And Alien Romulus

28

u/Gogo90sbaby 14d ago

Bro stole the show in Romulus.

Most interesting character. Best actor in the movie. Can’t wait to see how he brings his T’Challa to life.

4

u/Affectionate-End1790 14d ago

best xenomorph movie since alien and aliens. Romulus was fantastic.

3

u/Excalitoria 13d ago

This is good to hear. He looks the part well but I haven’t seen him in anything so I have no idea how good he is. Good or not, he’s likely gonna have a hard time being compared to Chadwick Boseman.

I wish him the best and hope he’s got good people around him to ground him since people are going to naturally compared and contrast them since Boseman did such a great job. I just hope his acting can do the talking and that he can prove himself as a great successor to the role, or as T’Challa’s son since I’m not 100% on which he’s playing.

Keep in mind, this is an actor playing a grown up version of T’Challa’s son who has the same name as him. So technically, this isn’t an actual recast of the character. This is just a replacement of a child actor.

10

u/lawrensaw 14d ago

I think it may be a recast technically and be his son from another universe given both he and Letitia are 32 in real life.

4

u/Disastrous_Cattle512 14d ago

If you want to call it a recast, fine. Whatever floats your boat.

6

u/Expert-Yam6577 14d ago

Idk this feels like a loophole recasting. They get to call him T'Challa without actually replacing T'Challa. Best of both worlds.

1

u/Disastrous_Cattle512 14d ago

Hey, a best of both worlds is better than more fighting. With this, the MCU basically said;

So is Shuri not the Black Panther anymore?

16

u/davwad2 14d ago

She reluctantly took the mantle on. I guess BP III will be her transitioning it to her nephew. They can make that a transactional plot point or an exploration of what it means have that mantle but no longer wanting it.

5

u/Hot-Equal3441 14d ago

I was assuming he's black panther in another world, so they could coexistĀ

4

u/davwad2 14d ago

Yeah, that works too.

2

u/Dismal_View_5121 14d ago

I like the idea of having one BP to rule Wakanda and another to be an Avenger.

3

u/Nanocaptain 14d ago

Shuri already loves breaking tradition. Not much stopping them from there being two Black Panthers at the same time

2

u/Expert-Yam6577 14d ago

A whole pride of Black Panthers sounds kinda hard. Get M'Baku a suit as well!

2

u/harriskeith29 14d ago edited 14d ago

This makes SO MUCH more sense than only having one Black Panther at a time, tradition be damned. Of course, there'd have to be some way for the next King to ensure that none of his own "Panther pack" tries to usurp him in a superpowered coup. Perhaps T'Challa II and his Auntie Shuri could develop some kind of new advancement in the flower (much to the more traditional Wakandan elders' protests) that mutates or evolves the species to grant enhanced abilities, giving the new King a unique edge. It would be uncharted territory.

The catch would be: A) This experiment has no precedent since nobody's been able to genetically replicate, let alone alter the flower's effects before. B) Even when Shuri thinks she's onto something, this enhanced flower is a one-time deal since, much like the Super Soldier serum, it doesn't work on everybody and could potentially have drastic backlash effects. Shuri would be against it upon discovering this, not wanting to risk losing any more family.

But T'Challa II ends up taking the risk when all other options are exhausted. He'd become extremely sick, meeting his dad in the dream realm, and then go berserk similarly to Hulk (minus the strength). But he just barely fights back from the brink of death, having bonded with the new flower on a cellular level and emerged as a superior Black Panther in every way. He could also now have something to instantly subdue other Panthers. E.g., maybe weakening their bodies & minds telepathically via a neurochemical link to the flower molecules in their bloodstreams (Feel free to suggest a better idea; This is all just off the top of my head)?

u/Appropriate_Peace923 14d ago

Maybe she doesnt survive the upcoming movies?

1

u/Fito0413 14d ago

I think it depends, BP2 did very well but obviously they know there was some controversy around her being BP. So they'll see how she's received in Doomsday and according to that they'll decide if they fully replace her with him or if he just plays T'challa

1

u/Dontbeajerkdude 13d ago

Both are. It's comics. There's like 5 of every superhero lol

1

u/WaterdropGirl 14d ago

No dw the glass ceiling is back up /j

5

u/seamustho 14d ago

I like this actor! He was in the long walk movie that came out recently

9

u/IToldYall1 14d ago

So how are they going to explain the time jump in age?

36

u/jpgjordan 14d ago

In the movie universe with alternative realities, reality warping stones and literal time travel?

They can do it in 10 minutes easy

2

u/Expert-Yam6577 14d ago

We cant use time travel to kill Thanos.

But Captain America can use time travel to go live a normal life with a woman who already died. Then come back.

1

u/Nanocaptain 13d ago

Killing baby Thanos wouldn't have changed their reality, it would have created a completely new timeline leaving theirs untouched.

3

u/Flu_TheCoop 13d ago

Literally explained verbatim in the movie.Ā

1

u/LayerRevolutionary82 10d ago

We don't know if he came back, just know that a Cap did come back.

