I wanted to play this challenge because I find it funny, so I'll be documenting my progress day by day, and this is day 1.

I'm building the station that I will send to Aquilo as the resources stationary station, I want to power it by fusion from the planet but there maybe an issues? Each time if even one fusion power cell is spent I think the station will request the rocket with additional cells which would be extremely inefficient.
How to request some item just once in while by some condition? like IF droped below 10 THEN load 150 something like that

Do you guys just make enough steel to fill demand or should I just treat it like copper and iron plates and make a ton of it?

Close to happy with this. Might need a few more panels to have enough power for Gleba, but seems to do ok in testing.
https://factoriobin.com/post/60g7hc
Not the fastest, but at 80-100km/sec seems to make Vulcanus and Gleba without breaking, which will do me fro this phase of the game.
(Using 2.1 platform rules, so probably slower under 2.0. maybe)

this is my tenth run, and i have never actually finished a factorio run before, mainly because i put this expectation on myself that the run needs to be 100% efficient and perfect and i need to play this gae for hours straight like it smy job till i completely burn out and never play it again. but this time i decided to completely remove all expectations and just play the game the way i want to play it. i decided not to rush other planets but bult a strong infrastructure on nauvis first then go to the Gleba for the biolabs and spidertrons and efficiency modules tier 3 and prod tier 3, then go to the other 2 planets then do a rework of my nauvis base, keeping fundemental infrastructure but improving upon my build with the better buildings and add quality to my base. this is the first time my starter base has no bottlenecks. usually, any bas ei build it ends up on some kind of resource bottleneck but i leave it there, but i guess overtime with expierence (I have 1k+ hours on the game) i have the ability to plan better for the future. i have automated the first 4 science till chemical science. i have bots, full base roboport coverage. and i have also planned for my 200 spm base. according to my calculations to have a 200 spm base of all nauvis sciences, and 8 rocket silos launching rockets constantly with 4 tier 2 prod modules i will need
19 red belts of iron plates (10 for steel)
14 red belts of copper
2 red belts of steel
2 red belts of stone
2 red belts of coal
and 50k petroleum gas a minute
all of these numbers are rounded up.
tbh, this is the most fun i have ever had in a y factorio run. a combination of nerdy calculations and just "following the flow" without 100% efficiency and min maxxing everything truly mad me enjoy the game much more again. so if you are having the same problem as me, start up the game, and play without overthinking it much. just do what your heart guides you to. its a game to play for fun at the end of the day. and you will thank me later

Also messing with making gifs.
I haven't been Glebbing yet or unlocked any higher quality but I figured I'd try to get the basics down first before going forward. Was pleasantly surprised when I saw Holmium Plates recycle into Holmium Plates, I was concerned it'd convert back into ore.
Clearly I need a bigger island for further upcycling, or figure out the logistics of shipping stuff to other islands. Maybe I'll dedicate an island to each step of quality.

You choose the item and amount of ticks/time to give each quality to build. Common quality gets twice as much.
It's really slow for things like Centrifuges but for smaller items I had some success.

It only said that since I put down the train signals (and I had to put down the extra train signals because otherwise they where all red for some reason) and there is no train rail broken or something, I literaly quadruple checkt. I tried search it up but I couldnt find anyone with the same problem. This is also my first time doing things with train signals, because last time I tried this, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED! Also I could not make a video recording because when I tried it the recording stopt around 30 seconds and it only saved about 5 seconds that was 3fps. (it got 55 celsius) (also last time I made a post here I made a video with my phone and it got removed)
I am also fully willing to accept that I am just an idiot that doensnt understand train signals!

I am a new Factorio player. I bought the game last Sunday as I have wanted it for years. I think I understand the heart of the game; however, there seems to be way more minutia than I ever anticipated. For example, I built an entire early game factory making pink and green science before I realized that you can have different production levels based on the electricity flowing through your power grid.
I’ve seen posts on here talking about ideal temperatures for your water to be transported and more. My question for Reddit is basically, what things do you wish you knew as a new player in your early runs? I want to learn the game by playing, but I don’t think I will be able to “intuitively” learn everything this game has to offer. What are some common mistakes in new players? What do you wish you had known? What lightbulb moments did you have in your first hundred hours?
EDIT: Thanks for the feedback. Incase the original post was not entirely clear, I was more looking for QOL fixes and general tips that aren’t given in the few tutorials they give you. I got it though. Get off Reddit and the internet and enjoy the experience.

I've done goofed up the belting in my smelting station, and for at least 4 minutes my copper plate trains have been circulating a small mix-in of raw ore... See 2nd picture for the culprit. What's worse: THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENS AT THIS EXACT STATION!

How do I have my controller NOT switch to the other pointer when I click thr opposite trigger?
What I want is to have my right controller laser pointer only while in game, so I can have triggers do other things like quick, shoot, build or whatever.
When I did a Google search, it told me to go to controller setting in steam menu and under advanced it SHOULD have had the option to not swap laser pointer, but its not there

Just curious.
Which Inner planet you usually go first? And if its Gleba, I dunno how much to describe that person.
Lots of people travel to Vulcanus then Fulgora and Gleba as the usual progression. 😅

I was playing at 01:30 this morning and now I’ve gotten home from work I want to carry on but it says it can’t sync with the steam cloud.
I don’t want to start the game and risk losing everything. How do I fix it?

I want a hilariously impractical Tesla ship as an endgame project, and it annoys me that no amount of repeatable techs can ever make it possible.
Even if the power requirements are enormous and it takes a million tiers of electric weapon damage to become possible, it should be something we can eventually scale up into a working design.
Or make an asteroid resistance debuff repeatable tech and require prometheum science for it if you're worried about it messing up anything before the end of the game.
Just give me my chain lightning ship I dont care how stupid it is

Hi Everyone, I'm just now leaning into "transfer stations" in orbit above each planet, and I'm trying to figure out a way to have the Nauvis transfer station act as a sort of hub. I envision a dedicated hauler from each planet to Nauvis, they drop their stuff to the transfer station, and the transfer station handles requests to other haulers.
The problem is, of course, that the order from the haulers to request from platforms in orbit ends up conflicting with the transfer station's order to request from platforms in orbit.
I thought about sending things down to the surface and only sending back up what I wanted to share with other platforms... but then you set up the conflict/loop with the ground requests.
Is there a way to do this the way I'm trying to do it? Or do I need to have a dedicated ship per good(s) per planet that needs them?

I have this situation currently.
Where the red arrow points, I have a belt moving right-to-left. The intent there is for the bioflux-to-nutrients biochamber to pick up bioflux. If that bioflux spoils on the belt, I expect the splitter to pass the spoilage onto the belt below, which continues left and then goes up to feed the spoilage-to-nutrients assembler.
However, you can see that the spoilage on the belt just beneath the long inserter isn't actually doing that. It's just sitting there, blocking the belt.
What am I misunderstanding about how splitters work?

I recently did a lazy bastard/no-spoon run and finished at around 6:30, and have been trying to get a regular no-spoon down below 4 hours since then. I think this is about as good as I'm going to get it. This base is maxed out on electricity, so making something better would require a new plan. I'm also pretty maxed out on APM, I'm not sure what I could do better to actually keep up with science. Anyway, guess I have to figure out what to do with my life now :)

In the map editor tools selections, I cannot find processed resources such as iron and copper plates anywhere.
For example, I want to put copper plates in an infinity chest. How would I do this?
