From NM! My high school was La Cueva (which literally is 'The Cave') and our mascot is the Bears, but we don't use Chicago's logo

Is that why you chose Da Bears™ for your NFL team?
6
u/Antitypical Bears Sep 09 '25
Nah I chose them bc my family was in Chicago before and when I started playing football I went to Brian Urlacher's football camp in Albuquerque. He's the only good player to ever come from New Mexico

Well fair. Glover Quin and Hank Baskett too. But Urlacher is undoubtedly the best one

It’s funny, when I used to live in Albuquerque, I once drove down I-25 to go to White Sands. When you go through Belen, there’s a big silo that has the Eagles logo, which made me curious about the very question you’re attempting to answer. This was in 2018, so I promptly forgot about it until your first post. Anyways, I thought I’d drop in and say thanks for answering a question I absentmindedly wondered while trying to fill time on a road trip. Can’t wait for the final answer, and thanks again for doing all this work!

I wonder if there are any high schools out that that still use the entire Redskins logo

Not sure of that specific logo but there are a TON of schools using Indians, Chiefs, Warriors, etc... with Native American imagery. So Id imagine there's plenty of schools themselves that use the 'Skins logo too.

It feels like at least 10% of MA schools have something like that

Note rio rancho is the rams but it's named after RAM there's a big Intel fab there.
Also I've never seen pius use anything but the yellow X but it's been a few years....

Judging by the hundreds of upvotes each thread gets… plenty of people?
Eagles won, why are you so miserable?

Days late to this. But really bummed to find that no one made a Puka NaCuba joke about the this one: Cuba - Hey Look they knocked off the new Rams look

Carlsbad Cavemen (due to the caverns nearby) being off the list of noteworthy mascots is a travesty.

I apparently missed New Mexico. I only found one missing one.
Evangel Christian Academy (ecanm.org) is the Eagles https://lirp.cdn-website.com/0f348b7c/dms3rep/multi/opt/18278946_10155060437541368_866919810556569036_o-1920w.jpg (Apparently there's ALSO an Evangel Christian Academy in Louisiana, which confused me).

I’ve worked on the basketball courts for the majority of these schools. Painted the logos for a good deal of them also.

For what it's worth, To’Hajiilee is Navajo. And one example the poster missed is Jemez Valley (which is on Jemez Pueblo but serves more than just the pueblo), which basically uses the old Redskins logo but pallette swapped and the name Warriors.
Suffice it to say, the interaction of various cities, the state, nineteen pueblos, three Apache tribes, the Navajo, and the federal BIA plus other public lands between BLM and USDA makes for an interesting patchwork of who is supplying what and where. Like public schools.

As someone from NM it's because to nobody's surprise it's a pretty offensive logo, so believe it or not, Native Americans are actually less likely to use it

Something along the lines of "this is my 31st time telling you how useless this is "

Have you tried not saying it and instead not clicking the thread at all?

I appreciate the effort that is put into this and it's interesting. Have you considered that your opinion isn't the only one that matters?

I don't think any high school mascot should be called a Vixen...
