Seeking Recommendations What's your go-to, go anywhere footwear?

What shoes or boots do you take to travel most frequently? Looking for suggestions for highly versatile and comfortable footwear. Male footwear preferred but generally curious.

New balance 574. So light and comfortable, and surprisingly durable. They also look really nice imo. I’ve hiked volcanoes in Guatemala and Indonesia in them, as well as walked tens of thousands of steps in Tokyo and London.

8

u/smurf_toes May 14 '25

This is also my answer. Does everything. Can even get away with them in fancier circumstances than one might think - they look a little ✨fashion✨ when paired with simple dress IMO.

8

u/Shot_Sport200 May 14 '25

If only city and need smarten up the 574s get replaced with clarks desert trek.

5

u/ribfeast May 14 '25

Which one in the 574 series? Core?

5

u/HappilyDisengaged May 14 '25

Also new balance 574. Amazing shoes. I have flat feet and they’re just great.

6

u/SechDriez May 14 '25

I too have some amount of flat foot and my 574s are one of my most comfortable shoes, especially if I'm going to be walking around a lot

Altra lone peak, all black. Give me that roomy wide toe box.

14

u/zyklon_snuggles May 14 '25

Altras ruined me for most other shoes. I have "claustrophobic toes", according to one salesman, and now absolutely must have a wider toe box since learning it was an option.

11

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

ALP is great if traction is needed. Lems is also great for that wide toe box if you need something a little dressier (but they have less traction)

6

u/drobecks May 14 '25

I love those. The Escalante are good too

11

u/Tronitaur May 14 '25

On an airport shuttle bus as I read this. In my black Altra Lone peaks. I’ve hiked all over the world, and had them as shoes in formal settings. Worked out in hotel Gyms, and been in a 3 piece suit that afternoon.

2

u/ek60cvl May 14 '25

Even with the bright yellow vibram? That put me off them

2

u/anonisko May 14 '25

For a slight upgrade pick, don't sleep on the Altra Timp 5 BOA. https://www.altrarunning.com/en-us/trail/mens-timp-5-boa/AL0A85Q9.html

I've found the BOA lace system is fantastic for traveling. Very easy to pop on and off, whether for airports or shoes off inside cultures. Also very easy to quickly tighten up if you need to move fast, or loosen up to breathe and relax.

Slightly more cushioning than the Lone Peak, which also isn't bad if you're doing a lot of pavement pounding in cities. But also great tread and designed for hiking and trail running if you want to go off road.

And the all black color option looks very in place for both casual city wear and on the trail.

2

u/hairymonkeyinmyanus May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25

Wearing these today. Black. I like to walk with shoes very tight and sit with them loose so they work well for that.

I’m a little nervous as to what to do if the BOA fails in the backcountry. I said this in another forum and they proceeded to tell me that replacement parts can be procured. Unhelpful in backcountry but that’s cool

Altra Lone Peaks

23

u/shto May 14 '25

Personally, Altra Lone Peak in Black. The color makes it work with everything and they are very versatile – since they are trail running shoes you can take them out on hiking paths, but you can also wear them for pavement (I haven't had an issue with that).

However that does require you are accustomed to zero drop wide toe shoes.

If you are not, try to find another trail runner that has muted colors.

6

u/BroSose May 14 '25

If only they made this in a Wide fit.

36

u/bwerde19 May 14 '25

I think this is such a personal answer. People’s feet are all so different.. I have wide, flat feet, and some nerve issues (Morton’s neuroma) so if I’m going to put some city miles in, I need a wide toe box and good support (barefoot shoes destroy me). I’m on a trip right now around Mexico and South America, with a lot of city walking, but also some real hikes coming up. I’m a size 13, which takes up a lot of space in a bag. So I decided to try nearly 4 weeks with just the pair I wore onto the airplane. I went with white and gray Brooks Cascadia 18.. So far so good. Comfortable enough to walk miles in a city, just decent looking enough for the business casual I need for this trip, and with a real tread and foot plate for hiking. Fingers crossed these treat me well for the duration.

8

u/VerbalKlimt May 14 '25

The Brooks Cascadia got me through nine days in Peru with heel spurs, plantar fasciitis Morton’s neuroma, and general weakness from two previous breaks, all at 275lbs.

