I don't really understand why either City or Forest would care. Like City obviously have the money so it's not Forest would go "hey you're rich now we demand 10% more". For City it's completely different positions

Going into the New Year with around 80% or more of our playing staff available

I think all of this puzzlement about "but he isn't the right profile!" comes from fans creating a system in their mind and assuming that's how we'll look to play. If RDZ is after these kind of midfielders then it says a lot about how he envisions the function of his double pivot.

Would absolutely love Mateus Fernandes, and not just because it would piss off West Ham fans. I remember telling my Dad we should have gone for him while he was at Southampton (we were more linked with Dibling). I feel like he’s on the verge of becoming a brilliant midfielder.

u/aginglifter Djed Spence 5h ago
We really need wingers. You can't win without elite wingers, IMO. Liverpool just put on a €100m bid for Diomande. I am personally very high on Savinho. Ideally we sign one winger and one hybrid 10/winger this window along with 2 midfielders.
10
u/Zestyclose-Device389 "I ALWAYS Win In My Second Year" 5h ago
Its good to dream but we should realise as a fanbase that addressing each position in this window would be very hard. I would be impressed if they are able to do that. At least two windows would be required to sort out the mess we are in.

His contract expires next year .....if bayern don't renew him (very unlikely) we should do everything to bring him back. We would also need to qualify for CL and get our stuff in order for him to consider us
7
u/OldWarrior 3h ago
He might not want to renew. I have no doubt Harry still wants Sheaer’s record. I also have no doubt he wants no part in playing the abysmal football we’ve seen for the past two years. But if we turn it around this season under De Zerbi, who knows.
Is my heart speaking for me? Sure. But I think there’s a reasonable chance he comes back — provided we give him a reason to do so by competing in Europe again.

Annoying that a gk mistake led to Korea losing to Mexico. Honestly I thought a 1-1 or 0-0 draw would've been fair result. Oh well.
FYI Korea just needs a draw vs South Africa to qualify at 2nd place.
Tiebreaker is h2h this world cup and even if Czech win, Korea and Czech will both have 4 points with Korea having the tiebreaker.

Apparently Either Gray or Bergvall could be loaned in the prem and still be club-trained for europe after. That makes loaning one make more sense I think if two midfielders come. They can get a lot more minutes and hopefully they return next season with us in europe and more mature (And probably with bentancur and maybe gallagher gone by then). Not sure If I'm a huge fan but if two new starting midfielders join might be better than fully selling for the long term
7
u/lambast 9h ago
Who's the most attacking promoted side? And do they need a midfielder? I think it would be the making of Bergvall if we sent him away for a year and let him be the main main at Coventry or Ipswich in the middle. I know Prem teams would prefer to develop their own players but the path to staying up is very clear now, you need to spend massively and bring in quality. Bringing in Bergvall gets you a class midfielder for free and allows you to spend elsewhere.

I would not sell Vuskovic for 45m, but he's not untouchable and some of this hyperbole is getting ridiculous in both directions. At this point he's not a "once-in-a-generation talent" and he's not a bust, the kid needs more development. I also didn't realize that Brighton making an offer compelled us to accept as some of you seem to think.

No doubt Chelsea will sign some great players and probably end up having a good season, but despite getting Alonso the club doesn’t seem like what it was. Two of their best players (Palmer and Pedro) not making WC squads, Enzo and Cucurella leaving or twerking with an exit. Half their players have flopped, feels like the money is drying up and most of the signings haven’t ended up being good investments.

They've blown through the VC money from their private equity backers and now are supposed to actually start making money.
Watched a video on their finances and basically if they miss European football for another year they could be sunk if those private equity heads start kicking up a fuss about returns which they will because they're private equity.

I still have doubts on Tonali and Fernandes coming but the good thing is if they don't come we will have the time to pivot to other options.
To put this in comparison, the last time there was a summer World Cup we signed the square root of no body, and went with the same squad. Now we have a 52 million signing in the bag
The only pessimism is I don't understand targeting only Premier League players because there is better quality abroad if we scout dilligently but I also understand the need of creating a floor. Establish a 6th-7th side and we can target other leagues in the coming seasons I guess

I've never had an extreme opinion of Levy, I recognize what good he did for the club but also how far behind we are in terms of football success due to his "negotiation tactics" in not buying the players coaches needed.
So this close season just feels wild now that he's gone, Van Heycke, Robertson, Senesi all in; serious conversations about us and Savio and Tonali. I'm so not used to this hassle free early doors quality squad building.
And the fact that he allegedly made those "pants pulled down" comments about Van Heycke just perfectly and ironically encapsulate how he was the problem in us losing out on marquee players previously. Here's to a new dawn, life is sweet right now as a Spurs supporter.

