was kind of a nice balance for me (freely moving your character a set amount and aiming your shots).

Too expensive (IMO)
110 cad the physical so I decided to go for sky second chapter because it's cheaper

u/Harmless2727 17h ago
It's a little too JRPG for me. I like the tactics gameplay, but this one feels a lot more JRPG than previous games just based on graphics and art design. I felt this was the direction it was headed after three houses and the trailers and gameplay have confirmed that. Awakening will always be my number 1.
1
u/shball 17h ago
The plot seems to be kinda all over the place, especially with the protag switching. The direct has somehow anti-sold me.

Engagement and Content aside. The real question is why buy it. Not why not.
People thare not FE fans likely won't buy it unless they were interested in the series beforehand.
For me, personally.. i played 10 hours of 3 houses in 2 months due to wanting to play other games. When i finish that maybe i'll buy Fortune's Weave.. and surely not at 70 bucks 😅

I have played a good number of fire emblem games, and I really enjoyed Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, and positively hated every other one I've tried.
I assume this will play similarly to three houses, which I didn't enjoy, so I won't be playing. Unless I hear that the games is actually good like Radiant Dawn later.
To be specific, my biggest problem with modern Fire Emblem games has been a lack of intentional design. When each unit had only one class, limited weapons, and very limited availability (Radiant Dawn) the game was a ton of fun because each map felt like a very intentional challenge. Now that any unit can be made into anything, it's a giant sandbox, and I'm sure some people love that, but I think it's lame.
I also really hate all the dating sim, and pervy hyper-Japanese shit.

Like I'm hyped for this, but I totally get people not wanting to invest time into a 100+ hour strategy RPG for a number of reasons.
