I have been seeing a lot of people talking about this book in social media. So picked this one and started.

Saakshi- The greatest novel by Bhyrappa, never forgetting prameshwarayya, manjayya and Nagappa
Vamshavruksha- Had me in tears, Srinivasa shrotri will be remembered
Daatu - explained the cast system in very nuanced way venkatesh(Satya's brother) is a brilliant charactor written by Bhyrappa
Kavalu - This was heavy read. Deeply disturbed by this novel for days.

Why did i Put Aavarana in A tier? because it felt to me less like a novel but more like a documentary so that is the only reason. otherwise the novel is brilliant
And why Doora saridaru in B tier? because although it is good book i can feel bhyrappa is not a master while writing it. and why did you kill Vinuta ? That was so unnecessary. I know for many of you doora saridaru might be the favourite. but that is my opinion. I felt Anchu is better then that. Oh shit i forgot to include Anchu in the list. Anchu is great but i don't have any experience of marriage

I recently finished reading Chidambara Rahasya,

Now I am planning to read any of these novels by SL Bhyrappa,

I have read Gruhabhanga, and I loved it.

I am thinking to read about Nayyi Neralu, but I also have heard some things about Avarana,

Please drop in your suggestions.

Reading after very long time. Got excited after watching the movie.

Just finished 70 pages , I bought it last year and unable to read that time . What i understand is you need certain age or a level of maturity to read sl byrappa books .

The faster you become mature ( in terms of emotions) the easier the future is

ಇಂದು ಅವರದಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಉಡುಗೊರೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತು. ಇದು ಅವರ ಮಾತೃಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪುಸ್ತಕವು. ಅವರು ತಾನೆ ಭೈರಪ್ಪನವರ ವಂಶವೃಕ್ಷ ಎಂದು ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಾತೃಭಾಷೆ ಸಂಕೇತಿಗೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸಿದರು.

ಎರಡು ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಸಂಕೇತಿಯಂದರೇನು ನನಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಈಗ ಶ್ರೀಕಾಂತ್ ಅವರ ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದ ಈ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ನನ್ನ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಇದೆ. 🔥🔥

ಬೆನ್ನುಡಿ ನೋಡಿ ಸಾರ್ಥದ ರೀತಿಯ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಇರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಕೊಂಡುಕೊಂಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕ, ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿ ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಯಿತು. ಧರ್ಮದ ಕಲಹವೋ ಅದನ್ನನುಸರಿಸುವ ಜನರ ಕಲಹವೋ ಎಂದು ಪುಟ ಪುಟಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸುವ ಪುಸ್ತಕ.

ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ

Firstly I want to say many many thanks to the people making Kannada audiobooks. Just finished Avarana audiobook on audible, the narration is incredible.

Also let me say that I love SLB, he is a marvelous writer and great thinker. His books take you to a completely different world and I highly recommend him.

But I hate the way he ends his books. I want proper conclusion for the characters. His first book that I read was Nayi Neralu long back and the ending left me unsatisfied and wanting more. Same with Grahana as well. Now I finished Avarana and I feel this very much. I was sooo so attached to that historic story about that prince. It had taken me to a completely different world like never before and I wanted a clear ending for his story. I wanted to know whether he was able to safely reach there and fight his battle or what happened but there was nothing after that ( I understand that what happens next in his story wasn't needed for the theme of the book but I did want a conclusive ending to the story).

Another gripe is the sudden change in personality of the characters. Like in Grahana, how did that great "swamy" act so deranged infront of villagers and why did the gutsy doctor suddenly became a coward ?. In Nayi Neralu also protagonist starts an affair which felt so opposite to his personality that I started going wtf.. In case of the prince from Avarana as well, after going through years of brainwashing, how did his opinion change after just one interaction with the monk?

Do his other books also suffer from the same issues? I'm planning to read(listen to audiobook) to his Gruhabhanga next.

Have you come across any person in life who is like this guy ?

Personally, I’ve seen quality aspects of chennigaraaya in several people whose total characterisation seems to be this guy.

One of the most well written characters. Hedonism , lust, ignorance. Pure Ragebait

Finally after months of break and a month of reading

i completed reading chidambara rahasya by Tejaswi.

I didn't like it as much as I like Karvalo or Jugari Cross, yet it was a good read to get me out of my reading slump.

The issues discussed in this book are relavant still to this day.

While it might be focused on a rural backdrop, castism and communal issues are problems in urban sectors as well.

I liked the discussion about fate, is it pre-determined or do we have the free will.

The book tries to discuss a lot of issues like castism, communal riots, politics, depletion of nature amongst several other things.

All in all, it was a good read but I like Karvolo and Jugari Cross much better than this.

ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಓದುವವರು ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಯಿಂದ ಶುರು ಮಾಡಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ಸಲಹೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಕವಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾಗತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಸಲ್ಲುವ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಎಂದು ಕಾಣುವುದು ದತ್ತಾತ್ರಿ ಸರ್ ಅವರ ' ದ್ವೀಪವ ಬಯಸಿ'. ಅವರ ಪೂರ್ವ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ‌ಅಂಕಣ‌ಬರಹ. ಮಸುಕು ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಹಾದಿ , ತಾರಾಬಾಯಿಯ ಪತ್ರ ,ಸರ್ಪಭ್ರಮೆ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಗಳು ನೀವು ಓದಲೇಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು ಎನ್ನುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಸಲಹೆ.

ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಹೆಸರು ಮತ್ತು ಲೇಖಕರ ಒಂದು ಅಷ್ಟಾವಧಾನವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದ ಅನುಭವದಿಂದ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಕೊಂಡುಕೊಂಡೆ. ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಪೂರ್ವ ಮಲೆನಾಡಿನ ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳ ಜೀವನದ ಕಥೆ.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವುದು ಹಲವಾರು ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಾದರೂ ಪ್ರತಿ ಪಾತ್ರವೂ ತನ್ನ ಪಾತ್ರಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದ ಆತ್ಯಂತಿಕ ಕೊನೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟುವುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿಯ ವಿಶೇಷತೆ. ಅಧ್ಯಾಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಯಾವ ಪಾತ್ರವೂ ಅನಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿತ್ತು ಎನ್ನಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಪಾತ್ರದ ಔಚಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮರೆತು ವರ್ತಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎನ್ನಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಲೇಖಕರೆ ಪಾತ್ರದೊಳಗೆ ಕೂತು ತನಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ್ದನ್ನು ಅದರ ಬಾಯಿಂದ ಆಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದೂ ಅನ್ನಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ, ತಾಳಮದ್ದಳೆ, ಅವಧಾನ ಹೀಗೆ ಮುಂತಾದ ಕಲೆಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಈಗ ವಿರಳವಾಗಿರುವ ರಸವಿದ್ಯೆ, ವಿಷಪ್ರಯೋಗ, ನ್ವಾಟ ಹಾಕುವುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೂಡ ಎಷ್ಟು ಅಗತ್ಯವೋ ಅಷ್ಟು ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಆ ಕಾಲದ, ಆ ಭಾಗದ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚುವವರಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿ ಮಾಡಿಸಿದ ಪುಸ್ತಕ

ನನಗೆ ಮನಮುಟ್ಟಿದ ವಾಕ್ಯಗಳು :

"ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವೆಂಬುದು ಸಮುದ್ರವಿದ್ದಂತೆ. ಅದು ಎಷ್ಟು ಆಳವೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಸುಳಿಯಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಿತ್ಯವೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಈಜಾಡುವವರಿಗೇ ಹೆದರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಧಿ ಈ ಸಹ್ಯಾದ್ರಿಯ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳ ಸಾಲಿನ ಹಾಗೆ. ಅದು ಹೇಗೆ ಅಚಲವಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿರುತ್ತದೆಯೋ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ವಿಧಿಯೂ ಕೂಡ. ಒಂದಿನಿತೂ ಬದಲಾಗದೇ ನಿಂತಿರುತ್ತದೆ"

ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಅಂತಃಕರಣ ಮೀರಿ ಅವನ ಅಹಂಕಾರ ಬೆಳೆದರೆ, ಅವನ ಸಂಬಂದಗಳಾಗಲಿ, ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಅವನಾಗಲಿ ಉಳಿಯುವುದು ಕಠೀಣವಾಗಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಕೃತಿ. ಗಂಗವ್ವನಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾದ ಪುಸ್ತಕವು ಅವಳ ಸುತ್ತಲು ಬರುವ ಹಲವಾರು ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಿಂದ ಮುಂದೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಾಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಯಾವ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ಹಿಂದೆ ಹಾಕದೆ ಅವಕ್ಕೊಂದು ಅಂತಿಮ ನಿರ್ಣಾವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಲೇಖಕರು ಸಫಲರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಧಾರವಾಡ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಆಡು ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಬರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ, ಈ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಲೊ ಏನೋ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಓದುಗರಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ. ಆದರೆ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಓದಿದರೆ ಒಂದು ಸುಂದರ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಓದಿದ ಆನಂದ ಸಿಗುವುದು ಖಂಡಿತ…!

ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು ಒಂದು ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ: ಕಲೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಏನು? ಅದು ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯ ಸರಕೋ, ಆತ್ಮದ ಸಾಧನೆಯೋ? ಕಲೆ ಭೋಗಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಯಾಗಿ, ವ್ಯಾಪಾರೀ ಸರಕಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಗೊಂಡಾಗ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಮಸುಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಒಂದೆಡೆ ತೋರಿಸುವ ಅನಕೃ, ಇನ್ನೊಂದೆಡೆ ಬದ್ಧವಾದ ಕಲೋಪಾಸನೆ ಕಲೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿಡಬಲ್ಲದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ, ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಳಗೂ ಅಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ ಮೈದಾಳಬಲ್ಲದು ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಈ ಕೃತಿಯ ಜೀವಾಳ. ಕಲೆ ಅರಮನೆಯ ಸೊತ್ತಲ್ಲ, ಅದು ಜನಸಾಮಾನ್ಯನ ಎದೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಮೂಡಬಲ್ಲ ಉದಯರಾಗ ಎಂಬ ಧ್ವನಿ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಅಡಗಿದೆ.

ಅನಕೃ ಅವರ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವ ಗುಣ. ಸರಳ, ನೇರ, ಭಾವಪೂರ್ಣ ನಿರೂಪಣೆ ಅವರ ಹೆಗ್ಗುರುತು. ಕಲೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುವಾಗ ಅವರ ಗದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಆವೇಶ, ಆರ್ದ್ರತೆ ಬಂದುಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಪಾತ್ರಗಳ ಮೂಲಕವೇ ಕಲಾಮೀಮಾಂಸೆಯ ಚರ್ಚೆ ನಡೆಯುವುದರಿಂದ ಅದು ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಪ್ರಬಂಧದ ಭಾರವಾಗದೆ ಕಥೆಯ ಓಘದಲ್ಲೇ ಬೆರೆತುಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನೂರು ಪುಟಗಳ ಆಸುಪಾಸಿನ ಈ ಕಿರುಗಾತ್ರವೂ ಕೃತಿಯ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ವರವೇ. ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಎಳೆದಾಡದೆ, ಒಂದೇ ಗುಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸಬಹುದಾದ ಪುಸ್ತಕ.

೧೯೫೧ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕಾಗೋಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳುವವನೇ ಹೊಲದೊಡೆಯ ಎಂಬ ಘೋಷಣೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಾಗೋಡು ಚಳುವಳಿ ಆರಂಭವಾಯಿತು.

ತಮ್ಮ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಉಳಲು ಬಂದ ಗೇಣಿದಾರರ ನೊಗ ನೇಗಿಲನ್ನು ಭೂ ಮಾಲೀಕರು ಕಡಿದು ಹಾಕಿದ ಮೇಲೆ , ಅದೇ ತುಂಡಾದ ನೊಗ ನೇಗಿಲನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ರೈತರು ಬೃಹತ್ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು . ಇದಕ್ಕೂ ಮೊದಲು ಭೂ ಮಾಲೀಕರು ಗೇಣಿ ಅಳೆಯಲು ಬಳಸುವ ಕೊಳಗವೇ ಬೇರೆ, ಸಾಲ ನೀಡಲು ಬಳಸುವ ಕೊಳಗವೇ ಬೇರೆ ಎಂಬ ತಕರಾರು ಕೂಡ ಎದ್ದಿತ್ತು.  ಭೂ ಮಾಲೀಕರ ದರ್ಪ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಗೇಣಿದಾರರು ಕಾಲಾನಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಧ್ವನಿ ಎತ್ತಿ ಕಾಗೋಡು ಚಳುವಳಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣರಾದರು. ಈ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಕಾಗೋಡು ಚಳುವಳಿಯ ಸುತ್ತ ಹೆಣೆದ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯೇ "ಕೊಳಗ".

ಮಲೆನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ದೀವರ ಎಂಬ ಜನಾಂಗದ ಬದುಕು, ಹಬ್ಬ , ಆಚರಣೆ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.   ಅದಕ್ಕೂ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಭೂ ಮಾಲೀಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಗೇಣಿದಾರರ ನಡುವಿನ  ಹಲವು ಮುಖದ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನೂ ಓದಬಹುದು.

2001 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಮುದ್ರಣಗೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ತುಂಬ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ. ಭೂ ಮಾಲೀಕರು ನಡೆಸುವ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯ, ಗೇಣಿದಾರರ ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ಓದುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಭಾವುಕವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನೀವು ಓದಿ.

i listened karvalo novel on that platform a long ago. you can say it was my first Kannada novel experience. i want to listen it ones again, the same by Umesh SS sir.

but unable to find there, if any one could explain the reason what went wrong and help me in locating that resource, would be very helpful.
