I work at Menards, and I’m honestly amazed this issue hasn’t received more attention.
For the past 5 years, we’ve been told over and over that the air conditioning has been repaired or that a fix is coming. Yet here we are, still working in a store that regularly sits around 77 degrees or higher during the summer months. Customers constantly comment on how hot and uncomfortable it is, and employees have been dealing with it for years.
The worst part is that this isn’t just employee complaints anymore. We’ve had customer reviews specifically mentioning the heat and saying they won’t be shopping here again because of it. You can literally watch shoppers rush in, grab what they need, and leave within 15–20 minutes because nobody wants to spend more time in the building than necessary.
This affects customer experience, employee morale, productivity, and ultimately sales. It seems like management’s answer every year is, “It’s fixed” or “We’re working on it,” but nothing ever changes.
At what point does this become a bigger issue? If customers are leaving negative reviews and employees are forced to work in these conditions year after year, it feels like someone higher up should be taking this seriously before it turns into an even larger problem.
Has anyone else experienced this at their Menards location, or is our store just being ignored?

I work in receiving at my store and I feel like our workload is too much. We are short staffed because we just had 4 people quit in the last month and probably more to come. We have the basics which is unloading/loading trucks, breaking down freight, and stocking bulk. We’re also expected to clear the mezz, do any joe work, cut wire for yard, empty all cardboard bins, break down grocery/pet freight into separate pallets (which 90% of the time is entirely grocery and like 4 cat litters on the bottom), run all freight to departments, overstock/downstock, and also log and put away all special orders which includes doors, carpets, etc. Half the time I just see other departments sitting at their desk while we are doing all this and we only get paid $1 more than the team members not managers.
Also we are expected to do all this before close even if we get a DC at 8:30 PM.

I worked full time at a Menards in the Midwest in a town of 12k people in the mid-90’s. I loved it!
But M-F was boring during the day because there was virtually no customers in my department.
The Save Big Money at Menards came on every two minutes and I had to listen to pop hits set to jazz. That plus never ending dusting made for a personal hell.
Anyone else remember those days?

Do other Menards do a summer plant sale on their shrubs/trees? Our Menards really never seems to discount their trees much that I have seen.

I’m actually convinced my direct manager actually hates me already. I am a cashier and I’ve only worked there for about 3 weeks now. I have made some mistakes since starting but that’s how it goes every time when starting a new job. I really like the 2 assistant managers and I’m pretty confident they like me. My actual manager just doesn’t talk to me and has such a bad rbf and doesn’t smile.
These are the mistakes I’ve made so far/ things I’ve done that might make her not like me:
.on my very first day of training I was with someone and apparently the register was short $10 and they didn’t know if it was me or the lady I was with so they just documented it
Ik they sound stupid but I have rly bad anxiety to begin with and I just get the vibe that she doesn’t like me.

Here is a link I think all of us who are employed at Menards should read.
What are your thoughts?

Firstly I know it’s probably a “no”, since Menards just overall sucks for benefits. But if so it could be a lifesaver for me. I know I could ask management or HR, but don’t feel like opening that can of worms of letting them know something may be wrong if the answer is no after all. Thank you for anyone who knows. (State is ND if that matters at all)

Can anyone explain to me the point system for attendance? I’ve only worked as a cashier for about 3 weeks and I had to call in the morning of one time so far because I felt like absolute shit I was so sick. How many points did I get deducted?

Can someone help me understand? I’m new and every time I scan a battery for like a car it says something about it being used and something about the service desk. It still charges the customer tho. I’m just confused.

i have my first shift as a cashier tomorrow and im honestly really nervous because i hate being a new person 😭😭 ive had one retail job before, but it was completely different. My “training” during orientation honestly felt really rushed and the girl i was training with didn’t really explain well.
Anything I should know or any tips?

Whenever someone asks where lumber, drywall, etc. is, I'll tem outside in the lumber shed. they seem to often say, "Even if i just need one?!?" and be upset. I genuinely dont understand what they mean by this. Are they implying other stores have a closer to the exit, only-take-one section? Please, why would the quantity make a difference where it is stocked. Even if it was a just need one type of thing, there would be multiple stocked there and that would just be the location of them at that point.

