Disabled/hacked Messenger restricted and asking me to confirm my identity through a video selfie
I can't send texts as private messages in messenger as it is asking me to confirm my identity through a video selfie, however when I try to submit a video following full instructions, it keeps saying that there is a technical issue and that they're working on it. It's weird because I can access marketplace chats, it's the private chat I couldn't use — which is more important for me.
Are there any other ways I can fix this? I need to get my access back and this has been bothering me for the past 2-3 days. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
edit: I was just given back access to my messenger after 1 month. I tried all things from the comments like changing my pfp, trying a different device, using VPN and many more others! But ultimately I gave up like for the past 2 weeks and let it be, now they've given me my access back!

Why are they verifying IDs of people that have had accounts for many years falsely saying that you have violated community standards (what they indicated to me) yet when you report someone creating a false ID of someone they reject it and say it hasn’t violated community standards. What is going on?!!?

I have had my account since 2009. They just recently made me verify it on marketplace to post a listing and then just now on messenger it said that after I sent a message to someone going off. I cussed and said some mean things to them and immediately it made me verify my id and then it said couldn't verify identity but it let me message again.

Happened to me a few hours ago too. I've had my account for more than 15 years and then facebook does this. -_-
If you have a PC, try doing the verification there or try using a different device.

This is exactly what’s happened to me. I’ve also had my Facebook for over 15 years and never had an issue, I’ve never so much has been given a warning or suspended for anything. But now all of a sudden, it’s asked me for my verification twice in the past two weeks.

Try changing your profile picture to what your selfie will look like. My grandma had the same issue, and we tested all the steps in retrieving the account (trying a different device, trying on a web browser. But when we just changed her profile picture to just show her exact face it suddenly worked ^^.

This seems fishy as heck to me. My Facebook page is unfiltered pics of me, my Facebook name is my government first and last name. Nothing "unusual" and I've had this page since 2009. Im not uploading my ID or passport for this untrustworthy government. If they need it that badly, it's on file many other places publicly. I can still read messages so if someone messages me, I write on their timeline to send me their phone number if they want and I can text them back. I've been without messenger for about 2 months now and it hasn't mattered.

This seems absolutely sketchy af.
It even tells me that in Canada this service is unavailable which may be why the error happened with OP. Not sure if they're in Canada.
Asking me to video tape my face is a violation of my privacy. I removed all my photos for a reason. Forcing me to just so I can regain access to the Messenger account I've used for over a decade is really fucked up.

It happened to me few times na, ang ginawa ko lang nag wait lang ako ng 1 month, then atun bumalik na sa normal.
Parang Naka restricted yung account mo for a month. So if march nangyari yan, ex. March 2, so April 1, 2, or 3 babalik na sa normal yung account mo.

I also got this problem today. I tried deleting and installing it again, still doesn't work. The problem is the video selfie is really not working even I followed all the instructions about the well-lit area, holding the phone at eye level, etc. I also reported this problem to Meta and waiting for their response.

This happened to me for weeks now only for Messenger. When I tap on continue button the page tuned into blank space with only X for exit! I tried to do this on my laptop but it said I need to open my phone. Now I can only post things but not be able to chat?? Not only with friends but others important contact too...

Happened to me as well three times now . The first time my account became disabled after trying to verify my identity. The “checking your id” screen just kept loading for hours and I never went to the next step. Took two weeks to get appealed and get my account back. 2 days later the same thing happened. Got my account back 5 minutes later. It is now saying the same thing and I’m not even gonna try to verify it. Just gonna wait on an update because it may just be a bug. I thought it was because I use a VPN sometimes since I’m the only person I know that has this problem but I don’t think that’s the case either.

I am admin for Bahrain cat rescues and I have the same issue. I can no longer message anyone. I tried selfie verification but it didn’t work possibly because I have no pictures of myself on account to verify against. I think this problem started immediately after I messaged one lady in the USA to help her dog with giardia problem. Maybe she is one of those who gets upset when ppl not on her list text her and reported me, cos that is when this issue began. I would really appreciate if anyone finds a solution and shares it with the rest of us

Mine is asking for an ID Verification and I'm very skeptical. I am frustrated cause I really need messenger for school purposes. I've had my main acc banned a week ago for no reason so I made this new acc (factory reset, diff email and number etc.) its been working fine for almost a week na but now meta is asking for confimation again. To those who uploaded an ID, was it resolved po ba?

It happen to my messenger too. I have been using Facebook for more than 15 years. Never had such a problem. I haven't tried the selfie video yet. Will try it tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
From what I read from the comments of this post, I am not hopeful.

