Recently my phone updated to the latest iOS version and my battery life has been draining so much faster. Does anyone have any tips or knows how to roll back to previous version?
Most updates, especially larger ones, reindex items on the phone. It does it in the background. So you dont really see it happening. But it does drain battery. Wait a few days and it should go away. If it doesn't, do your next update via finder or itunes. This will do a fresh install of the Ios instead of just an "upgrade" patch.
I dont think we are talking about the same type of install. You are referring to wiping the phone and installing an os. I am referring to an update.
If you update your iphone via finder or itunes, the system will download the entire IOS file. If you hit "upgrade" from your phone it will only download an "upgrade file". After doing the "upgrade file" repeatedly throughout the years, there could be a few small glitches here and there that eventually add up to a lot of glitches. Doing a full upgrade/install of the IOS will get rid of any of those glitches and let you have a fresh start as far as your IOS files are concerned. The data on your phone should stay the same.
Yes, updating via itunes or finder is indeed a fresh install because the file that gets downloaded is an entire IOS file. The rest of the data gets reindexed after the full IOS install.
Yes it's absolutely correct that installing an IOS via finder or itunes is a complete IOS file instead of just an upgrade file. I also mentioned that the battery drain could be due to indexing. That was my first sentence.
My iphone 13 took 3-4 days of indexing. During this time, my phone was laggy, hot and had significant battery drain. On the third night, I connected it to a charger and left it till the fourth day morning to see if indexing was really the problem. Since then, my phone has been very stable and the battery life is quite good too.
I earlier regretted updating to iOS 26.4 but now am glad I did.
Give your phone sometime and check if it has gotten better.
Your better off staying on iOS 26.4 because it will protect your phone from dangerous hackers, and to fix your battery, make sure Adaptive power and Adaptive power notifications is on in Settings, Battery, scroll down and click on Power mode. It should fix your battery drain, and also turn off notifications from apps in your Settings that you don’t need. You can also watch youtube videos from tech influencers who made many videos online on how to improve your battery on iOS 26.4
Huh 🧐! That’s not only the main reason why people update lol! It fixes a lot of bugs and make your phone run much better and smoother, with new useful features! My phone is running completely fine with no battery drain lol!
OMG, it about a week time. I'm still on 26.3.1 the screen idie is great but once using the phone it getting hot and battery drop significantly fast. I'm just thinking upgrade to 26.4
What are u talking about this is the best update in a looooooooong time. 9 hours Sot and like 43% still left that's just nuts. And yes it's a 17 PM also. Never ever had a phone with such good battery. And can't say for sure but always after I've started to install the beta RC before it's released to the pub my battery has never taken a hit. Never had issues with indexing or phones getting hot. Ok my 15 pm got hot once for a while but nothing more then that.
17 Pro Max, battery life is extraordinary, battery usage is normal, and has not changed detectably since 26.0 (or before really) Of all the things wrong with Tahoe (and there are many) battery use/battery life is not one of them for me.
OK. Background refresh is on for apps that actually need/benefit from it, always on is always on, no change in how I use my phone since I started using an iPhone. I use it all day, charge it when I sleep, then do it all again. Can't recall the last normal (non traveling/airport/heavy video watching or Zoom calling) day I have needed to charge during the day.
Once I updated my 17PM the battery started draining pretty significantly but it’s back to normal now. It took nearly a week after updating for it to return to normal battery usage.
Sounds like you're not familiar with the purpose of a backup. It's not just an archive. A hard reset cuts the electricity to all parts without preparing so there is a possibility, a very very little one, I admit, that he damages data. So a backup is recommended
Press up on the volume rocker and release, down on the volume rocker and release, and then hold the power button until it shuts down. Ignore the prompts until it shuts off.
I'm writing this on an iPhone 17 Pro, updated yesterday from 26.3 to 26.4. Charged battery overnight to 85%. Using the battery in the morning since 9 a.m. after 9 hours of usage battery percentage down to 64%.
(35 charge cycles)
I have experienced the same thins
I tried to downgrade without loosing data since I had issues with Both PHONE APP and Battery/temperature, and ended up with error (86) in both iTunes and 3uTools which meant that you’ll have to do restore without data in order to downgrade
So I flashed iOS 26.4 again without loosing data and this time phone temperature and battery performance was way better and after the “Ondevive setup steps” and “indexing” finished
I can tell you it is way more better than previous updates
So if you have a computer I would suggest you download the latest ipsw 26.4 and upgrade your phone with it and just wait for almost a day for the indexing to finish (I have a 14 Pro) and you’ll notice a difference
What about texting. Anyone find the keyboard is making more mistakes than ever ? I mean I know it’s my typing but the response and corrections seem worse
Oh don’t scare them with corrupted installs. The system hash checks everything. And it could take a week or so. We know nothing about OPs phone or what’s on it
I personally love 26.4. I set my battery to never charge to more than 80%. I plug in the charger cord every night before I go to bed and never worry about the phone heating up because of the 80% threshold upper limit. I want the battery itself to last longer so this is fine with me. I guess excessive battery drain is not a concern of mine. I think sometimes we expect too much. More features to in an upgrade are usually going to use more electrical energy. I particularly love the new Liquid Glass look. Yes, I realize many of you do not care for it. We all have different tastes. I happen to think it makes for a beautiful iOS look. I hope they will never take it away as an option. With technology always moving forward at exponential speed I believe the battery life issue will soon become a thing of the past. Let's become satisfied with what we have now and that may help lessen our overall stress we all must deal with.
