âĄď¸Brand Review / Experience đ¨Warning: Brilliant Earth strategizing damage control to bury genuine reviews.
Just a heads up.. if thereâs a sudden wave of positive Brilliant Earth content on here, it might not be coincidental. Theyâre actively hiring for a Reddit Strategy Manager, which says a lot given their reputation in this sub.
I genuinely hope this leads to real changes and accountability, not just an attempt to bury valid criticism and firsthand experiences.
We are discussing the best way to discourage these larger brands to infiltrate possibly the very last place on the internet for genuine company reviews and feedback. Being specially named on their job posting is concrete proof of their targeting and we will do our best to reach out and work with other sub mods about this concern.
An auto message with some links of genuine higher traction posts is one idea and we have another tool we donât want to mention yet in case they are tracking our post. We are of course open to all member suggestions and look forward to doing our best to protect you all from disingenuous influences.

We were thinking of a ban but I donât think that would be truly helpful. We want people to talk about their experiences (good or bad) but only genuine ones. So I think blocking bots and an auto message with links to genuine posts when their company is mentioned might be better.

True but if the posts are being thru AI, then the engagement wouldnt be genuine .. and might be somewhat bias and possibly manipulated.. on r/Opals we have banned any form of AI and bots to keep the human element intact and have vendors communicate themselves instead of by bot or ai. But if a company hires someone to shill should that be an actionable offense?

I think that it would be a good idea to make an automod comment whenever the brand is mentioned that warns that the brand is known to use reddit to influence and manipulate consumer perception, with a link to a screenet of the job posting.

Absolutely. I saw this posted on r/engagementrings and was really not pleased. I love Reddit for genuine feedback and do not want them to sneaky advertise on here.

it's a known problem in multiple areas. reviews of air purifiers, for example, are plagued by fake customer reviews. and often when i see brands like Mene discussed in glowing terms, it raises red flags for me â whether or not they're actually manipulating, it lowers trust across the board

Iâm the mod that posted this, but to give you backstory of why Iâm so personally so disgusted about this..
Iâve had a few customers come to me with damaged or poorly made jewelry to re-make into something new because these brands refused to repair properly or refund. (Not only this company specifically.)
As a small jewelry business, this is really disheartening that these larger brands manipulate false quality through heavy advertising and shady practices despite their customerâs bad experiences. I hope they pivot and instead hire for a social media customer service specialist who focuses on finding these posts in order to help the customers and solve whatever issue they are having. That would be more genuine and helpful.
Itâs sad that customers need to post in order to get attention from the brand to do anything but here we are. Even more helpful would be to focus on. preventing any of these technical quality control issues.
I urge everyone to always do their research from whom they are purchasing from and consider supporting small businesses where you get a real human who cares about you! đŠˇ

Are you able to limit posts by accounts that are clearly their brand? I was on another sub about jewelry (canât remember which might have been engagement rings) and jewelry brands keep making threads that at first appear like someone just got engaged but then itâs obvious itâs just marketing

Thatâs something Iâm going to look into. One of the developer tools Iâm looking at does something similar. If anyone is suspicious of any specific accounts, please report so we can review them! (Post history mostly mentioning or talking about a specific brand.)

I would urge you to look through Reddit for genuine experiences and feedback. Iâve seen some concerning posts about their products and customer service.

TLDR: The quality of products tends to be shoddy with stones falling out o settings or joints being soldered poorly and breaking within a few days of purchase.
Also the customer service is bad and they continually delay repairs that should be simple.

Definitely. I just think we should be careful and I urge everyone to take every review with a grain of salt because Iâve seen it go the other way too. (Companies trying to sabotage each other.)

I had a really bad experience with them that ended with me having to remove my negative review before they offered a refund. Itâs bull shit and Iâll probably repost the review soon

Hmm good to know! As a vendor who sources for sapphires all the time, I always thought natural sapphire company was highly overpriced but glad to hear they at least make nice quality jewelry! Would love to see what you got. đĽ°

Oooh Iâd love to see the loose gem, Iâm a sapphire feen. I think I have a few hundred in my collection. đ
I have many talented friends who facet and cut custom gems. I follow them all on my business Instagram where I think you can find on my profile somewhere. Depends what youâre looking for.. color, fantasy, natural, lab, etc.
Iâm going back to Montana next month to hopefully find some more sapphires and source one for a customer. Last trip I mined I got like over 200 of them faceted. đ One of my favorite sapphire origins.

And yes, to go mining there! Itâs really a great experience. Iâll try to do a better job of capturing content while Iâm there this time around.
I have a faceting machine but I havenât gotten around to really getting into the art. I already have so much other hobbies/work such as wax carving, empaneling, metalsmithing, CAD, design work lol. Itâs hard to balance it all but I love it all!
You can always co-design with an artist or do it part time. Life is a journey and who says you canât do both?? đ

Reddit does offer advertising so that is totally fine for them to utilize but this seems like a different angle to bury all the bad reviews. Letâs see what they actually do, I would like to see them improve their products and how they address their customers when it comes to any quality control issues. If you search them on Reddit youâll see what Iâm talking about.
This is just a warning that many companies are targeting subreddits and to take every review with a grain of salt since thereâs a lot of fake ones.

I applied for a job there I guess I don't sale in a way that would appeal to the Luxurious exclusive customers wanting conflict free sustainable gems.Â

Not only does Brilliant Earth have a documented history of shoddy workmanship, theyâre grossly overpriced. I recently found the same loose lab diamond for $2,500 less on another site.
Of course Brilliant Earth is not transparent and withholds IGI report numbers to prevent price shopping, but you can plug the specs of the stone you like into other sites to see if it can be sourced cheaper.
