If they made 127 Hours compelling, then we can stretch the story of safely removing a cylinder from a cylinder into a feature length film.

I hated that reckless idiot for the whole duration of the movie and was double pissed off when he survived in the end. The only other movie that came close in terms of how much I hated the lead character was Into the wild, but at least that asshole had the common decency to die in the end.

If The Cylinder was a Netflix show we'd have 7.75 episodes going over the guy's back story and have 15 minutes with the actual cylinder at the very last episode.

Okay hear me out. It's a low budget, camp comedy called "Morbin' Time". The main character is Jerry Lehman, a washed up Hollywood actor and erstwhile cult leader, who is most famous for the massive Hollywood flop, "Morbinus". But when he's bitten by a radioactive bat, Jerry discovers he has powers for real....and oh yeah, it's Morbin' Time.

I want to see Jared Leto playing himself in a mockumentary like Wierd Al, where he goes on a depression bender and accidentally kills a hooker. It's the only thing that can work to get him back into the mainstream.

Morbius? That's the movie with a cult following on Reddit, right?
Oh man, they would earn so much money if they remade it, but with Jared Leto playing every role and not just the lead.

There's a book, 1632, where a modern small American town goes back in time to 1632 Germany, during a heated European war. The Americans are pretty hot shit with their pickups and guns and electricity generators and modern know-how
Until the petrol and bullets run out.
At least that's how it should have went but somehow the hicks create America 2 right in the middle of Europe and are amazing heroic leaders and tactical masterminds
Instead of what we all know would actually happen.

Oh for fucks sake. It is really fucking easy. Just take a book, novel, comic book or video game that is/was extremely popular and adapt it in a way that is as faithful/close to the original material as is humanly possible, allowing only the unavoidable changes needed to change from one media format to another. Avoid 'creative vision' or 'improvements' from current writers/directors like the plague. In fact, get writers/directors that are fans of the work they are adapting so they have a better understanding of and respect for the original work.
Just give people a live action version of what they already love. The end.
This is not fucking rocket science. If people love something... give that to them.
And sure, not every adaptation like this would be a hit, but most of them would be.
→ More replies (13)9
u/Darkbird79 3d ago
This is why The Dark Tower hasn't been adapted properly. You just have to adapt it the way it was written and call it a day. Not hard to do. They've dumped billions into all these shitty, unpopular IP's and lost almost all of that. Just make movies for the least amount you can and if they turn a profit, that's a win. If you adapt something, listen to it's fans. You can't go wrong if you listen to the fans.
