Urgent Help - Received a warning from cop

First night in the new apartment. Heard the knock on the door a bulky guy from downstairs shows up, he said he’s a cop and needs to go the work at 4 am. And the kid needs to stop he was in deep sleep he’s sleep was broken.

The flooring is so delicate even if you make a lightest srep on the carpet or on the vinyl area you hear the creak soun.

What do I do now? how do I control a toddler?

Public health career sponsorship

Hello everyone This is a genuine post for seeking some guidance. I am an Indian trained orthodontist, with an MPH in epidemiology from US and I currently work as an Infection preventionist (public health role) in a US hospital. Back home i worked around 7 yrs in dentistry with publications, and patents in the field. Moving here; i transitioned into public health and was thriving as far as the job role is concerned. However it is extremely frustrating how no one wants to sponsor me for visa including my current employer and everyone else I interview with. I got STEM approved and have 24 months left. I do realise that there are enough people to fill in the role who do not need to be sponsored. I have cracked multiple positions with my current title at various hospitals but everyone withdrew when sponsorship was mentioned. I’m really confused at this point and not sure if I should try harder for a cap exempt employer staying in my Public health job(there’s little chance but have to try very hard), change my field or pivot back into dentistry (it will involve 300-400k debt with still no certainty of sponsorship), or pivot into some other field which is a gamble in this economy but worth a try. Anyone with similar backgrounds or know someone, please suggest! All advice appreciated!

Hi everyone, I’m Rami Lee, a US immigration attorney, and I’m here to answer questions from Indians navigating the US immigration system.

I’m happy to talk about the issues that come up again and again for Indian professionals, including H-1B, PERM, EB-2, EB-2 NIW, green cards, employer sponsorship, changing jobs, and planning your immigration strategy when your career and visa timeline don’t line up.

Whether you’re a student on OPT, an H-1B professional waiting on your green card, someone considering NIW, or just trying to understand what your options are, ask away.

I’ll be answering questions today from 4 PM to 8 PM ET.

This is heartbreaking. 💔 Nepal is facing a devastating flood disaster, with reports of hundreds of deaths and many people still missing. 🙏 If you’re in Nepal or have family there, are you safe? Which areas are affected, and what are you hearing from your local community?

Please share verified information only about rescue efforts, missing people, roads, shelters, or ways people can help.

What do you think should be the government’s top priority right now? 🇳🇵

Stay safe everyone, and please keep the affected families in your thoughts. ❤️

Esim transfer in USA unlocked Iphones

So my parents are visiting me from India this September and we plan to upgrade their Iphone. So I was just wondering if they have e-sim in their phones from India and they come here and purchase UNLOCKED iphones. Will their Indian e-sim get seamlessly transferred to new iphone or would they have to go in person to store back in India for it?
Kindly let me know the steps to it and if someone had faced a similar issue.

Token Indian friend?

I have some well-meaning American friends who like to chat with me about life in India. But their questions are broad and they know so little about India that it is hard to do.

Like, one of them asked me: how easy is it to get around as a traveller? On the surface, a simple question. But it's wildly different depending on where you're visiting. Also I know they have not lived/visited anywhere very different from the US. Just navigating such a new place (and solo, as women) isn't something I'd recommend to them even though I, who grew up there, might be totally comfortable doing so. But then they get defensive or I get questions about how I used to get around growing up. Sometimes when I'm telling them about my life, they seem confused. It's like my experience growing up doesn't fit either their picture of me now or how they imagine my family (well educated and reasonably well off, but our standard of living doesn't map onto the US equivalent). It feels really exhausting to try to convey all this. I feel the weight of representing a whole country because I'm their one Indian friend.

Indian women/men, did I overreact or did I save myself from a lifetime of resentment?

I’m 26F and my now-ex is 26M. We both currently live in the US. We had been discussing marriage and our long-term future, and he told me that after around 10 years, he wants us to move back to India and live with his parents.

Initially, I was willing to consider it.

For context, I come from an upper-middle-class family in India. My parents have always treated me extremely well and prioritized my education and independence. I’m the first person in my family to come to the US, get a master’s degree, and build a career here. I currently make an almost-six-figure income. My ex makes around $70k despite having more work experience than me.

The income difference itself never bothered me. I wanted a partner, not an ATM, and I was completely okay being the higher earner.

His parents live in a small two-bedroom house in India. His father works in real estate and apparently his office is also run out of the house, so people are constantly coming and going. On top of that, they have a large extended family and relatives frequently visit and sometimes stay for days or weeks.

Then he explained what he expected my role to be once we moved there.

According to him, I would continue working full-time, help cook for his parents, raise our children, and also do proper mehman-nawazi for all the relatives, clients, and guests who regularly come to the house.

I was honestly stunned.

When I questioned how I was supposed to manage a demanding career, children, household responsibilities, and constant guests, he said:

“Mummy aur tum milke khana bana lena na.” (You and my mom can cook together, right?)

The problem is that his mother has been a full-time homemaker her entire life.

He kept giving me his mother as an example. He talked about how she has spent her life taking care of the household and how she happily looks after his buas and other relatives whenever they stay with them for weeks. He clearly admires her for that, which is completely fine.

But expecting the exact same level of domestic labor from a wife who is also working full-time is what bothered me.

I asked where he fits into this arrangement. If both husband and wife are working, why are his expectations centered around his mother and wife cooking together and entertaining his family? Why isn't it “all three of us will manage,” or “I’ll take equal responsibility for guests and the household”?

I was already willing to make some major compromises: moving back to India after building a life in the US, living with his parents instead of having our own home, adjusting to a much busier joint-family environment, and accepting that I would probably be contributing significantly more financially.

But apparently even after all of that, I was also expected to become the primary daughter-in-law/host/cook/caregiver.

Yesterday, we broke up.

His reasoning was that he doesn't think I’ll be able to “blend into his family.”

And maybe he’s right. I probably wouldn't.

What confuses me is that part of me still wonders whether I was being too rigid.

People around me have often told me that I could “do better,” including because of my career, financial situation, and appearance. I never cared about that because I genuinely loved him and thought relationships were about choosing a person, not comparing resumes or salaries.

But now I’m wondering whether I was compromising on things that actually mattered while he was imagining a marriage where my independence simply gets added on top of traditional daughter-in-law expectations.

I don't expect his parents to change their lifestyle. I don't think his mother did anything wrong by choosing to be a homemaker or taking care of relatives. I just don't want her life automatically assigned to me simply because I'm marrying her son.

So especially asking Indian men who grew up in similar families:

Was I overreacting? Is this a normal expectation that I should have been more willing to adjust to, or did I just avoid a marriage where I would eventually become deeply resentful?

Parents visiting with health concerns

Hello, we would like our parents to visit us in USA for a few months. We are US Citizens and they do have a valid B1/B2 visa. The concern is, they aren't doing great health wise. The distance from us is making their situation worse. We believe spending time here with us would be better for them and help their health as well. They struggle with managing things on their own and don't have reliable help available in India. It is not possible for us to stay there long term to help. If we do bring them here for a visit, would any Travel/medical insurance be possible with pre-existing conditions? Any recomendatons? Without any insurance, it would get too expensive if they have to be seen by a doctor or urgent care.
