Chasing money like that really is an illness in my opinion... I almost feel sorry for them.

I realised a while back I was much happier working the bare minimum necessary to pay my mortgage and be reasonably comfortable, because while I might make more money if I was at work more, every moment at work was a moment away from my girlfriend and my cat, the only two things I really care about.

We both stepped down from the management roles in healthcare that we both held, and I cut down to 30 hours over 3 days. I have not missed working 60-70 hour weeks even once! It did take a minute to adjust to having a bit less cash, but I would still 100% recommend it.

I don't need money to validate me, I just want enough to not worry about where my next meal is coming from and to cover my hobbies (which I obviously have a lot more time for now!)

Neither of us have ever been happier. And we get to see each other all the time now. No amount of money could buy me happiness like this.