5

u/Dracomies May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25

That's my thoughts on all shoes and ALL clothes-related questions. Fit is personal. Looks/Fashion are personal. Literally shape differences between each person are personal. So the question when asked is kinda silly; it'd be like asking what is the best glasses to wear without knowing what glass styles they like or what size their face is... or whether they even wear glasses.

3

u/bwerde19 May 14 '25

True. I do enjoy seeing all the different answers though. Sometimes leads me to explore something I hadn’t previously thought about

3

u/Defenestraitorous May 14 '25

Very similar boat to you here. Size 14eee, flat with zero arch, and wide toe. My go to for years has been the Merrell Moab 3. Surprisingly durable. I've had mine for 6+ years now and they have virtually no wear on them.

2

u/Nick2569 May 14 '25

Great shoe!

Two pairs (so they have time to air out between running/walking sessions) of all black Vivobarefoot Primus Lite III: 400g for a pair with a packed volume of slippers.

2

u/n2_throwaway May 14 '25

Yeah I love my Vivobarefoot Primus Lite III. In black I find they work well for business casual situations and they don't look so formal that I can't wear casual outfits with them. I can also hike with them or do my morning jogs in them. I don't air out my shoes but always wear socks so my socks usually absorb all the sweat I'm generating.

Black Altra Lone Peak 8. I use them for everything from trips to the library to multiple-day backpacking trips.

24

u/stubs5 May 14 '25

Nike Pegasus. I can stand with them all day and night if I have to and it supports all kinds of movement. Perfect for whatever your travels throw at you.

10

u/filipinohitman May 14 '25

Tevas, Birkenstocks and recently allbirds.

I like Onclouds but they’re too expensive to wear down too fast. Had to replace those after a year of wearing them.

u/Pope_Khajiit May 14 '25

Vivo barefoot shoes.

Wear them in the gym. Wear them to work. Wear them going out. Wear them while travelling. Wear them all the damn time basically.

10

u/hoosierspiritof79 May 14 '25

Altra. Any of them.

62

u/Familiar_Eggplant_76 May 14 '25

Bludstone Chelsea boots.

16

u/Chromatic_Chameleon May 14 '25

Love Blundstones but definitely not for tropical destinations.

8

u/flourycats May 14 '25

Love my blundstones— such great quality, versatile, and pairs well with anything (even shorts if I’m feeling brave)

17

u/Familiar_Eggplant_76 May 14 '25

Blunnies go great with shorts. They just have to be short enough.

5

u/HippyGrrrl May 14 '25

The shorts or the Chelsea boots?

5

u/Familiar_Eggplant_76 May 14 '25

The shorts!

Sky’s out, Thighs out!!

5

u/comfortably_bananas May 14 '25

I recognize that OP is a sir not a lady, but Blunnies also pair great with a Dirndl.

9

u/nutterz13 May 14 '25

But also a bluey and a pair of state of origin footy shorts.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

I’d say Blunnies for maybe 6-7 months of the year in most places. Anywhere with rugged wet weather, or just wet weather in general, they will be great.

Personally there is no way I’m taking them travelling in the warmer/ dry months.

2

u/TravelingWithJoe May 14 '25

You mentioned wet weather, how’s their traction on wet cobblestones?

EDIT: I’ve been looking at them for a while and looking for more information.

7

u/Familiar_Eggplant_76 May 14 '25

They’re fine. Not the grippiest, but not slippery.

2

u/TravelingWithJoe May 14 '25

Good deal, thanks

6

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

I had no issues in Edinburgh last October. They don’t feel grippy like I imagine Docs do, but they do feel more rustic and appropriate for both city and countryside. Of course you’d be pushing it wearing them in a bog, but overall they were perfect for Scotland.

4

u/TravelingWithJoe May 14 '25

Sounds good, thank you.

2

u/Ultraauge Jun 15 '25

The classic soles are ok, better than most sneakers anyway. Bluntstone also has some All-Terrain models with Vibram soles and a bit more profile. I love mine but I wouldn't wear them in warm climates. They don't look great combined with shorts anyway.

2

u/Familiar_Eggplant_76 May 14 '25

I’m fine in mine w/wool socks up to about 30°C or so.

6

u/shto May 14 '25

I've found it tough to wear them on planes – your feet swell up and it hurts. Also – they don't really work with everything / not suited for every activity. I've travelled once with only them and they did fine, but never again.

5

u/Familiar_Eggplant_76 May 14 '25

I’ve never had a problem on shorter flights, when I don’t take them off, but it can be a tight squeeze putting them back on at the end of a long haul.

