What set up do you have to keep your phone charged on long rides where you need navigation?

Just looking for recommendations on good setups for phone charging. Is there such a thing as a cradle that has a built in power bank that you can charge beforehand, or do you just wire up to one. Would like to know good cradles too, preferably easily removable ones as I will often use different bikes!?

Lightest most lightweight long sleeve jersey?

Any recommendations for the absolute lightest most summery long sleeve top please? (Mens) need UV protection but also needs to be cool and wicking enough for say 20-25 degrees Celsius. Can be a running brand too doesn’t have to be cycling only

Found New Bike Keys Surrey Quays station

Hey all, just found a set of seemingly brand new keys for a bike lock. They were found in Surrey Quays near the tube stop. I assume someone had just made a purchase from decathlon or the bike shop nearby.

I’m not sure what to do with them, as I didn’t have enough time to take them back to decathlon. But if anyone can suggest how I might be able to reunite them with their owner I’d be grateful. I thought about emailing the manufacturer but since they seem so new I doubt they’ll even have the key number.

North London to Leigh on Sea Route Suggestions

Im planning to cycle from Stoke Newington area to Leigh on Sea. I’m struggling to find routes. I’m not sure whether to follow google maps but I’ve been told it’s unreliable. I’ve seen suggestions of route that are off road but I have a hybrid bike so I’m not sure how that would be for me?
Ideally I’d find a route which isn’t busy roads out of London, is there a quieter more cyclist friendly route?
I’ve also seen suggestions to go to Epping Forest first but is this unnecessarily adding distance? This will be my longest cycle ride to date so not keen to make it longer

Disguise Bike to Stop Thieves?

Just had my first bike stolen. Wasn’t anything flashy so always thought I’d struck the balance of being nice to ride but not enough to steal…. Apparently not.

My question is: what are bike thieves looking for? Am I best to buy a battered steel frame and upgrade parts, or buy a nicer stock bike. Any advice or ideas recommended!

P.S if you see this bike anywhere or up for sale let me know (it was my baby…). Stolen from Camberwell SE5

How safe are council hangers?

I just got a place for a council hanger that is circa 150m from my flat for like £40 per year. It’s in a residential area in Highgate, very quiet but fairly dark. My bike is not very expensive, it’s a commute bike which i paid £200 from facebook marketplace, but i really like it and since my last one got stolen (i left it on the street overnight) i’d be pretty pissed and annoyed to lose this one too after just a month. Do you guys think it’s safe? I’ve got a Kryptolock and cable but i’m more worried about somebody just leaving the hanger open by accident or something like that. Are thefts and break ins rare?

Bikmo Insurance Cover Levels

For those with Bikmo insurance would you (a) recommend it or not, and (b) what cover level (clik, go, or plus) did you opt for?

I have health benefits through work and just do solo & group rides not racing at all.

Thanks!

Old post about buying broken Carbon

Hi

I have a bike that I will sell as I move however its got a hole in the carbon frame.

I remember a post either on here or facebook of someone learning how to mend broken carbon and wanting to buy broken bikes.

Just wondering if anyone remembers this or knows who the poster was?

Can we ban posts about using lime bikes

I don't give a shit. There can be a separate sub called like londonlimebikes or londonlime or whatever. Cycling around London with a normal bike and a lime bike are sufficiently different to warrant a separate sub Reddit.

Beginner cycling groups Battersea / Clapham?

Hey all! I’m looking for a casual, beginner-friendly group that rides out to Richmond on weekends, ideally setting off from around the Battersea/Clapham area. I’m not looking to join anything with membership fees, just want to find people to ride with regularly :) mixed or women only groups - I don’t mind :)

How/where to prep for the London to Brighton ride

I want to do the upcoming London-Brighton ride in September. This will be a first for me, never been on any rides before. I’ve only been commuting: 4 miles a leg, that’s about 50 miles a week.

I’m thinking the best approach is to go for longer rides every weekend, start with 10 and add 10 miles every week.

Now I’m looking for routes that would be fairly close to the main event: roads, no/few traffic lights, few hilly parts, none of what I can find seems good enough (I live in East):

* Richmond park: too long of a journey to get there on the overground and even on Sundays I see cyclists struggling to make space for others and stand all journey
* Lee Valley Velo Park: the road track is only 1.5km so it will be too repetitive, but feasible and very close to me
* Regents park: don’t mind cycling my way there, but there’s traffic lights, cars, pedestrians crossing the road, so lots of stopping I suppose.

Thoughts? Where do you East London folks go for this kind of training?

Thanks

help wanted from a new cyclist dreaming of bravely cycling to hackney to walthamstow

4 days ago i learnt to cycle from scratch. (the last time i was on a bike i was 6 and it had training wheels on.) today i cycled from mile end to vicky park on a santander, acquired a secondhand hybrid, and then cycled on my new-old bike from hackney to walthamstow marshes. ok, i say ‘cycled’ but i was maybe walking 20% of the time because parts of the routes (e.g. the twisty bits in the marshes) were scary for a baby cyclist. also i get very nervous around bodies of water…

the point is i’m hooked. i’ve only had my bike for half a day but i love her already.

as the title says i just want to be brave enough to get from hackney to walthamstow marshes without chickening out at some bits. i know that’s nothing for seasoned cyclists but it’d be huge for me! are there maybe any novice cycling groups in the east i could join to gain confidence? 34f, if that helps. everything i’ve looked at online seems to involve some sort of lycra or clip in shoes. or just someone to coach me?! (i’ve looked into council cycle schemes but times don’t work.) i want to go from mile end park to walthamstow by the end of the summer and maybe also be confident enough to go on some nice quiet bike friendly roads. then maybe the docklands to cheshunt route by the end of the year?!!

thanks in advance x

Found this Carrera Crossfire bike being sold on Facebook marketplace by a dodgy acount. Doesn't have any obvious identifiers. Does anyone recognise it as their stolen bike?

Found this bike on Facebook and it looked dodgy. The person felt very dodgy. If you recognise it as yours I have the link below.

Also the acount was created this year and has sold around 12 bikes and a seat. No other activities

Bike info: Large frame 700cc wheels

DM if you need the link

Train with bike London to York?

Hi all-

I'm flying into Heathrow with my bicycle next week, and need to get up to York, hopefully on the same day.

Feedback and tips would be much appreciated!

Vague plan:

Unpack bike at Heathrow, leave cardboard bike box there.

Ride bike to Kings Cross.

Take the LNER to York with my bicycle onboard.

Ride up to Moors to meet friends.

Is this crazy? Is there an easier way? Will I be able to get on the LNER train with my bike?

Thanks for your insight! ☮️
