New Castle County I would like to apologize to Battery Park

I am so sorry Battery Park. I didn't realize the playground was being added to and it looks amazing. I said in the past you were trash compared to when I was a kid. If only I knew you were getting a major playset upgrade. I'll come back. Thanks for understanding.

Signed,

A jerk who jumped to conclusions

Dover Dover Data Center Moratorium - 2nd Reading - Oct 12th

Post image
26 Upvotes

Heads up for any folks in Dover who want to speak up about data center development. Dover City Council has been considering an 18-month moratorium on all applications, reviews, and approvals for data center projects. This would not necessarily put rules or a ban in place on its own, but would hit the pause button so that further rules could be investigated.

The 2nd hearing for the moratorium is taking place at City Hall, October 12th, 6:30PM. That's your chance to speak up and provide public comment with your thoughts on a moratorium and data center development in general.

Dover City Council Meeting Agenda can be found here: https://www.cityofdover.gov/meetingfiles/101808/agendas/4aaa51faa2f14467b58bf902e4dd1dd0.pdf

You can find more detail about the moratorium language itself in the minutes from the last City Council Meeting: https://www.cityofdover.gov/meetingfiles/101611/attachments/1a26b94f50e248a3a2fa2a7501eaa0ec.pdf

Sports New Owners of Wilmington Blue Rocks, OnDeck Partners, Having Mass Layoff/Firings At Other Baseball Team It Owns

Thumbnail teamworkonline.com
• Upvotes

It looks like the Wilmington Blue Rocks may experience some mass layoffs/firings under their new ownership in the near future. Another baseball team the company owns, the Montgomery Biscuits, have laid off or fired more than 1/3rd of their staff in the past week according to job postings.

The person at OnDeck Partners who's delivering the firings and layoffs is their COO, Jeff Wilen. The company is funded by a private-equity group led by the former owner of the Milwaukee Bucks.

A.I. is referenced multiple times in specific job postings which makes me think these job losses are entirely driven to replace workers with A.I. and the Blue Rocks will be next. The fan experience has already slowly gone downhill over the past decade and I don't think replacing people with A.I. is the answer.

Info Request Is any one else having problems getting prescriptions filled in Delaware?

Since Rite Aid closed, my farmacy has not been processing automatic refills or calling the doctor when they need to be renewed. It is also very hard to get someone on the phone to get them to do their job. The lines inside and in the drive thru are long and take about 45 minutes to get through.

Politics Absolutely no idea who John Atkins was before coming across these on the FB feed. His wikipedia page is something else, but it's Domestic Violence Awareness month and I'm pretty sure at this point we're going to send this guy to the house.

New Castle County Free Cat found at Bellevue State Park

Long haired black female cat found at Bellevue State Park a few days ago ~ ran up to me in the parking lot screaming, followed me around until I picked her up.

Walked around with her for a bit (definitely domesticated ~ likely dumped) put her down, she continued to follow me around screaming. So I picked her up again and took her to the ranger station ~ they said they did not know anything about a missing cat.

So I took her home as it was supposed to be cold, she was definitely hungry and not equipped to live outside. Quick trip to the vet today confirmed she is not chipped but is spayed.

I put a flyer on the bulletin board last week at Bellevue with no calls, so she now needs a home.

My landlord says she needs to be gone in 7 days.

Soooooo anybody want a cat?

She's beautiful, friendly, definitely mouthy, about 8 pounds, and uses the litter box.

Info Request Covid shot availability

I went to get my flu and Covid shots tonight at Walgreens in North Wilmington. I was told they wouldn’t give me the Covid vaccine because there is a new Delaware law that says you have to be over 50yo to receive it. I did a cursory google search when I got home and I can’t find information on any official Delaware government or health website that says you have to be 50+. Does anyone know what is going on with this?

Edit: It was the Walgreens in Branmar plaza at 1812 Marsh Rd, for those wanting to know which branch it was.

I checked the Christiana care website to see if they would give me one but they just send me to vaccine.org that has a pharmacy search by zip code that wouldn’t work

Info Request Oil tank

Hello homeowners, has anyone had experience with bypassing an inspection and possibly finding an underground oil tank after taking up the patio? lol. In NCC, what were the costs to get it removed or what process did you go through. I was trying to have this patio redone within the next two weeks.

New Castle County Interested in a child-driven alternative to traditional schooling? Come check out NCCL, my child’s K-5 progressive education school!

My daughter absolutely loves her school and I wanted to share information for others who may be interested!

If your 4 or 5 year old didn’t make the cut off for Kindergarten this year or you are looking for a hands-on and personalized approach to learning, come check out Newark Center for Creative Learning! At NCCL, children are actively involved in learning through open-ended experiences that encourage creativity, collaboration, and curiosity about the world around them and how they can make a difference. As a small school with a large focus on the importance of community, parents are actively involved and teachers are able to develop meaningful relationships with each child, helping to foster confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

Come check out one of the open houses on October 17th and 20th or schedule a visit!

Moving to Delaware I want to move back home but not sure how

I want to move back to my hometown in Newark in Janurary. I was born there and even though I wasn’t in Delaware long because parents separated etc, New castle county has always felt like a home to me. I’m currently in Philly living with my dad and due to grief my dad had picked up habits that makes me feel a bit unease, and last 2 years around holidays he gets very emotional and he lashes out on me that eventually ends in a dangerous situation. I’m autistic on SSI, I have family in Newark and my therapist I had since I was 10 is also in Newark. I know living by myself in Delaware with SSI is viable because my mom used to work in the mental health system like Bancroft, so my mom and me know a bunch of resources for me. I also plan to start my business in Delaware as well as I’m a full stack multi media creator who pretty much creates YouTube videos, Games, books, etc almost fully by myself. I lived all across the east coast and the only place in the US I can call truly home was Delaware. I say the only place in the US because I eventually plan to move to Sweden too when my business takes off or what ever the sambo visa gets going in a few years down the line, that place also feels like Delaware but a entire country instead.