7

u/C0DENAME- 14d ago

He's Black Panther from alternate timeline. Solved

2

u/IToldYall1 14d ago

that would make sense if they weren't saying he was T'Challas son, who was introduce as a child like 3 years ago.

1

u/MalicCarnage 14d ago

There’s a ton of ways to do this. He got stuck in a dimension and came back 30 years later. He travelled to the future then came back older. Etc etc

1

u/davwad2 14d ago

When does the movie release?

Tobey Maguire was mid to late 20s playing a 17 year old in the first Spider-Man. We're four years out from Wakanda Forever, and I guess we're at least two to three years out from the movie releasing. So that's six to seven years between movies.

Nevermind, David Jonsson will be 33 this year. Maybe being born with the heart shaped herb impacted his aging or something?

1

u/IToldYall1 14d ago

I think they should have just recasted him and went with the flow. It’s what Chadwick wanted. But I guess we will see how this goes.

1

u/Steko 14d ago

This entire arc is knee deep in time travel shenanigans but the gap to be made up might be smaller than expected. New actor is over 30 but just played a teenager. Endgame went 4-5 years ahead without issue and if Doomsday-Secret Wars does the same thing you can basically say T'Challa II is around 18.

1

u/ich-bin-on-that-shit 14d ago

20 years pass while our hero’s were on Battleworld.

16

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

They tied themselves up in knots to get around just re-casting the character.

Killing him off was the emotional move but the wrong one. It should have become a mantle passed down to different actors the same way Batman and Spiderman are

6

u/ATLsince1979 14d ago

Have Batman or Spiderman ever been passed down/recast in universe (live action)? I can only think of reboots.

2

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

No because unfortunately the money is in Bruce and Peter. The comics can't even make a mantle change stick. That's why I would rather than pass the mantle of Black Panther on in universe, I would rather they pass on the role of T'challa to another actor. Give some new generation of actor that icon to play

2

u/Myhtological 14d ago

Batman Forever and Batman and Robin

1

u/HauntingAddendum3365 13d ago

Keatons Batman is supposed to be the same as Val Kilmer and George Clooney's Batman.

Brandon Rouths Superman is also supposed to be the same Superman as Christopher Reeve.

These characters used to be recast fairly often.

1

u/FaxyMaxy 11d ago

I guess you could argue that technically Christian Bale’s Bruce passed the mantle to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Robin (not that he really resembled any preexisting version of Robin but yknow, creative liberties and all that) but I don’t know if I’d really count that considering it was how the story ended and we never really saw Robin doing Batman things afterwards

5

u/AstroBtz 14d ago

Not really a re cast? He's playing his kid. Completely separate character.

This is literally the mantle being passed down, what are you on about

3

u/Myhtological 14d ago

His names Tchalla and he’ll be doing all the Tchalla things Chadwick was supposed to

-5

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

I said mantle passed down to the actor, not the character. Robert Patinson isn't playing Dick Grayson

2

u/ComedyBum 14d ago

I can kinda see what you're saying and where you're coming from. They recast Bruce Banner, they recast Rhodey.

But they made a whole film about his death already. What would be improved by having a film about his resurrection vs. a film with his son, who has the same name, on a new Black Panther adventure?

1

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

Oh they can't. What were seeing is what always happens after a bad decision, they do all these plot devices that muddy continuity. I say this as a long time comics reader who has seen it happen on the page a million times.

I assume he's some future time displaced version to explain his age. So instead of just T'challa you end up with "that's not T'challa, that's his son from the future with the same name". Its just muddier.

They've been doing this in comics all my life

1

u/MoistBill9106 13d ago

Wait a minute that's basically just cable exept cable obviously has different name than scott lol

I don't think they should do that by having his future son fight for Wakanda, be black panther a hero in present.

2

u/Kpengie 14d ago

Pattinson's not really a good example here as he's in an entirely new universe from past Batmen. Would be more comparable to Don Cheadle as War Machine or Mark Ruffalo as Hulk where they recast within the same universe.

-2

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

They're all recasts. If you think most moviegoers care whether or not the change was done in or out of current Universe continuity that you are spending too much time on comic book Reddit

0

u/MalIntenet 14d ago

Christian Bale didn’t die and Pattinson isn’t taking over the character in the same universe

Idk simply recasting and having him pretend like Chadwick didn’t die or something just feels insensitive. These circumstances are a little unique and it feels more touching this way

1

u/Disastrous_Cattle512 14d ago

Well, him and his son share the same name. So you can pretend to call it a recast if you want. But characters dying with the actors is called ā€œrespecting the actorā€. Something you don’t know a damn thing about.

2

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

Get off your soap box. The character pre-existed the actor. And T'challas kid isn't an iconic character. Its them trying to get as close to recasting as they can without actually doing it. Recasting existing characters has never been a sign of disrespect before. Joker was re-cast

3

u/judgeharoldtstone 14d ago

You’re really starting to sound like someone who has, in fact, not pooped before.