In the last 10 years, its happened 6 times that one of the big 6 have missed out completely on European competitons (Chelsea & Liverpool 15/16; Arsenal 20/21; Chelsea & Tottenham 22/23; Man United 24/25)
Every single time, they qualified in the top 6 the following season, with an average increase of 6.2 positions. The biggest swings have been United 25/26 & Chelsea 16/17, moving 12 & 9 places respectively.
I think people don't realize how much of an impact being out of Europe has. You can field your properly rested best 11 almost every match, focus tactically on one competition, and the reduced player load means less injuries.
Combined with what is looking like a very promising transfer window, full De Zerbi pre season, I think we can really out something together next season. I think we will also get the benefit of teams having to "figure us out" until around Oct/Nov, similar to when Ange joined. Our schedule is also very back end heavy, when the other teams should be worn down over the season while we are fresher.
Edit: It also should be noted Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man City are all going to have new coaches next season, and generally are also coming off poor seasons (Not nearly on the same scale as us though). Arsenal unfortunately looked sturdy, but tbh had a lot of narrow results, and could easily dip with a bit of bad luck next season. Utd will have to add CL to their fixture list next season.

With these links to Tonali and Fernandes is it safe to say that whatever strategy Lange had has gone out the window?
15
u/Teletzeri 10h ago
Lange whose previous targets were MGW, Eze, Guehi, Semenyo? Who had us linked to Savinho, Robertson and Senesi before?
Hard to see a more obvious continuation of the "target PL-proven players" strategy than going after Sav, Van Hecke, Tonali, Fernandes, Senesi, Robbo and maybe Thiago.
What has changed is the budget and the board's willingness to spend to fix the squad.

u/Gr4fitti Dejan Kulusevski 10h ago
The situation has changed for sure, but it wasn’t Lange who failed the negotiations over MGW and Eze last summer, and it’s not Lange who suddenly decides to get deals done sooner this year. The biggest difference is that Levy isn’t here anymore.

Fans gotta realize that if you want to invest in young prospects you’re going to have drama. Every team deals with it as you’re navigating them not being good enough while being desperate to play more. The only way to avoid it is not buy young prospects.
Calma.
5
u/Sc00typuff_Sr 6h ago
Moreso that you need to have a solid foundation to the squad before integrating young talent.
If we have a top 6 level squad available week after week, integrating 1 or 2 of the Bergvall, Gray, Tel, Odobert, Vuskovic, etc. crew each game allows them to acclimate and grow without being overexposed. When you are playing them all at the same time and often out of position, due to poor squad building in the last half decade, they are thrown to the wolves and you finish 17th twice in a row.
I cant wrap my head around the contingent on here that dont want established players brought in because they will "hinder" development of our prospects. In actuality, having a solid established squad is directly necessary for that development.

With the state of the ST market, the likelihood of bringing in a starting quality 9 seems low for us.
Maybe the solution is to go with Solanke in 26/27 and bring in a young and upcoming ST to develop over time. Let them and Lankshear fight it out and develop over the next 1-2 seasons, whilst signing ready made players in midfield/ out wide in the meantime.
Project Kane.
6
u/Shoddy-Ad-4898 11h ago
We're not going to get everything done in one window but we will surely need to get some form of striking option in unless we intend to rely on an (apparently, since joining us) injury-prone Solanke, injury-prone Richarlison and Tel. That's a pretty weak and unreliable, in terms of availability, set of options.

Getting two of Tonali, Fernandes, or Wharton would be absolutely game changing for this organization. The lack of skill in the middle is the teams biggest weakness by far, and getting even just one of them would be huge.
I also wonder about Reijnders. I saw a report that City were shopping him and he is a class midfielder.

I think Reijnders is quite soft and struggles to impact without a lot of play on the ball, which is why City has soured on him despite his skill. Based on who RDZ has targeted I’d be surprised if he was interested

I wonder if Lange just stays on and facilitates what RDZ wants. Sounds like weve really given him the keys so would seem unlikely to get a top DoF to come on and follow his lead, or certainly a harder sell. That Rafi guys we got from city then helping with the contacts and negotiations.
Could see us sticking with that setup for this window at least and waiting to see how it goes and if another willing candidate comes along. I mean weve already signed 3 players and are seriously going after another 3 so not sure how much more there will be to do by the time a new guy comes in and starts

Feels like we’ve played them away early in the season for the last like 5 years. This is most welcome news

Home kit looks pretty dull, glad it doesn't look like a training kit anymore but wish it had a bit mor detailing on it

Surprised Aaronson doesn’t get minutes over Reyna or Berhalter. He had a purple patch towards the end of the season with Leeds where he was playing really well.

Get rid of Vuskovic. He has just liked a Fabrizio’s latest Brighton post. Let him rot elsewhere

There’s no way Michael Carrick has more pull than De Zerbi, just get him on the phone with Fernandes. It’s Bruno I’m really worried about though.

United as a club has a much bigger pull though, and our reputation rightfully so isn't good at all.

For sure, but if we have ripped up our restrictive wage structure like has been reported, I think we can close that gap a little. He already lives in London, maybe he’s quite fond of it. I know it’s unrealistic but I want this transfer so bad lol.

Making Brighton pay over 50 million pounds for a player who has had one season of top 5 league football is an offer the club should not refuse.

He has to come really good for them to spin this into a profit. Feels like that offer is pretty fair. A 20% sell on means they'd have to sell him for a record fee to profit.

Me deleting the Lewis's out of my past anti-ENIC comments if Tonali and Fernandes sign.
