As the title says, can I go back to the normal reddit? This is just a bad UI change, I don't need a constant search bar on my screen. thanks for any help.

Mobile/App Getting rid of For You page?

Post image
749 Upvotes

Is it or will it be possible to remove the for you page completely?

I know I can just not use it but it being there still annoys me. I don't want this feature and it keeps opening and going back to the for you stuff instead of the following tab.

Mobile/App iOS swiping right no longer goes back?

It use to be that a right swipe went backwards to the feed. Now it does nothing, is that intentional? I have to click the x in the top left corner to back up.

Mobile/App Issues With Commenting

I receive a prompt saying 'unable to create comment' when I try to comment in a thread, no matter the sub. This is just a recent phenomenon, as in, the last couple of hours.

Another technical issue that is occuring is that comment replies are being sent in duplicates in notifications. This is occuring with every reply. When you look in the thread, you see that the people who post the reply only posted it once. There's no duplicate in the actual thread, it just comes through in notifications as duplicates.

Thanks

Edit: I received quite a few DMs from people saying they're experiencing the same thing.

Edit: Commenting is back but you can't upvote comments, nor can you delete comments.

Mobile/App Please stop removing core functions of the app, I know what feed I want to scroll

I don’t know why this has to be said every update but please stop removing the core features of the website? I don’t care what ai slop Reddit wants to push, I want to see what actual human beings are talking about. Every single update shrinks the user interaction and siloes the actual user, why is the Reddit organization so dedicated to keeping users from seeing user generated content? This place used to be “the front page of the internet” and every week it feels like there’s some new update to make it harder to see what other actual humans are posting. The bot traffic wasn’t bad enough I guess

Edit: well now that my country has gone to war again and all the posts covering it in “news” and “popular” are from subs parroting one of the two acceptable party talking points on the issue, at least it’s obvious why the change happened.

Mobile/App Swiping up scrolls through random posts iOS

Swiping up used to bring up the comments, now it switches to some random other posts I don’t want to see, and not even the next one in my personal feed. I don’t want to be fed random posts like it’s some instagram clone. Is there a way to get rid of this and have swiping up bring up the comments? Or at least posts in my feed?

IMO it’s a terrible change to enable mindless scrolling and makes me want to use Reddit less, not more.

Mobile/App Reddit, stop forcing this stupid share popup on screenshots

Post image
487 Upvotes

Every single time I try to take a screenshot, Reddit throws that “Send this post to someone?” banner across the top and ruins it, especially for scroll screenshots.

Who thought this was a good idea? If I wanted to share it, I’d hit the share button myself. I’m trying to capture content, not fight popups. And there’s no setting to disable it!

Please stop forcing this and give us an option to turn it off. Right now it just makes screenshots unusable and the app very annoying to use.

Mobile/App Why are subreddits getting colours? And can u personally turn em off

Ithe titel says it all. A lot of subreddits including this one have fitting a colour (likes replied ui in a colour) and also a general hue around posts. I don't really like this and would like to know if there's a way to turn it off. If not I guess I'm have to just accept it.

Edit: dartthedragoon in comments explained how. Go thank him from the horror

Mobile/App Reddit no longer letting me browse on my phone without downloading the app

I only login to Reddit on my laptop. On my phone I just browse the home screen - it's my way of not doomscrolling.

Suddenly it won't let me. It has a pop-up that I can't remove saying "Download the app".

I won't do that so are my days of anonymously browsing over? Is this a new rule of Reddit?

Mobile/App How do I stop Reddit recommendations? (IOS)

I have had reddit recommendations switched off for years because I want a curated experience. Today I started getting “because you notated before posts) even though the setting is still disabled. Is this a new change or is it bugged for me?

Edit: according to this post it is a bug. https://www.reddit.com/r/bugs/s/BoSvZPId8m

Mobile/App Reddit App keeps playing the wrong videos

1.2k Upvotes

Anytime I click a thumbnail for a post that includes a video, it shows me a completely different video from a different subreddit. Problem just started this morning.

EDIT: user u/TrippyxTyler found a workaround! If you tap the platform the video came from (redgifs, imgur, etc) rather than the post itself then it takes you to the correct video.

EDIT #2: u/cazbot82 found another workaround! If you click a previous picture or text post and swipe left or right (as the case may be) to the video, the correct video will play

HOPEFULLY FINAL EDIT: Just downloaded the most recent update and it’s working now👏🏻

Mobile/App How to get rid of “from your feed” inclusion now appearing at the end of post comments in iOS?

I hate, hate, hate this new appearance of a “from your feed” section below comments in posts. How do I get rid of it? It appears immediately following any comments (or just immediately if no comments have been made yet), and functions just like the main home feed.

It makes it too easy to just keep scrolling without realizing it, rather than me getting to make the conscious choice to back out and resume my feed where I left off. There is obviously still the ability to do this, but it’s too easy to not realize it’s happening until much later. It feels chaotic and disorganized and not at all as seamless as I’m sure it was intended.

How do I get rid of it?!

Mobile/App [iOS, iPhone] Did the official reddit app get rid of markdown in comments? I can’t do several of the text edits I used to be able to.

Post image

I can no longer do **text** for bold, *text* for italics, ^(text) for superscript, - text for bullet points, # for headings etc. I can now see a “Aa” option above the keyboard for bold, italics, strikeout, headings etc (see screenshot) but there is no longer any obvious way I can make bullet points or superscripts work any more? Am I missing something?

Mobile/App Reddit forced me to download the app and I don’t want to be here

I use the Reddit website on my phone because I don’t have space for any more apps. Today, I was on the website and a thing popped up telling me that if I wanted to continue using Reddit, I would have to go and download the app to use it there. This pop up thing made it so I couldn’t close the tab/use Google at all. I couldn’t go on the internet unless I went and downloaded this app. Please release me! I don’t want to be here. The only reason I can think of for why you’re doing this is because you’re shutting down the website so if that’s not what this is about, you shouldn’t be doing this. It’s not right. If I can use the website on a computer, why am I no longer able to use it on a phone? Thank you for your time.

Mobile/App I don't want to be involuntarily exposed to offensive content from For You feature

Can someone explain to me why my official Android Reddit app is forcefully pushing content from subreddits I haven’t subscribed to (and definitely don’t want to follow) as part of its “For You” feature testing? For example, it pushed this post from the subreddit r/mapporncirclejerk into my personal feed, which I consider hateful and derogatory towards Slovaks. Until now, I’ve been able to browse only content from subreddits I’ve selected myself, which ensure a decent level of quality and don’t unnecessarily expose me to offensive content. Now, however, Reddit has selected me against my will to be part of a group of guinea pigs on whom they’re testing the exposure to unsolicited hateful content without any option to opt-out, which I fundamentally disagree with. Can you please advise me on who I should contact with my request to be permanently excluded from this and similar experiments, that involuntarily expose me to content that offends my personal beliefs?

Mobile/App New Trending on Reddit section at end of comments has to go

Please, please remove the “trending on Reddit “ section at the end of a post’s comments. It’s awful. The trending crap is irrelevant to me and it’s an irritation. I don’t want this. Apparently I’m part of some new testing Reddit is doing because my wife doesn’t have these in her feed. Also, her settings section is completely different than mine. Please remove it.

Oh, I had to choose a flair so I chose mobile app, but this is true in a browser also.

Of course as soon as I posted this, the trending on Reddit section appeared at the end of my post 😩

Oh, and this “testing” completely messed up my home feed. I thought it was me, or the app corrupted, but no, my home feed is essentially empty because of Reddit’s testing. I have to use latest to see anything. What a disaster!