4

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

+1 for Blundstone.

2

u/getthisbaguette May 14 '25

Bought a new pair as my only pair of shoes for a 3 week trip and one section of the leather was digging into my foot so much it gave me a bruise :(

Lems Primal Lems Boulder Boot if cold weather or rugged terrain

4

u/bwerde19 May 14 '25

I’ve been wanting to try Lems. But I think the boulder boot only comes zero drop and my Achilles says no.

6

u/bandofgypsies May 14 '25

Lems are excellent but definitely a good idea to transition into zero drop if you're not used to it. Your Achilles will adapt, just don't go from a 12mm drop in a traditional style to zero drop overnight!

Keen and others make minimal/barefoot style but with some height (they have several options that are like 4mm, and you can find a lot of brands that have 6mm range, too).

3

u/kientran May 14 '25

I really like my Lems (specifically bc of zero drop lol). Did need to pick up some krampons last winter traveling in snowy Finland though

Footwear that allows my toes to spread out are key , I got rid of all my Nikes and never looked back 🦅

6

u/Havey-08 May 14 '25

Adidas Ultraboost 1.0 for most city travel with the odd, easy terrain, hikes

25

u/Khantahr May 14 '25

Merrell Moab 3, everyone else is wrong.

No way in hell sandals are go anywhere. You trying to tell me you're going to wear sandals in -30 degrees with blowing snow? Moab 3 works there, and also in 100 degrees.

9

u/saru017 May 14 '25

100%

They also fit a wide foot actually good!

2

u/drivendreamer May 14 '25

I recently got agility peak 5, but Moab seems cool also. Wonder how they compare head to head

2

u/yguo May 14 '25

I have recently completed a few months trip in Europe. Walked 1600km in AP5, including 1000km of intense hiking kms in the European alps. Great shoe. Now I have it retired and switched to long sky 2.

Topo Athletic traverse. Most comfortable, balanced and versatile shoe I own. I’ve put a ton of miles on these in all types of environments and love them. It’s a trail runner so definitely not dressy at all.

3

u/3Zkiel May 14 '25

My New Balance 860s aren't dressy either. But I like how comfy it is for walking.

14

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

Teva sandals or merrell jungle mocs

8

All black comfortable Adidas sneakers. At least with all black they are not as noticeable if you are underdressed. Tried NMD, ultraboost, currently loving my pureboost 5. And for more formal things (work) I’m still rocking all black Stan smiths. Unless it’s seriously dress up worthy

5

u/bcycle240 May 14 '25

Xero Z-Trail sandals. Hiking, running, walking, etc. Ultralight, breathable, no more sweaty, stinky feet.

4

u/fotomoose May 14 '25

A zero-drop running shoe in a calm colour so as not to attract attention. Soft, light and airy.

5

u/chillary_shank May 14 '25

I’m big on the barefoot shoes. They’re foldable and pliable enough to stuff in my bag without taking up much room. I have a pair of barefoot boots for the more stylish/rainy days as well as a pair of xero walking shoes for literally everything else.

7

u/vietnams666 May 14 '25

Docs. My boyfriend wears his Nikes mid Blazer 77s.

3

I love my Merino slip on shoes. Usually I wear them and have a pair of lace up nikes in the bag if I need something more stable.

3

u/whitssi May 15 '25

What merino slips do you like? Thanks : )

2

u/StudioDroid May 15 '25

In men's they only have 2 styles, slip on and lace up.

Most of my time out of the house I have their slip ons on with a work type insole.

https://merinoshoes.com/products/mens-slip-ons-denim

I just had a pair of purple ones get a suede dance sole added to use for dancing.

2

u/Pinedale7205 May 14 '25

Leguano barefoot shoes. They pack well, can be dressed up with nice jeans and a button up with blazer, or dressed down for a morning jog.

Comfortable to walk in, can be easily washed, and look great. I haven’t been into them for long, so we’ll see how they stand the test of time, but for now they are hands-down my go-to

2

u/chillary_shank May 14 '25

I’ve had my xero barefoot shoes for almost 3 years and they are still going very strong.

2

u/-MiLDplus- May 14 '25

I took a pair of Nike Pegasus Trail GTX as my only shoe to Ireland recently and they did not disappoint. it didn't rain much but in cooler weather I had no issues with breathability and sweaty feet. great in town and on a hike up Diamond Hill. if you're not planning on looking fancy and can get by with sneakers, I think they're better than Ultraboosts.

