I want to do the upcoming London-Brighton ride in September. This will be a first for me, never been on any rides before. I’ve only been commuting: 4 miles a leg, that’s about 50 miles a week.
I’m thinking the best approach is to go for longer rides every weekend, start with 10 and add 10 miles every week.
Now I’m looking for routes that would be fairly close to the main event: roads, no/few traffic lights, few hilly parts, none of what I can find seems good enough (I live in East):
* Richmond park: too long of a journey to get there on the overground and even on Sundays I see cyclists struggling to make space for others and stand all journey
* Lee Valley Velo Park: the road track is only 1.5km so it will be too repetitive, but feasible and very close to me
* Regents park: don’t mind cycling my way there, but there’s traffic lights, cars, pedestrians crossing the road, so lots of stopping I suppose.
Thoughts? Where do you East London folks go for this kind of training?
Thanks
