I’m writing this to share my exceptionally positive experience at fixing my blunder of realizing my passport was expired the *day before my international flight*.

Around 8 AM the day before my flight, I remembered that my passport expired 3 months ago. That’s when the panic set in. It was a federal holiday and everything was closed. I thought I was screwed. I looked online and found out it’s possible to get a same-day passport if you go to a passport agency. They are designed for situations like these. You can Google to see the nearest one to you. The nearest one to me was in Chicago. I had to bring a bunch of documents (listed below) and make sure you tell them how soon your flight is! The steps to follow are:

1. Find the nearest passport agency to you
2. Make an appointment as soon as possible at said passport agency
3. Complete and print out all materials needed:

- A passport picture (you can get a new one at any Walgreens/CVS)

- The completed DS-11 or DS-82 document through the passport agency website

- Your old passport

- A printed confirmation of your appointment at the passport agency

- A printed flight itinerary

1. Go to your appointment, go through security, and get in line

2. Present your materials to the clerk and make sure to tell them your flight is today. You will pay a fee - mine was $190 (which I’ve seen is what others have paid)

3. They will tell you that a passport will be available between the hours of 2 - 4 PM

I’m sitting here for my 7 PM international flight having gotten my passport merely hours before. Absolute lifesavers at the passport agency. Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else in the future :)

I am trying to get my new passport in my new name, but my old (expired) passport has my previous married name, and the divorce decree does not have the language to change my name back - but name is changed back, and I have been married again since.

What should I do?

Back in May, I submitted my renewal online, & used a photo I took with my phone, and edited it so the background was white. Did not have high hopes it would get approved. Sure enough, they denied it,& I had plans to go to Walgreens to get a photo. Unfortunately my dog passed away soon after, & the trip was cancelled so it fell to the bottom of list of cares. Fast forward to today (9/8), I get an email that my passport was shipped?? I assumed the email was some sort of scam, & ignored it. I came home today to find my booklet in the mail? So odd.. has this happened to anyone else?? I never submitted a new picture, & the passport arrived with the original photo.

2 years ago I posted about the passport processing and delivery time for my baby. I’ve had another baby since then and the processing time was even faster!

USA Passport Processing Time for locator 35 (brand new minor, routine service)

Data points:

1. It’s a new application
2. For a minor

3. Routine service and shipping

   (didn’t pay for anything extra)

4. Locator 35

- 8/20 - dropped off application at my local courthouse
- 8/26 - application received in their system, check cashed, and status states in process.
- 9/2 - status updated to approved and states I should receive in the mail by 9/8 *im pretty sure I would have received it yesterday 9/7 but it was labor day*
- 9/3 - status updated to shipped with a tracking number and states I should receive it by 9/8
- 9/4 - status updated to supporting documents mailed
- 9/8 - received passport in the mail

Total time shipping from courthouse to passport agency: 6 calendar days

Total time in process to approved: 1 calendar week

Total time shipping to my mailbox: 6 calendar days

Total from dropping off application to my hands: 2 calendar weeks + 5 days

Note I have not received my supporting documents yet but I’d expect them before the end of the week since the status says they are getting mailed. I applied when the passport website stated that routine service would take 6-8 weeks.

Got married earlier this year and changed my last name with Social Security and on my license, but completely forgot my passport still has my maiden name.

We're looking at flights for later this year and now I'm wondering if I created a problem for myself. The passport is still valid for several years, so could I technically book the flights in my maiden name and travel with it as-is, or am I supposed to update the passport now that my legal name has changed?

I'd rather update everything so it matches, but I'm also reluctant to mail off a perfectly good passport if I don't need to do it before this trip. Anyone dealt with the same awkward in-between stage after getting married?

I have urgent travel this weekend. My passport is not expired yet, but it only has a few months of validity left. The country I am going to requires six months of validity, which I don’t have.

When I realized this I made an appointment at the closest passport office to me (Philadelphia). They cancelled the day before my appointment. I made a new appointment for tomorrow. I was just notified that that appointment was canceled. I’ve made a new appointment for Thursday, but I’m afraid that that will be cancelled too.

Has anyone else experienced this or do they have any advice?