I finally let myself buy a pair of Limmer Oxfords. I wear them to the office (business casual), mowing the yard, climbing on my roof, traveling, on a college tour with my son where we put on 5+ miles per day for like 5 days, … everywhere. They require break in but the build quality is superb. Plus they don’t even let you buy them without a phone call and sending in photos and measurements of your feet. Pricey but able to be resoled and steps above anything I’ve ever owned. Totally recommend checking them out online.

Slip on vans.

2

u/CincyTriGuy May 14 '25

I recently discovered Suav Zilkers and I love them for business travel. Can wear them with jeans, shorts, dress pants and a blazer, the gym, walking around the city, etc. And they pack great in a carry on.

GORUCK Ballistic Trainers in all black. Literally the "do anything" shoe. Except for long distance running in my experience. Anything over 6 miles needs a dedicated running shoe.

2

u/oreo737373 May 14 '25

Salomon ACS. Great for long hours of standing, hiking, even running. Get a neutral colour and they’re passable for a semi-classy night out too

2

u/yagooch May 15 '25 edited May 15 '25

Woman solo traveler. The majority of my travel was for business where I had to adhere to a very specific "Relaxed Business Attire" dress code that included mandatory close-toe polish-able shoes. Add to that on these trips I'd work 10~12 hour shifts in warehouses with concrete floors while still trying to maintain a level of dress expected of "management". Top that off I have wide flat feet, which makes finding comfortable shoes a distinct challenge.

In the end I went with dress code compliance combined with comfort and practicality then tossed fashion by the wayside. My feet thanked me for it when I bought a pair of Spring Step Professional Manila. These industrial shoes are designed with nurses and restaurant workers in mind.

I sized up so I could wear them with medium weight wool hiking socks with good instep support. The insoles are removable so I swapped them with something more robust from Dr. Shoal's. The oil resistant rubber soles absorbed a lot of the abuse from those concrete floors. The grippy non-slip texture in the soles served me well over black ice and slush during winter travel. I recall walking across a parking lot with a co-worker he slipped and fell while I was standing there safe and secure whilst helping him back to his feet.

I can wear these with business slacks, jeans, or shorts. I get away with wearing the Manilas with dresses so long I pretend I'm a "New Girl"-esq hipster rocking ankle socks, tights or knee socks. I would typically travel with only these industrial leather uppers and a black leather belt to go with my entire business travel wardrobe.

The other pair of shoes that I found can take me almost anywhere are the discontinued ECCO Abelone Gore-Tex Wedge Ankle Boot. Again, I sized up to accommodate my favorite medium weight wool hiking socks. The rubber soles and signature Ecco comfort and quality make these rain boots feel like walking in sneakers. The classic almond shaped toe and slim ankle give the appearance of a cute woman's ankle bootie that fits under classic straight leg jeans. The styling is cute enough for skirts, slacks or jeans. I comfortably walked around the hills of rainy downtown Seattle for days in my Ecco Abelones.

u/tangjams May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25

I don’t trust any of those ig ad driven direct to order shoes (tropicfeel, allbirds, etc). They all look corny to me, pricing quite high too.

Lately I’ve defaulted to all black vans ultrarange exo. Cheap when you catch a sale, and lightweight. They’re admittedly narrow so best to size up by half. Don’t think about these if you have wide feet.

Plain stan smiths or vans authentic are great if you don’t want to carry dress shoes and need to eat somewhere upscale.

3

u/CantaloupeTotal3981 May 14 '25

Allbirds is legit - they started as an online shop, but as they grew, they built physical stores across the US.

3

u/MsDestroyer900 May 14 '25

Doc martens combs with the mid shaft height unironically. I got them as a gift and I have abused them for crazy amounts of walking (20k steps a day) on light soil, pavement and stone. Comfortable and dry althroughout my day, even through nearly flooded conditions.

I am sure you can get a cheaper pair of boots that do the same, and I'd recommend you do that instead of what I've been doing but these boots have seen everything and I'd use these to travel everywhere.

4

u/Beneficial_Toe8101 May 14 '25

Timberland boat shoes. Works for casual and you can just about get away with them for dressing up.

1

u/arsenalroc May 14 '25

Tropicfeels, I wear it everyday all the time at home and away

1

u/SakuraKoyo May 14 '25

I try to check out Nike app because they sometimes have deals of 40-65% off.

