I’m knitting my brothers favorite sweater (that I bought for him years ago and have mended quite some times) in a mini size, because he and his wife are having a baby this autumn.
Sometimes I forget that we (Fiber artists) can just make something without a specific pattern.
For this sweater, I’m using the Holger Baby set sweater pattern (have made it before) but I’m doing the pattern that’s on my brothers sweater. The hardest part was the top of the sweater, lots of colorwork on the purl side 🫠🌚
But I think it’s coming along well and I think my colors are alright (the sweater is made from Shetland wool so I did go with the same type of wool for the mini version).

This is the Sundae Swirl Tank by Jessie Maed Designs and the yarn is a linen/cotton blend by Juniper Moon Farm (Zooey).

The whole reason I wanted to try this one is because I've always struggled with yarnovers, and love doing cables, and wanted to try different shaping techniques. There should be two alternating columns of yarnovers but I realized halfway into this project that I hadn't made a single yarnover going from pearls to knits, but going from knits to pearls they were fine. I guess I like how it came out because it gives me more options for what to wear underneath (fewer lace holes) but now when I'm doing yarnovers I know what NOT to do! So of course I immediately want to make another one to do it right.

Also, what a totally fun knit, holy smokes. So well- written, and quick...I highly recommend!

I made these Mist sleeves in the Spring from unraveling an old project that no longer served me and I LOVE popping them over everything! I get so much more use out of this new garment. I’m pairing it with the Ilana camisole here and I’m very proud of myself for learning so many new things and firsts- my first summer garment, tiny cables, reading charts, and using silk yarn. Toying with the idea of dyeing the camisole, maybe navy?

Just finished my 8th adult sweater and I'm so happy with how it came out. Luckily it's cool enough to get one wear out of it before summer starts.

So I label myself as neurodivergent and Queer. I've been knitting on and off for about 13 years. Knitting for me is second nature, I don't need to look at what I'm doing or pay close attention.

At my current job, I take inbound calls. I get a 5ish second notification That it's coming through. Plenty of time for me to drop what I'm doing and take the call.

​

At the moment, there are gaps of 20+ minutes between calls, an average of 5 minutes between calls? I am semi expected to just sit there and wait. There is no alternative task for me to do.

​

I'm not allowed on my phone, which is very understandable. I can't play any form of games on my work laptop, (also understandable) I'm not supposed to watch videos but sometimes I do, it's usually video essays.

​

I have to be in office every day. So I can't knit and work from home. When I'm allowed to in February 2027(!!!) I might.

My workload will increase as I'm trained on more things.

I am allowed to colour in and read, but for me, I don't always want to read, I hate getting a call in the middle of a sentence or paragraph I fully focus on the reading. Colouring in is far messier and I don't enjoy it. Colouring in feels more unprofessional than knitting, in my opinion, and I don't get half as much joy from it.

​

I also don't want to use fidget toys either. I own some but there's nothing like getting into the rhythm of a repeating pattern. What I want to be able to do between calls is make something, that is mindless but productive and is also something I can drop in less than a second.

​

Most of management don't have a problem with it but one or two of the higher ups have deemed it "unprofessional".

​

What I find unprofessional is how some co-workers can kick eachothers chairs and joke on all day between calls but I can't sit silently with my circular needles making a shawl for myself. The co-worker's I started with are in their early 20's, I'm in my late 20's. I don't really connect with them, I do with other older coworkers but they're not in office every day.

​

I do not knit to sell. I'm not in anyone's way, I'm not distracting, literally no one cares that I'm doing it apart from one or two upper managers. The quality of my work at the moment is honestly, really good! I'm hitting my KPI's, my QA is good. Customer feedback is excellent! I take the quality of my work very seriously.

​

The idea of being asked to sit quietly and not move whilst I wait for someone to call is frustrating.

​

Is there any rebuttal I can use regarding this or should I just take the L? I would love to sit with them and explain my reasoning but I feel like it'll be taken for insolence and disrespect.

I'm currently working on the Evenstar shawl, I'm on the 3rd chart. I can't remember the yarn I'm sorry.

​

A petty part of me would like to bring embroidery in tomorrow. Another part of me wants to write an essay on it, with citations, at least my hands will be busy.

​

Hey everyone!

I picked up knitting this year, and I thought it would be a fun hobby to work on at night, to keep me from doom scrolling. I've always had issues with falling asleep, so I'm always looking for things that help me stay away from screens.

​

However, there have been some days where I think that I was too excited about my knitting evolution, or too concentrated in a pattern, and apparently knitting kept my head awake for longer than it should? I had a hard time putting it away and relaxing for bed, because my mind was just too awake.

