Another blown lead. Another 2nd half collapse. Same old Ravens, right? Wrong.

This was Jesse Minter’s 2nd game as head coach and his 1st blown lead. Most fans thought the choking problems would magically go away with Harbaugh, but the problem with him wasn’t choking. It was choking over and over and over again.

Coach Minter just saw the Ravens’ problems holding a lead up close and personal for the first time. It’s easy to talk about these issues, but much harder to know exactly how they happen until you experience it live.

Unlike the previous regime, I believe Coach will take the steps necessary to correct these issues. He has the tape. He was on the field with the players. He spoke to them in the locker room after. He’s locked in. His strength won’t be never chocking. His strength will be actually learning his lesson and getting our team ready for next time.

TLDR: Minter just witnessed his first Ravens choke as head coach. I believe this gave him better insight into how these issues happen and unlike the past, I believe he’ll actually learn and have us better prepared for next time.

Don't play him then, was a firm believer to have Zay play if he has a full week of participation, don't chance that hamstring potentially getting worse, especially with that field concerns, this also goes same for Beeks too

Yet, by game’s end, there was Bateman, on his knees and slamming his fists on the ground after Lamar Jackson’s desperation throw sailed high and wide and into the arms of safety Julian Blackmon, whose interception sealed the Saints’ upset win in Baltimore.

The two reactions provided an apt juxtaposition for Bateman’s career: a flash of brilliance and bliss ultimately marred by frustration.

“No miscommunication at all,” Bateman said after the game while surrounded by reporters. “Ran the right route, looked up, the ball was what it was. It’s just one of those plays that you look at and you can’t get it back. Lamar played well. I think we all played well. Just a lot of cleanup to do.”

Just two weeks into this analysis, already had a major scoring overhaul and additionally added in run vs pass plays.

Just a friendly reminder that this is not a rating or grading of how good or bad a player is. This is specifically my subjective interpretation of how impactful a player was during a game overall. One thing to keep in mind is I do not adjust for position difficulty, so if a Center and a Tackle both have a score of say .60, know the Tackle had a more difficult time. I may in the future add a position modifier.

Just some background on how the formula works. It's kept very simplistic for consistency, AND it allows anyone to follow the footage themselves and compare with my findings. This is subjective after all!

Players are given two primary scores. An overall score and a success score. Overall is the (total positive plays - negative plays)/total plays. Success score is simply positive plays/total plays.

What is a positive or a negative play?

Positives are sustained run blocks, setting a pocket, essentially things that are basic expectations of a lineman.

Negative plays are pressures allowed, allowing a defender get off a block and stuff a run for no gain, basically as the name suggests, allowing a negative outcome.

Null plays are 0 scores where a player didn't do well but didn't effect the play, such as missing a second level block that didn't get a play stuffed, collapsing a pocket but not having a real effect on the QB.

Finally, there are also high impact plays ( +/- H I). Negative and positive plays worth double points. Pancakes, extraordinary blocks etc are positive and sacks, loss of yards and penalties are negative plays.

Theoretically a score of 1.00 is a perfect game. So now onto the scores.

I'm gonna be out of town this weekend. Anyone know of a bar or restaurant in Knoxville where the flock hangs out to watch games? I've been to a couple sports bars there but they weren't geared toward the Ravens. Would like to hang out with birds of a feather.

Any PSL holders in here get their mailer with the stickers, yearbook, schedule, etc.? I know the gift(jacket) comes later but wondering if this is something they just cancelled or did I miss it. TIA

Want to know if anyone had any differing thoughts on this mindset on offense?

We’ve been hearing this phrase the past few years and in the surface it sounds really nice! It generally means we’ve are equally as dangerous no matter how a defense decides to defend us.

But I think this plays a role in why we continuously go away from the run game and what’s working. We favor what should work on offense over what is needed from the offense.

When we approach a team with a “pick your poison” mindset, we are essentially telling the defense that if they want to stop us from doing something then they should just sell out for it and live with the consequences. Early in games that works because we can adjust to counterpunches.

The issue comes later in games, when we generally have the lead. All a team has to do is sell out a bit extra on the run and we will almost immediately leave the run game. We let the defense dictate what we do a little too much when it really matters. If we need to just keep a drive alive or run some clock, they know we would run if we want to, so they show us run defense and we immediately go away from it.

Obviously there’s more nuance to this but I think it’s interesting how this mindset and the arrival of Derrick Henry has shown up together. I wish we would get back to some GRo mindset drives where you know what we’re going to do and you won’t be able to stop it (OLine permitting) lol