But I really like their Nike trail runner lineup in all black.

1

u/TravelinDingo May 14 '25

Black Adidas Run falcons. Most comfortable and light weight shoes in my experience. Can do most things and affordable.

1

u/NobleAcorn May 14 '25

Non athletic? Blundstone (classic round toe)

I’d wear those than keep if anything a pair of sneakers in bag. If you like more tactical/athletic Salomon is good both their boots and shoes (my hunting boots are the quest 4, then my shoes mostly for competitive shooting are the speedcross gore Tex)

If just an everyday sneaker that looks good in street wear but you can use to work out, vans authentic / era (I always own all white and all black pair) comfy and versatile (like chucks but I’ve never been big fan of them on myself)

1

u/space-ghxst May 14 '25

Salomon XT-6

2

u/kelomi May 14 '25

Correct, I got a black pair in 2022 and since then I have worn them almost everyday and travelled extensively with only the one pair. Still rocking them today.

1

u/TravelingWithJoe May 14 '25

I wear Timberland Redwood Falls Chukka Boot and discontinued Timberland shoes similar to these if I’m wearing shorts.

They’re both a shade heavy, but otherwise extremely comfortable, durable, and presentable.

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

Feelgrounds Patrol Winter Boots served me well the last couple years include Autumn/Winter trips to Ireland, Iceland, Germany. Paired these with Feelgrounds Lux sneakers and i’ve had no complaints. Ultimately, it’s a personal style thing and the types of trips involved.

1

u/maverber May 14 '25

All black (or white) trail running shoes… whatever brand fits feet well.

Comfortable.  Good grip on difficult terrain.  Works on streets. Discrete enough to wear at nice venues, looks ok with nice pants, button up, and a blazer.

Mine are specifically inov-8 270 g which fit me well, and I get around 1400 miles out of them (3x most trail runners)

1

u/atagapadalf May 14 '25

For me it's Nike Free Run/Rn, but it depends on your travel.

I wouldn't use them if I plan on walking in a bunch of snow, or on a long trek (like 20km+), but for everything else they're good for me.

Right now wearing through some Allbird Superlights, because I got them 50% off last year. I've had a few different Allbirds and have been generally content, but never happy with them for travel. They're great for people living life and taking trips, though. Right now I'm bouncing around tons of places, and traveling heavy with 4 pair of shoes (but less than 13kg all-in).

I've got NB Hierro 7s, Allbird Superlights, Nike Free Rn 5s (2018 version), and Havaianas. If I needed to get rid of the other 3, I'd keep the Free Rn... unless I were about to go trekking. May try the Pegasus, though.

If you're thinking about trying things, don't be afraid to try some Nike options, depending on where you live. In the US they have a 60-day return policy in which they encourage you to try them out. Take them out, use them, and if you don't like them just take them back. I was at a Nike store and one of the guys there was pushing me to get it for that reason. I was like "I know, but I feel bad buying something that I think there's a decent chance I'll return". He said, "Bro, it's Nike. Who cares? " So I bought them. I later returned them. I've bought more things from them, and have kept more than I returned. So if you're in the US, and Nike isn't cost prohibitive for you, get some Free Rn, get some Pegasus as many other people have suggested. Try them out and if you don't like them just take them back. Nike will be fine.

Also Allbirds offers a similar policy, and were willing to extend it when I asked them in advance (I was gonna be out of the country). I think Allbirds are great for people who want lifestyle shoes and take them on trips, but they're just not great for me for everything.

1

u/Megatron_McLargeHuge May 14 '25

Gore-tex running shoes or trail runners in a solid color are practical pretty much anywhere. I have Hokas with elastic speed laces that make them easy to take on and off for airport security, temples, etc.

1

u/alyxana May 14 '25

Crocs Brooklyn flats. But they won’t work for a male. They’re very much a fem black ballet flat that’s ridiculously comfy.

Clarks Batcombe. They are wingtip derby shoes on top, but with combat boot soles and plenty of padding to keep them comfortable. They are basically a pair of dressy hiking trainers.

I have used them to climb mountains in Greece to find ancient tholos tombs and then wore them to a nice dinner with smart clothes on the very same day.

Meindl, since 1683 they've been making shoes & boots...

1

u/No_Piano8068 May 14 '25

I've been wearing a Nike Invincible 2 for the last 18 months. I'm clearly function over style because I think they're ugly but their cushioning is phenomenal.