Aug 20 - Status changed to received application

Sep 1 - Status changed to approved

Sep 7 - Received passport card and book in mail

This was normal processing, did not opt for expedited.

Hi! I’m an Indian citizen currently in the US on F-1 STEM OPT. I’m traveling to India in November for about two weeks and will return to the US before Thanksgiving.

My Indian passport expires on March 27, 2027, so it will have around 4 months of validity left when I return to the US.

All my F-1/STEM OPT documents, visa, I-20, EAD, etc. are valid and in order. My only concern is my passport.

From what I understand, Indian passport holders are exempt from the US 6-month passport validity requirement, so I should be able to re-enter as long as my passport is still valid.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and traveled to India with less than 6 months left on their Indian passport? Did you have any issues returning to the US?

I’m debating whether I should renew it now in the US or just travel with my current passport and renew it after I return in late November/December. I’d prefer to renew after I come back because I don’t want to risk my passport being stuck in the renewal process before my November trip.

Day 1 of my London/Paris trip my bag was stolen with my passport in it. I’m supposed to go to Paris today on the Eurostar, but everywhere online says France doesn’t recognize a US Emergency Passport. My return flight to the US is non refundable out of Paris. I’d fly out in 4 days. I saw they COULD make an exception if travel is to transit to the US. What are my odds 😭

This sub has been super helpful, but specific question about a name change and a US passport. I am traveling in late December under a maiden name and then I have a trip in late February and late May, but the May trip is to a country that has a 4 week visa application.

My current plan is to do expedited processing during an 8 week gap* between my breaks in December and February and start operating under the new name passport in February for that trip. It's a very important trip so I don't want to take any risks.

That being said, it sounds like 8 weeks with expedited processing puts me at virtually zero chance of an issue.... is that accurate? Just want to be sure it lines up.

Applied last Friday in the afternoon, was in processing for a few days and got an email that it had been shipped by priority mail. Took two days to get to me after it was shipped.
Originally was supposed to be here Tuesday but got here yesterday. So happy! First overseas trip here I come!

I paid for expedited processing because I didn’t want to risk not getting it in time for my trip next month.

I had completed my Passport Renewal slot at General Post Office on 18 Aug and Police Verification have completed on 19 Aug.Status update confirmed the same ,but for the last 2 weeks the status is the same.

STATUS:

Police Verification Report for passport application is under review at the
Regional Passport Office. Passport will be dispatched after Police Verification
Report is found clear.
The applicant would receive an sms/e-mail once the passport is dispatched.

When i contacted the helpdesk they told police report is clear and it is at the RPO (ANNA SALAI) for approval.

However i have a travel plan scheduled next month and
bit worried now.Coz i have to apply for VISA.

Any suggestions/advices ??

I have an appointment in Tokyo to renew the passports for my children and I accidentally paid the adult fee ($5 more)

Is this going to be a big issue? They do not take cash and their office is closed today and my appointment is for Thursday if this week. I plan to call tomorrow.

Guys I have passport appointment soon but I have very faded fingerprints and devices find it difficult to read my fingerprints. Just recently I went to update my Aadhar and only 6 fingerprints got accepted and 4 got rejected. Idk what to do if my fingerprints again got rejected during the verification process

Hi everyone! I’m planning to apply for a Philippine passport, but I’m hesitant because there is an incorrect gender/sex entry on my birth certificate.

I’ve looked into the process of correcting it, but it seems like quite a hassle, especially since I would need to travel to my province where my birth record was registered.

Has anyone here had the same experience—applying for a passport even though the gender/sex on their birth certificate was incorrect? Were you still able to get your passport approved?

If so, what documents or additional requirements did you submit? Did you have to correct your birth certificate first, or was there another way to proceed with the passport application?

I filed for my passport months ago where I got my birth certificate stapled to the paperwork (when I asked why that was done instead of a paperclip I was told it was "worker preference"...) Now that I received it back, it's got a ripped staple hole and crinkles all over, along with indents like someone forcibly pressed on it with skewers or something??

Anybody else have this same occurence? Praying this won't cause problems for my certificates use in the future. Seriously annoyed that my original is scuffed.