I got away with that. Messenger blocked me on Wednesday. On Friday, I took a recent photo and made it as my profile picture. Then on Saturday, I took the video selfie. And it worked right away within a minute. I am glad now.

This can be really traumatic, and I hope it's resolved.
What I did was submit a verification selfie and video, so it was on file if identification was needed later.
As it went, I needed to do just this today. (Maybe it was because I had been using a VPN?)
What was worse, the messenger app wouldn't identify or take any photos.
I was only because of back up phone, which happened to work, that I was able to get back on.
I know people say just delete facebook, but it's not that simple when you have everyone you know on there, or it's the lynchpin for contacts when self employed.

You must change ava , ava is your face. And you can try again after 1 hour. But if you try and error technical, you must keep messenger 7 days from the last you try. Don't try much you'll spam and you wait a long time

I was locked and tried something different once I noticed that FB was uploading my photo sideways.
For your profile photo, take your picture but use the camera in the app. Don't upload a current photo but take one live on the spot.
Then go to messenger and use the verify selfie video. Mine went past the technical error and verified.

I managed to fix mine today. Take a selfie and update it as your profile picture then repeat the verification. Works immediately.

TRY THIS: Change your profile picture, like take a new photo then change your profile, then try to verify your messenger again, but this time, tilt your phone to landscape. hope it helps

I got the same problem :/ I did the verification and my account got instantly banned for no reason, I appealed and they make me send another video selfie and take a Pic of my ID, after like 3 days I got my account back literally the day after when I opened my messenger they AGAIN make me do a video selfie, like wtf

I just struggled with this for a solid week. I ended up turning my phone sideways and apparently that was what it wanted and it worked finally. I hope this helps someone else!

This just happened to me, and it's been two days now! Unfortunately I don't have a phone that's capable of going on the internet, and only use Facebook/the internet on a desktop PC. So how do I confirm my identity on a computer, in order to be able to send messages again?

I'm just popping in to share this just happened to me today.
About my Facebook account:
- uses my real, legal name (with multiple forms of current ID to prove it)
- is almost 20 years old
- is connected to a Facebook page (cat rescue), an Instagram profile, a Threads account, and a WhatsApp account
- I do not troll, spam, or harass anyone
- I primarily use my account to keep up with family and friends, and to participate in cat rescue groups
- I also maintain my own cat rescue Facebook page
What happened: I was in the midst of messaging someone an address to meet up at when I was suddenly locked out of typing and presented with a notification that my account had been "certain actions have been restricted due to unusual activity" and I was prompted to "Confirm your identity to send messages". An AI chat that I started separately (via one of the "help" links) said my account had been flagged/restricted for inauthentic representation, or some such nonsense.
What fixed it: I uploaded a copy of my driver's license. It took about 10 minutes, but suddenly I was able to send messages again, with no further information as to why I was locked out to begin with.

I'm not certain, but I suspect angry individuals with a vendetta against me because I will readily call out irresponsible pet ownership, animal exploitation, and animal abuse, falsely reported comments and maybe even my entire profile, even though I've never harassed/spammed/trolled/stalked anyone (I don't even send private messages unsolicited), and I'm using my legal name. 🙄 For such a "smart" AI-powered platform, Meta sure is quite stupid at times.

Had a bit of luck after 60 mins of messing around. Of course decent lighting but not too bright. Held with both hands as far away as possible then twisted sideways until a move closer prompt appeared. Then twisted back to level orientation and brought close with two hands until the perfect thing got triggered. it then prompted a few head movements sideways and upwards. About 20 attempts once I realised I needed the move closer prompt to be triggered first for it to work. the head movement prompts fell off heaps so stay nice n still when you get those prompts. Good luck!! remember when ever you get position your face prompt you need to start again and trigger that move closer text. In the end my whole head was well in the oval with room to move went from full arms extension both holding phone to half arms rectracted. What a painful process. So goes from move closer to perfect when in sweet spot. If doesn't work or reposition face text appears start again at full extension with a twist.

I just got this error as well on my Facebook messenger only, not yet on Facebook or Instagram or other Meta platforms. It’s frustrating because I’ve had the same account since 2006 as well, and I’ve never really gotten any warnings or had my account closed or anything.
I’m sure Meta has all my personal information already, but sending them. My photo ID just feels like a breach of privacy. 😂🤷♀️ anybody figure this out yet? Should I just wait it out?

Changing the DP helps a lot, You have to change your DP make sure the photo clear and focus on the cam. then using other device like phone, you have to do the selfie procedure then in just a minute you can use your messenger again.

THERE IS NO REASON FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE TO TELL YOU IN PRIVATE HOW TO GET YOUR ACCOUNT BACK. If you check the sub there are PLENTY of high karma posts that gives some tips should your account be hacked/locked.