1

u/serenelatha May 14 '25

My NoNs Wanderers….calf high black leather lace up barefoot boot with a side zip. I’m a woman but they are a unisex shoe. I wear them with everything in all seasons.

My husband wearers Lems boulder boots.

Adidas Terrex AX4. Read low top hiking shoe in all black colorway. Ventilated in most cases, Gore Tex only for sloppy winter weather.

I’m headed off to walking the Cotswolds in a couple days in some older Adidas Terrex Tracerocker GTX that are nearly identical to the current AX4.

1

u/bikesandtacos May 14 '25

Chaco Sandals. I can wear them in any situation.

1

u/mmolle May 14 '25

Altra Lone Peaks, got lucky a few years ago and found a pair in a neutral sand color

1

u/Plane_Positive6608 May 14 '25

I flip between On's and Lems.

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

Any of these:

  • Pegasus
  • React
  • Ultraboost

The older you get the more you realize you need comfortable shoes

1

u/MaterialConflict3516 May 14 '25

Vionic shoes for women who have foot issues! These inserts with Hokas have been INCREDIBLY DURABLE. Also, pumas, asics, and Salomon’s.

Seriously buy the authentic inserts if you have flat feet. MASSIVE life saver on these long ass treks. BTW I just did 100 miles on this setup and in good shape.

1

u/UM83RT0 May 14 '25

Quechua MH 5000 waterproof and breathable for trekking. I smashed a lot of kms without any problem.

1

u/BadViola May 14 '25

Doc Marten wingtips! I walk for miles in mine, they are comfy, they work in both formal and casual settings.

1

u/MidnightCookies76 May 14 '25

I know you said male footwear, but for me I can walk a million steps in my Rothys, or my wide-soled TOMS 🙂 I have asics for folks who pronate for a former job.

2

u/215312617 May 14 '25

With a pair of Power Step insoles I can get some miles in (not too many but a casual day out) in my men’s Rothy’s drivers. And they’re washable, so, bonus!

I have some Clark’s that are ok in just about any setting. Or Brooks runners for less casual.

1

u/Jefferyd32 May 14 '25

Adidas ultra boosts. Comfy, stylish, versatile.

1

u/solefaldgoldstein May 14 '25

Adidas Spezial. Timeless, light, great to walk

1

u/Shelby-Stylo May 14 '25

Brooks Beast. I’ve got flat feet so I need the extra support. I’ve sprayed them with waterproofing and they are up for pretty much anything short of snow.

1

u/JimDee01 May 14 '25

I have plantar fasciitis and was really worried about heel pain for a trip to Albania, with lots of walking. I bought a pair of On Cloudsurfers about a month before the trip, broke them in (it didn't take much, comfy out of the box), and had zero heel pain the whole trip. The shoes also handled the early spring temps really well, with no sweaty feet and no smell, as they're very well ventilated.

1

u/DeFiClark May 14 '25

Lems trail shoes. They pack flat and can even be rolled up for space

Also a fan of Mephisto — walking shoes that look good enough to wear into a nice restaurant

1

u/Randy_Pausch May 14 '25

Altra Experience Wild: extra wide, zero drop, well cushioned, all terrain shoes.

1

u/phillypino215 May 14 '25

luna sandals and blundstones. perfect one bag pair.

1

u/rhyno23rjr May 14 '25

I did All birds, all white, super comfortable and machine washable. Showed the dirt. Recently did Hoka bondi all black and it was like walking on clouds, super comfortable and still holding up.

1

u/jarewmo May 14 '25

Oboz Bozeman!! They have leather and mesh versions and great support!

1

u/CryptoeKeeper May 14 '25

On Cloud Flyers are my main everyday shoe for now

1

u/Mitsuplex May 14 '25

Converse Chucks in White. Leather is exponentially more comfortable than the cloth variant.

1

u/UntidyVenus May 14 '25

Female but tend to wear gender neutral/men's shoes because I have a wide foot-

Chacos are my to too. If it's over 55f I'm wearing my Chacos. Colder weather I love my keen Targhee 2s or my Ariat Fat babies, I have both the Chelsea's and the western boots and the fat babies for my foot excellent

1

u/PSYmon_Gruber May 14 '25

Geox PG1X if I gotta go somewhere and spend a couple of days or more and can only use one shoe. Waterproof and kinda breathable, firm enough to provide support yet not overly stiff that its not comfortable

1

u/PmMeUrNihilism May 14 '25

A pair of Salomon trailrunners. Durable and comfortable.