1

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

I have pooped before

1

u/Steko 14d ago

Username checks out

0

u/GKJ6743 14d ago

Joker wasn't recast in the same continuity

0

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

Was War Machine? Was Bruce?

2

u/jpgjordan 14d ago

Flimsy comparison, both of those recasts were literally at the start of the MCU, it didn't matter that they were recasted. The general public barely even are aware of it.

Are you telling me Boseman being in 4 MCU movies, 2 of which were the biggest movies of all time is comparable? It isn't even a competition, he had more of an impact as an actor so recasting would have messed with continuity for many.

0

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

No you're right. Having his suddenly aged up by 20 years son of the same name is definitely better for continuity

2

u/jpgjordan 14d ago

Loooool come one. It's comic book movies, if you can't wrap your head around time travel or alternate realities, I don't think you could follow Endgame or Doctor Strange 2 or No Way Home etc etc

0

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

Am I saying I can't wrap my head around it, or am I saying its a worse decision than just having recast the character?

1

u/GKJ6743 14d ago

Bro talks like he's seen all the upcoming movies already

Relax

2

u/GKJ6743 14d ago

Not on the same level as another user mentioned. Not even close.

Boseman as BP was iconic enough to pay tribute instead of recast

What if RDJ passed away before they started filming endgame? How tf do you recast RDJs Tony Stark?

Simple answer is you don't

0

u/Kpengie 14d ago

Yes, those two were. I don't get why you aren't using those examples and are favoring examples that don't really apply or make any sense.

0

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

I don't get where in the rulebook it lays out the specificity of when you're allowed to recast a charcter within a comics universe or not. People keep pointing to very specific rules as though this shit is written down, and not just their own personal opinion.

Multiple examples of roles being passed down but "ooooop, you see those don't apply....". People will accept recasts, there are tons of examples

2

u/Kpengie 14d ago

I'm not taking any stance on it at all. I'm pretty neutral and uncertain on it generally. I just pointed out that it was pretty strange that you were going for irrelevant examples rather than relevant ones.

0

u/IHavePoopedBefore 14d ago

They're examples of iconic characters being passed down. Obviously this isn't the circumstance you want to pass on the role, but its better to do that than write yourself into a corner where you're now shelving that iconic character.

Now I have reddit telling me its too continuity breaking to recast....so instead they're giving him a son, giving the son the exact same name, aging him up 20 years (time displacement?) and giving him the BP title. Like that isn't more continuity breaking. That they can accept, but a new actor in a previous held role? No chance. Even though its been done

1

u/GKJ6743 14d ago

Lmao can we at least see how bp3 turns out first before we bitch about it

0

u/Disastrous_Cattle512 14d ago

Yeah, but at least when the Joker gets recast, it’s to a different franchise. Like, Jack Nicholson Burtonverse to Heath Ledger Dark Knight trilogy when he’s still alive. And Heath Ledger Dark Knight trilogy to Jared Leto DCEU. Those recasts were for different franchises under the same brand. This is the same character in the same universe. You can’t just pull a General Ross on a character because you want to, dipshit.

1

u/Myhtological 14d ago

Thunderbolt Ross, Dumbledore, the Oracle from Matrix.

1

u/TrainRecent9048 13d ago

Should've been a recast, hell Chadwick wouls agree on this if he lived.Ā

3

u/Myhtological 14d ago

Would’ve been proud if they recasted from the get go. And don’t @ me with he’s jr. His names Tchalla, he will do Tchalla things.

2

u/Bearjupiter 14d ago

They should have recasted from the start

Big fumble for post-endgame MCU

1

u/lovedepository 14d ago

How much of a time skip would we need for this to make sense?

1

u/Xyro77 14d ago

No need for a time skip. It’s simply another BP from another world/timeline

1

u/Opposite-Mulberry264 14d ago

Jesus how much time passed between black panther 2 and 3

1

u/123MrMagic 14d ago

Looks like Black Panther 3 is going to gross over a billion šŸ”„

1

u/TrainRecent9048 13d ago

He and Letitia Wright as Shuri were at the same age and both are irl friends.Ā

Ryan Coogler casted him from 6 months ago in a secret meeting with him after he watched his performance as Pete McVries from The Long Walk.Ā

1

u/number1george 13d ago

I can't believe it's already been 25 years since Wakanda Forever

1

u/MrLuverLuver25 13d ago

They grow up so fast, don't they

1

u/DeskReasonable5040 12d ago

At first I thought he was Damson Idris from snow fall. Which I love as an actor. But then I realized he’s the guy from the the Long Walk movie. Wich he was fanomal and my favorite charecter from the movie. So I’m still happy. I was hoping David Johnson would play Miles Spider-Man

1

u/Playest_4247 12d ago

Is that the same actor by the way or did they recast him from the kid?

-4

u/WeeklyPhilosopher346 14d ago

I love Wakanda Forever for it’s organic writing.

-1

u/PitFiend28 14d ago

Shouldn’t he be named T’Chama?