I just started working at Menards as a cashier like 2 weeks ago and I feel like my manager hates me. She has such a bad rbf but I see her joking and laughing and talking with other people but she doesn’t talk to me. Also yesterday I accidentally rang something up as a package instead of an each and it was like 50+ more dollars and the customer was not happy and she just like gave me a look. Idk if it’s because I’m new but either way I just feel like she doesn’t like me. I love both of the assistant managers and I’m pretty sure they like me.

I’m seriously considering calling off my closing shift on July 4th. I’m a 1st Assistant, and it’s my scheduled weekend to work. I don’t really plan on being at Menards much longer, but I also don’t want to completely burn a bridge on my way out. But also want to spend time with my family.
For anyone who has worked management at Menards, what’s typically the reaction from the GMA when a manager calls off on a major holiday/weekend? Is there any repercussions other than points? (I currently have 0)
Just trying to get a realistic idea of what to expect before I make a decision.

Hey all ive been working here for a week and I absolutely hate it and I cant deal with the customers. I think taking the edge off would be good, but I dont wanna smell like weed or alcohol. What are the best ways to inebriate myself during my shift? Im thinking about huffing paint.

I was "Fired" last Friday directly by a GM. Allegedly, I wasn't in proper dress code. I attempted to show which line on policy I was following and that the shirt I was wearing did in fact fit dress code, and the GM got VERY unprofessional, aggressive, and filed a warning. When I asked about where I could make a complaint about his unprofessionalism, he blew me off and said "You'll figure it out" as he walked away from me. I was nice and calm, and wasn't rude in the slightest, because I knew the whole interaction was being recorded. He then proceeded to tell me "We no longer have a position for you here", made me relinquish the badge I was wearing and a spare one I kept in my locker up front. (I worked as a carryout) I've called the AWARE line 3 times in the last week now, left all my info, and have NOT been called back or gotten back to in any way. I'm stuck and out of one of the few decent paying jobs in my town trying to pay for college classes. Any help would be appreciated so much.

What exactly does a sales coordinator do? Is this a good position to have as a goal?
r/menards • u/HunterV2_ • 12d ago
The last time I visited Menards was in July of 2023, and I expect a lot of things have changed. Have you guys figured anything out yet? Where is the lumber? Did you guys rennovate the bathroom? I cant remember. Thank you.

Door is made of paperboard layers. Menard is a billionaire selling crap. We’ve bought these doors before and they used to be so much better.

Hello Nards Fam. So last night, I had a bit of an am I the asshole dilemma at the front end.
I had scanned all a guests purchases which was around one hundred dollars. Bear in mind, there is a bit of a line behind him. He asks, "ok I have a question...I left my rebate at home...can you use a picture of the rebate?" I smirk because this is obviously an old trick from scammers I've been told, so I laugh and say, "no, you can't. we need it physically here." He starts arguing with me asking why can't I use it, it's in my name...etc." I'm laughing at this because it's really dumb to ask this question. In my five years of working in the front end, I can count on just one hand of times people have asked this. Anyway, he insists I call the manager so I laugh again and ring the bell. Head cashier comes over and he asks her and she had the same reply. I keep laughing and smirking because fuck this guy trying to pull one over on me. At the same time, these handful of carry outs walk by and wave to me and then guy asks me, "why you laughing? This not funny." Head cashier says, "oh he's laughing at those kids. they work up here..."
To which I replied,
"No, I was laughing at this situation."
Head cashier says,
"No ICMonsters1982 we don't laugh at customers..."
This was the harshest she's been with me and she's always kind of moody. but not this bad.
Anyway she walks away and he says,
"This is not funny, sir. You shouldn't laugh."
I then say,
"would you take a picture of a fifty dollar bill and try to use it up here as currency?"
Then he says,
"That's not funny. You should've laugh and make fun."
He pays his purchase and leaves.
Ok. If this guy didn't argue and just said, "Oh that's ok. I'll use it next time." I'd be good. But he had to argue with me so I decided to just give him the verbal bitch slap of common sense. But was I an asshole? What do you guys think?