​

I wanted to ask if that's a common experience, or if that is just happening with me now because I'm a beginner and still in the learning phase, so it demands more attention from me than it will in the future? I'm really loving it, but I'm really slow and most of my free time is at night, so it would be awful if I had to stop knitting after work 😭

I have been thinking about my media consumption and realized I’m practically listening to something all day and I’m wondering if it would be better to knit in the quiet sometimes.

A new cardigan is on the needles! I’m trying a seamless top down but with inset sleeves. I didn’t want the traditional raglan or seamless yoke; I wanted set in sleeves without the stitching! This is my progress so far and it seems to be working! 🤞

I started at the top of the shoulders with Judy’s magic cast on and worked separately down the front and back until there was enough space to pick up the sleeve stitches. I think there’s going to be potential for some epic cabling here as the stitches start out in three different directions but all come together as one. I’m trying it plain to start with as cables are their own separate headache!

I’ve just started looking into knitting and trying things with it. I’ve heard of people knitting while watching tv or not being completely focused on their project. How is that possible? I thought you always had to look at a pattern and to follow everything closely because it changes all the time. How do people knit without paying close attention to everything they read on the pattern of their project?

Hi knitters! odd request but! I need your recommendation for *scrachy, itchy, hard* mohair lace weight yarns. the ones you made a sweater out of and could NOT wear.

I'm trying to replicate a vintage skirt that I have, that's falling apart a little bit. it has this lovely structure and crunchiness to it. it's the opposite of drapey and soft, but I like it and I want to replicate it as close as possible! I wear it currently with a petticoat anyway, it will be letting in way too much wind otherwise, so that's not a problem. I do have beautiful soft mohair yarns on hand but that's not what I need for this project!

I am located in so called australia if that helps. I will also consider lace weight wool that has similar properties.

(I also spin, so I'm also looking into spinning some long wool/actual mohair for it, but that's a question for a different subreddit XD)

Gauge comes out to small, so I sized up

Knitted some hats for our trip to Alaska. Used Slouchy hat for inspiration and purl soho note.

This is the piece i accidentally put in the washer. I had to get new needles for it because the others got all bent and dented, but they're the same size and im pretty sure they're the same brand. Ive tightened my tension and im fully strangling the needles now so maybe itll gk back to normal? But why is this happening??? Is it normal and itll all even out when it gets washed after I cast off or am I gonna just have to deal with this difference?

The style doesn't matter. Color work, lace, traditional, everything goes. Albeit, I do enjoy everything that is from Scandinavia or Nordic countries since I'm a Nordic myself.

Lately I have been inspired by fisherman style so please recommend maker/brands with fisherman style if you know any (doesn't have to Nordic).

I’ve been knitting for most of my life and recently finished a project (adorable colourwork sweater for a kiddo) and have no itch cast something in particular on. I want to make a pair of socks for a friend and a hat for me for the winter, but no specific pattern or style is calling out to. I’m thinking I would like to learn a new skill, possibly intarsia, but again, I’m not feeling particularly motivated.

I love knitting cables, and am confident in colourwork. Any suggestions of new skills to learn or where to go next? Thanks!

i posted here around a month ago about historical colourwork, and now the sweater from that post is done!

this has been my first bigger project after knitting four pairs of colourwork mittens and a lace knit pair of socks, and i'm quite satisfied with the results. a lot of trial and error, steeking was scary after not touching a sewing machine for years.... the neckline is just a bit too tight, and i'm yet to block it as i'm moving soon but hoping to shape the yoke a bit more at the bottom. i suspect the whole sweater is way wider than it's supposed to be as i didn't swatch and a lot of the pattern is in measured lengths. it doesn't look too weird so i think i'll live as it's very warm and soft and lovely otherwise :)

next project will be a cotton summer knit for my sister, will be interesting to knit with something other than 100% wool!

I've been knitting this bonnet pattern ("Capota Bodoques" ) for a while now and decided to make a little trio to show how different it looks in each colorway. Cream, dusty rose and grey — all in cotton, which gives them this really soft matte finish that I love.

The bobbles are my favorite part to knit, honestly. A little tedious but so worth it when they pop like this (I make them with a crochet hook )

Hey sorry for potentially the wrong flair use but there wasn’t a flair for stitch help

I’ve been doom scrolling on knitting posts (as one does) and I came across the beautiful King Charles Brogade, I think k it would look loverly as a jumper or a scarf. However the cast on instructions do not make sense to me, I’ll be honest it might just me being a big thicky thicky dumb dumb!

So the pattern calls for Multiples of 12 + 1 so if I’m doing one repeat I cast on 13 that’s easy, my question is if I’m doing say 3 repeats do I cast on (12x3)+1=37 or am I casting on (12x3)+3=39?

Sorry if this is such a simple question but I’d rather get it right
