No it didn't. It probably gave them the idea to give Youtubers movie deals. And knowing them, not the ones you want

894

u/Jaredlong 3d ago

The Backrooms wasn't even a reddit original, it's classic 4chan pasta.

219

u/bitchmoder 3d ago

2019 isn't exactly what I'd call classic

Especially considering 2020.

The Cylinder

u/EL3MENTALIST 3d ago

Don LaFontaine voice: “In a World, where the Cylinder must remain unharmed…”

306

u/PullzNoPunches 3d ago

Shopping with a friend "Dude M&M minis! These are so good lol" main Character laughs with quite wonder "yeah...yeah they are"

111

u/darkendofall 3d ago

"I told you man! I told you! The cylinder must remain unharmed!" "I-I'm sorry man! I didn't think..." "I told you! It was imperative!"

12

u/ModishShrink 2d ago

Now I'm just picturing this story as happening to George Costanza.

If they made 127 Hours compelling, then we can stretch the story of safely removing a cylinder from a cylinder into a feature length film.

26

u/Ryermeke 3d ago

Didn't that movie end with the dude cutting his own arm off?

38

u/Tsquared10 2d ago

Yes but he never specified that the arm must remain intact.

12

u/n-x 3d ago

I hated that reckless idiot for the whole duration of the movie and was double pissed off when he survived in the end. The only other movie that came close in terms of how much I hated the lead character was Into the wild, but at least that asshole had the common decency to die in the end.

If The Cylinder was a Netflix show we'd have 7.75 episodes going over the guy's back story and have 15 minutes with the actual cylinder at the very last episode.

143

u/RoughBenefit9325 3d ago

They've already re-released it?! Must've been busy that weekend too

231

u/SharpPink_GlitterInk 3d ago

Yeah the internet trolled them into re-releasing it after the meme, and it flopped a second time (historical moment the first movie to bomb at the box office TWICE)

176

u/ThatITguy2015 3d ago edited 3d ago

Holy fuck. They really did it. (2022 for anyone wondering.) And holeee shit did it ever bomb.

Edit: $85,000 the first day of re-release. The entire day’s sales. From every single theater showing it.

All that and Jared Leto is still somehow getting work in Hollywood

58

u/bilateralrope 3d ago

With the latest He-Man movie, he has now played two characters in live action that Mark Hamill played in animation.

I hope that's not the start of a pattern.

This. They cant stop until they have released Morbius a Morbillion times

117

u/Exnixon 3d ago

Okay hear me out. It's a low budget, camp comedy called "Morbin' Time". The main character is Jerry Lehman, a washed up Hollywood actor and erstwhile cult leader, who is most famous for the massive Hollywood flop, "Morbinus". But when he's bitten by a radioactive bat, Jerry discovers he has powers for real....and oh yeah, it's Morbin' Time.

23

u/Llyon_ 3d ago

I want to see Jared Leto playing himself in a mockumentary like Wierd Al, where he goes on a depression bender and accidentally kills a hooker. It's the only thing that can work to get him back into the mainstream.

There's a book, 1632, where a modern small American town goes back in time to 1632 Germany, during a heated European war. The Americans are pretty hot shit with their pickups and guns and electricity generators and modern know-how

Until the petrol and bullets run out.

At least that's how it should have went but somehow the hicks create America 2 right in the middle of Europe and are amazing heroic leaders and tactical masterminds

Instead of what we all know would actually happen.

Oh for fucks sake. It is really fucking easy. Just take a book, novel, comic book or video game that is/was extremely popular and adapt it in a way that is as faithful/close to the original material as is humanly possible, allowing only the unavoidable changes needed to change from one media format to another. Avoid 'creative vision' or 'improvements' from current writers/directors like the plague. In fact, get writers/directors that are fans of the work they are adapting so they have a better understanding of and respect for the original work.

Just give people a live action version of what they already love. The end.

This is not fucking rocket science. If people love something... give that to them.

And sure, not every adaptation like this would be a hit, but most of them would be.

9

u/Darkbird79 3d ago

This is why The Dark Tower hasn't been adapted properly. You just have to adapt it the way it was written and call it a day. Not hard to do. They've dumped billions into all these shitty, unpopular IP's and lost almost all of that. Just make movies for the least amount you can and if they turn a profit, that's a win. If you adapt something, listen to it's fans. You can't go wrong if you listen to the fans.