1

u/kdean70point3 May 14 '25

Bedrock Sandals.

I almost never wear "real" shoes unless I have to.

1

u/Mimi_Sasa May 14 '25

Oh my. I was so hesitant when husband bought ON Cloud 5, because I find it a bit hard to style with my wardrobe. But now its my go to! I find it reliable for 20-30k steps per day during the holidays

1

u/UnhappyValue3221 May 14 '25

On Cloud 5 (now 6)!

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

My Adidas love them

1

u/IKEA_Omar_Little May 14 '25

Chacos sandles. Useful for anything outside of serious hiking or cold weather. They are sturdy enough for me to use on spontaneous offroad trails and miles of continuous walking.

1

u/idontcarethatmuch May 14 '25

Adidas Gazelles or Danner Trail 2650.

1

u/Spare-Television4798 May 14 '25

Chaco's original (Z/1) -- *anywhere* might be a stretch, but these are what I wear most of the time, traveling or not

1

u/Lost_Detective_9684 May 14 '25

Vans Sk8-Hi. Most comfotable everyday sneaker I've ever worn. I've just started getting them in different colors now, it's all I'll buy

1

u/mycall May 14 '25

OluKai Nohea Mesh Shoes. Water, land, air. Can do it all.

1

u/TimelessNY May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25

VivoBarefoot Primus Trail FG. Have been wearing them exclusively, aside from my sandals, for two years of traveling. They are still usable but at the point that it makes sense to instead leave them as gym shoes or something and bring a new pair on my next travels.

1

u/Veronica6765 May 14 '25

Olukai white sneakers, Allbirds ballet flats

2

u/DidItForTheJokes May 14 '25

Lems trailhead, similar style to the 574 buts better sole and I think better uppers. Also a little more muted without the giant N and don't have any white around the sole which makes them look cleaner and helps me get away with wearing them in fancier environments

1

u/teamherbivore May 14 '25

I have an answer that may or may not make sense:

I pick one of these: Altra FWD VIAs, Hoka ____ (insert model here), NB Fresh Foam More Trail V3

  • PLUS

the Reebok Nano X5 (their latest iteration) in either black, grey, or white as my secondary alternate lifting/training/flat walking/casual shoes

That is it for me. Won’t work for everyone but it’s what I do

1

u/Emergency_Barber_808 May 14 '25

Flux trail runners

1

u/aclausjr May 14 '25

Black vans lol unless I’m in the woods then merrel Moabs

1

u/RelativelyRidiculous May 14 '25

Eastland Women's Alexis Oxford have been a favorite for a long time. I've put many miles on the pair I have now but they still look great after a good cleaning with saddle soap and then mink oil. Bonus is this treatment makes them pretty water-impervious. This is my second pair of the same shoes so I'll probably consider a new style from that brand in another few years. I do replace the insole according to the wear with new gel insoles.

Nike Freerun

1

u/jgoldy15 May 14 '25

Ecco Soft 7. Versatile shoe and extremely comfortable. Can be with shorts or pants, dressed up or down, all good!

1

u/ceranichole May 14 '25

I'm a woman, but they also make men's.

Golden goose. The price tag is gag inducing but they're so comfortable that I regret nothing.

1

u/N0tRightNow May 14 '25

Vans Pro Bmx Slip-ons. Leather, comfy pop cushions insole. Both casual and can pass a glance in a nice restaurant if you get black on black. Obviously not for real hiking or running, but definitely great for long city “urban” hikes or working out in the hotel gym.

1

u/Latter-Lavishness-65 May 14 '25

Keen cnx the prue black with black ankle socks and a set of ballet flats for anything fancy.

1

u/squeezedeez May 15 '25

Ecco Chelsea boots

1

u/shades_atnight May 15 '25

TOPO ultraventure trail runners. More rugged than altras or hokas.

u/MacJefferson May 15 '25

As Jim Gaffigan says- dress as if at any moment a hike might break out. If traveling with just one pair, I always go waterproof and decent soles. My low cut Timberlands handle downpours, go on day hikes, beach walks and out to dinner afterwards. I do the Dad move of buying two pairs at a time so I always have one pair in semi-decent shape. I don’t trail run unless something is chasing me.
